A Super Emotionally Charged Full Moon in Scorpio, Mercury Enters Taurus and Pluto Stations Retrograde in Aquarius

 

Away we go with the Merry (?) month of May.  On May 1, we have a super-charged Full Moon in 11 degrees of Scorpio.  Full Moons always raise the emotional ante, but when you have a Full Moon in a water sign, especially Scorpio known for its still waters run deep persona, it can feel off the charts.  Prepare for a massive case of the big feels as it squares Scorpio's ruling planet Pluto in Aquarius  Major secrets could be revealed on this day as we dig deep to leave no stone unturned.

There is a fixed T-square on the Full Moon involving the Sun in Taurus, Pluto in Aquarius and Moon in Scorpio.  T-squares tend to provide so much friction that they motivate us to do something.  Because all of these planets are in fixed signs, we can anticipate stubbornness, demands, high levels of determination and a battle of wills that could be accompanied by manipulation and control tactics.  The saving grace aspect of this Full Moon is the trine between the Moon in Scorpio and Jupiter in Cancer.  This enhances our intuition and empathy.  It provides optimism so that we have more faith and optimism during these challenging times.

Mercury and Chiron are conjunct in 27 degrees of Aries on the Full Moon, indicating a potential for wounding words to surface for the process of healing.  A Full Moon in Scorpio has a strong theme of rebirth and transformation.

There is also a Yod aspect on this Full Moon involving Venus in 8 degrees of Gemini, Saturn in 9 degrees of Aries and the Moon in 11 degrees of Scorpio.  I have a Yod in my natal chart with my Moon in Gemini, Saturn in Scorpio and North Node in Capricorn.  Yods have a way of making you feel like a victim and questioning why such bizarre things keep happening to you.  The bottom line is that they require adjustment because Venus in Gemini and Saturn in Aries (which form a supportive sextile that can create opportunities) are inconjunct the Moon in Scorpio.  We are being called on to integrate the open-minded energy of Venus in Gemini with the responsible energy of Saturn in Aries through the emotional depth of the Moon in Scorpio.

Responsibility is a key theme of this Full Moon.  We have two other Yods in this Full Moon.  The South Node in Virgo is inconjunct Saturn in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius, which indicates that we will need to release patterns of perfectionism and self-criticism.  The third Yod involves Saturn in Aries inconjunct the South Node in Virgo and the Moon in Scorpio.  Responsibility, dedication and consistency are highlighted.  Use the intensity of your emotions as the fuel to transform.  It will be difficult but we need to persevere.  This Full Moon is conjunct my Saturn in Scorpio in my first house, so it really hits home for me.

This will be the most powerful Full Moon of 2026 so far, but if we have the courage to face whatever comes our way, we can heal and be reborn.  Remember that Venus in Gemini is sextiling Saturn in Aries, which is a blessing for us to stay the course and heal our relationships. This is by no means a fluffy, feel-good Full Moon but it can get us to the other side.

Mercury enters Taurus on May 2 until May 17.  We can look forward to more practical and grounded communication.  Our decision-making should be more stable than when Mercury was in Aries and we can engage in sound financial planning.  We might be a little stubborn though because Taurus is fixed earth.  That is the shadow side of Mercury in Taurus.

Pluto stations retrograde in 5 degrees of Aquarius on May 6 until October 15 when it goes direct in 3 degrees of Aquarius.  It's time to channel our inner phoenix and transform on a deep inner level so that we can implement those changes in the collective.  There can be technological advances and we have the opportunity to reexamine our relationship with power.  Pluto is retrograde every year and it is much more subtle than having Mercury, Saturn, Mars or Venus retrograde.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. Mercury Enters Taurus and An Unusually Intense Full Moon in Scorpio

 

Mercury is making up for lost time after the recent retrograde (March 15 through April 7) by moving into Taurus on May 10.  It cleared its retrograde shadow on April 25 and has been picking up its pace. Mercury will only remain in Taurus until May 25, so I am not kidding when I say it is cruising along at a fast clip.  

What can we expect when Mercury is the fixed earth sign of Taurus?  Thinking and communication are more down to earth and practical, which is a big change from the impulsive nature of Mercury in Aries.   Common sense rules, as does realism.  We will call things like we see them.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Taurus is a tendency to be stubborn and resistant to new ideas.  It is a fixed sign, after all.

If the month of May has been too quiet for you, be prepared for all of that to change on May 12 with the Full Moon in 22 degrees of Scorpio.  The Full Moon in Scorpio is not exactly a lightweight, jolly one, but this particular one has even more potential for intensity, passion and transformation than usual.  Scorpio is a sign associated with secrets and other people's money, so I wouldn't be surprised if financial news surfaces that rocks us to our core.  Sexual secrets could come out too, as Scorpio has a heavy sexual connotation. Taurus is also a money sign and we have the Sun and Uranus in 26 degrees of Taurus. The conjunction of the Sun and Uranus in Taurus can also indicate the potential for earthquakes too. The Sun and Uranus in Taurus opposing that Moon in Scorpio have the potential to bring radical change, a craving for independence and downright rebellion and/or revolution.  The Full Moon in 22 degrees of Scorpio is also inconjunct Jupiter in 23 degrees of Gemini, which can magnify the importance of those secrets.  And the Full Moon in Scorpio is inconjunct Chiron in 24 degrees of Aries, increasing our awareness of our pain.  Be prepared to confront those old wounds and make some adjustments in your life to heal them.

If you have any planets or points (as in Ascendant, Midheaven, IC or Nodes of the Moon) in 19-25 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, you will definitely be feeling the effects of this Full Moon.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire.  My Sun is in 19 degrees of Scorpio and my Venus is in 24 degrees of Scorpio.  Both planets are in my 2nd house.  The bottom line is that Uranus is a wild card player in this Full Moon; it can bring change, but it will probably be quite disruptive and somewhat uncomfortable.  It's also impossible to predict exactly how it will play out.  And Mercury in Taurus will be squaring Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius on the Full Moon, so we could be headed for some major blow-ups and big reveals.  Just warning you... 

The Moon is in Scorpio on Mother's Day, May 11, and it is not exactly friendly.  It inconjuncts Venus in Aries and squares Mars in Leo, which could lead to some conflict on this day.  Try to honor Mom and refrain from too much arguing on this day. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers and women who have nurtured you out there.

Massive Changes Underway this Week as the Sun Enters Taurus, Jupiter and Uranus are Conjunct in Taurus, A Full Moon in Scorpio and Mercury Goes Direct

 

This week has plenty of planetary action including the Sun's ingress into Taurus, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus, a Full Moon in Scorpio and Mercury going direct on April 25.  We have come through eclipse season and Pluto entering Aquarius in January, but this week could top the charts quite literally.  There is a strong theme of shedding and releasing prevalent in the second half of April.

On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries and enters the fixed earth sign of Taurus.  I think that I can safely surmise that most of us are exhausted by now with Aries season. That Solar Eclipse in Aries on April 8 is still in effect for many of us. We still have Mercury, Venus, Chiron and the North Node in Aries, but at least the Sun is leaving.  What can we expect when the Sun is in Taurus?  Well, it is ruled by Venus, which loves harmony, sensuality and enjoys the finer things in life.  We can't forget that Aries is ruled by Mars, which is a very different vibe than peace-loving Venus. When the Sun is in Taurus, we tend to be more receptive, grounded and methodical. Of course, the shadow side of Taurus is a tendency to be more stubborn (aka the Bull) and possessive.

Mars in Pisces is forming supportive sextiles to Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus on April 19.  This is setting the stage for the main attraction on April 20 when Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct in 21 degrees of Taurus. This is a cosmic green light for positive change in new directions.  It provides energy and motivation to move forward.

Jupiter is conjunct Uranus every 13 or 14 years and denotes a period of breakdowns or breakthroughs.  Breaking free is the mantra with this aspect. It starts a whole new cycle of change that will last for the next 14 years. The last time Jupiter and Uranus were conjunct was in June 2010 in 0 degrees of Aries and again in September 2010 and January 2011 in the late degrees of Pisces.  Jupiter conjunct Uranus can feel somewhat disruptive but it is ultimately productive. There will be an emphasis on survival and self-reliance with the conjunction occurring in Taurus.  There is also the likelihood of more earthquakes or natural disasters with it falling in the earth sign of Taurus.  The last time we had a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus was in May 1941 during World War 2.  This conjunction is also trining the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in 22 degrees of Capricorn that happened on January 12, 2020 and ushered in the COVID era that featured themes of contraction, control and limitation.  Remember lockdowns and toilet paper shortages???  Perhaps we will feel like we are finally clearing the shadow of this era.  Astrologer Pam Gregory has described the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction as a "Thank the Lord" aspect of liberation and I couldn't agree more with her.  The tricky part is that you are thanking the Lord when it is over, not so much when it is happening.

Who is going to feel the effects of this aspect most acutely?  Anyone with planets in 19-23 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio will probably feel more shockwaves initially from this aspect.  The effects of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction will be felt for awhile, so don't think if nothing happens to you on this day, you have escaped it. Venus and Chiron are also conjunct in Aries on this day, which is an incentive to break up old patterns in relationships, such as people-pleasing.

The Sun in Taurus is squaring Pluto in 2 degrees of Aquarius on April 21.  There is a strong theme with this aspect of letting go of attachments and control issues.  I have this aspect natally, so trust me when I speak about control and power being major issues.  In a way, this aspect is setting the stage the Full Moon in 4 degrees of Scorpio on April 23.

The Full Moon in 4 degrees of Scorpio on April 23 is also squaring Scorpio's ruling planet, Pluto in Aquarius.  Pluto is actually forming a T-square to the Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio, so this Full Moon will be intense, I kid you not. But it can also be quite empowering.  Hold that thought... The themes of power, truth, control, commitment and secrets coming to light will prevail.  Some of these secrets could pertain to money with the Sun being in Taurus.  Safety and security issues could arise.  The shadow side of Scorpio entails revenge and grudge-holding but try to rise to the higher level of Scorpio which has integrity, loyalty and higher morality.  I urge everyone to try to be as spiritually compassionate as possible because Scorpio's shadow side can be pretty destructive.  If you have any planets in 0-4 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, you will probably be dealing with issues of empowerment, control and manipulation.

The week ends on a very promising note on April 25 when Mercury stations direct in 16 degrees of Aries.  Mercury has been retrograde since April 1, which was not exactly the nicest April Fool's joke.  It was in Aries during the whole retrograde, having stationed retrograde in 27 degrees of Aries and I am sure that this added to the impatience most of us experienced.  We finally get to see a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to communication and transportation snafus.  Just remember that Mercury officially clears its retrograde shadow on May 13 and we should all be fine.

The Water Works Commence as Mars Enters Cancer and a Full Super Moon in Scorpio

 

Things are about to get even more emotional than usual.  Mars is departing the mutable air sign of Gemini where things can go two ways very easily on April 23 and moving into Cancer until June 11, 2021.  When Mars is in Cancer, we are motivated by our emotional needs, and security is definitely one of those needs.  Mars is not terribly comfortable in Cancer (in fact it is in fall because Mars is exalted in Capricorn), but it does bring a certain amount of emotional clarity that was lacking during the recent Mars transit in Gemini. It is easier to take things too personally when Mars is in Cancer because we tend to be emotionally protective and feeling vulnerable.  Mars has also been out of bounds since March 21 until May 24, which means that it is moving past 23 degrees 27 minutes in declination outside of the ecliptic.  How does that play out for us?  The bottom line is that a planet out of bounds is more erratic than usual and is like a wild card.  You just don’t know how they will react and with Mars in Cancer, this could play out as extreme moodiness, crabbiness, or passive-aggressive behavior.  Mars in Cancer is a cardinal sign, so there is a very real possibility that we might see some displays of assertion on the public stage because cardinal signs love to initiate action. 

You will feel the effects of this out of bounds Mars most acutely if you have any planets between 10 degrees of Gemini and 20 degrees of Cancer.  I am in the thick of this Mars phenomena, with my natal Moon in 14 degrees of Gemini, my south node in 8 degrees of Cancer and my Midheaven in 19 degrees of Cancer.  I think it is a safe bet to say it’s not a good idea to cross me during this Mars out of bound period.  It’s never a good idea to get on a Scorpio’s bad side, but this is a particularly dangerous time to do so. Remember that Mars is not comfortable expressing anger in the sign of Cancer but with it out of bounds, all bets are off in terms of how that anger will be expressed.  Fair warning…

And, ta-da, we have a Super Full Moon in 7 degrees of Scorpio coming up on April 26. It doesn’t get more emotionally intense than a Scorpio Moon, which is fixed water, and this is a Super Full Moon to boot.  We currently have a pileup of planets in fixed signs, including the Sun, Mercury, Uranus and Venus in Taurus, and Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius.  The Full Moon in Scorpio adds to the fixed energy, emphasizing the qualities of tenacity, stubbornness and resistance to change that they represent. 

We are deeply entrenched in Taurus season.  The Sun and Mercury entered Taurus on April 19, inspiring me to tweet:

I am sure no one is surprised when I say that anyone with planets in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are going to feel the biggest impact of this Full Moon in Scorpio.  Both Taurus and Scorpio are heavily invested in security, but Taurus interprets security from a physical and material perspective, while Scorpio has an emotional and spiritual perspective on security.  So they are seeking to find some sense of balance during this Full Moon. Uranus in Taurus is also a major player in this Full Moon. On April 22^nd Venus and Uranus were conjunct in 10 degrees of Taurus, which could have played out as new beginnings in relationships for some, while others experienced increased volatility in existing relationships.  And this aspect might have triggered some sudden financial upsets or windfalls for others.  On April 24 Mercury will be conjunct Uranus, which could deliver brilliant ideas or shocking news.

What will be the themes of this Full Moon in Scorpio?  The heavy involvement of Uranus in the Full Moon indicate that freedom and rebellion will be key themes, and the Scorpio Moon may reveal some shocking secrets and scandals.  The pileup of planets in Taurus can involve the economy, banking and seismic earth changes.  Uranus in Taurus is frequently associated with earthquakes.  The Full Moon in Scorpio trines Mars in 2 degrees of Cancer, which could lead to some defensive actions, especially with Mars out of bounds.  We also have connections to some lunar action of Fall 2020.  We had a New Moon in 23 degrees of Scorpio on November 15; think back to what fresh starts you implemented in your life back then and reflect on where they stand now.  The Full Moon in Taurus on October 31 was conjunct Uranus in Taurus, which is eerily similar to the connection Uranus in Taurus has to this Full Moon. No matter how you dice it, the prevailing feeling of this Full Moon is that something has to give from all of the tension with all of these planets in fixed signs forming a T-square.  That’s what T-squares do; they provide a catalyst for releasing all of that tension.

Scorpio’s ruling planet, Pluto stations retrograde in 26 degrees of Capricorn on April 27 through October 6, 2021, when it stations direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn.  This will add to the intensity as issues from September and October 2020 will be revisited.  And we can expect a touch of obsession to be added to the mix for good measure. If you have any relationships in your life that involve triangles, these will need to be addressed as well.  Pluto retrogrades every year at this time, and it is a time when we get the opportunity to purge whatever isn’t working for us so that we can experience real transformation once Pluto is direct.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. The Nodes Change Signs and a Transformative Full Moon in Scorpio

The month of May promises to continue the path of transformation that the coronavirus initiated earlier this year.  Pluto stationed retrograde on April 25, 2020, inspiring me to tweet:

Today is May Day but not too many of us are in a celebratory mood for the season of spring or workers.  On May 5^th, traditionally known as Cinco de Mayo, a day which commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over Napoleon III and the inspiration for many parties, we have an astrological turning point.  The nodes of the moon move from the north node in Cancer and the south node in Capricorn to the north node in Gemini and the south node in Sagittarius. The nodes will remain in Gemini and Sagittarius until January 18, 2022. The last time the north node, the sign of our collective destiny, entered Gemini, was in October 2001.  And the south node entered Sagittarius back then, which severely restricted long-distance travel, especially flying, shortly after 9/11. The south node is associated with karma, old habit patterns and is frequently referred to as the path of least resistance because we are so inherently comfortable with its traits.

As we conclude the transit of the south node in Capricorn, we can see it manifesting as governmental controls on our daily lives through lockdowns and a need for practical security.  The old structures of our lives have been rapidly dismantled as a result of the coronavirus.  The north node in Cancer increased the emphasis on emotional security and being at home more.  Hopefully it will also conclude as more compassion and nurturing behavior towards others during this challenging time that we are all undergoing.  Every day we hear stories of those on the front lines of this pandemic who are putting themselves out there and giving to others.  This is truly the best manifestation of integrating the compassion associated with Cancer with the power, responsibility and leadership of Capricorn.

I have my south node in Cancer and my north node in Capricorn and I can tell you that one of the most difficult lessons in my life has been trying to integrate the Capricorn energy into my life. I have a great deal of water in my chart, lots of Scorpio and Cancer planets, which makes my rely more on my emotions and intuition, so Capricorn issues of practicality, responsibility and leadership has felt like an alien presence in my life, but I do feel that I have made some progress in harnessing that energy.  I have also found that to be the case in many of my clients’ lives.

When the north node moves into Gemini, communication will be a major theme and lesson for all of us. The sign of Gemini is linked to the lungs and I don’t think that it is an accident that the coronavirus is a respiratory ailment.

The signs of Gemini and Sagittarius are mutable, which may stand us in good stead as we definitely need to adapt and be versatile in these challenging times.  But it also important to remember that viruses can mutate and come back, as we are being constantly told by doctors.

Gemini is by its nature a very social sign, but these days a great deal of our connectivity is being found online.  The perk of a north node in Gemini is that online businesses should be very prosperous while the north node is in this sign. Gemini is also very concerned with information and is non-conformist, so I wouldn’t be surprised if different social media platforms arise. Just be mindful of the potential for Internet deception and fraud, as Gemini is ruled by Mercury.  While the north node is in Gemini, we will be living much more locally and short trips will be the norm. There will be a strong focus on the neighborhood while the north node is in Gemini. 

The south node in Sagittarius is concerned with the truth and learning.  But we also need to let go of global movement and travel, because flight as a mode of travel is not currently possible. Air travel changed dramatically after 9/11 (the last time we experienced this nodal placement). Sagittarius is also associated with the law and it is quite possible that our old system of law will undergo major transformation.

The bottom line is that for the next year and a half we need to think more locally and integrate the more positive traits of Sagittarius of honesty, craving for knowledge, adventurousness, optimism and independence into the north node traits of Gemini, which include adaptability, intelligence and sociability.

On May 7, 2020 we have the third Full Super Moon of 2020 in 17 degrees of Scorpio.  Super moons occur when the moon is extremely close to the earth in its orbit.  Full moons are always very emotional times, but a full moon in the highly sensitive water sign of Scorpio is bound to be even more emotionally intense.  Full moons are also a time of closure and revealing light on secret matters.  Scorpio is a sign that revels in research and digging deeply.  A full moon in Scorpio can indicate that light will be shed on issues of trust and betrayal.  Those secrets could also involve issues of sexuality and illicit wealth, as Scorpio is the sign of other people’s money. 

We have two major aspects that are also featured in this full moon in Scorpio that involve Neptune in Pisces. Venus in 21 degrees of Gemini is squaring Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces, which could play out in a couple of ways: a yearning for love and social contact or unclear and foggy information being presented.  But the full moon in Scorpio is also forming a beneficial trine to Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces, which will hopefully manifest in compassion, inspiration and unconditional love.  Don’t forget that Scorpio has tremendous courage and unrelenting focus.  It is a born survivor.  Astrologer Michael Lutin once said that if any sign could survive a nuclear holocaust, it would be a Scorpio.  I am banking on that, as this full moon is two degrees away from my sun and I am hoping that it brings some closure to my battle with the coronavirus, although the fatigue seems to linger. It is also forming a wide sextile to my Chiron in the 4^th house, which gives me some hope.  But my doctor has told me to expect that the fatigue is the last symptom to leave.
