An Intense and Potent New Moon in Aries and the Sun Enters Taurus

This is probably the most action-packed week astrologically of 2026 so far.  And that is saying  a lot, given how this year has been playing out.  On April 17, we have a New Moon in 27 degrees of Aries.  Okay, the Sun and Moon meet up every year in Aries, but this year we also have Mars in Aries, Mercury in Aries, Saturn in Aries, Neptune in Aries, Chiron in Aries and Eris in Aries.  That is eight (8) planets in the cardinal fire sign.  This is a tremendous amount of fire and there is an incredibly strong urge to take action.

Aries is the cardinal fire sign that loves to initiate the spark of creating something new and is described as "I am", our sense of self-identity, courage, passion, enthusiasm and adventure.  It is ruled by Mars, which is also in Aries, giving it an extra shot of courage.  This New Moon in Aries is also conjunct Chiron in 26 degrees of Aries and Eris in 25 degrees of Aries.  The New Moon conjunct Chiron is calling upon us to heal our old wounds pertaining to our self-identity and create something new as we rewrite our life story.

I confess that I am not all that familiar with Eris, but it is playing too big a role in this New Moon to ignore.  Eris is a planet that was discovered in 2006 and it was named after the Greek goddess of chaos and discord.  Eris is also known as the "bitch who wasn't invited to a wedding" but showed up anyway and wreaked havoc.  The bottom line is that Eris also represents disruptive truth.  Eris travels very slowly; it has been in Aries since 1923 and will remain in Aries until 2044.  I recently had the pleasure of watching an NCGR webinar on Eris with Henry Seltzer, who has also written a book called The Tenth Planet: Revelations from the Astrological Eris and I highly recommend this book.  So everyone alive today has Eris in Aries, but after watching this webinar, I realized that my natal Eris in Aries squares my North Node in Capricorn and South Node in Cancer.  This means that I need to learn how to accept disruptions and unexpected events in my life as opportunities for growth and self-discovery by cultivating resilience and grace.  Intense transformation is a key theme with this placement.  I have certainly had my fair share of unexpected events and disruptions, but my acceptance of them is still a work in progress.  It's easier said than done!

With the New Moon in Aries conjunct Eris, we can pretty much count on there being some more disruption in our world to inspire action and plant the seeds for our future.  We really need to take some decisive action even if we don't know where things are going. All I can tell you is to take some action and trust your gut instincts.  This is what Aries energy is all about.  If you don't take action, you can feel restless or anxious. And you don't have to do everything on April 17.  We all have a window of opportunity between the New Moon in Aries and the Full Moon in 11 degrees of Scorpio on May 1. For me personally, this New Moon in Aries, as well as Chiron and Eris, are opposing my Neptune and Juno in Libra in my 1st house, squaring my Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer in the 10th house and squaring my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4th house. There is nothing like having your natal cardinal T-square activated to light a fire under you!  Remember, it's okay to take baby steps.  Just do something...

Uranus is in 29 degrees of Taurus on the New Moon, which adds to theme of disruption as it shakes us out of our comfort zone of stagnancy.  It encourages us to take a leap of faith.

Mercury, Mars and Saturn are all going to be conjunct in 7-8 degrees of  Aries on April 19 and 20.  We will be receiving clarity on our plan of action and the seeds that we planted on the New Moon.  Mars is conjunct Saturn in 7 degrees of Aries on April 19.  This will serve as a reality check and require a commitment accompanied by discipline aligned to identity.  Mercury and Saturn are conjunct in 7 degrees of Aries on April 20, which places a strong emphasis on focus and grounding our ideas. Mercury conjunct Mars wants us to take action on our ideas.

The Sun moves into Taurus on April 19.  When the Sun is in Taurus, we are more grounded, methodical, practical, stable and into the sensual pleasures in life. But the shadow side of the Sun in Taurus is a tendency to be stubborn and possessive, because let's face it, Taurus is fixed earth.

Venus and Uranus meet up for one last time in 29 degrees of Taurus on April 23. This is the anaretic degree, so it is highly likely that we will experience some more shake-ups in relationships and finances that feel fated. We might feel inspired to take a leap of faith guided by our hearts.  Uranus moves into Gemini on April 25 for the next seven years and I will cover that more in next week's post.  In the meantime, enjoy this blast of fire energy and plant those seeds for a new chapter in your life.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. Mars Enters Leo and the Sun Enters Taurus with Squares to Both Mars and Pluto

 

The April angst continues and shows no sign of abating.  On April 18, Mars enters Leo until June 17, 2025.  Mars was previously in Leo back in November 2024, stationed retrograde in 6 degrees of Leo on December 6, 2024 and moved back into Cancer on January 6, 2025.  So basically we have spent most of 2025 with Mars in Cancer, a sign where it is not particularly happy or comfortable.  Defensiveness and passive aggressive behavior are associated with Mars in Cancer.

Mars is much happier in Leo but it is not as cooperative as it can be highly competitive. When Mars is in the fixed fire sign of Leo, there is a strong urge for recognition.  Anger can be triggered by a perceived lack of respect because the ego is highly sensitive during this time. Mars in Leo is also associated with being stubborn, since it is a fixed sign, but there is lots of enthusiasm and energy to accomplish things.  So we will be dealing with a much more direct expression of our energy, motivation and passion.

The Sun moves into Taurus on April 19 as our focus shifts to being more sensual, receptive, reliable and practical.  Determination and security needs become priorities for us within the next month.  It's a time to enjoy the finer things in life. Taurus is ruled by Venus, so pleasure is paramount.  Just don't forget that the shadow side of the Sun in Taurus is a tendency to be stubborn (it is fixed earth, after all) and possessive.

The Sun in Taurus wastes no time getting into the thick of things with planetary action.  On April 20, Easter Sunday and the end of Passover, the Sun will be squaring Mars in 0 degrees of Leo.  This could play out as tests of character from authority figures.  We can be irritable, impulsive and impatient.  We might be forced to defend our goals and desires.  The Sun squaring Mars can also lead to a build-up of anger, resentment or sexual frustration.  The most constructive way to channel this energy is to exercise or perhaps do some spring cleaning.

On April 23, the Sun in Taurus is squaring Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius.  This is another tough aspect which can lead to a need for power which can be accompanied by a tendency to be more assertive and controlling.  Watch out for power struggles, compulsive behavior in relationships and fears of losing control.  But the Sun square Pluto has the potential to bring rebirth if we are willing to let go.

I have my Sun in Scorpio squaring Mars in Aquarius and Pluto in Leo, so I am all too familiar with the volatile nature of these aspects.  I urge you not to underestimate their energy in terms of the potential for acting out and transformation.  And as a Scorpio, I am aware of the fact that transformation and rebirth tend to be somewhat uncomfortable.  So bear with this energy...

The last major aspect that I would like to discuss is the conjunction between Venus and Saturn in 27 degrees of Pisces occurring on April 24.  This aspect has occurred two other times: on April 7 in 25 degrees of Pisces when Venus was retrograde and on January 18, 2025 in 16 degrees of Pisces when both planets were direct.  The third hit of an aspect can quite literally be the charm when it actually manifests for us.  What is the theme of Venus conjunct Saturn? It can provide a major reality check in love and finances.  But there can be a sense of isolation, distance and difficulty in expressing feelings. If a romance does happen it can be quite karmic because commitment is associated with Saturn.  The Venus-Saturn conjunction in Pisces falls in my 6th house and is exactly trining my natal retrograde Uranus in Cancer in my 10th house, so I think that the adage the third time is the charm will ring true for me.  But with Uranus, you never how it will play out...

Massive Changes Underway this Week as the Sun Enters Taurus, Jupiter and Uranus are Conjunct in Taurus, A Full Moon in Scorpio and Mercury Goes Direct

 

This week has plenty of planetary action including the Sun's ingress into Taurus, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus, a Full Moon in Scorpio and Mercury going direct on April 25.  We have come through eclipse season and Pluto entering Aquarius in January, but this week could top the charts quite literally.  There is a strong theme of shedding and releasing prevalent in the second half of April.

On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries and enters the fixed earth sign of Taurus.  I think that I can safely surmise that most of us are exhausted by now with Aries season. That Solar Eclipse in Aries on April 8 is still in effect for many of us. We still have Mercury, Venus, Chiron and the North Node in Aries, but at least the Sun is leaving.  What can we expect when the Sun is in Taurus?  Well, it is ruled by Venus, which loves harmony, sensuality and enjoys the finer things in life.  We can't forget that Aries is ruled by Mars, which is a very different vibe than peace-loving Venus. When the Sun is in Taurus, we tend to be more receptive, grounded and methodical. Of course, the shadow side of Taurus is a tendency to be more stubborn (aka the Bull) and possessive.

Mars in Pisces is forming supportive sextiles to Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus on April 19.  This is setting the stage for the main attraction on April 20 when Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct in 21 degrees of Taurus. This is a cosmic green light for positive change in new directions.  It provides energy and motivation to move forward.

Jupiter is conjunct Uranus every 13 or 14 years and denotes a period of breakdowns or breakthroughs.  Breaking free is the mantra with this aspect. It starts a whole new cycle of change that will last for the next 14 years. The last time Jupiter and Uranus were conjunct was in June 2010 in 0 degrees of Aries and again in September 2010 and January 2011 in the late degrees of Pisces.  Jupiter conjunct Uranus can feel somewhat disruptive but it is ultimately productive. There will be an emphasis on survival and self-reliance with the conjunction occurring in Taurus.  There is also the likelihood of more earthquakes or natural disasters with it falling in the earth sign of Taurus.  The last time we had a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus was in May 1941 during World War 2.  This conjunction is also trining the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in 22 degrees of Capricorn that happened on January 12, 2020 and ushered in the COVID era that featured themes of contraction, control and limitation.  Remember lockdowns and toilet paper shortages???  Perhaps we will feel like we are finally clearing the shadow of this era.  Astrologer Pam Gregory has described the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction as a "Thank the Lord" aspect of liberation and I couldn't agree more with her.  The tricky part is that you are thanking the Lord when it is over, not so much when it is happening.

Who is going to feel the effects of this aspect most acutely?  Anyone with planets in 19-23 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio will probably feel more shockwaves initially from this aspect.  The effects of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction will be felt for awhile, so don't think if nothing happens to you on this day, you have escaped it. Venus and Chiron are also conjunct in Aries on this day, which is an incentive to break up old patterns in relationships, such as people-pleasing.

The Sun in Taurus is squaring Pluto in 2 degrees of Aquarius on April 21.  There is a strong theme with this aspect of letting go of attachments and control issues.  I have this aspect natally, so trust me when I speak about control and power being major issues.  In a way, this aspect is setting the stage the Full Moon in 4 degrees of Scorpio on April 23.

The Full Moon in 4 degrees of Scorpio on April 23 is also squaring Scorpio's ruling planet, Pluto in Aquarius.  Pluto is actually forming a T-square to the Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio, so this Full Moon will be intense, I kid you not. But it can also be quite empowering.  Hold that thought... The themes of power, truth, control, commitment and secrets coming to light will prevail.  Some of these secrets could pertain to money with the Sun being in Taurus.  Safety and security issues could arise.  The shadow side of Scorpio entails revenge and grudge-holding but try to rise to the higher level of Scorpio which has integrity, loyalty and higher morality.  I urge everyone to try to be as spiritually compassionate as possible because Scorpio's shadow side can be pretty destructive.  If you have any planets in 0-4 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, you will probably be dealing with issues of empowerment, control and manipulation.

The week ends on a very promising note on April 25 when Mercury stations direct in 16 degrees of Aries.  Mercury has been retrograde since April 1, which was not exactly the nicest April Fool's joke.  It was in Aries during the whole retrograde, having stationed retrograde in 27 degrees of Aries and I am sure that this added to the impatience most of us experienced.  We finally get to see a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to communication and transportation snafus.  Just remember that Mercury officially clears its retrograde shadow on May 13 and we should all be fine.

Eclipse Season is Here with a Powerful Solar Eclipse in Aries that Squares Pluto and the Sun Enters Taurus

Eclipse Season is officially here, with the first eclipse of 2023 coming on April 20, 2023 in the form of a Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Aries.  That's right, folks, the second New Moon in Aries of 2023.  Since eclipses run in pairs, the next one happens on May 5, 2023 with a Lunar Eclipse in 14 degrees of Scorpio.

But I am sure that many of you have been feeling the effects of this upcoming eclipse already. It is a well-known fact that Solar Eclipses can be felt up to three months before and as long as one year afterwards.  I just don't want anyone out there to think that if nothing significant happens to you on April 20 that you are in the clear in terms of avoiding massive change in your life.  Eclipses are game-changers and they have a wide berth with their time frame.

On April 14, we are getting a major reality check when Venus in Gemini exactly squares Saturn in 4 degrees of Pisces.  Venus and Saturn in a challenging aspect can be a bit of a downer when it comes to love and finances.  It can also make us feel pessimistic and depressed.  I am just warning you that it does not exactly start off the weekend on a high note and could prompt us to make some serious decisions.  The best way to cope with this energy is try to see the long-term effects of any decisions that you do make.  The bright side is that at least these two planets are in mutable signs so that we are more likely to be able to roll with the punches and adapt more easily if course corrections wind up being necessary.

So let's get down to the details of the Solar Eclipse.  It is in 29 degrees of Aries, which is a cardinal sign and cardinal signs love to initiate.  We have a lot of cardinal energy in this eclipse chart: in addition to the Sun and Moon in Aries, we have Chiron in Aries and Mars in Cancer. This is also a North Node Solar Eclipse, meaning that it is near the North Node in 4 degrees of Taurus.  North Node eclipses are very future-oriented, but in order for the future to manifest, we have to be prepared for endings to occur.  It is a crucial fact that this eclipse falls in 29 degrees of Aries, because 29 degrees is considered the anaretic degree and this tends to represent an end of a cycle.  The ruler of Aries is Mars and Mars in Cancer is still out of bound until May 4, 2023.  This simply means that this eclipse can bring volatile upheavals and lots of aggression, anger and dynamic energy will prevail.  It is definitely an out-of-control vibe. We are talking wild card energy that can come off as being very Uranian.  As a matter of fact, Mercury in 15 degrees of Taurus is conjunct Uranus in 17 degrees of Taurus on the day of the eclipse, so there could be some shocking news involving the financial market.  The saving grace feature of this eclipse is the fact that Aries is a very self-sufficient sign that values individuality, so we should have the courage to implement whatever changes we need to improve our life.

The Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Aries also squares Pluto in 0 degrees of Aquarius.  This will ramp up the level of emotional intensity and the amount of impulsivity.  A Solar Eclipse squaring Pluto denotes endings and beginnings as the old world collapses.  It can increase our need to be in control and ego conflicts with authority figures can erupt.  The most constructive way to deal with this energy is to breathe, let go of what isn't working for you and let the rebirth happen.  I don't think that anyone out there can honestly say that everything in their life is immune to the winds of change.

We also need to be mindful of the fact that Mars in 13 degrees of Cancer is squaring Chiron in 16 degrees of Aries on April 20.  It can make us angry about health issues, but more importantly, if you are having any troubling symptoms, I urge you as a healer and astrologer to get them checked out now.  I know that Mars is still out of bound, but it should still serve to motivate us to take better care of our health when it is squaring Chiron in Aries. It doesn't matter if the issues are physical, mental or emotional, they need to be tended to.

The Moon moves into Taurus at 12:30 a.m. on April 20, a mere 17 minutes after the Solar Eclipse.  Then the Sun enters Taurus at 4:14 a.m. and squares Pluto in Aquarius at 12:27 p.m.  The Sun squaring Pluto will increase our need to be in charge and could also trigger deeply buried psychological issues involving fears of death or loss of control.  Pluto is the planet that I like to refer to as the Roto-Rooter because it brings up the things we need to purge. Rebirth ain't always pretty or comfortable.  I have a natal Sun-Pluto square involving my Sun in Scorpio and Pluto in Leo, so I am all too familiar with this energy.

When the Sun is in Taurus, the pace is a little slower because it is fixed earth.  This can be experienced as somewhat of a relief after the whirlwind transit of the Sun in Aries. We will be more focused on security needs and we will also be more practical, determined and sensual.  Taurus is ruled by Venus and it does enjoy its creature comforts.  The shadow side of the Sun in Taurus is that it can be possessive and bullheaded.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Power-Packed Full Moon in Libra and the Sun Enters Taurus

 

I realize that most of us are still awash in the emotional pull of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces of April 12, but we have even more intensity in store for us on April 16 with the Full Moon in 26 degrees of Libra.  I think it is a pretty fair statement that emotions and tears were flowing on that conjunction, when I tweeted:

The Full Moon in 26 degrees of Libra is also inconjunct Jupiter and Neptune in 24 degrees of Pisces, so there is an added emphasis on making adjustments to achieve some emotional balance.  Libra is a sign with themes of seeking balance and is all about relationships.  Full Moons inherently have themes of closure and completion, so some relationships just might end.  I think it's also prudent to warn anyone with planets in the late degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn that this will be an exceptionally intense Full Moon.

The Full Moon will also be trining Saturn in 23 degrees of Aquarius, which could actually cut us a break.  It will provide us with some stability by helping us tap into our maturity and wisdom to navigate these difficult times and make us more grounded.  But this does mean that the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are not exactly getting a free ride with this Full Moon because we are headed into eclipse season: the first one is a Solar Eclipse on April 30 in 10 degrees of Taurus and the second one is a Lunar Eclipse on May 16 in 25 degrees of Scorpio.

One of the reasons I am describing this as a power-packed Full Moon is the involvement of Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn.  There is a T-square on April 16 involving the Sun in Aries, Moon in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn.  Pluto is all about power, transformation and emotional intensity.  Power struggles could emerge and secrets could come to light about abuses of power.  I don't think that it is a coincidence that the war in Ukraine started during the week of the Pluto Return of the United States. It has also been pointed out by other astrologers that in 2022 every Full Moon until July will be engaged with Pluto.  On April 18, the Sun in Aries will be exactly squaring Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn, which will see us digging deep for transformation.

One of the saving graces of the Full Moon is the conjunction between Mercury in 11 degrees of Taurus with Uranus in 13 degrees of Taurus.  Sudden insights, ideas and breakthroughs could surface.  Mercury and Uranus will be exactly conjunct in 13 degrees of Taurus on April 18, so these themes prevail for a few days.

As usual, I am right in the thick of the action of this Full Moon.  It is conjunct my Juno and Neptune in Libra in my 1st house and it squares my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4th house, as well as my Midheaven, Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer.  Yep, I have a cardinal T-square that is being set off.  And as a Scorpio, I also have the Mercury-Uranus conjunction in Taurus opposing my Pallas and Saturn in Scorpio in my 1st house and squaring my Mars in Aquarius in my 4th house.

We do get a little astrological relief on April 19 when the Sun moves into the Venus-ruled sign of Taurus.  It is time to slow down, get grounded and enjoy the finer things in life as the pleasure principle prevails.  This is a huge change from the impulsive cardinal fire energy of Aries.  We will be focused on material growth and playing it safe. By all means, get outside and enjoy the earth as the weather will undoubtedly be improving.  But we will have the tenacity to pursue our goals because Taurus is fixed earth.  Just watch out for the shadow side of  Taurus, which can involve being overly stubborn and possessive.  It should be a calmer and more peaceful transit.
