Mars Squares Off with Uranus, Moves into Pisces and a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo

 

Here we go again.  Mars in Aquarius is squaring Uranus in 27 degrees of Taurus on February 27.  I promise that this is the last of the planets in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus, which has been quite an intense experience for anyone who has planets in the late degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio in 2026.

Mars squaring Uranus is characterized by impatience, frustration, irrational anger and rebellion against restrictive influences. It can be accident prone energy and the potential for violence can't be ruled out.  I have my natal Pluto in 26 degrees of Leo, so Mars is opposing my Pluto and Uranus is squaring it. Good times aren't exactly in the cards.  But Uranus in Taurus is forming a supportive sextile to my natal Uranus in Cancer so I am holding out hope for some positive change.  This is a very volatile vibe, so I am cautioning everyone to be careful on this day.

The month of February began with a Full Moon in Leo on February 1, but it will end on a more harmonious note on February 28 when Mercury (retrograde) and Venus are conjunct in 21 degrees of Pisces.  Communications should be calmer as it will be easier to share love and affection.  This aspect encourages cooperation and diplomacy.  It also fosters creativity and holds the promise of positive financial news.  

Mars moves into Pisces on March 2 and stays there until April 9.  When Mars is in Pisces our motivation shifts to pursuing more spiritual or emotional goals.  Compassion is a driving force and we are less inclined towards confrontation.  This is mutable water energy, so we can be very chameleon like and adaptable.  But there is the shadow side of confusion and passive-aggressive behavior.  There is a certain nebulous quality that can cause confusion, especially with Mercury retrograde in Pisces.

There is a total blood moon Lunar Eclipse in 12 degrees of Virgo on March 3.  This one has major themes of letting go, surrendering, not trying to be perfect and trusting in the process.  It's a tall order to fill.  Logic versus intuition and this eclipse is opposing its ruling planet Mercury in 20 degrees of Pisces, which is also retrograde.  We are going to need to release some old mental patterns but the retrograde status of Mercury indicates that we will undoubtedly experience some confusion.  Trust me, this is a complicated Full Moon Lunar Eclipse and while we can't expect to have everything figured out, there are some guideposts.

Let's break it down.  The Moon in Virgo is conjunct the South Node in 8 degrees of Virgo, further emphasizing the karmic release theme.  We need to let go of being too controlling, perfect, overly critical and to be of service to others to the point that it harms us. That Virgo Moon is also opposing the asteroid Pallas Athena in 12 degrees of Pisces.  So we have the potential for some aggressive behavior which has a way of emerging on Full Moons, there is also the likelihood of acquiring some wisdom.  Pallas Athena is the asteroid known as the warrior goddess, but strategic intelligence. But this Virgo Moon is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 15 degrees of Cancer, which encourages self-compassion and is a boost for doing what nurtures our soul. Keep that in mind.

This Lunar Eclipse is squaring my natal Moon in Gemini in my 8th house and forming an exact sextile to my Saturn in Scorpio in my 1st house, so I have no doubt that this will be highly charged and emotional eclipse that requires some restructuring in my life.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. A Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius with Retrograde Mars square Uranus and Mercury Retrograde to Boot

Are you still standing?  This past week we have seen the Leo sun square Uranus in Taurus on July 25, 2018, prompting me to tweet:

On July 25^th, I also spent time at the Massachusetts State House at a rally to voice my opposition to SB 2621, a piece of legislation designed to set up a new licensing process for all types of healers which would require us to go back to school to attend certain board-approved education programs to quality for the new state license.  It would put many of us practitioners out of business.  It did not escape me that two years ago during the last Mars retrograde, a similar bill SB 2461 was also rushed through the legislature during the summer months and it was defeated.  Here is a group photo of some of us who attended:

On the following day, July 26, 2018, Mercury stationed retrograde in 23 degrees of Leo, inspiring me to tweet:

But on July 27, 2018 at 4:20 p.m. on the east coast of the United States, we will have the longest lunar eclipse of this century, lasting one hour and forty three minutes, in 4 degrees of Aquarius.  It is called a blood moon eclipse because it is a total lunar eclipse with the full moon passing through the Earth’s shadow and turning a deep red color. 

I always tell my clients that lunar eclipses are like full moon on steroids, so there is no denying how powerful this eclipse will be.  Lunar eclipses have a tendency to bring culmination, closure and reveal secrets and turn up people from the past.  And old behaviors could emerge for purging as well. The fact that this eclipse falls in the sign of Aquarius indicates that the changes it brings could involve friendships, social networks and the collective.  It will have strong themes of freedom and authenticity, and is a repeat of the same eclipse that occurred on July 28, 1999.  I urge those of you old enough to remember to reflect on that time in your life and see if any similar issues are resurfacing.  This eclipse occurs at the south node of the moon, so it literally is all about releasing the past and behaviors that no longer serve us.

Retrograde Mars in Aquarius is really calling the shots in this eclipse.  It is also out of bounds because its declination is greater than 23 degrees and 27 minutes north or south of the sun, which makes it even more out of control and amps up the frustration level.  In addition to being conjunct the moon, Mars is conjunct the south node in Aquarius, which increases the emphasis on the collective and humanity.  But its conjunction to the south node also generates conflict by bringing up resentments from the past and can be a time when we need to stand up for ourselves.  Mars is also opposing the sun in Leo, which is very unpredictable and can trigger some emotionally jarring events.  But try to remember that the sun in Leo is also conjunct the north node in Leo, which is providing us with the courage to forge ahead in our path.

Mars is also involved in an ongoing square with Uranus in Taurus, which will be exact on August 1, 2018.  The first exact square occurred on May 15, 2018.  The main thing to remember with Mars squaring Uranus is that it tends to bring fast moving events and lots of chaos.  Mars squaring Uranus is also about social revolution, which we are certainly seeing plenty of these days.  The higher manifestation of this energy is Mars pouring energy into the sign of Aquarius to benefit humanity by focusing on people as equal and not being critical of their differences. 

The lunar eclipse also falls on the nodal axis of the United States chart from July 4, 1776, featuring the north node in 6 degrees of Leo in the 8^th house and the south node in 6 degrees of Aquarius in the 2^nd house.  This will impact the economy and mark international trade endings and beginnings.  The actions and decisions that are made now in our country will have a pivotal effect in the way the world moves.

As for me personally, this eclipse falls in my 4^th house, squaring my natal Mercury and Pallas Athena in Scorpio in my 1^st house.  And it opposes my Jupiter in Cancer in the 10^th house.  This year’s eclipses involve my 4^th and 10^th houses, so I have been seeing big changes on the home front and in my career.  The recent upset with the SB 2621 bill that would challenge the livelihood of not only Reiki practitioners, but yoga and Tai Chi as well. The current law protects Reiki practitioners but if SB 2621 is passed, that may very well change.  I am definitely opposed to human trafficking, but depriving people of their livelihoods and the public’s right to access natural healing therapies is not the best way to go.  So I guess you could say that I have already been feeling the impact of this lunar eclipse in Aquarius.

And just to give you all fair warning that Mercury is retrograde until August 19, 2018, when it stations direct in 11 degrees of Leo.  You know the drill: don’t sign any contracts if you can help it, take a new job, or purchase a car or electronic devices.  Expect delays in communication and transportation.  Try not to make any major decisions, but instead use this time to reflect and review on what is important to you in your life.  Take stock of what isn’t working so that you can implement whatever changes need to be made when Mercury is direct and preferably out of its shadow in early September.

Uranus Creates More Upheavals and Mars Moves into Leo

Uranus in Aries has been stirring the astrological pot even after that intense full moon in Capricorn on July 9^th.  The moon moved into Aquarius on July 10^th, which was a huge relief with its airy detached quality.  But on July it sextiled Uranus in Aries, inspiring me to tweet:

This was an easygoing, pleasant aspect for Uranus.  But the big guns start firing on Uranus on July 17, 2017 when Mars in 27 degrees of Cancer squares Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  This aspect is bound to be highly emotional, unpredictable and leave us feeling even more on the edge than many of us already are. It may very well trigger an event that could help us release negative feelings.  Mars squaring Uranus has themes of rebellion against authority and an urge to break free from restrictions.  With both of these planets in cardinal signs, there will be a strong impetus to take some kind of action.  And Mars squaring Uranus has an accident prone quality about it, so please be careful on that day.  Transiting Mars will be conjunct my natal Uranus and Jupiter in the 10^th house, which has me feeling a little anxious about this aspect.

On July 20, 2017, the Sun in 28 degrees of Cancer will be squaring Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  This is the second Sun/Uranus square aspect of 2017.  The first one occurred on January 10, 2017 with the sun and Uranus in 20 degrees of Capricorn and Aries.  What was shaking back then?  With a Cancer sun squaring Uranus in Aries, nervous tension is a given and there can be angry outbursts.  Uncertainty will prevail.  Intuitively I sense that the best way to deal with this highly erratic energy is to be flexible and as proactive as possible about positive change.

But about 12 hours before the sun squares Uranus on July 20^th, Mars moves into Leo for the next six weeks until September 5, 2017.  This should provide a welcome relief from the uber-emotional energy of Mars in Cancer.  Mars in Cancer is inclined to be defensive and passive aggressive and its role in the recent Capricorn full moon (it was squaring Jupiter in Libra) has taken its toll on many relationships.  Mars in Leo will roar in like its symbolic lion, helping us to act more assertively and directly.  Mars in Leo is all about striving to achieve and actively seeks out passion.  When Mars is in Leo energy will be expended on entertainment, theater, fine dining and spending money.  We want to get out and party after the home centered energy of Mars in Cancer.  The only things we need to be mindful of when Mars is in Leo is a slight tendency to act in a self-centered manner and some potential for dangers to children.  Children can be more susceptible to cuts, burns and accidents when Mars is transiting Leo.  So keep a close eye on the kids and enjoy the creative, fun-loving energy of Mars in Leo.  It’s a nice way to complete the summer.
