Healing the Shadow with New Moon in Scorpio

The sabian symbol for the upcoming new moon in 8 degrees of Scorpio on October 30, 2016 is “A calm lake bathed in moonlight.  A quiet openness to higher inspiration.”

The sabian symbols were produced in 1925 by clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler with the help of astrologer Marc Edmund Jones in Balboa Park in San Diego, California.  I usually don’t pay much attention to sabian symbols, but reading about this one resonated for me big time.

This new moon in Scorpio holds enormous potential for personal power, soul searching, purging toxins, and finding the courage to face our shadow so that we can transform stagnation into growth.  Obviously it is a deeply spiritual new moon linked to transformation (it’s in Scorpio, remember) and letting go of the old patterns that no longer serve our highest good.  Mercury and Neptune are major players in this new moon.  Mercury in Scorpio is conjunct both the sun and moon and Neptune in Pisces forms a sweet trine, enhancing and emphasizing the capacity for understanding, empathy and forgiveness.  Neptune’s trine to the sun and moon also holds the potential for miracles, healing and mysticism.

While this new moon sounds very promising with all of these lovely positive aspects the road leading up to it was a bit rocky.  The moon in Libra from October 27-29 was not so nice and people pleasing; it wreaked its fair share of turmoil and damage in relationships.  That Libra moon squared Pluto in Capricorn on October 28th, triggering some power struggles. On the following day, still under the auspices of the Libra moon, Mars in 21 degrees of Capricorn squares Uranus in 21 degrees of Aries, opening the floodgates for bizarre occurrences to occur that will pose a serious challenge to relationships, especially with that Libra moon squaring Mars in Capricorn.

Despite the fact that Saturn and Neptune are no longer forming an exact square (they are now 5 degrees apart), we are still feeling their influence of questioning clarity, honesty and authenticity.  And it didn’t help when that Libra moon formed an irritating, challenging inconjunct or quincunx to Neptune in Pisces on October 28th.  More adjustments and challenges to what is real, especially in relationships.

But on October 30, 2016 we should be focusing on the power and strength of that new moon in Scorpio.  It is always a good idea to set new intentions on a new moon, and with a new moon in the deeply spiritual sign of Scorpio, our focus should be on creating a daily anchor for our spirituality.  Meditation, self-healing or affirmations are fine examples of the types of spiritual anchors we can incorporate into our daily lives. I like to meditate and do a little Reiki on myself each day, but the options are infinite.
I also have a vested interest, so to speak, in this new moon because it is aspecting my chart very intensely.  It conjuncts my Saturn in Scorpio in my 1st house, sextiles my north node in Capricorn in the 3rd house and trines my south node in Cancer in my 9th house.  I feel like I am literally being propelled to let go of the past (south node in Cancer) while establishing new structure in my life while facing my shadow side and overcoming fears and limitations (Saturn in Scorpio) while pressing forward with my life purpose by communicating more responsibly with my tribe (north node in Capricorn in the 3rd house).

Recently I undertook an intensive life purpose coaching training program and became certified as a Life Purpose Coach.  It was an intense, eye-opening experience that changed my life as it caused me to reflect on the story of my life.  But I left it with feelings of hope and light for the future that I want to share with others.  To that end, I am now offering Life Purpose Coaching to my menu of services.  You can read more about it at:

As an astrologer, I have decided to include an interpretation of the north node by sign and house placement as part of my coaching program.  After all, the north node does represent the soul’s purpose in life, so why not use it as a tool?  If you are feeling stuck and need some help in getting from Point A to Point B in your quest for making positive changes in your life, please email me at lindasim54@gmail.com to schedule a complementary telephone consultation to discover if you are a good fit for this program.  I look forward to hearing from you.

If you are seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. An astrological reading can provide valuable insight and tools.  If you are not quite ready for a full blown natal interpretation or a solar return forecast, I also offer one question astrological readings and composite couple readings that offer insight into the purpose of a relationship. And I offer shorter transit readings for three and six months which might help you navigate the rest of 2016 a little easier. If you purchase a three or six month transit reading, I will even look at how September’s eclipses affected you! You can learn more about my menu of astrological services, including the opportunity to provide a donation in the amount of your choice to demonstrate your support for my blog and daily astrological insights on Twitter at:

A contribution in any amount is deeply appreciated as gratitude is a daily part of my spiritual practice.

The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am still channeling that Virgo north node energy by offering my Reiki services.  If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off and can also be described as a spa for the soul to boot!   Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

For more information on my Reiki services, please see this page on my site:

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205. Additionally, I see clients at my home in Newton, Massachusetts and am generally available on weekends and evenings for your convenience.

Scorpio - The Season of Transformation and Empowerment

Brace yourself, folks.  We are about to enter my personal favorite time of year, the Scorpio season, which is truly a time of transformation and empowerment.  In addition to the astrological sign for Scorpio, I have included the Death card from the Celestial Tarot Deck in this post because it represents the Scorpio energy of rebirth. This card may be called Death, but by no means is it death on a physical level.  It has much more to do with a death of the old way of life and a rebirth into a new consciousness for the soul.  Scorpio loves crisis and is drawn to it like a moth to a flame because it views crisis as an opportunity for growth.  Scorpio is not a sign for the faint of heart and is inclined to probe the depths.  We have a month of intensity in store for us.

The Sun enters Scorpio on October 22, 2016, but the build-up to this energy began on October 19, 2016 when Mars and Pluto formed a conjunction in 15 degrees of Capricorn.  Mars and Pluto are the co-rulers of Scorpio, so this was no minor aspect to be taken lightly.  On that day I tweeted:

“Powerful Mars/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn today blends aggression with ambition to achieve goals.  Slight risk of bullying.”

The Mars/Pluto conjunction is all about taking charge, with Mars representing personal energy and courage while Pluto pertains to power, a higher will and a new chapter in soul growth.  I also find it supremely ironic that the third and last Presidential debate in the United States occurred on October 19th, fully demonstrating the energies of Mars and Pluto in action.

What else can we expect when the Sun is in the sign of Scorpio?  Scorpio is all about depth, intimacy and extremes of feeling.  As a Scorpio, I can personally attest to the fact that Scorpios tend to either love or hate; they have a hard time finding the middle ground due to their intense, passionate, strong-willed nature.  Superficiality and mediocrity just don’t cut it when the Sun is in Scorpio.  Prepare for a time of deep soul searching.  Jealousy, vindictiveness and manipulation could rear their ugly heads during the sun’s transit through Scorpio until November 21, 2016. But there is enormous potential for healing and transformation to occur and for us to literally become the most evolved symbol of Scorpio, the Phoenix, who rises from the ashes.  The Sun in Scorpio is a time of deep soul growth and regeneration.  It can also be an opportunity to reclaim some of the power that we have given away.  While Scorpio is indeed a very powerful sign, many Scorpios deal with the issue of giving their power way and when the Sun is in Scorpio, they have a green light to reclaim some of that power.

While Venus may now be playing happily in the more light-hearted sign of Sagittarius (it left Scorpio on October 18th), Mercury is about to enter Scorpio on October 24, 2016, where it resides until November 12, 2016.  Mercury in Scorpio is like a human surveillance camera because it doesn’t miss a trick with their observation skills and isn’t afraid to convey their perceptions. Strategy will be highlighted when Mercury is in Scorpio, which is another example of reclaiming power. Mercury will meet up with and form a conjunction to the Sun in 3 degrees of Scorpio on October 27, 2016.  Watch for communication to be very focused and laser sharp on that day, with a tendency towards the sarcasm that Scorpio is renowned for.  Beware the Scorpio stinger on October 27th and don’t be surprised if there is a spike in obsessive and compulsive behaviors on that day as well.

The season of Scorpio is a perfect time to embark on your own personal journey of transformation and empowerment. Astrology and tarot are valuable tools on the path of spiritual growth. Don’t waste the opportunity for healing and transformation that Scorpio season provides.

Uranus Calls the Shots on Unpredictable Full Moon in Aries

Super Full Moon Alert!  The full moon in 23 degrees of Aries which occurs on October 16, 2016 or October 15, 2016 if you live on the west coast of the United States, is going to be one wild ride.  It reminds me of the famous line Bette Davis uttered in the movie All About Eve: “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.” And Bette Davis was an Aries, to boot, born on April 5, 1908!

The buildup to this super full moon, which is defined as when the moon is within 90% of its closest approach to the earth (aka perigee) began on October 13, 2016 when Mercury in Libra squared Mars in Capricorn, prompting me to tweet:

“Tempers could definitely flare today as Mercury in Libra squares Mars in Capricorn. The #FullMoon craziness is just starting.”

The moon entered Aries on October 14th and on October 15th the sun opposed Uranus in Aries fueling the fire for Uranus to become even more disruptive. I loved what astrologer Henry Seltzer said about this full moon on his latest Astrograph post:

“Everyone acknowledges that this degree of dysfunction cannot go on much longer.  Something has got to give.”

This full moon in Aries is all about Me (Aries moon) vs. We (Libra sun) and it is quite clear that Me wants to come out on top!  The Aries full moon conjuncts Uranus in 22 degrees of Aries, which is a strong indicator that it will be electrifying, awakening and sudden, disruptive changes can and will occur.  It can manifest on a personal level in our relationships, but don’t be surprised if you also hear about even more shocking events in the world.  More craziness will be exposed in a big, explosive way, accompanied by a major sense of urgency that could lead to some pretty impulsive actions.  It will be an extremely emotional full moon, especially for anyone who has planets or points (ascendant, midheaven or nodes) around 23 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.  It is hitting close to home for me because this full moon opposes my Neptune in the 1st house, squares my Cancer midheaven, and trines my Pluto in Leo in the 11th house.  If you are wondering how it will impact you, this is the perfect time for you to get an astrological reading with me!

A contribution in any amount is deeply appreciated as gratitude is a daily part of my spiritual practice.

Mars and Pluto are not exactly innocent bystanders in this full moon scenario, either.  Mars is in Capricorn, where it is very strong, but it is also the ruling planet of Aries.  On the full moon Mars in Capricorn trines the north node in Virgo and sextiles the south node in Pisces.  This is actually a good thing (thank heaven for small favors) because it is activating progress towards the future if we are flexible and adaptable.  The nodes are in mutable signs, remember?  We will definitely be feeling the pressure for a new start and Mars in Capricorn will imbue us with focus, organization and productivity to take action.  Full moons are times of completion, closure and revelations. Especially with Uranus in Aries conjunct the full moon, we are literally shaking free from the past and enduring some chaos in the process.

How does Pluto get involved?  On October 15th, Mercury in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn.  Angry, assertive words can be used to manipulate with this aspect.  There will be conflict galore.  Mars in Capricorn is also moving towards an exact conjunction with Pluto on October 19, 2016.  Guess what is happening on that day?  Another presidential debate! Pluto increases its assertiveness and aggressiveness when it is aspected by Mars, so there will most assuredly be more sudden surprises on the political front.

Speaking of the political front in the United States, I couldn’t resist looking at the charts of the two main candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to see how they will fare with this full moon.  Donald Trump has his natal Saturn in 23 degrees of Cancer in his 11th house of friends, groups and aspirations.  The 11th house is ruled by Uranus. The full moon in 23 degrees of Aries falls in his 8th house of sex, death, transformation and joint finances.  It forms an exact square to his Saturn, so he may on some level feel restricted and unsupported. Taxes are also associated with the 8th house.  Interestingly enough, Donald Trump has a challenging moon/Saturn aspect in his natal chart- an inconjunct between Saturn in Cancer and his moon in 21 degrees of Sagittarius.  This aspect can contribute to a difficult relationship with one’s mother or women in general.  In light of recent media events, this comes as no surprise.

The full moon in 23 degrees of Aries falls in Hillary Clinton’s 11th house, the Uranian ruled house and forms challenging aspects to her nodes.  It semi-sextiles her north node in 23 degrees of Taurus and inconjuncts her south node in 23 degrees of Scorpio.  She may very well find herself having to make some kind of adjustments in her campaign.   Both candidates are facing some challenging aspects from this full moon and Uranus is definitely a key player in it.  The effects of the full moon will probably spill into the debate on October 19th when Mars catches up with Pluto in Capricorn.

The theme of something has to give, especially in relationships or finances, is further reinforced by the full moon forming an inconjunct to Venus in Scorpio.  The inconjunct can be a distracting influence that requires some form of adjustment in order to resolve the conflict it generates.  This past week has been chock full of inconjuncts, starting on October 12th with Venus in Scorpio inconjunct Uranus in Aries.  There is no escape from the Uranus in Aries influence, so hang on for the wild ride!

Mercury Enters Libra to Help Restore Balance in Communications and Relationships

Mercury has FINALLY exited the shadow period of the recent Mercury retrograde and entered the sign of Libra. Mercury was in Virgo from July 30, 2016 until October 7, 2016 due to the most recent Mercury retrograde of 2016.  While Mercury in Virgo may have been fine for analyzing and focusing on the details, it has a loner, reclusive type vibe and can be a little heavy at times.

Mercury in Libra has a much more social vibe and it can be much easier to see alternative solutions.  It also favors romance and the arts. Don’t be surprised if your social calendar becomes jam-packed between October 7th through November 12th.  It can restore balance in communications because it is inherently a peacemaking sign.  Disputes can be resolved more easily when Mercury is in Libra due to its rational, diplomatic nature that is ruled by fairness. It is an auspicious time for partnerships and signing contracts.  Signing contracts was pretty much verboten during Mercury retrograde until it was completely out of the shadow. Mercury in Libra loves to collaborate and share ideas.  On many levels, Mercury in Libra is the voice of reason.

But Mercury in Libra will still face some challenges. It really needs to be on top of its game and start the ground running on its first day when the Sun in 14 degrees of Libra squares off with Pluto in 14 degrees of Capricorn.  That’s right, folks, on October 7th, the Sun squares Pluto.  I have this aspect natally (Scorpio sun square Pluto in Leo), so I am all too aware of how this aspect can play out.  Hidden issues can emerge and power struggles can manifest.  And with sun in Libra, don’t be surprised if relationships get a little intense with this aspect. Overinflated egos can collide, but hopefully with the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter in Libra, the voice of reason will prevail in any conflicts and peace will be restored in relationships.  All of that Libra energy is conducive to smoking the peace pipe and reaching a level of balance in relationships.

Another astrological aspect on October 7th is Saturn in 12 degrees of Sagittarius squaring the north node in Virgo and south node in Pisces. This challenging aspect forces us, as only Saturn, the Great Taskmaster can, to take some personal responsibility for our roles as victim/perpetrator or martyr/rescuer in relationships.  Saturn does not let us forget that we need to be responsible and own our issues. So Mercury in Libra can play a major role on that day in helping us remove blockages to fulfillment in our relationships.

We really get some good news and a chance to break out in a happy dance on October 10, 2016 when Mercury in 6 degrees of Libra conjuncts Jupiter in 6 degrees of Libra. This is a perfect opportunity to find our voice and say what needs to be said without hurting others. It reminds me of the expression: “Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean.”  Mercury in Libra is still transiting my 12th house and will be squaring my north node in Capricorn in my 3rd house and south node in Cancer in my 9th house on that day, which is a pretty clear indicator that I will have my own communication issues to address.  But I will have the Libra sun in my 1st house by October 10th and Mercury will enter my 1st house on October 17th.  Jupiter in Libra joins the party on December 1, 2016, which is another cause for celebration.

We have our annual Sun/Uranus opposition coming up on October 15th and a powerful full moon in Aries on October 16th, so make the most of this Mercury in Libra energy until then.  More on those aspects in next week’s post.
