Mercury in Scorpio Meets Up with Mars, Pluto and Venus While Venus Goes Retrograde and the Sun in Libra Opposes Saturn in Aries

 

Early October may be technically Libra season, but it sure is feeling very Scorpionic with the personal planets of Mercury and Venus in Scorpio.   On October 2 Mercury in Scorpio squares  Mars in Leo and then Pluto in Aquarius. Mercury squares Mars in Leo at 5:14 a.m., bringing the potential for impatience, quick tempers and aggressive communication.  Later in the afternoon Mercury squares Pluto in Aquarius adding to the mental tension and the possibility of power struggles.  The Mercury-Pluto square can help us to focus more intensely and facilitate engagement in research so that we can uncover hidden truths. Just be mindful of the tendency to be compulsive or obsessive in our behavior though.

Mars in Leo is also opposing Pluto in Aquarius on October 3 creating a theme of ego clashes as personal power dynamics surface.  We might have a realization that there are some things that we just can't control.  This means that we are under the influence of a fixed T-square as both Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius are squaring Mercury in Scorpio.  We will be experiencing tension, stubbornness and resistance to change courtesy of the fixed quality of these planets.  But it does give us endurance which is sorely needed these days.

Venus is stationing retrograde in 8 degrees of Scorpio on October 3.  It will re-enter Libra (one of its favorite signs) on October 25 and remain retrograde until November 13.  So Venus will be reentering Scorpio on December 4 and stay in Scorpio until January 7, 2027.  The last time Venus was retrograde in Scorpio was October 5 - November 16, 2018.  Venus won't be retrograde in Scorpio again until October 2034. Venus retrograde is a time to reflect on our personal values, finances and relationships.  Past partners could re-emerge in our lives to help us seek closure about unresolved issues.  This is NOT a good time to make drastic changes in our appearance, take financial risks or get married.  If a new relationship begins during this period, it might not last.  I have a natal retrograde Venus in Scorpio, so I am quite familiar with its intensity.

On October 4, the Sun in Libra is opposing Saturn in 11 degrees of Aries. This can play out as a test of patience as our personal drive is confronted head-on with real world limits.  Responsibilities can feel overwhelming.  Stress is kicking our butt.  Transiting Saturn is in my 6th house so I know it won't exactly be a high energy day for me.  Try not to tackle any new projects on this day.

We get a break on October 6 when Mercury and Venus are conjunct in 8 degrees of Scorpio.  This can be pretty sweet for loving communication and can also encourage creativity, emotional clarity and deeper levels of intimacy are possible.  With Venus retrograde, we could be reassessing old relationships.  This can help us mitigate any damage incurred from that fixed T-square of the previous weekend.

Mars in Leo is forming a supportive sextile to Uranus in 5 degrees of Gemini on October 7.  This is a very high energy aspect that delivers a sudden burst of motivation and a desire to break free from boring routines.  This is the day to start something new and implement bold ideas.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mars Opposes Pluto for the Third Time, a New Moon in Taurus and Venus Returns to Aries

 

The month of April is quite literally going out with a bang.  On April 26, we have the third opposition between Mars and Pluto.  The first one occurred on November 3, 2024 with Mars in 29 degrees of Cancer and Pluto in 29 degrees of Capricorn.  The second one happened on January 2, 2025 with Mars in 1 degree of Leo and Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius.  The one on April 26 occurs with Mars in 3 degrees of Leo and Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius.  When these two planets are facing off, the themes are tension, power struggles and control issues.  Mars in Leo does have the potential to give us the courage to break free of our fears and enter a new era that has a strong theme of transformation.  But we need to be mindful that anger could erupt and impulsive actions are possible.

The influence of Mars opposing Pluto is feeding into the New Moon in 7 degrees of Taurus on April 27.  Yes, folks, we have a T-square with the Sun and Moon in Taurus involving Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius that is testing our personal power limits while providing plenty of anger and frustration.  Mars and Pluto squaring the New Moon in Taurus makes it a whole lot more stressful than the usual New Moon in Taurus, which is generally associated with planting the seeds for secure foundations in our lives to create some stability.

But unless you have been living under a rock, I am sure you are aware that we are not living in stable or secure times.  Far from it.  I don't think that I am off the mark when I say that this New Moon in Taurus will probably feel like a Full Moon to many people, courtesy of that fixed T-square.  T-squares provide tension, but they do have a motivating factor.  There is a strong theme of release with this New Moon.  If you have any planets or points (like the Ascendant, Midheaven, IC or Descendant) in 0-7 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, you will be feeling this energy quite acutely.  Fixed signs do not exactly embrace change with open arms, so it can be tough.  And with Pluto playing such a major factor, the rebirth process can be painful and difficult. What do you need to release in your life that is no longer serving your best interests?

 

New Moons are future-oriented and we can't overlook the fact that Venus and Saturn in Pisces have been conjunct the North Node in Pisces.  The North Node represents our collective destiny and our soul's mission.  Venus and Saturn were conjunct in 27 degrees of Pisces on April 24.  Venus will be in 28 degrees of Pisces on the New Moon and Saturn will be in 27 degrees of Pisces still conjunct the North Node in 27 degrees of Pisces on the New Moon.  The theme of Venus conjunct Saturn is a reality check but it can also entail acts of kindness and compassion that we need to carry forward.  Both Venus and Saturn will be departing the sign of Pisces soon to enter Aries, so try to embrace this concept.  Venus is exalted in the sign of Pisces because of its capacity for compassion, empathy and unconditional love. I know that I am grateful for the small acts of kindness that I have been the recipient of during this past week and I think that this can be a starting point of reflection for all of us if we are to fulfill the mission of that North Node in Pisces.

Speaking of Venus, it enters Aries on April 30 and remains in Aries until June 6.  But Venus was previously in Aries from February 4 through March 29.  Who can forget the Venus retrograde transit that occurred from March 1 until April 12?  Venus stationed retrograde in 10 degrees of Aries in March and stationed direct in 24 degrees of Pisces on April 12.

Venus is spending a lot of time in Aries in 2025.  When Venus is in Aries, we are more independent, impulsive, bold and adventurous.  We tend to be more proactive and inclined to take risks.  We are also more impatient, blunt and love the thrill of the chase.  Financially it can be a time to invest in yourself.  Yes, Venus is the planet associated with love, but it also rules finances.  In mid-May, Venus will hit the Solar Eclipse point of 9 degrees of Aries and will also return to 10 degrees of Aries, where it stationed retrograde on March 1.  So we could very well be dealing with some unfinished business in love and finances.  Indeed it can be a time when we are not afraid to pursue love and financial gain.  We could be revisiting themes from earlier in the year.

Mars Stations Direct in Cancer (FINALLY) and a New Moon in Pisces

 

Save the day of February 23.  On that day, Mars will station direct in 17 degrees of Cancer after having been retrograde since December 6, 2024 when it stationed in 6 degrees of Leo.  It seems like it has been longer, right?  I think it is pretty safe to say that people have been feeling quite frustrated in the last couple of months and getting nowhere fast.  It won't happen overnight, but the pressure will start to lessen and we will start to get more clarity as we get our mojo back. I wouldn't recommend taking any major action on that day, because planets are so intense on the day of a station (either direct or retrograde).  Just try to breathe, calm down and realize that the time to act is coming very soon. How will it play out for you: will you win the battle or just decide to walk away?

When Mars stations direct in Cancer, we could be feeling emotionally quite reactive and protective towards those we love. Or we could be feeling very combative too.  Mars stationed retrograde in Leo, where it is more comfortable and expressive, but it opposed Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on January 3, 2025 and it will oppose Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius again on April 27, 2025. Mars opposing Pluto screams power struggles. But Mars will remain in 17 degrees of Cancer until March 9, 2025 and won't get into Leo again until April 18.  Mars will clear its retrograde shadow in 6 degrees of Leo on May 3, 2025.

On February 27, 2025, we have a New Moon in 9 degrees of Pisces.  We actually have a plethora of planets in Pisces on this day: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune and the North Node to boot.  Pisces is the most sensitive of all the water signs, so we can expect heightened emotions and the potential for feeling overwhelmed.  Under the auspices of a Pisces New Moon, we can feel ultra-sensitive and scattered, as well as vulnerable. Our psychic sensitivity is strong and we should be paying attention to our dreams. We are also leading into eclipse season, which kicks off on March 14 with a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo.

What else is going on astrologically with this New Moon in Pisces?  Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces is conjunct the North Node in 27 degrees of Pisces, emphasizing our spirituality. Mercury in 23 degrees of Pisces is conjunct Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces, which amplifies our intuition and strengthens communication.  Mercury in Pisces is also forming a supportive sextile to Uranus in 23 degrees of Taurus, so it is entirely possible to come up with an entirely different perspective or outlook on a situation. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box!  Jupiter in 12 degrees of Gemini is squaring the New Moon in 9 degrees of Pisces, which can feature a great deal of information circulating.  This will be an extremely sensitive and watery New Moon, for sure.  We can feel inspired or confused; you never know which the way those fish will swim.

Mars in Cancer will be trining Saturn in 20 degrees of Pisces on the New Moon too, which can set the stage for building a new future.  New Moons are about setting intentions, don't forget. Mars trining Saturn tends to give strength, ambition and perseverance to tackle difficult and demanding tasks.  Commitment is also quite appealing when Mars is trining Saturn, so it is auspicious for business dealings or making a personal relationship more permanent.

Pluto is Calling the Shots with a Fixed T-Square as We Face a New Moon in Taurus, Mars Entering Leo and the Sun Moves into Gemini

 

Pluto in Aquarius is really flexing its muscles these days. Pluto is like the Roto-Rooter planet of the zodiac in that it forces us to dredge up what needs to be purged for rebirth. Jupiter just entered Taurus on May 16 and on May 17 it formed a challenging square to Pluto in Aquarius.  On that day I tweeted:

The first aspect that Jupiter in Taurus makes is a square to Pluto in Aquarius today. We want rebirth and change but can become obsessive and fanatical about it. It can be uncomfortable. #astrology

On May 19, we have New Moon in 28 degrees of Taurus.  A New Moon in Taurus has themes of shining light on our material possessions, comfort and sense of security.  We should definitely be setting new intentions in these areas of our life.  Saturn in Pisces is forming an exact sextile to Mercury in 6 degrees of Taurus, which is a boost for making plans for the future.  The New Moon is also forming a supportive sextile to Mars in 29 degrees of Cancer, helping us to find the courage to act on those intentions.  But the New Moon in 28 degrees of Taurus is also forming an out-of-sign trine to Pluto in 0 degrees of Aquarius.  This can have a very empowering vibe.  Overall, this New Moon can be quite favorable.  The shadow side of this New Moon is that we might have a tendency to overspend or overindulge in unhealthy habits.  Just be mindful of that...

The plot thickens on May 20 when Mars enters Leo, where it stays until July 10. Mars in the fixed fire sign of Leo will give us more confidence, creativity and foster our leadership skills.  But on that same day Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius.  This can be very nasty and is definitely war-like energy.  We can find ourselves being very angry and reactive.  If anyone has natal Mars-Pluto aspects, they know how triggering it can be.

Mars in Leo also comprises a fixed T-square along with Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto in Aquarius.  A T-square occurs when two planets are opposing each other and they square a third planet, which is the focal or apex point.  So we have Mars in 0 degrees of Leo opposing Pluto in 0 degrees of Aquarius and they both square Jupiter in 0 degrees of Taurus.  The opposition creates a confrontational nature and a need to balance relationship patterns.  The square represents obstacles we must face in order to make progress.  This is a fixed T-square, so it feels like stuck energy.  Jupiter is the focal planet, and it represents growth and expansion, while Pluto is associated with power and transformation.  And Mars is all about taking action on our desires, but it can also bring conflict.  So this is a pretty heady mix.  

On May 23, Mars in Leo will be forming an exact square to Jupiter in 1 degree of Taurus.  This is a very explosive vibe but it does provide us with the energy to start new projects and take risks.  It's also very impulsive energy.  We need to be mindful not to attack others.  There can be a tendency to burn out and experience physical or emotional exhaustion.

If you factor in the Nodes of the Moon, we also have a Grand Fixed Cross.  The North Node of the Moon is currently in 3 degrees of Taurus and the South Node of the Moon is in 3 degrees of Scorpio.  This gives us four planets or points squaring each other and it creates major tension and turmoil.  My motto is to never overlook the Nodes.  They are extremely important in terms of where we are going (North Node) and where we have been (South Node). When I first started studying astrology, I thought that the most difficult aspect that I had in my chart was my Mars in Aquarius squaring Saturn in Scorpio.  Of course, back then, I was undergoing my first Saturn Return and I was not very happy with the planet Saturn.  

When I started studying the Nodes, I realized that the most difficult and challenging piece of my chart was my North Node in Capricorn.  The North Node represents what our soul is trying to achieve, and it can feel like an uphill journey because it goes against the grain of your South Node, which is second nature to us. My South Node is in Cancer, which can make me very emotional and wanting to take care of people.  Yet a North Node in Capricorn is about setting goals and achieving them.  The trick is to balance achieving your goals with your home life. I remember reading a book by Michael Lutin about the Nodes years ago when he described a scenario with the North Node in Capricorn individual: they are on stage getting an award for their achievements when they get a phone call about a family emergency.  Did that one ever resonate for me! If you have any fixed planets or points like your Ascendant or Midheaven in 0-3 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, you will be feeling the effects of this T-square and Grand Cross big time.  I should know, because I have my natal Mercury in 0 degrees of Scorpio.  I am definitely feeling the effects of Pluto squaring my Mercury and Jupiter opposing it.  And now Mars in Leo will be squaring it, which should make me even more irritable. I also have a Yod in my chart involving my Moon in Gemini, Saturn in Scorpio and North Node in Capricorn.  A Yod has a way of making one feel "why does this always happen to me?"

On May 21, the Sun leaves Taurus and enters the mutable air sign of Gemini.  When the Sun is in Gemini, we tend to focus on socializing, networking and craving communication that is intellectually stimulating.  Gemini is also a sign associated with choices and variety, so its shadow side can involve making too many commitments and spreading ourselves too thin.   But the Sun in Gemini does form a delightful trine to Pluto in Aquarius on that day, so we have a sense of empowerment in our energy for transforming our future.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mars and Pluto Face Off and a Solar Eclipse in Gemini Packs a Punch

 

Hang on because the month of June is going to be quite the bumpy ride.  It started off nicely with the Moon in Pisces conjunct Jupiter in Pisces on the 1^st and with Venus entering Cancer on the 2^nd, but by June 5, we are in for tumultuous times.  Mars in Cancer will be exactly opposing Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn and this is not going to be pretty.  This is very competive energy and can play out in extremely ruthless behavior if we aren’t careful. Mars in Cancer is very emotional and it won’t take much to set it off. It’s all too easy to overreact. The Mars-Pluto opposition has been building all week and I have heard from several people that they sense its contentious vibe and the conflict that it generates.  It’s having a huge impact on the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.  And if you have any planets between 20-26 degrees of Libra, they will be set off by this aspect.  Mea culpa, I have my Juno 23 degrees of Libra and my Neptune in 26 degrees of Libra.  Think back to what was going on for you from August through October 2020 when Mars was in Aries opposing those Libra planets.  You will undoubtedly be revisiting those themes.

On June 5 we also have the Moon in Aries squaring Pluto in Capricorn and squaring Mars in Cancer. This adds more fuel to the fire.  On top of that, we have Mercury in Gemini exactly squaring Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces.  Mercury squaring Neptune can increase our psychic sensitivity and intuitive feelings and circulate a great deal of information, but the reality is that whatever information we hear will be conflicting and unclear.  Mercury stationed retrograde on May 29, when I tweeted:

Mercury and Venus are conjunct in Gemini today which can help restore some harmony in relationships. But #MercuryRetrograde officially starts tonight so expect some confusion and delays until June 22. #astrology

As I have previously stated, this will be a tough Mercury retrograde because Mercury is in its favorite sign and it occurs during Eclipse Season.  We had a Lunar Eclipse on May 26 in 5 degrees of Sagittarius and on June 10 we have a Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Gemini.  Generally we think of New Moons (which a Solar Eclipse is but on steroids) as a time to plant seeds and set new intentions. This eclipse/New Moon has a strong theme pertaining to communication and fresh starts.  I would wager that social media will be very active during this eclipse but perhaps the wisest course of action with this one is to observe because we will probably be faced with choices.  Don’t forget that Gemini is a mutable sign and symbolizes duality, so there could be several options available to us and we might even need to try twice. And I am giving the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces that you will be bearing the brunt of this eclipse. Or if you have any planets around 19 degrees of the mutable signs.  Once again, I am cosmically blessed with my Moon in 14 degrees of Gemini within striking distance.

Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces is also heavily involved in this Solar Eclipse.  It squares the eclipse, so we might very well hear about some major deception coming to light.  Both the Sun and Moon in Gemini are conjunct retrograde Mercury, which adds more energy to the mix. The themes of confusion and a desire to escape will be very strong. 

The frenetic pace will continue the following week when we experience the second of three Saturn-Uranus squares in Aquarius and Taurus on June 14.  I’ll cover that in next week’s post, but the spoiler alert is for the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio to be on high alert.
