The Sun and Mercury Cazimi in Cancer and a New Moon in Cancer Herald an Emotional Reset

 

The Cancer energy is quite literally flowing, as water tends to do, all over the place this week.  On July 12, the Sun and retrograde Mercury are Cazimi in 20 degrees of Cancer. This simply means that Mercury is in the center of the Sun's rays.  Mercury is retrograde until July 23, but on this day we could get some real insights and emotional breakthroughs from what has already transpired in this Mercury retrograde that began on June 29.  It can provide a measure of mental clarity and a reset in the middle of this retrograde.  Pay close attention to any insights that arrive, either through dreams, conversations or even social media posts.  Our instincts and intuitive powers are functioning at full strength now.

The Sidera app makes a very cogent observation regarding Mercury Retrograde. But here’s what most people miss: Mercury retrograde is not just a warning label. It is a timing pattern that shows where your communication, assumptions, and decision-making habits need a second look. Venus in Virgo is exactly squaring Uranus in 4 degrees of Gemini on July 13. This can bring relationship tensions, sudden changes of mind and financial upsets.  This is setting the stage for the New Moon in 22 degrees of Cancer on July 14.  Venus in Virgo will also conjunct the South Node of the Moon in 1 degree of Virgo on the New Moon, which has an element of releasing the past, signifying an ending of something in our lives that no longer serves our highest good.

There is a strong theme of emotional resets and redefinition of what home/family means to us on the New Moon in Cancer.  Since New Moons are all about setting intentions, this New Moon will involve planting seeds for home, family and long-term security.  There will also be a great deal of nostalgia around this New Moon because Cancer loves to reflect on the past. Emotional pain will be brought to the surface.  The New Moon in 22 degrees of Cancer is conjunct Mercury, which helps facilitate introspection and reassessing old family patterns while affording us the opportunity to communicate feelings more honestly.  Mercury retrograde is heightening our awareness of the past.  We have a strong heart-mind connection on this New Moon.  If you have planets around 20-25 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn you will feel the effects of this New Moon acutely.

This New Moon in Cancer is also setting off the December 21, 2025 square between Jupiter in 22 degrees of Cancer and Chiron in 22 degrees of Aries.  A Jupiter-Chiron square is very uncomfortable and can feel like a dark night of the soul.  Back in December, we probably experienced a great deal of tension pertaining to caring for others and prioritizing our own boundaries.  The New Moon can reveal the hidden pain from that period in time because Cancer is very unconscious, deep watery energy and  can give us a new understanding so that we are able to reevaluate our personal story.  More healing, self-compassion, empathy and self-understanding can arise to release us from situations that arose in December 2025. We could be realizing that it's okay to be vulnerable and give ourselves a little grace. The emotional reset that we thought would never arrive could happen as a result of this New Moon.

Both Jupiter and Chiron entered new signs recently.  Jupiter entered Leo on June 30 and Chiron entered Taurus on June 19.  They formed an exact square again in 0 degrees of Leo and Taurus on July 1. This time the square in fixed signs had a theme of tension between bold self-expression and needing more grounding. It still could have been painful though.

We are headed towards more changes that happen quickly as the month of July continues.  Old stories are about to be released.  Hope exists and there will be more optimism.  Be aware that planets in 4 degrees of fire and air are converging in trines and sextiles: Pluto in 4 degrees of Aquarius, Uranus in 4 degrees of Gemini, Neptune in 4 degrees of Aries and Jupiter in 4 degrees of Leo.  Jupiter in Leo will give us the courage to take a risk and be seen, so stay tuned for more revolutionary changes to come that set us on the path for a new course in life that will extend into the rest of this decade.  In many ways, we are finally finding our way back from the pandemic that began in 2020.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. The Sun Enters Cancer, Meets up with Jupiter, an Illuminating New Moon in Cancer and Mercury Moves into Leo for an Extended Stay

 

Summer is officially here on June 20 at 10:42 pm when the Sun enters Cancer for the Solstice. When the Sun is in the cardinal water sign of Cancer, we are more focused on nesting, security and experiencing deep emotions.  Never forget that Cancer is ruled by the Moon.  We are inclined to be more nurturing and protective when the Sun is in Cancer, but the shadow side of the Sun in Cancer is moodiness.

The Cancer Sun doesn't waste any time getting into it with the other planets.  On June 22, the Sun in Cancer is squaring Saturn in 1 degree of Aries.  This is not exactly a lighthearted aspect.  It can be accompanied by challenges and tests, as well as feelings of depression and pessimism.  There could be restrictions and responsibilities galore.  It can bring a test of character, so do your best to meet your obligations or you could wind up regretting it down the road.  

We do have a saving grace aspect on June 22, though. Mars in Virgo is forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 2 degrees of Cancer.  Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which means that Mars sextiling Jupiter can make us feel stronger and more courageous to tackle those difficult tasks that we are facing.

On June 24, the Sun and Jupiter are conjunct in 3 degrees of Cancer.  Some astrologers are referring to this as the luckiest day of the year.  Feelings of well-being, happiness and optimism will be out in full force. Personal and spiritual growth are out in full force.  We can also be feeling more generous towards others.  Make the most of this day.

We have a New Moon in 4 degrees of Cancer on June 25.  This particular New Moon can provide a fresh start in our home life and with our emotions.  It's possible to move into a bigger place, especially with New Moon conjunct Jupiter in Cancer.  But the New Moon in Cancer is also squaring Saturn in 1 degree of Aries and Neptune in 2 degrees of Aries.  If you have any planets or points in the early degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, you will feel this quite acutely.

When the New Moon in Cancer squares Saturn in Aries, it can be difficult to connect with people in a meaningful way.  The theme of restriction looms and we can experience feelings of depression, sadness, loneliness and guilt.

The New Moon in Cancer's square to Neptune in Aries can manifest as confusion and emotional insecurity.  Our feelings can be very easily hurt because we are so emotionally sensitive. The Neptune factor also makes us vulnerable to deception, but it can make us more empathetic towards others if we choose the high road.

We have yet another complicating factor with this New Moon.  Mercury in 28 degrees of Cancer is forming an opposition to Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius.  Secrets could be revealed; matters can come to a head and some people might demonstrate a complete lack of moral compass in their quest for power and control. I don't know about you, but I have been reeling from the actions by some people in this world, both on a personal and collective level.

Mercury moves into Leo on June 26 for an extended stay until September 2.  That's right, we have another Mercury retrograde coming up on July 18, when it stations retrograde in 15 degrees of Leo.  It will station direct on August 11 in 4 degrees of Leo.

What can we expect with Mercury in Leo?  Communication will be bolder, more confident, creative and dramatic.  It's a very social vibe too and is extremely favorable for public speaking and leadership roles.  It is really a time to shine and strut your stuff.

A New Moon in Cancer and Venus Enters Leo

 

The first New Moon of summer is upon us.  On July 5, we have a New Moon in 14 degrees of Cancer that promises to be extremely emotional, as only a water Moon can be.  And we have had Saturn and Neptune station retrograde in Pisces in the past week, adding to the water works. Saturn stationed retrograde in 19 degrees of Pisces on June 29, inspiring me to post:

What are the themes of a New Moon in Cancer?  Hopefully we can set some intentions to nurture and support our loved ones while also engaging in some massive self-care.  Although there are no exact aspects to the New Moon in Cancer, we do have Mars in Taurus forming a supportive sextile to Saturn in 19 degrees of Pisces.  This is a very positive aspect that will give us the energy, endurance and determination to succeed at whatever we undertake.  It's a perfect complement to a New Moon because it encourages us to plot a course of action in an efficient manner.  And patience is easier to come by, which I think that all of us could use in these challenging times.  Our powers of persuasion are ramped up a notch to boot.

On July 6, Venus in Cancer will be squaring Chiron in 23 degrees of Aries.  This aspect occurs at 2:33 a.m., so I am including it as the New Moon in Cancer will be colored by it.  It can bring discomfort, complications and resurrect deep pain or loss in order to instigate some major healing.  

There is more water energy at play on July 10 when the Sun in 19 degrees of Cancer trines Saturn in 19 degrees of Pisces.  I am particularly invested in this aspect because my Midheaven is in 19 degrees of Cancer and it triggers a Grand Water Trine with my Sun in 19 degrees of Scorpio.  This aspect is associated with responsibility, patience, persistence and determination.  There is no escaping Saturn's influence these days, that's for sure.  It's possible to get some recognition now for our hard work, though.  It is extremely favorable for initiating constructive changes to the structures of our lives. Mental discipline and concentration are very strong now.

Venus leaves Cancer and moves into Leo on July 11 until August 4.  Venus in Leo is characterized by big romance, drama and gestures of generosity and flamboyance.  This is definitely not a shrinking violet Venus.  There is a strong ego investment in our love life, as well as a of luxury. We want to be adored now. The urge to spend is rife, so watch those credit cards.  But Venus in Leo is also creative, warm-hearted and joyful energy.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Venus in Leo is a tendency towards excessiveness, arrogance and attention-seeking behavior.

A Powerful New Moon in Cancer, the Nodes Move into Aries and Libra and Mars Opposes Saturn

 

The month of July is really heating up in more ways than one.  Many people have commented recently that it feels like eclipse energy despite the fact that the next round of eclipses isn't due until October.  There is a very good reason for this: we have a New Moon in 24 degrees of Cancer on July 17 and the Nodes of the Moon are changing signs on the same day.  They are moving from Taurus and Scorpio to Aries and Libra.  The Nodes are not planets, but they are points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects the ecliptic and will affect the eclipses for the next 18 months.  And they move backwards, so on July 17, the North Node will move into 29 degrees of Aries while the South Node will enter 29 degrees of Libra.  

The Nodes of the Moon operate on an 18.6-year cycle, which means that the last time they were in these signs was from December 26, 2004 through June 20, 2006.  You might find it helpful to think back to this period in your life, as similar issues could re-emerge.  The North Node will remain in Aries and the South Node in Libra until late January 2025.  

The North Node in Aries is calling for us to stretch out of our comfort zone and flex our muscles to find our inner authority, independence and power.  Aries is a cardinal fire sign that is fearless about moving forward, which is a big change from the fixed earth sign of Taurus that is slower and more methodical about building roots for the future.  The South Node in Libra represents karmic baggage that we need to shed to move forward in our collective destiny.  When the South Node is in Libra, we need to release the need to be people pleasers and over-compromise. It's time to ditch any codependent traits that are not serving you well. This nodal shift requires us to find our voice and express ourselves authentically.  The North Node in Aries will be transiting my 7th house and the South Node in Libra will be in my 1st house, so I have no doubt that it will impact my relationships.  The house placement of the Nodes is a good indicator of where things will change for you.  If you have your Sun at the end of Aries, the North Node in Aries will feel very karmic as it connects with your Sun and things start happening. The New Moon in 24 degrees of Cancer is exact at 2:32 p.m. on July 17.  It has a very inspirational and creative vibe because is also trining Neptune in 27 degrees of Pisces.  New Moons are a perfect time to set new intentions by trusting our intentions.  The Moon rules the sign of Cancer, so it is right at home and we could find it easier to trust our emotions.  The New Moon is also forming a supportive sextile to Uranus in 22 degrees of Taurus, making it easier for us to implement change in a different way. Uranus in Taurus is trining Pluto in Capricorn and sextiling Neptune in Pisces, so there is a very powerful spiritual component that assists us with our path of transformation.  But we also need to realize that the New Moon in Cancer is also opposing Pluto in Capricorn, activating the themes of death and rebirth. Pluto in Capricorn is also inconjunct Venus in Leo, which can bring some abrupt changes in wealth, passion or cause intense jealousy if we don't make some course corrections.  Pluto aspecting Neptune and Venus create a Finger of God configuration, which can be very karmic. Pluto in Capricorn is very active in this New Moon, because it is also squaring the nodal axis and will continue to square the Nodes until November 2023.  Watch the dates of July 22, 25 and 28 because the squares will be exact on those days.  

The New Moon in Cancer is involved in a Cardinal Grand Cross with the Nodes of the Moon in Aries and Libra, and Pluto in Capricorn.  I sense that there will be strong themes of nurturing, emotional security and a focus on protecting loved ones during this New Moon.  Mercury in Leo is also squaring Jupiter in 12 degrees of Taurus on the New Moon, which can bring optimism and a view of the big picture.  But we need to be mindful of the tendency to be too cocky, arrogant or promise more than we can deliver because this aspect doesn't favor paying attention to details.

On July 20, Mars in Virgo will be opposing Saturn in 6 degrees of Pisces.  I am not going to sugar coat this one, folks, because it involves endings and themes of pushing and withholding.  Saturn in Pisces can feel downright depressing and Mars in Virgo can be hyper and frenetic.  Challenging Mars-Saturn aspects are never fun but they can be productive in terms of focused and detailed work that demands caution and patience.  Otherwise, we could find ourselves dealing with a problem that has no apparent solution or we could feel like we have one foot on the accelerator and the other foot on the brake.  It can be a frustrating day, and frustration is something that Mars and Saturn combined do together.

Venus is starting to slow down for its retrograde that begins on July 22. The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Dramatic New Moon in Cancer Featuring Black Moon Lilith and Neptune Stationing Retrograde

 

Save the date of June 28, 2022 because it will be a very big day astrologically.  The main event will be the New Moon in 7 degrees of Cancer.  New Moons are the perfect time to set new intentions and plant the seeds for a fresh start.  The Moon rules the sign of Cancer, so this one is bound to make us feel more sensitive, intuitive and emotional.  There will undoubtedly be  drama and big happenings on this day because the Sun and Moon are also squaring Jupiter in 7 degrees of Aries.  Jupiter loves to expand whatever it touches and on a New Moon in Cancer it can bring emotional drama via ego clashes as well as good fortune, growth and abundance.  Venus in Gemini is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Aries adding to the good luck piece of love, socializing and finances. We could also be hearing more news about inflation.  It goes without saying that the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces or anyone with planets in the early degrees of this sign will feel the emotional impact of this New Moon the most intensely.  I am on alert with this New Moon because it is conjunct my South Node in Cancer in my 9th house, so I sense that I need to set some intentions on releasing a big part of my past that no longer serves my best interests.

The New Moon in Cancer is also conjunct the asteroid Black Moon Lilith in 8 degrees of Cancer.  Black Moon Lilith is the asteroid that pertains to the shadow side of us that keeps us trapped in a cycle of self-destructive behavior.  Black Moon Lilith spends about eight months in a sign.  When Black Moon Lilith is in Cancer, the shadow of support is present and our fear of abandonment can cause us to project issues of dependency and neediness onto others.  Some of our deepest and darkest secrets can be revealed.  I am mentioning this because I have a very prominent Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio that has had a strong influence on my life.  When I learned about Black Moon Lilith about nine years ago, I engaged in some very deep soul searching because it gave meaning to a lot of the emotional pain that I had endured and inspired me to make some changes in my life.  I also offer a Black Moon Lilith reading that provides tremendous insight into how you self-sabotage.  It is not for the faint of heart, but if you are up for some deep work on yourself it is well worth it. Knowledge can be very empowering.

Neptune is stationing retrograde in 25 degrees of Pisces on the New  Moon as well.  Neptune will remain retrograde until December 3, 2022 when it stations direct in 22 degrees of Pisces.  When Neptune is retrograde, we tend to want more spirituality in our lives.  But Neptune retrograde can also cause confusion, more drug abuse, toxicity, secrets and deception.  Neptune retrograde internalizes our fears and anxieties by stripping away illusions.  It can reveal the source of the pain we are trying to escape from (Neptune is the planet associated with escapism, after all) but Neptune retrograde can enhance spiritual self-development.  We are much more likely to listen to our inner voice at this time. Neptune is retrograde for approximately 160 days every year, which is 40% of the time and it causes much less disruption than Mercury retrograde.  Its effects can very subtle.  

The bottom line with this New Moon in Cancer is that it will be more emotional than usual and don't be surprised if you find yourself engaged in some deep soul searching due to the fact that Neptune in Pisces is also stationing retrograde on that day.  Planets are at their most powerful when they are stationing direct or retrograde.  The emotional depth of this New Moon is also emphasized by its conjunction to Black Moon Lilith in Cancer.  Allow yourself the time and space to get in touch with your feelings and set some new intentions on June 28, 2022.
