The Water Works Commence as Mars Enters Cancer and a Full Super Moon in Scorpio

 

Things are about to get even more emotional than usual.  Mars is departing the mutable air sign of Gemini where things can go two ways very easily on April 23 and moving into Cancer until June 11, 2021.  When Mars is in Cancer, we are motivated by our emotional needs, and security is definitely one of those needs.  Mars is not terribly comfortable in Cancer (in fact it is in fall because Mars is exalted in Capricorn), but it does bring a certain amount of emotional clarity that was lacking during the recent Mars transit in Gemini. It is easier to take things too personally when Mars is in Cancer because we tend to be emotionally protective and feeling vulnerable.  Mars has also been out of bounds since March 21 until May 24, which means that it is moving past 23 degrees 27 minutes in declination outside of the ecliptic.  How does that play out for us?  The bottom line is that a planet out of bounds is more erratic than usual and is like a wild card.  You just don’t know how they will react and with Mars in Cancer, this could play out as extreme moodiness, crabbiness, or passive-aggressive behavior.  Mars in Cancer is a cardinal sign, so there is a very real possibility that we might see some displays of assertion on the public stage because cardinal signs love to initiate action. 

You will feel the effects of this out of bounds Mars most acutely if you have any planets between 10 degrees of Gemini and 20 degrees of Cancer.  I am in the thick of this Mars phenomena, with my natal Moon in 14 degrees of Gemini, my south node in 8 degrees of Cancer and my Midheaven in 19 degrees of Cancer.  I think it is a safe bet to say it’s not a good idea to cross me during this Mars out of bound period.  It’s never a good idea to get on a Scorpio’s bad side, but this is a particularly dangerous time to do so. Remember that Mars is not comfortable expressing anger in the sign of Cancer but with it out of bounds, all bets are off in terms of how that anger will be expressed.  Fair warning…

And, ta-da, we have a Super Full Moon in 7 degrees of Scorpio coming up on April 26. It doesn’t get more emotionally intense than a Scorpio Moon, which is fixed water, and this is a Super Full Moon to boot.  We currently have a pileup of planets in fixed signs, including the Sun, Mercury, Uranus and Venus in Taurus, and Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius.  The Full Moon in Scorpio adds to the fixed energy, emphasizing the qualities of tenacity, stubbornness and resistance to change that they represent. 

We are deeply entrenched in Taurus season.  The Sun and Mercury entered Taurus on April 19, inspiring me to tweet:

I am sure no one is surprised when I say that anyone with planets in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are going to feel the biggest impact of this Full Moon in Scorpio.  Both Taurus and Scorpio are heavily invested in security, but Taurus interprets security from a physical and material perspective, while Scorpio has an emotional and spiritual perspective on security.  So they are seeking to find some sense of balance during this Full Moon. Uranus in Taurus is also a major player in this Full Moon. On April 22^nd Venus and Uranus were conjunct in 10 degrees of Taurus, which could have played out as new beginnings in relationships for some, while others experienced increased volatility in existing relationships.  And this aspect might have triggered some sudden financial upsets or windfalls for others.  On April 24 Mercury will be conjunct Uranus, which could deliver brilliant ideas or shocking news.

What will be the themes of this Full Moon in Scorpio?  The heavy involvement of Uranus in the Full Moon indicate that freedom and rebellion will be key themes, and the Scorpio Moon may reveal some shocking secrets and scandals.  The pileup of planets in Taurus can involve the economy, banking and seismic earth changes.  Uranus in Taurus is frequently associated with earthquakes.  The Full Moon in Scorpio trines Mars in 2 degrees of Cancer, which could lead to some defensive actions, especially with Mars out of bounds.  We also have connections to some lunar action of Fall 2020.  We had a New Moon in 23 degrees of Scorpio on November 15; think back to what fresh starts you implemented in your life back then and reflect on where they stand now.  The Full Moon in Taurus on October 31 was conjunct Uranus in Taurus, which is eerily similar to the connection Uranus in Taurus has to this Full Moon. No matter how you dice it, the prevailing feeling of this Full Moon is that something has to give from all of the tension with all of these planets in fixed signs forming a T-square.  That’s what T-squares do; they provide a catalyst for releasing all of that tension.

Scorpio’s ruling planet, Pluto stations retrograde in 26 degrees of Capricorn on April 27 through October 6, 2021, when it stations direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn.  This will add to the intensity as issues from September and October 2020 will be revisited.  And we can expect a touch of obsession to be added to the mix for good measure. If you have any relationships in your life that involve triangles, these will need to be addressed as well.  Pluto retrogrades every year at this time, and it is a time when we get the opportunity to purge whatever isn’t working for us so that we can experience real transformation once Pluto is direct.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. The Pace Heats Up With a Second Full Moon in Libra, Venus Enters Aries and the Sun Enters Taurus

The second half of April is promising to be much more active than the first half of April.  Communications are definitely taking on a much more direct and dynamic approach with the entry of Mercury in Aries on April 17, 2019.  On that day I tweeted:

But on April 19, 2019, we are experiencing the second full moon in Libra this year.  The last one occurred on March 20, 2019 in 0 degrees of Libra.  April’s full moon in Libra is in 29 degrees of Libra, which is a really big deal for relationships.  Twenty nine degrees of any sign is considered the critical degree because it represents a time of transition and a time of completion.  It will definitely be a crucial time in relationships and partnerships, whether they are personal, business or international.  We can expect to feel a heightened awareness as emotions could be running wild.  The best course of action is to remain as balanced and calm as possible as opposed to being reactive and unruly. The full moon also falls on a religious holiday—Good Friday and the beginning of Passover. 

But what astrological forces are driving this full moon?  In addition to the usual sun moon opposition, the moon is opposing Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus, which could trigger some major issues to erupt suddenly.  This means that the sun in 29 degrees of Aries is conjunct Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus.  This is very radical, combustible and erratic energy which could manifest in diplomacy breakdowns or breakthroughs.   The full moon is also squaring Pluto, Saturn and the south node of the moon in Capricorn.  The fact that the south node is heavily aspected during this full moon makes it a very karmic full moon which could bring a time of revelations.  There is a cardinal T-square underscoring this full moon, which can also initiate a great deal of change.  With Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn in the mix, issues of control and power, especially regarding patriarchal structures, will undoubtedly be highlighted.  The full moon in Libra has themes of fairness, harmony and keeping the peace in relationships.  But with the full moon in that critical 29 degrees, it could mean that some of us might develop the awareness that we have been compromising too much in our relationships and we need more freedom.  Adjustments may be needed to restore a sense of balance.

I confess that this full moon is going to be slamming me and activating my cardinal T-square.  It is conjunct my natal Neptune in Libra in my first house, exactly squaring my natal Jupiter in Cancer in my 10^th house, squaring my natal Uranus in Cancer in my 10^th house and squaring my natal Chiron in Capricorn in my 4^th house.  If nothing else, it will be increasing my psychic sensitivity and intuitive powers.  With the hit to my Chiron, it may even create a space for healing old emotional wounds which is always welcome. 

On the following day, April 20, 2019, Venus enters the sign of Aries until May 15, 2019.  Venus in Aries is completely different than Venus in Pisces; it’s literally like night and day.  Venus in Aries is a time for love to be more spontaneous, direct and blunt.  The thrill of the chase is intensified when Venus transits the cardinal fire sign of Aries and desires are strong.  We will definitely be more courageous in expressing our feelings.  Openness and assertiveness rule when Venus is in Aries.  The perk with this transit is that we are more focused on getting our needs met.  Venus in Aries has a pushy quality, but after Venus in Pisces and an extended transit of Mercury retrograde in Pisces, this can be a breath of fresh air that helps us to clear the decks.

Mars in Gemini also enters an out of bound phase on April 20, 2019.  A planet is considered to be out of bounds when its declination is beyond the outer bounds or limits of the Sun, i.e. greater than 23 degrees and 27 minutes of declination, either north or south.  When a planet is out of bounds, the energy of the planet tends to be a little exaggerated, out of control and/or over the top.  Mars will be out of bounds from April 20, 2019 through June 12, 2019.  Mars out of bounds in Gemini can result in angry words being uttered, arguments, deceit, excessive humor and sarcasm.  Mars enters Cancer on May 15, 2019 and the mood will shift dramatically.  Since Mars represents our actions and desires, we can be prone to acting passive-aggressive, feel overly sensitive and be easily offended.

Also on April 20, 2019 the sun enters the earth sign of Taurus. The sun in Taurus is a time to slow down, be more practical, methodical and sensual.  Don’t forget that Taurus is ruled by Venus.  The shadow side of the sun in Taurus is a tendency to be possessive and stubborn.  It is fixed earth, after all.  It’s a good time to plant seeds for new beginnings and enjoy the finer things in life.

A Retrograde Out of Bounds Mars in Aquarius Runs Amok as the Sun Enters Leo and Mercury Retrogrades in Leo

I know that I have written about Mars being out of bounds before, in my August 12, 2016 blog post, but this time it is even more personal for me because my natal Mars is in Aquarius and due to the Mars retrograde transit this year, I am experiencing Mars transiting my 4^th house for 10 months of 2018 and a Mars Return to boot in mid-October.  I was also born with a natal Mars out of bounds. Here is a quick reminder about what it means when a planet is described as out of bounds.  A planet is out of bounds when its path is outside the plane of the ecliptic, which is the general path followed by the Earth and other planets as they orbit the Sun. Its orbit is greater than 23 degrees and 27 minutes north or south of the equator. 

Mars in Aquarius has been out bounds since July 7, 2018 and will remain out of bounds until September 24, 2018.  Mars was previously out of bounds from mid-March through early April 2018 in the sign of Capricorn.  And during the Mars retrograde transit Mars will slip back into Capricorn and will station direct in 28 degrees of Capricorn on August 27, 2018.

Mars in Aquarius is a rebel and iconoclast and when it is out of bounds, its wild card energy is amplified.  Any planet that is out of bounds will manifest its energy in an unpredictable way.  Mars in Aquarius out of bounds will feature actions that are bold and innovative, but there will be less control displayed as we won’t have access to any filters. Anger can erupt more suddenly and turn into rage that is difficult to contain.  This can be even more emphasized if anger and resentment have been suppressed and building in pressure.  I can personally attest to this fact with my natal Mars in Aquarius as I have been dealing with anger more intensely and I have been hearing similar tales from friends and clients during this particularly potent Mars retrograde transit.

Mars in Aquarius has been on the receiving end of some heavy action from other planets, especially Venus in Virgo.  On that day I tweeted:

Mars in Aquarius tends to focus its anger towards others, the people we consider different from us.  And with Mars being out of bounds in a fixed sign, it is important to remember to channel that courage, ambition and will power constructively.  Try to find a positive outlet for angers and frustrations that are bound to surface by hitting the gym, running or working those arm muscles.  And don’t forget the positive traits of Aquarius: the ability to breathe, take a step back and remove yourself from the situation that triggers the emotion so that you can access the positive assertiveness of Mars in Aquarius.  Aquarius is renowned for its ability to detach and we are all being called on to tap into that these days.

Mercury will be stationing retrograde in 23 degrees of Leo on July 26, 2018, just one day before the lunar eclipse in 4 degrees of Aquarius on July 27, 2018. Mercury stations direct in 11 degrees of Leo on August 19, 2018.  So, on top of Mars retrograde and eclipse season, we have a Mercury Retrograde to contend with.

I will be covering the lunar eclipse in greater detail in next week’s blog post, but I just wanted to give everyone a head’s up that Mars in 4 degrees of Aquarius will be very active in this lunar eclipse. It will be conjunct the south node of the moon in 5 degrees of Aquarius as well as the moon in 4 degrees of Aquarius.  These aspects will have a profound effect on friendships, bringing back people from our past, and eliminating behaviors and emotional patterns that no longer serve our best interests.  It is truly a time of releasing outworn emotional energy.

On July 30-31, 2018, Mars will be the closest to the Earth since 2003.  It will be highly visible and the aggressive nature of Mars will be amplified.  And Mars in Aquarius is moving into an exact square with Uranus in Taurus on August 1, 2018 in 2 degrees of the respective signs. What can we expect with Mars squaring Uranus?  This transit provides a strong urge to break free from restrictions and rebel against authority.  It can be a very disruptive influence if we act rashly without regard for the consequences but it can also lead to creative breakthroughs if we channel this energy constructively.

But there is some cause for rejoicing when the sun enters the fire sign of Leo on July 22, 2018.  The sun in Leo is a time to shine, enjoy life, play and be generous.  The flip side of Leo is a tendency to be self-centered and vain with an inclination to be arrogant.  But the sun rules Leo and is very comfortable in its home sign, so enjoy its fun loving and creative vibe.  And the sun in 4 degrees of Leo will be in direct opposition to that retrograde out of bounds Mars in 4 degrees of Aquarius on the lunar eclipse of July 27, 2018, which may bring some more emotional fireworks.

Mars Out of Bounds and Saturn Direct

Mars in 2 degrees of Sagittarius entered a phase called Out of Bounds on August 8, 2016 and I confess that I didn’t see it coming.  A planet is considered to be out of bounds when its orbit is greater than 23 degrees and 27 minutes north or south of the equator.

What does out of bounds imply for a planet?  Basically, it means that the energy of the planet feels stretched and out of control.  It is literally wild card energy.  When Mars is out of bounds, aggression, impulsivity, violence, self-centeredness, anger, extreme force and a tendency to pick unprovoked fights runs rampant. But on the plus side, Mars out of bounds can bestow us with courage, ambition, self-confidence, willpower, stamina and physical vitality.  Mars will be out of bound through October 30, 2016, which is a clear indicator that we can expect more disruptive energy in this very unusual election year. 

I checked my own chart and discovered that I was born under the influence of an out of bounds Mars in Aquarius.  Anyone who knows me well is aware that I am fully capable of great tenacity and the occasional tendency to literally shock people by rebelling against the status quo.  Katherine Hepburn was also born with Mars in Capricorn out of bounds, and she was definitely no slouch in the iconoclast department.

My personal prelude to Mars out of bounds occurred on August 7, 2016 when the Sun in Leo inconjuncted Pluto in Capricorn.  On that day I tweeted:

“Power struggles are possible today with Leo sun inconjunct Pluto in Capricorn. Adjustments and/or compromises may be required.”

This manifested in a big way for me when I received an email on August 7^th from the Celebration of Reiki organization that the legislature in Massachusetts was trying to pass a bill (Senate Bill S2461) which would prohibit Reiki practitioners in the state of Massachusetts from practicing without having a license and passing a course of study of at least 500 classroom hours.   While I applaud the legislature’s efforts to protect women and children from human trafficking in the form of forced prostitution and sexual abuse, I do not believe that Reiki is a form of bodywork that poses any kind of threat to them because clients are fully clothed during a session and there is no inappropriate touching.  I touch the feet during a session to ground the person.  Period. Reiki is a form of energy therapy and while most Reiki practitioners have completed Reiki 1, 2 and 3, there is no nationally accredited program or licensing procedure. If this bill is passed and takes effect on January 1, 2017, I will be out of business and my Reiki clients will be deprived of the healing benefits of Reiki. This bill represents a threat to the livelihood of Reiki practitioners in Massachusetts and it hit home really hard. 

On August 8^th, when Mars entered its out of bound period, I sprang into action. I responded to the Call for Action.  I sent emails and placed phone calls to members of the Senate and House to register my opposition to the inclusion of Reiki in this bill. And I attempted to explain how safe and non-invasive Reiki is. Ironically, Mercury in Virgo was conjunct the north node in Virgo on that day, so I was living out the energy of that aspect by attempting to restore some sense of order through communication.  I even sent a letter by snail mail to the author of the bill at the State House in Boston.  The Joint Committee on Healthcare Financing is only accepting email testimony from interested parties through August 27^th, so there was no time to waste.

I am an astrologer, psychic and Reiki practitioner.  These practices constitute a large percentage of my multiple streams of income as a healer, and I don’t take kindly to any of my sources of income being threatened. My out of bounds Mars kicked into high gear this week as I fought for a cause that I believed in.  The eclipse on September 1, 2016 in 9 degrees of Virgo will be trining my north node in Capricorn, so I am hoping that all Reiki practitioners in Massachusetts will be able to continue practicing in 2017 without interference.

Saturn will station direct in 9 degrees of Sagittarius on August 13, 2016 after having been retrograde since March 25, 2016. This will be a time of reckoning, when we need to be responsible for our actions and understand what Saturn has been trying to teach us for the past few months. Whenever a planet stations, its energy is extremely powerful. Saturn, after all, is known as the Great Teacher.  But Saturn is a strict teacher that demands that you do the work by forcing you to confront your fears and insecurities so that you can muster the courage to move forward.  We need to stop being our iown harshest critic and let go of the self-criticism that no longer serves us. Any blockages that we have faced since March 2016 can be released now.  There may even be some rewards coming our way if we have done the work and we could actually feel lighter and more relaxed.

Saturn has been parked in my second house of finances and values since November 2013 and I am chomping at the bit waiting for it to leave that house in November 2016. OK, I did have a brief reprieve when it was briefly in my third house from February through mid-May 2016, but it will back in my third house for good on November 6^th.  I have some important decisions to make regarding my finances, so my lesson isn’t completely learned yet.  But I am ready to move forward.

Saturn’s potent energy to create new structures will remain strong until we hit a slight  speed bump on August 24, 2016 when Mars in Sagittarius conjuncts it. A Mars Saturn conjunction is accompanied by delays, frustrations and obstacles that can make you feel like you are driving full speed with your foot on the brakes. I have a Mars Saturn square aspect natally, so I am all too familiar with the challenges that these two planets pose when they are not in a flowing alignment. My advice is to get busy now and be prepared for the slowdown that is headed our way on August 24^th. Do the work NOW!

The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am still channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
