Astrological Green Light as Mars Goes Direct after Jupiter and Pluto Set the Stage

We are FINALLY getting the astrological green light to pursue our dreams when Mars stations direct in 23 degrees of Scorpio on June 29, 2016.  Mars started its retrograde stint in 8 degrees of Sagittarius on April 17, 2016.  I don’t know about you, but it feels like it has been retrograde forever to me.  Mars retrograde only happens every two years (thank God), but it has a tendency to feel like Mars transiting the 12th house.  This makes it damned near impossible to launch new endeavors or move forward and places the focus on the past we are forced to regroup.  We need to clear away old debris so that when mighty Mars is direct we can take action to manifest our dreams.

Speaking of dreams, Jupiter plays a pretty sweet role in setting the stage for Mars direct when it trines Pluto in Capricorn on June 26, 2016 in 16 degrees of the respective signs.  When Jupiter trines Pluto in earth signs, it renews our sense of limitless power.  It’s a favorable aspect for combining Jupiter’s dreams with Pluto’s power. We also have Mercury in Gemini sextiling Uranus in Aries on that day to add a jolt of innovative thinking to the mix.
This is the third Jupiter Pluto trine.  The first one occurred on October 11, 2015 in 13 degrees and the second one happened on March 16, 2016 in 17 degrees sandwiched between the game changing March eclipses of March 8th and March 23rd.  The theme of a Jupiter Pluto trine is to regain power over a part of our life and transform it for the long-term by working hard to eliminate our fears and obsessions that no longer serve us and impede our growth.  Jupiter in Virgo makes us work hard for our blessings and Pluto is all about transformation. Another interesting feature about this aspect is that anyone with planets or points located between 13-16 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn has been undergoing a tremendous amount of transformation and growth during the past year. Pluto has been squaring my Libra ascendant and I can definitely attest to the rebirth process in my identity.

We are still under the influence of the Mutable Grand Cross, which was most recently activated on June 19, 2016 with Neptune in 12 degrees of Pisces, Saturn in 11 degrees of Sagittarius, Jupiter in 15 degrees of Virgo and Mercury in 9 degrees of Gemini.  And the moon was also in Sagittarius on that day, so it really emphasized that mutable energy.  If you felt stretched in several directions, this is the reason why,

Jupiter has also been pretty busy hooking up with the north node of the moon.  Jupiter is considered to be in fall in the sign of Virgo, so we need to keep our expectations for profits modest. The best way to utilize this energy and reap its benefits is to create some order out the chaos and be as compassionate as possible.  If you are wondering how this is playing it for you, look to the house of your chart where Jupiter and the north node in Virgo are transiting. Or consider getting an astrological reading with me – my three and six month transit readings are a perfect way to resolve this and other issues for you. Jupiter is transiting my 11th house of dreams, friendships and group associations until July 5th.  Then it enters my 12th house, which should be a pretty sweet spot for my spiritual work.

Now, back to that Mars stationing direct on June 29, 2016.  Did you think that I got swept away in digression by that Mutable Grand Cross?  When Mars stations direct in 23 degrees of Scorpio, it will be conjunct my Venus in Scorpio in the 2nd house.  Is it any wonder that I am positively giddy about Mars direct?  This is superb energy for relationships, creative endeavors and is bound to have a positive effect on love, valued and finances.

Mark my words, Mars stationing direct is a very good thing.  It is literally a green light to move forward in whatever area of life you have felt stuck in since April 2016. Remember that this retrograde started in 8 degrees of Sagittarius and ended in 23 degrees of Scorpio, so its impact may have been very far-reaching.  Prepare for an adrenaline blast of energy to jolt you out of your doldrums on June 29, 2016.

As I was writing this blog, I couldn’t get the words from the old Age of Aquarius song out of my mind.  This was a famous song recorded by the Fifth Dimension in the late 1960’s when Uranus and Pluto were in Virgo. The lyrics that kept reverberating were:

“When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars.”

I looked at the ephemeris for June 29, 2016 and discovered that the moon in Aries and Taurus will be in my 7th house that day and that Jupiter will be aligning with Mars via a seven degree sextile aspect.  Jupiter will be in 16 degrees of Virgo and Mars in 23 degrees of Scorpio.  It’s not that tight an aspect and not as powerful as a conjunction, but I’ll take it.  I can only hope it will bring some sense of peace to our world. I have frequently felt that this year is strangely reminiscent of 1968 and I know that I am not alone in that thought.

As Mars moves forward over the summer months it is headed towards a conjunction with Saturn in 9 degrees of Sagittarius on August 24, 2016.  This is not necessarily a bad thing. Mars can act to realize Saturn’s long range goals if we have done the work of learning to control our anger.  It can also give us clarity of purpose and foster disciplined patient action. Astrologer Noel Tyl used these key words to describe a Mars Saturn aspect: “Indomitable will” and “Resourcefulness.”  Personally, I can’t think of a better way to conclude this piece on Mars and imbue you with a sense of hope for achieving your goals.

Second Time Around for Saturn Neptune Square and Sagittarius Full Moon

It’s do-over season, folks.  Between June 17th and June 20th, we have opportunities to have a do-over in all matters ruled by Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is associated with the search for truth, adventure, travel and wisdom while being challenged in the area of tact.  That Sagittarian honesty can at times lead to downright bluntness. On June 17, 2016 Saturn in Sagittarius forms the second of three squares with Neptune in Pisces.  The first occurred on November 26, 2015 which was Thanksgiving Day in the United States.  Both Saturn and Neptune were direct in 7 degrees of their respective signs.  On June 17, 2016 both Saturn and Neptune are retrograde in 12 degrees of their respective signs.  The frustration we feel with both planets retrograde may have more internal than external ramifications. The third exact square between Saturn and Neptune occurs on September 10, 2016 in 10 degrees of both signs.  Saturn will be direct then but Neptune will remain retrograde.

And on June 20, 2016 we will have our second full moon in Sagittarius in 29 degrees, the first having occurred on May 21, 2016 in 1 degree of Sagittarius.  The 29th degree of any sign is frequently referred to as the Anaretic or critical degree.  It has a profound sense of urgency associated with it, as it is truly feeling like the last chance to get the lesson of that sign right. I have my Jupiter in 29 degrees of Cancer and I can attest to the veracity of that feeling.

The Saturn Neptune square is a deeply challenging aspect because it forces a major reality check.  Saturn is all about reality, hard work and structure.  It doesn’t have the moniker of the Taskmaster planet for nothing!  And Neptune loves its idealism, fantasy, spirituality and escapism. When these two planets tango, it becomes increasingly difficult, if not nearly impossible, to escape or remain in a state of denial.  Scattered illusions abound, as do feelings of confusion and depression.  Oh, yeah baby, Saturn is all about depression too.  Ask anyone who is undergoing a major Saturn transit and they will attest to that.  Another potential downside of this aspect is that artists, musicians and writers may experience creative blockages under the auspices of this aspect. Currently Neptune is transiting my 5th house of creativity and Saturn is camping out in my 2nd house of values and finances.  Is it any wonder that I am counting the days until Saturn is direct and out of my second house on November 6, 2016?

Saturn in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces is literally a battle royal between reality and idealism.  What a clash! Saturn in Sagittarius is putting us through our paces by presenting us with challenges and limitations in the process of making our dreams come true.  Michael Lutin nails the theme of the Saturn Neptune Square brilliantly with these words:  “Deep Look Where the Truth Becomes Lies and Lies Become the Truth and you cannot differentiate between crime and sin…..”

Check him out at:

And now a drum roll for the Full Moon in 29 degrees of Sagittarius on June 20, 2016. The themes of wisdom, the power of beliefs and expansion of consciousness re-emerge as the Gemini Sun’s curiosity faces off with the Sagittarius moon’s sharp instincts.  There could be a new big picture visible during this full moon.  This full moon widely trines Uranus in 22 degrees of Aries, which can trigger a jolt of awakening adrenaline when things happen fast. The moon in Sagittarius inspires us to trust our higher moral conscience to discern what is real and true for us personally.  The full moon in Sagittarius trines my Pluto in Leo in the 11th house, so this should be an interesting time to say the least…

The other planets are very active during this full moon. Venus entered the sign of Cancer on June 17th and the Sun enters Cancer on the evening of June 20th, marking the Summer Solstice.  Summer is officially here! And Mercury in Gemini is squaring off with Neptune in Pisces on June 20th, so pay attention to your dreams.  Mysticism, idealism and creativity can soar on that day.  The north node and Jupiter in Virgo are conjunct, emphasizing a theme of selfless service to the world.  And Neptune in Pisces is conjunct the south node so perhaps it will lift the veil over the fog of whatever is karmically holding us back.

If you need further proof that this is a time of do-overs, I’d like to share some words from astrologer Joseph Addeo regarding retrograde Mars in Scorpio that appeared in the June 14, 2016 NCGR newsletter:

“Mars retrograde is passing over the same late degrees of Scorpio that retrograde Saturn hit last summer.  In a nutshell, the challenges manifested from Saturn’s transit last summer area being actively reprocessed as Mars brings them back up for review and another chance for healing, emotional processing and transformation.  The summer has a déjà vu feeling in order to achieve a final purging and cleansing.  Then when all is said and done a new beginning can occur when Mars catches up to Saturn on August 24.”

Food for thought, n’est pas?  This is yet another indicator that we all may be forced to revisit an issue from the summer of 2015 that challenged us.  But we have the opportunity to move forward on August 24th when Mars and Saturn hook up in 7 degrees of Sagittarius on August 24, 2016.

The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. Mercury Joins the Planetary Party in Gemini

I don’t know about you, but I am still reeling from the new moon in Gemini that occurred on June 4, 2016.  It was pretty intense and nerve-wracking. I am just starting to feel more grounded. And on June 12, 2016, Mercury leaves Taurus after an extended stay courtesy of Mercury retrograde and enters the sign of Gemini to join the Sun and Venus who are already there.

But Mercury in Taurus went out with a bang.  Its swan song literally occurred on June 9, 2016 when it opposed retrograde Mars in 25 degrees of Scorpio.  It was an aspect rife with tension, arguments and conflicts.  Resentments had a tendency to spill out and provocative speeches undoubtedly triggered some hostile reactions. If we were fortunate enough to hold our tongues and not unleash that notorious Scorpio venom on others, we may still have been blindsided if we harbored any angry thoughts that provoked outbursts directed at us.  Mercury opposing Mars can work that way; even angry thoughts have the power to attract that kind of contentious energy.  Both Mars and Mercury were in fixed signs, so stubborn attitudes prevailed. Mars opposing Mercury is also very accident prone and can cause problems with machinery.  I hope that everyone survived this aspect, but if anyone had these kinds of experiences, there is a perfectly valid astrological reason.

Mercury moves into Gemini on June 12, 2016, where it resides until June 29, 2016.  Ironically, on that same day, Mars stations direct in 23 degrees of Scorpio.  Mercury rules the sign of Gemini, so it is right at home there.  Mercury in Gemini is sharp and fast and messages tend to be brief but pack a powerful punch.  Mercury in Gemini is blessed with the ability to see all sides of a situation (it is the sign of the Twins, after all) and loves to disseminate its wit and insights.  But it is also high-strung, fast-paced and tends to amplify anxiety and fears because Mercury in Gemini is all about nerves. Mercury in Gemini has a tendency to feel like it is on steroids.

When Mercury is in Gemini, we may find ourselves spending more time online and active on social media, which Gemini thrives on. We will really want to know what is going on everywhere with all of this mutable air energy.  Ideas, impressions and social curiosity are swirling at breakneck speeds. We literally want to have a finger in every pot, so to speak.  Just be careful not to dissipate all that energy and wind up feeling burned out and frazzled.  There will be so many options and choices out there it can leave us feeling very disconnected. On the plus side, it is an optimal time to collaborate and get to know your neighbors as well.

Mercury in Gemini is going to conjunct my Gemini moon in the 8th house on June 22, 2016 while simultaneously trining my Libra ascendant and Mars in Aquarius.  It will activate my Grand Air Trine, so I will probably be all over the place in terms of communication. The recent new moon in Gemini was exactly conjunct my natal moon in the 8th house and I am definitely experiencing changes in my financial situation.

Venus in Gemini is also very busy these days. It is squaring the north and south nodes of the moon.  The south node represents our past while the north node symbolizes our future, our soul’s true purpose. With Venus squaring the nodes, our relationships, values and resources can feel the pressure as we become more aware that decisions need to be made to move forward and release some karmic baggage that is holding us back and contributing to feelings of being stuck.  On June 12th, Venus forms an easygoing sextile aspect with Uranus in 23 degrees of Aries, so don’t rule out some kind of breakthrough occurring in either your financial situation or relationships.

The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off and can also be described as a spa for the soul to boot!   Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

A Frenetic New Moon in Gemini Aided and Abetted by Mutable Grand Cross

If you feel like you are being pulled in at least four different directions these days, it’s not your imagination and you are not alone.  We have a new moon in 14 degrees of Gemini on June 4, 2016 that is also part of a Mutable Grand Cross. A major theme of a mutable grand cross is a lack of focus.  The literal definition of frenetic is frenzied and frantic, and I would wager that most people these days are feeling this type of energy. The number of mutable planets interacting at this time can feel like we are being swept around and uprooted like a tornado is upon us.

The Sun, Moon and Venus are conjunct in Gemini, which is pretty sweet energy for developing loving thoughts and transitioning from the mind to the heart in a heart-centered way. So we have the potential to shift from thoughts and obsessions from the past (don’t count out that retrograde Mars in Scorpio which is opposing Mercury in Taurus and energizing us) to enter into a higher consciousness. There is definitely hope for gaining a new perspective.

But the Sun, Moon and Venus in Gemini are forming a mutable grand cross with Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces and Saturn in Sagittarius. We also have Chiron in Pisces and the north node in Virgo adding to the mutable mash. Jupiter, which rules expansion, is duking it out with a square to Saturn in Sagittarius. This can manifest as extreme vacillation between optimism and pessimism as we attempt to seek a balance between Jupiter’s love of risk-taking and Saturn’s natural caution. Then we have Saturn in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces making us wonder what is real and what isn’t.  This is a definite challenge to our sense of reality as we run the gamut from feeling Neptune’s heady inspiration one minute to Saturn’s depression and disillusionment the next minute.  Neptune in Pisces also opposes Jupiter in Virgo, which can leave us feeling very mystical and spacey while also being inspired to be of spiritual service.

Let’s take a look at the key players in this grand mutable cross and their functions.  Neptune in Pisces can confuse, distort or inspire us.  Addictions could run rampant with this kind of energy. Saturn in Sagittarius is all about revealing the truth and outworn patterns while maintaining a vestige of responsibility. But it also holds the potential for problems with authority figures. Jupiter in Virgo helps us to feel blessed enough to fix our problems if we aren’t disillusioned by its opposition to Neptune in Pisces or depressed by its square to Saturn in Sagittarius.  And the sun, moon and Venus in Gemini are ripe for problems with love and money with all of the choices that such mutable energy represents.

This new moon in Gemini and the mutable grand cross are harbingers of major changes coming down the pike. If you have planets or points anywhere between 11-16 degrees of the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, your life is being reconfigured.  Change is unavoidable, so your best bet is to forgive, release the past and move on.  This new moon especially emphasizes mental faculty and thinking processes. We need to be aware and mindful of our thinking and release our negativity  Meditation can be an invaluable tool in finding a center point of stillness so that we can mentally reboot and embrace a more expansive reality.  I know that the buzz words for describing mutable astrology signs are “go with the flow”, but this is one time when that advice needs to be followed.  Most of us find it extremely difficult to let go of our need to control, but this is prime time for adopting that philosophy if we intend to survive and prosper.

A new moon in Gemini is so heavily invested in mental energy that we would be doing it a disservice and not reaping its benefits by staying quiet and hiding out.  Yes, I realize, especially as a private, reserved Scorpio the need for introspection, but this new moon is literally demanding that we engage and interact with others.  Gemini likes to talk and share its opinions, so get out there and find your tribe.  You might be surprised by what you learn from others.

My astrology teacher once described Gemini as the “most democratic of all the air signs” and that saying has always stuck with me.  I know that she meant that they could relate to and learn from anyone. Of course, she had a Gemini moon and so do I.  As a matter of fact, this new moon is exactly conjunct my moon in the 8th house, which means that I am quite familiar with the issue of finances, authority, inspiration, reality checks and transformation. I am hoping to achieve spiritual growth and a more expansive reality a result of this new moon and I know that you can too.
