Chiron Goes Direct in Aries and a Case of the Big Feels with a Super Full Moon in Cancer

 

Happy New Year!  I know that it is finally 2026, but I suspect that many of us are still dealing with a 2025 hangover trying to resolve problems that are resistant to being solved.  There is an astrological explanation for this: the planets Venus, Mercury and Mars are out of bounds. These are very personal planets, folks.  Venus in Capricorn will be back in bounds on January 3, Mercury has been out of bounds since December 18 and will be back in bounds on January 15 and Mars has been out of bounds since late November but will be back in bounds on January 4.  The thing to remember with out of bounds planets is that they act erratically, sort of like a retrograde planet.  Ah, the plot thickens.

On New Year's Eve, December 31, out of bounds Mercury in Sagittarius was inconjunct Uranus in Taurus.  I experienced my own personal Mercury retrograde hell with two different experiences.  I spent the afternoon at Urgent Care being tested and diagnosed for diverticulitis. I had this seven months ago and pretty much suspected that I had it again, although they didn't seem to know why it returned. I guess it is genetic, because I was trying to follow a healthy lifestyle.  I was given a prescription for an antibiotic and received a text from my pharmacy that it was ready, but the pharmacy was closed until 9:00 a.m. on January 2.  Then later that evening my husband and I tried to watch Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on CNN for the New Year's Eve countdown.  No CNN.  We had a problem with getting CNN from Xfinity on December 15 and I spent hours dealing with them to get it back. I got in touch with them finally but I kept hearing some stuff about a work order (that was to reduce our bill) and new equipment that they insisted on sending for our Internet service.  It still hasn't been resolved.  My husband loves to watch CNN and we do have it on a Roku device on a kitchen TV that doesn't have cable.  We just might literally be cutting the cord this year with cable...  I couldn't help thinking that this was how Mercury inconjunct Uranus was playing out for me in terms of communication snafus and adjustments to be made.  At least Mercury entered Capricorn at 4:11 p.m. on January 1.

Chiron will station direct in 22 degrees of Aries at 9:38 a.m. on January 2, 2026.  Chiron has been retrograde in Aries since July 30, 2025 when it stationed at 27 degrees of Aries.  Chiron retrograde has offered us the opportunity to obtain more insight about our personal trauma and emotional wounds.  Chiron in Aries has a strong theme of feeling wounded for its existence, so anyone undergoing their Chiron Return has been dealing with this quite extensively.  Chiron has been in Aries since April 2018, with a brief trip back into Pisces from September 2018 through February 2019.  

Now that Chiron is direct in Aries, we can find the courage to take the necessary steps to heal and be our true, authentic self.  It might not be an easy process, but it is well worth it. The past five months have brought those old emotional wounds to the surface so that we can move forward.  Let the healing begin, I say, but don't expect it to happen automatically.  We all need to find our inner warrior (Aries is ruled by Mars) to bravely embrace an emotionally healthier future.

The really big deal this week is the Super Full Moon in 13 degrees of Cancer on January 3, 2026.  It is super close to the earth, hence it being described as a Super Full Moon.  The Moon rules Cancer, so it is comfortable there.  It has a potent theme of nourishing, nurturing and establishing strong connections.  I describe it as being a case of the big feels because it is also conjunct Jupiter 21 degrees of Cancer.  Jupiter is exalted in the sign of Cancer.  Emotions will be on display.  The Full Moon in Cancer is also associated with emotional clarity and a time to let go of old behavior patterns that are no longer serving us.  Try to share your feelings.  The Full Moon in Cancer is also trining the North Node in 10 degrees of Pisces, which can foster compassion and a spiritual connection.

One important lesson we can learn from this Full Moon in Cancer is regarding how our expectations meet or don't meet our needs. As the Rolling Stones used to sing, you can't always get what you want, but sometimes you might just get what you need.  Don't rule out emotional drama with this Full Moon because it is opposing Venus and Mars in Capricorn. Beginnings and endings in relationships are possible. The Moon in Cancer will be opposing Mercury in Capricorn on January 2, so conversations could get quite intense and heated.  But all over, this looks to be a supportive and promising Full Moon to launch 2026.

 

Now that we have the Sun, Mars, Venus and Mercury in Capricorn we are in a position to plan, strategize and be productive.  We are definitely in a mood to achieve.  I am not saying that everything will work out the first time we try, especially with Mercury out of bounds until January 15, but at least the first half of the month encourages us to start thinking more about how to implement the changes we want to see. The Sun and Venus are conjunct in 16 degrees of Capricorn on January 6 which is a delightful aspect on January 7 Venus and Mars are conjunct in 18 degrees of Capricorn.  These conjunctions in Capricorn hold the promise of attracting money and fresh starts in relationships.  They are also a boon for creativity, so go for it and get those juices flowing.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mercury in Sagittarius Has Some Final Moves Before it Enters Capricorn on January 1, 2026

The year 2025 is ending with Mercury in fire sign Sagittarius.  Mercury has spent quite a bit of time in Sagittarius due to the Mercury retrograde in November.  Mercury had initially entered Sagittarius on October 29 but stationed retrograde in 6 degrees of Sagittarius on November 9, backtracked into Scorpio on November 18 and revisited Sagittarius on December 11 when it was direct.  Mercury in Sagittarius is well-known for its bluntness, honesty and tendency not to think things through.  It's all about the big picture and not so much the details.

On December 27, Mercury in Sagittarius will be forming an irritating inconjunct aspect with Jupiter in 22 degrees of Cancer.  On this day we might have a tendency to ignore the details and promise more than we can deliver.  This is exacerbated because Mercury is in the sign that Jupiter rules.  We are going to need to adjust our expectations or we could be facing some problems...

Mercury in Sagittarius will be trining Chiron in 22 degrees of Aries on the 27th as well, which can play out as communication helping to heal our emotional wounds.  That sounds good to me...

On December 30, Mercury in Sagittarius will be squaring Saturn in 26 degrees of Pisces.  Squares to Saturn are never fun or easy.  With Mercury squaring Saturn, we could be dealing with some distance or separation in close relationships.  We might be feeling more reserved or cautious.  It's also easier to fall into negative thinking, criticism or depression.  Just remember that we are probably seeing the worst-case scenarios and that this is a temporary vibe.

The year 2025 ends with Mercury in Sagittarius inconjunct Uranus in 27 degrees of Taurus.  Talk about a wild card vibe.  There can be sudden changes in our thinking and plans for New Year's Eve.  Try not to make any major decisions that involve big commitments on this day.  And be careful with multi-tasking because information overload can be the result if we aren't mindful.

We begin 2026 with Mercury in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces at 8:33 a.m.  This can manifest as some confusion, mental fuzziness, brain fog, misunderstandings, and wishful thinking.  It is occurring pretty early, so perhaps some of us will still be asleep and having some strange dreams.  But I promise that this is the last aspect that Mercury in Sagittarius will make.

Mercury will enter the cardinal earth sign Capricorn at 4:11 p.m. on January 1, 2026 and stay there until January 20.  Happy New Year!  I think it's pretty safe to say that many of us are glad to see 2025 go with all of the changes and uncertainty it has wreaked.  I have no doubt that 2026 will usher in even more changes, but with Saturn and Neptune moving from Pisces to the cardinal fire sign of Aries, we can feel more comfortable initiating and embracing those changes.  And Uranus will be moving into Gemini in April 2026, so we can anticipate a major shift from water and earth to fire and air energy in the coming year.

When Mercury is in Capricorn, our thinking will be more structured, practical and disciplined.  We will be more organized and detail-oriented.  This is indeed a perfect time to work on those New Year's Resolutions because it is so much easier for us to focus.  It will be a big change from the all over the place vibe of Mercury in Sagittarius.  Just realize that the shadow side of Mercury in Capricorn is an inclination towards excessive rigidity, self-judgment and self-criticism.  If we proceed with a modicum of caution, we should fare very well and be quite productive during Mercury's transit through Capricorn.

A Super-Charged New Moon in Sagittarius, More Squares Between Sagittarius and Pisces Planets, and the Sun and Venus Enter Capricorn

 

We are by no means done with the squares between the planets in Sagittarius and Pisces.  Last week's square on December 14 between Mars in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces was downright lethal.  The themes of aggression, addiction and victimization prevailed as we heard news about the shootings at Brown University, Bondhi Beach and the tragic murders of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner.

On December 13, Mars in Sagittarius was inconjunct Uranus in 28 degrees of Taurus. Mars and Uranus contacts are frequently associated with violence.  On that day I posted on Blue Sky Social:

Mars in Sagittarius is forming an irritating inconjunct with Uranus in Taurus today which can cause havoc and require that we make adjustments on the fly. Be prepared for unexpected events to occur… #astrology

I hate to say it, but having Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces until January 26, 2026 is only going to trigger more of these themes.  Hopefully we can avoid more bloodshed, but Neptune in Pisces has a very dark side that just might rear its ugly head in the next few weeks.  But let us hope that it can also bring us a spiritual awakening by encouraging more compassion and dissolution of old illusions for a collective rebirth.

On December 19, we have the last New Moon of 2025: a New Moon in 28 degrees of Sagittarius. We are not escaping the tension of the squares with this New Moon: it squares both Saturn and Neptune in Pisces.  This can trigger old emotional insecurities, doubts and emphasizes boundary issue as well as providing a cold reality check.  The New Moon in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces can also bring more confusion. There is also the factor that the New Moon is inconjunct Uranus in 28 degrees of Taurus, adding to the unpredictability factor.

Relationships will be a big area of focus on this New Moon because it is also conjunct Venus in 23 degrees of Sagittarius. The Moon in Sagittarius is in mutual reception with Jupiter in 22 degrees of Cancer because both planets are in each other's signs, so this can function like a conjunction, which is a good thing.

This New Moon in Sagittarius has themes of restlessness, as well as a craving for adventure and joy.  It is time to break free of old patterns that have been holding us back since 2020.  It is very future oriented, so set those new intentions.  We might already be feeling the energy of 2026, which is bound to be a game changing year.

On December 20, the Sun in Sagittarius is squaring Neptune in Pisces.  This can weaken our vitality and our energy levels could be low on this day.  It can also lend a note of deception to personal relationships.  

Venus in Sagittarius is squaring Saturn in 25 degrees of Pisces on December 21.  This can bring stress to love and finances, as well as temporary feelings of loneliness and depression.  The Sun moves into Capricorn at 10:03 a.m. on the 21st, which shifts the focus to responsibility, ambition, realism and practicality.  It is time to buckle down to business and work hard.  It is also the first day of winter.

On December 24, Christmas Eve, Venus in Sagittarius is squaring Neptune in Pisces.  This aspect can be associated with poor self-image and we might be inclined to think we need to spend more money on gifts in order to be loved.  Self-discipline is definitely missing in action with this aspect in play.  It can be easier to be ripped off and addiction can surface too with Venus squaring Neptune.

Venus enters Capricorn at 11:26 a.m. on December 24 and remains there until January 17, 2026.  When Venus is in Capricorn, we tend to approach relationships and finances in a more practical and mature fashion.  We are taking relationships more seriously during this time.

On Christmas Day, December 25, the Moon is in Pisces, forming supportive sextiles to both the Sun and Mars in Capricorn.  Here's hoping that just maybe we can act in a more compassionate manner for the holiday.  I wish everyone a very peaceful and Merry Christmas.

The Squares Continue with Mars in Sagittarius Squaring Neptune in Pisces, the Sun in Sagittarius Squaring Saturn in Pisces and Mars Enters Capricorn

Are you still standing from the Mars-Saturn square of December 8?  It was not an easy day for me, especially since I am one of those people who are born with that aspect. Talk about frustration, delays and getting nowhere fast.   But on December 14, Mars in Sagittarius will be squaring Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces, so the squares are not over by a long shot.  At least Neptune is direct at last.

What can we expect from Mars in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces?  The themes of confusion, self-deception, lies, guilt, low energy and passive aggressive behavior are all rampant.  Addiction could rear its ugly head and the potential to be victimized is also possible.  Our immune systems could be compromised, so don't hesitate to get any health concerns checked out.  It can be a time of spiritual crisis, but also keep in mind that things can seem worse than they really are.  Just be careful on this day...

On December 16, the Sun in Sagittarius is squaring Saturn in 25 degrees of Pisces.  This marks another day of being tested and challenged.  We can be prone to pessimism and depression.  This is not a day to shirk responsibilities. Like it or not, we need to cultivate patience, determination and a strong work ethic.  Slacking is not an option on this day.  We need to be self-disciplined even if isn't fun as the Sun squaring Saturn represents a major reality check time.

We do get some help on December 15 when Mars enters Capricorn until January 23.  Good news, Mars is exalted in the sign of Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn.  The Mars in Capricorn transit will assist us in accomplishing our goals because it is a very effective Mars for producing results.  When Mars is in Capricorn, we are more ambitious, hard-working and driven to succeed.  We should feel a boost in energy and momentum after last month and the recent retrogrades. We will be doing things with purpose and Mars in Capricorn is also quite helpful in terms of securing finances. We can expect a boost in confidence and assertiveness.  Mars in Capricorn is more focused than Mars in Sagittarius, which tends to be all over the place and motivated by the big picture.  Dare I say that we might feel like we have more control over our actions and our lives when Mars is in Capricorn?

I can't promise you that the challenging square aspects are over (more to come next week), but we do have a strong and empowered Mars to energize us in the days to come and that is nothing to sneeze at.  Let's be grateful for this cosmic blessing.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mercury on the Move from Scorpio to Sagittarius, Mars in Sagittarius Squaring Saturn in Pisces and Neptune Goes Direct in Pisces

 

Mercury is direct and moving more quickly as it prepares to re-enter Sagittarius on December 11.  But it still has some unfinished business to conduct in Scorpio first.  On December 6, Mercury in Scorpio will be trining Jupiter in 24 degrees of Cancer.  This can bring good news and is quite favorable for making plans.  It's also positive energy for traveling or learning.  Just be mindful of the tendency to be too impulsive or overconfident.

On December 7, Mercury in Scorpio will be trining Saturn in 25 degrees of Cancer.  Things will get more serious with strong attention to details.  Common sense will prevail. Self-discipline and critical thinking are in high supply on this day.  

I just want to caution everyone that Mercury in its final days of Scorpio can be quite sharp in the way it communicates.  When Mercury enters Sagittarius on December 11 until January 1, 2026, communication takes on a blunt, direct and sometimes tactless tone.  The difference between Mercury in Scorpio and Mercury in Sagittarius is that the cruelty and biting words that emerge during Mercury in Scorpio are intentional and carefully calculated, while it just sort of happens without thinking when Mercury is in Sagittarius.

Mars in Sagittarius is squaring Saturn in 25 degrees of Pisces on December 8.  This aspect is kicking off the squares between the planets in Sagittarius and Pisces that will characterize the month of December.  The Sun in Sagittarius will be squaring Saturn in Pisces on December 16, then the Sun will be squaring Neptune in Pisces on December 20 and Venus in Sagittarius will be squaring Saturn in Pisces on December 21. And we could be feeling the effects of this Mars-Saturn square a couple of days early.

What can we expect with Mars squaring Saturn?  Well, I have this aspect natally with Mars in Aquarius and Saturn in Scorpio, so I can tell you that its theme is delayed gratification. This aspect is my life, like it or not.  We need to do our behaviors differently.  Frustrations, limitations and inhibitions are part and parcel of this aspect.  Mars is the planet of action and wants to accelerate while Saturn is overly cautious with its foot on the brake.  The most challenging piece of this aspect is that we need to accept the fact that progress will probably not happen on this day and it will be very easy to become discouraged or depressed.  If we try to fight the restrictions we are facing, we could wind up being our own worst enemy.  Trust me on this score, I have learned this lesson the hard way through the years.  Sometimes I think it is the most self-destructive aspect in my chart.  Yes, we might be fearing failure, but try to strengthen your patience.  This is the key to gleaning an opportunity from this challenging aspect. Patience needs to be cultivated.

Neptune finally goes direct in 29 degrees of Pisces on December 10.  Neptune stationed retrograde in 2 degrees of Aries on July 4 and is ready to move forward into Aries on January 26, 2026. Now that Neptune will be direct in Pisces, it is time to close the karmic loops and surrender any victim narratives in our lives.  Neptune has been in Pisces since 2011 and 2012, with the exception of its brief foray into Aries from late March until October 22. If you have any planets in the late degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, you will feel this acutely.  It is a time to dissolve illusions and release what is no longer serving our best interests.  Wrap up the unfinished business that started in 2011 and 2012 when Neptune entered Pisces.  Whenever a planet is at 29 degrees, it is at a critical point when we are required to integrate, dissolve and release the old before a new cycle can commence.  When Neptune enters Aries, we will be infused with energy to act on making our dreams real.  It will be a huge collective shift.  The last time Neptune was in Aries was from 1861-1874 and that era marked great changes in the world.
