An Intense and Potent New Moon in Aries and the Sun Enters Taurus

This is probably the most action-packed week astrologically of 2026 so far.  And that is saying  a lot, given how this year has been playing out.  On April 17, we have a New Moon in 27 degrees of Aries.  Okay, the Sun and Moon meet up every year in Aries, but this year we also have Mars in Aries, Mercury in Aries, Saturn in Aries, Neptune in Aries, Chiron in Aries and Eris in Aries.  That is eight (8) planets in the cardinal fire sign.  This is a tremendous amount of fire and there is an incredibly strong urge to take action.

Aries is the cardinal fire sign that loves to initiate the spark of creating something new and is described as "I am", our sense of self-identity, courage, passion, enthusiasm and adventure.  It is ruled by Mars, which is also in Aries, giving it an extra shot of courage.  This New Moon in Aries is also conjunct Chiron in 26 degrees of Aries and Eris in 25 degrees of Aries.  The New Moon conjunct Chiron is calling upon us to heal our old wounds pertaining to our self-identity and create something new as we rewrite our life story.

I confess that I am not all that familiar with Eris, but it is playing too big a role in this New Moon to ignore.  Eris is a planet that was discovered in 2006 and it was named after the Greek goddess of chaos and discord.  Eris is also known as the "bitch who wasn't invited to a wedding" but showed up anyway and wreaked havoc.  The bottom line is that Eris also represents disruptive truth.  Eris travels very slowly; it has been in Aries since 1923 and will remain in Aries until 2044.  I recently had the pleasure of watching an NCGR webinar on Eris with Henry Seltzer, who has also written a book called The Tenth Planet: Revelations from the Astrological Eris and I highly recommend this book.  So everyone alive today has Eris in Aries, but after watching this webinar, I realized that my natal Eris in Aries squares my North Node in Capricorn and South Node in Cancer.  This means that I need to learn how to accept disruptions and unexpected events in my life as opportunities for growth and self-discovery by cultivating resilience and grace.  Intense transformation is a key theme with this placement.  I have certainly had my fair share of unexpected events and disruptions, but my acceptance of them is still a work in progress.  It's easier said than done!

With the New Moon in Aries conjunct Eris, we can pretty much count on there being some more disruption in our world to inspire action and plant the seeds for our future.  We really need to take some decisive action even if we don't know where things are going. All I can tell you is to take some action and trust your gut instincts.  This is what Aries energy is all about.  If you don't take action, you can feel restless or anxious. And you don't have to do everything on April 17.  We all have a window of opportunity between the New Moon in Aries and the Full Moon in 11 degrees of Scorpio on May 1. For me personally, this New Moon in Aries, as well as Chiron and Eris, are opposing my Neptune and Juno in Libra in my 1st house, squaring my Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer in the 10th house and squaring my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4th house. There is nothing like having your natal cardinal T-square activated to light a fire under you!  Remember, it's okay to take baby steps.  Just do something...

Uranus is in 29 degrees of Taurus on the New Moon, which adds to theme of disruption as it shakes us out of our comfort zone of stagnancy.  It encourages us to take a leap of faith.

Mercury, Mars and Saturn are all going to be conjunct in 7-8 degrees of  Aries on April 19 and 20.  We will be receiving clarity on our plan of action and the seeds that we planted on the New Moon.  Mars is conjunct Saturn in 7 degrees of Aries on April 19.  This will serve as a reality check and require a commitment accompanied by discipline aligned to identity.  Mercury and Saturn are conjunct in 7 degrees of Aries on April 20, which places a strong emphasis on focus and grounding our ideas. Mercury conjunct Mars wants us to take action on our ideas.

The Sun moves into Taurus on April 19.  When the Sun is in Taurus, we are more grounded, methodical, practical, stable and into the sensual pleasures in life. But the shadow side of the Sun in Taurus is a tendency to be stubborn and possessive, because let's face it, Taurus is fixed earth.

Venus and Uranus meet up for one last time in 29 degrees of Taurus on April 23. This is the anaretic degree, so it is highly likely that we will experience some more shake-ups in relationships and finances that feel fated. We might feel inspired to take a leap of faith guided by our hearts.  Uranus moves into Gemini on April 25 for the next seven years and I will cover that more in next week's post.  In the meantime, enjoy this blast of fire energy and plant those seeds for a new chapter in your life.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Really Big Week as Saturn Enters Aries, Mercury Moves into Gemini and a New Moon in Gemini

 

We have a really juicy and eventful week ahead of us to close out the month of May.  On May 24, the Sun in Gemini will be trining Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius, Mercury and Uranus will be conjunct in 27 degrees of Taurus and Saturn will enter Aries briefly until September 1 as a preview of its transit from February 13, 2026 through April 12, 2028.

Let's break down the action of this day.  When the Sun in Gemini is trining Pluto in Aquarius, we have a real power trine in play. There is a strong theme pertaining to choices, especially with Gemini being the mutable air sign.  We will probably be thinking big thoughts about what we want to do, and Pluto trining the Sun has a very empowering vibe.

Mercury and Uranus conjunct in 27 degrees of Taurus on the same day can bring some unexpected and shocking news.  But there is also the potential for some mental breakthroughs.  I hope that we don't hear any news about earthquakes or other natural disasters, but I am just saying don't be surprised if they occur...

The piece de resistance of May 24 is Saturn entering Aries to give us a sneak preview of what will transpire when it does its thing in Aries from February 2026 through April 2028.  It is a big shift from water to fire energy that will definitely have an effect on our structures.  I know that most astrologers say that Saturn is very uncomfortable in Aries because Aries is a very impulsive sign (cardinal fire), as well as extremely competitive and Saturn loves to take its time restructuring our lives.  Neptune is already in Aries, but they are not going to be conjunct until February 2026.  This will give us a real wake-up call regarding the geopolitical situation in the world.  Previous Saturn-Neptune conjunctions happened in 1952-52 in Libra, which was characterized the Cold War and in 1988-89 in Capricorn with the end of the Cold War, ushering in a period of globalization and new world order.

Saturn was last in Aries from April 1996 through June 1998 and again from October 1998 through the end of February 1999.  I actually was quite happy during this period in my life.  I was working very hard, but Saturn does encourage you to take personal responsibility and be a leader, especially in the sign of Aries.  And we had some good economic times with the dot.com boom.  It might take us a little longer to achieve our goals but that is Saturn's thing.  I am not that frightened of the Saturn in Aries transit or its conjunction with Neptune.  I sense that Saturn and Neptune in Aries will deliver a wake-up call that kicks off a new era, which is sorely needed.

Saturn in Aries will also focus on the Uranus in Aries era of 2011-2018, which included those notorious Uranus in Aries/Pluto in Capricorn squares that happened from 2013 through 2017.  With Saturn in Aries, we could find ourselves questioning the price of whatever rogue acts we committed during that period.  I don't know about you, but I experienced some pretty major changes during my life back then.

Mercury moves into its home sign of Gemini on May 25 and stays there until June 8. Mercury is a very happy camper in Gemini and it starts off by forming a supportive sextile to Saturn in Aries. Communication will definitely be emphasized and we should be able to get some things done.  When Mercury is in Gemini, we tend to be quite chatty, social and light-hearted.  We are also more rational and curious intellectually.  The shadow side of Mercury in Gemini is a tendency to be superficial.

On May 26 (Memorial Day in the United States) we have a New Moon in 6 degrees of Gemini.  This New Moon is conjunct Mercury in Gemini, which is forming a supportive sextile to Neptune in 1 degree of Aries, as well as Saturn in 0 degrees of Aries. Don't forget that sextiles bring opportunities. This is a whole lotta Mercury emphasis: the Moon in Gemini is ruled by Mercury.  Unlike the previous New Moon in Taurus, which felt like a Full Moon to many people, this one has a very playful and social vibe. If you have been contemplating any writing endeavors, this is the time to strike while the iron is hot.  The New Moon in Gemini is also trining Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius, which can be quite empowering.  There is a strong theme of choice with this New Moon in Gemini and we have some cosmic green lights in the form of sextiles and trines to give us an added boost.

Aries Season is Officially Launched with the Sun, Mercury and a New Moon in Aries While Pluto Enters Aquarius

 

Pisces season is ending with a bang as Mercury in Pisces squares off with Mars in 26 degrees of Gemini on March 17.  This will be one tense day that is definitely not going to be mellow and tempers could be flaring. The Sun and Mercury are also conjunct in Pisces on this day, so don't be surprised if hurt feelings are expressed.  Mercury in Pisces is sextiling Pluto in Capricorn on March 18 and we have the opportunity for more intense and in-depth communication and thinking.  

We have already have Jupiter and Chiron in Aries, but on March 19, Mercury joins the party and stays in Aries until April 3.  Mercury in Aries is more spontaneous in its thinking and conversation.  It can be impatient, impulsive, defensive and prone to making quick decisions.  But we will be more straightforward and honest, so at least we can bid farewell to the fog, confusion and deception that Mercury in Pisces brought to the table.

The Sun enters Aries on March 20 for the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumnal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere.  In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the first day of Spring. March 20 is also considered to be International Astrology Day.  It is the first day of the astrological New Year because Aries is the first sign of the zodiac.  March 2023 is a pivotal, game-changing month and this is quite perfect for it to be our New Year.  When the Sun is in Aries, we tend to have more courage, energy, a desire to conquer and are itching to initiate some action. We are more impulsive and can become impatient more easily.  Aries is ruled by Mars, don't forget. 

The Moon moves into Aries on March 21 and we have a New Moon in 0 degrees of Aries at 1:23 p.m.  This will be one highly visible, action-packed New Moon in Aries.  How could it not be with Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Chiron also in Aries?  It is very aggressive and dynamic energy.  Aries is a cardinal sign, and cardinal signs love to initiate, so set those new intentions.  The force is literally with us, as the New Moon is also conjunct Mercury in Aries, adding to our mental focus and strength in creating a new reality.  Neptune in 25 degrees of Pisces is also forming an out-of-sign conjunction with the New Moon, adding a layer of spirituality to the mix.  Don't even think of laying low or hiding out on this New Moon; it is a day to strut your stuff and launch your dreams.

Aries energy is dominating the astrological landscape these days.  And this year we have two New Moons in Aries.  The first one is on March 21 in 0 degrees of Aries and the second one happens on April 20 with a New Moon Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Aries.  This is a rare occurrence; we haven't had two New Moons in Aries since 2004.  Back in 2004, we had a New Moon in 0 degrees of Aries on March 20 and a Solar Eclipse on April 19 in 29 degrees of Aries. I always tend to describe Solar Eclipses as New Moons on steroids, which makes them even more powerful.  So just keep in mind to initiate your desires on March 21, but remember that you get another shot to keep the ball rolling on April 20... More on that in a later post.

On March 23, Pluto briefly enters the sign of Aquarius after having been in Capricorn since 2008.  Pluto will only remain in Aquarius until June 11 before it slips back into Capricorn. It will re-enter Aquarius on January 22, 2024 and then have one last tour in Capricorn on September 1, 2024 until it makes its final entry into Aquarius on November 19, 2024.  Then Pluto will be in Aquarius until 2043.

No one in the astrological community disputes the significance of Pluto entering Aquarius.  Pluto is a generational planet and its nature involves transformation.  I was watching Penny Thornton's YouTube video on Pluto in Aquarius this week and I couldn't help but agree with her when she said that you never really see what is coming with Pluto transits, but you will get stripped of something in your life.  You don't have a choice about what happens and there are no negotiations. You will feel threatened on some level and undergo a rebirth.  This doesn't mean that you will physically die, but something in your life will change.  Pluto's themes involve elimination, rebirth, death and reformation.  Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio and the two are irrevocably intertwined.  Scorpio is a sign of extremes, the fire and ice of the zodiac.  But it is also the sign that has as its highest form the phoenix that can rise from the ashes and be reborn.  It is a breakdown to a breakthrough process that frequently involves things getting worse before they get better.  I frequently tell my clients that rebirth ain't always pretty.  Pluto transits can feel like a wrecking ball is going through your life.   I personally had transiting Pluto in Capricorn conjunct my natal Chiron in Capricorn in my 4th house and I can certainly attest to that theory.

What can we expect with Pluto in Aquarius?  I am very fond of looking to history as a guide and the last time Pluto was in Aquarius was in 1789.  The French had their own revolution back then.  Aquarius is the sign associated with humanitarianism, enlightenment and trying to create a more equal society.  We can also expect technology to see major changes as the Internet continues to unite us or divide us, depending on your point of view.  I find it supremely interesting that when Pluto entered Capricorn back in 2008 we had a severe financial crisis and as it prepares to leave Capricorn for the first time, we are dealing with bank collapses.  The bottom line is that the changes in society we are trying to implement will not happen overnight.

Issues of power and control are also associated with the planet Pluto.  If you have planets or points like your Ascendant, IC, Descendant or Midheaven  in 0-1 degree of the fixed signs of  Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, you will be the first to experience the effects of Pluto in Aquarius.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire on this one as I have Mercury in 0 degrees of Scorpio.  I wonder how it will change my thinking and communication?

A High Energy New Moon in Aries and Venus Sails into Pisces

 

We have a high energy, octane-filled New Moon in 11 degrees of Aries on April 1, 2022.  New Moons are always associated with planting seeds and initiating new ventures, but this one has a special oomph to it.  For starters, it is in the cardinal fire sign of Aries, which is the first sign of the zodiac and a real go-getter.  The sign of Aries is brimming with courage,  initiative and impulsiveness.  A quest for freedom is a major theme of this New Moon. Mercury is also in Aries and this makes it an ideal time to launch a new project.  Many of us felt like the year 2022 began when the Sun entered Aries on March 20, but on April 1 we have the opportunity to literally blast off.

The New Moon is also conjunct Chiron in 12 degrees of Aries.  This could actually be a good thing as it could bring new healing treatments for the pandemic.  We are already hearing about the FDA authorizing a second booster shot for people over 50.  Just be mindful of the fact that there is also a tendency for Chiron to make us feel somewhat left out of the mainstream and with it so closely aspecting the Sun and Moon, we could be feeling it more acutely.  Just utilize that Aries energy to initiate contact with others and seek out alternative forms of  healing.

Mars in 19 degrees of Aquarius and Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus are also heavy hitters in this New Moon. They are forming a wide square aspect, which can produce more earthquakes, volatile weather or increase the demand for new social structures.

Mars and Saturn will be conjunct in 22 degrees of Aquarius on April 4.  Venus was conjunct Saturn in Aquarius on March 28, which inspired me to tweet:

What can we expect when Mars is conjunct Saturn in Aquarius?  We could be dealing with issues pertaining to forced control of freedom, as we might feel it difficult to make progress.  Mars and Saturn were conjunct in Capricorn on March 20, 2020, which brought about the lockdowns at the start of the pandemic. But the thing to understand with Mars-Saturn aspects (I have a natal square involving Mars in Aquarius squaring Saturn in Scorpio) is that they can make you very resourceful in terms of setting goals.  And this conjunction is in a fixed sign so it can increase our determination.  Saturn is also associated with fear and blockages, which we have a chance to release at this time.  Mars and Saturn will be squaring the North Node in 22 degrees of Taurus and the South Node in 22 degrees of Scorpio on April 5, so we are bound to be feeling intense pressure and stress to move forward and release the past.  Just remember to move towards the energy of the North Node in Taurus to preserve the earth and peace and not get sucked into the lower vibrations of Scorpio, which is quite literally hell-bent on revenge.  I can say this because I am all too familiar with the energy of Scorpio.  If you must use the Scorpio energy, tap into the loyalty piece.

On April 5 we have a real treat in store for us.  Venus enters the mutable water sign of Pisces, where it is exalted.  Venus stays in Pisces until May 2, so make the most of it.  Venus in Pisces is characterized by unconditional love, compassion, tenderness and heightened degrees of spirituality.  It is a very dreamy and romantic placement for Venus.  It can be a time when we fall in love at first sight, but it is not the best time to make a commitment because boundaries can get blurred.  Venus in Pisces also has a shadow side that can make us prone to victimization and subject to evasiveness in relationships.  But it is definitely a refreshing change from Venus in Aquarius, which has a more intellectual and detached quality.  When Venus is in Pisces, we tend to fall for people who trigger our compassion.  Just don't get tripped up on rescuing or saving that person...

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Powerful New Moon in Aries and Venus Enters Taurus

We are heavily entrenched in the season of Aries, which became even clearer on April 3 when Mercury entered Aries, joining the Sun, Venus, Ceres and Chiron.  On that day I tweeted:

I don’t know about you, but I noticed the change to Mercury in Aries immediately.  For me it has been manifesting in sudden bouts of anger.  Okay, I admit that when the cleaning person broke my lamp and I contacted her boss with a photo of the broken lamp shade pieces it was justified, but I was uttering some choice words before I breathed and texted her. She has agreed to compensate me financially for it, so it all worked out.

The aspects were fairly mellow this week after Mercury entered Aries, until April 9 when Mars in 21 degrees of Gemini squares Neptune in 21 degrees of Pisces. This aspect is not going to be fun, folks.  It will be rife with confusion, deception and manipulation.  I loved what astrologer Pam Gregory said about Mars square Neptune: “aggression at sea.”  I certainly hope that she is wrong, but it is an apt interpretation. It doesn’t help that the Moon in Pisces is conjunct Neptune. That is kind of a double whammy if ever I saw one.  I have Neptune in the 1^st house conjunct my ascendant, and I love to extoll the spiritual qualities of Neptune, but I think that we might be hard pressed to find them with this aspect, as it tends to dissipate energy.  Just be kind to yourself and keep your expectations for productivity low on this day.  It also seems that there is news about COVID-19 whenever Neptune is aspected.

But the New Moon in 22 degrees of Aries on April 11 will be akin to a gun being fired at the start of a race to set things in motion quickly. Big decisions will be made. I mentioned earlier that a lot of this action is due to the fact that the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Venus, Ceres and Chiron are in Aries.  Action is a major theme of this New Moon. 

When the Moon is in Aries, we are more courageous and a New Moon that just happens to be conjunct Mercury in Aries supplies the courage to take more risks and say what we are feeling.  The Moon enters Aries on April 10 and on that day it conjuncts Chiron in 5 degrees of Aries, so there is a strong likelihood that we will be getting in touch with some old emotional wounds for the purpose of healing them.  Pluto in Capricorn is a heavy hitter in this New Moon.  Venus in 26 degrees of Aries is squaring Pluto on April 11 and this aspect will generate tension, conflict, control issues and obsessive-compulsive behavior.  I have a natal Venus Pluto square, so I am all too familiar with what it entails.  It could also bring up issues with a third party in and highlight triangles in relationships.  But it does have a way of weeding out toxic habits and perhaps ending relationships that no longer serve us. It is a pretty safe bet to predict that there will be lots of emotional intensity and themes of freedom, independence, safety and security will be rampant.

Pluto in Capricorn is very busy on a decluttering mission for the first half of April. The Sun in Aries will be exactly squaring Pluto on the 13^th and Mercury in Aries will be squaring Pluto in Capricorn in mid-April.  When the Sun is squaring Pluto, we will be dealing with control issues and ego conflicts.  It’s important to remember that we need to let go, let the transformation occur and reclaim our inner power.  Mercury squaring Pluto will bring intense interactions with others and we could find ourselves communicating in a very defensive manner. But we are releasing toxic thoughts that need to go.

All is not lost with this upcoming New Moon, however.  We have some very positive aspects occurring.  The New Moon in 22 degrees of Aries is forming supportive sextiles to Mars in 23 degrees of Gemini and Jupiter in 25 degrees of Aquarius.  These sextiles supply energy, luck and foster expansion of our goals.  And Mars in Gemini and Jupiter in Aquarius are trining each other, which provides energy for our visions of the future and Jupiter expands our courage to pursue those dreams.  These are definitely bright spots on the New Moon and we should focus on those while we are setting new intentions, which is what we should be doing on a New Moon.

On April 14, we have an astrological treat in store for us when Venus leaves Aries and enters one of its happy places, Taurus.  Venus is exalted in Pisces, but it rules Taurus and Libra, so it is right at home in Taurus and eminently comfortable. Just in case you hadn’t noticed, Venus is not the happiest camper in Aries.  When Venus is in Taurus, it is more sensual and seeks security and values that will go the distance.  We will also feel more emotionally grounded.  But we can be torn between spending money on our love of luxury versus saving.  And the shadow side of Venus in Taurus is possessiveness.  Venus will remain in Taurus until May 8, so enjoy the ride.
