An Active Week as Venus Enters Virgo, a Solar Eclipse in Virgo, Mars Enters Scorpio and the Sun Moves into Libra

 

Hang on for a wild ride during the coming week.  As astrologer David Zunker posted on Blue Sky Social, "Here in Eclipse Alley, everything is intensified."  This really sums up the feeling of the entire month.

Let's break it down. On September 19, Venus departs dramatic Leo for the mutable earth sign of Virgo, where it resides until October 13.  Love is going to take on a whole different flavor than when it was in Leo.  We tend to express our affection through service to others with Venus now. Venus in Virgo can also feature more attention to detail in creative work and/or financial planning. Don't forget that Venus is also associated with money.  When Venus is in Virgo, we tend to be more reserved and discriminating in relationships.  Try to engage in some self-care too, because Venus is in a sensual earth sign.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Venus in Virgo is a tendency towards being critical and perfectionist.

On September 21, we have the second New Moon in Virgo in 2025.  The first one occurred on August 23 in 0 degrees of Virgo, but this one is a partial Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo.  That's right, the critical or anaretic degree.  There is a major theme of release with this eclipse because it is near the South Node of the Moon in 18 degrees of Virgo.  It is more karmic and there is a feeling that we are reaping what we have sown.  There could be some major news about health crises during this eclipse. 

This Solar Eclipse is also making major aspects to the outer planets.  For starters, it is opposing Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces.  This entails the themes of structure and surrender.  Saturn is not especially comfortable in Pisces and it is retrograde to boot.  But the Sun and Moon in the last degree of Virgo are calling for some kind of ending to a crisis, perhaps a health issue.  Just be careful not to get caught up in self-deception or escapism during this eclipse.  

The Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo is also forming an opposition to Neptune in 0 degrees of Aries, which heightens the potential for tempting illusions.   And it squares Uranus in 1 degree of Gemini, which only further fuels the wild card vibe with the potential for disruptions in information or communication.

We also have a couple of irritating inconjuncts with this Solar Eclipse.  It inconjuncts Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius, which can require adjustments in power systems.  The Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Virgo also inconjuncts Chiron in 26 degrees of Aries.  This is bound to be emotionally uncomfortable as we experience increased sensitivity to old hurts and wounds.  We will need to confront those wounds to adjust and heal them.

There are some positive aspects present during this Solar Eclipse.  Pluto in Aquarius is trining Uranus in Gemini, which is a favorable influence for making the radical changes that are necessary. The Moon in Virgo is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 21 degrees of Cancer (where it is exalted), which in my mind is the saving grace aspect of this eclipse because it brings optimism, good fortune and faith in the future.

We all know that eclipses come in pairs and the last one occurred on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces.  This was a North Node eclipse and we might find that the Solar Eclipse in Virgo can activate some new developments that could have started two weeks ago. Anyone with planets or points in the middle degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius would have felt the effects of this eclipse more acutely.

Eclipses don't just happen on that one day.  The effects can be felt for a good five months.  Many people were saddened this week to hear about the death of Robert Redford on September 16.  I couldn't resist looking at his chart.  The Lunar Eclipse on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces was opposing his natal Neptune in 15 degrees of Virgo in his 6th house of health. It also squared his Jupiter in 14 degrees of Sagittarius in his 9th house. When he died, Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces was conjunct his Ascendant.  And the upcoming Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo squares his Midheaven in 29 degrees of Sagittarius, ensuring that his passing would generate big news. As astrologers say, you can't make this stuff up.  Eclipses tell a story and sometimes that story has an ending.

On September 22, Mars, the planet representing drive, action, motivation and desire, enters Scorpio until November 4.  Mars is very strong in Scorpio because it was considered the ruler  of Scorpio until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  It is right at home in this fixed water sign.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we have the tenacity to persevere through difficult challenges and get to the bottom of things.  We have the power to unleash our drive and ambition.  There is no shortage of willpower.  Be prepared for some heavy-duty psychological self-examination.  But be aware that the shadow of Mars in Scorpio is that we can be inclined to seek out revenge, engage in power struggles or find it difficult to forgive. Mars in Scorpio will be squaring Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on September 24. This will highlight issues of anger, passion and power struggles.  It can also instigate changes in leadership.  Adding to the mix on that day is the fact the Moon enters Scorpio, which will intensify the emotional vibration.

The Sun moves into Libra on September 22.  Our focus shifts to finding balance and harmony in relationships. Reconciliations are possible now because we really don't want to go it alone now. We tend to feel more sociable and since Libra is the cardinal air sign, we could be initiating contact with others.  We also appreciate beauty and the finer things in life, so shopping trips could be on the agenda for some of us.  The shadow side of the Sun in Libra is that we can be indecisive because we see both sides of situations and we can also be passive-aggressive.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mars and Venus Change Signs While Pluto Stations Direct

 

Brace yourself for a heavy week ahead of next week's Solar Eclipse in Libra.  On October 8, we have two major planetary events.  Mars in Libra forms an exact square with Pluto in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  The last time we had a Mars-Pluto square was on July 1, 2022 when Mars was in Aries and Pluto was in Capricorn.  What can we expect this time? Let's just say that self-control will be missing in action as anger, impulsiveness and compulsive behavior rule the roost.  Mars is considered to be in detriment in Libra, so passive-aggressive actions are very common.  This aspect can trigger lots of conflict to see who get the upper hand.  Mars squaring Pluto can give us courage and willpower but it is accompanied by an intense desire to gain control. And we all know that this frequently leads to power struggles and confrontations. Issues of law and order could be an arena for these conflicts.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire as Mars is conjunct my Neptune and Juno in Libra and squaring my Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house while also squaring my Chiron in Capricorn in y 4th house.  And Pluto in Capricorn is a mere three degrees away from my natal Chiron and opposing that Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer while squaring my Neptune and Juno in Libra in my 1st house. So I am issuing a friendly warning to anyone who has planets in 24-29 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn to be on alert on October 8...

Venus is entering the mutable earth sign of Virgo on October 8 too.  Venus has been in Leo since June 5 due to that lovely Venus retrograde we experienced from July 22 through September 3.  Venus is clearing its retrograde shadow on October 7, in case you are interested. Venus will be in Virgo until November 8, but we need to be mindful of the fact that Venus is considered to be in fall in Virgo because it is exalted in Pisces.  Venus in Virgo is a time to express love through practical means and service to others.  It is definitely not as flashy, dramatic or flamboyant as Venus in Leo.  So we are in for some changes.  Venus in Virgo is an earth sign, though, so we are not exactly going to be ignoring earthy pleasures.  It's just not the best time to find a new love because of Virgo's perfectionist standards.  That is the shadow side of Venus in Virgo: we can be too critical of partners.  That goes for existing partners, as well as potential ones. The bottom line is that we are more reserved and discriminating.  Venus in Virgo can be beneficial for practical financial decisions, though.  Venus in Virgo is also a boon for holistic healing methods, so feel free to try out acupuncture or Reiki.

Pluto in Capricorn is stationing direct on October 10 in 27 degrees of Capricorn after having been retrograde since May 1.  It actually stationed retrograde in 0 degrees of Aquarius, which was when we got a taste of life with Pluto in Aquarius because Pluto briefly entered Aquarius on March 23, 2023.  Pluto will re-enter Aquarius on January 20, 2024 when the Sun enters Aquarius, but it will retrograde in Aquarius on May 2, 2024 in 2 degrees of Aquarius and re-enter Capricorn on September 1, 2024 for its last stint in Capricorn. This means that the 2024 elections in the United States occur while Pluto is in Capricorn. Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19, 2024 until March 8, 2043.  The major theme with Pluto being direct until next May is that we have the chance to practice acceptance of the changes that are being thrust upon us as only Pluto can do.  It has a way of tearing down the structures of our life for rebirth to happen. And, as I have often said, rebirth ain't always pretty...

Venus in Virgo is also opposing Saturn in 1 degree of Pisces on October 10.  This is a real buzz kill aspect, no sugar coating it.  We can expect to experience delays and limitations in love and finances.  It's not the most social vibe, so keep your expectations low on this day.

Mars enters Scorpio on October 12 and stays there until November 24, 2023.  Mars is a very happy camper in the sign of Scorpio and was considered to be the ruling planet of Scorpio (as well as Aries) until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  Mars in Scorpio is passionate, determined and dedicated.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we can be very focused on getting what we want and we are direct about it, unlike Mars in Libra.  We are not afraid to tackle the important issues and are attracted to crisis because it is transformative and emotionally exciting.  We can be obsessively focused, instinctive and tenacious.  Backing down is not in Mars in Scorpio's vocabulary.  Drive and passion are strong with Mars in Scorpio, but stubbornness is part of the package because it is the fixed water sign.

I also wanted to note that in an ironic twist of fate, the latest variant of COVID is EG.5, with a nickname of Eris.  Sound familiar--the Goddess of Discord?  Apparently, COVID cases and hospitalizations are on the rise...

I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. The newest vaccine is available and I encourage you to get it to protect yourself. I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus twice. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

Scorpio Season Heats Up as Mars Enters Scorpio and a New Moon in Scorpio

 

Scorpio season is here and about to become even more intense.  The Sun entered Scorpio on October 23 inspiring me to tweet:

Prepare for a month of emotional intensity as the Sun enters Scorpio today and we find the courage to deal with our deepest fears, reveal our secrets and transform our lives. #astrology

But on October 30, the energy really ramps ups due to the Sun in Scorpio forming an exact square to Saturn in 7 degrees of Aquarius and Mars entering Scorpio until December 13, 2021. The square aspect occurs at 5:53 a.m., so most of us will be asleep when it is exact.  But the effects could spill into our morning.  Don’t be surprised if you wake up feeling pessimistic, depressed or just plain isolated.  It can also make us feel tired and overcome with responsibilities.  When Saturn connects with the Sun it has a way of draining our energy.  Try to realize that this aspect is a major test of character and that the best way to survive it is to exercise patience and determination, despite the fact that our goals might seem insurmountable.  Do what you can to take care of business, but if you need extra rest, by all means give yourself permission to do so.  Our self-confidence will return when we have made some effort. 

Mars is the planet associated with anger, aggression and passion.  It enters the fixed water sign of Scorpio at 10:21 a.m. on October 30.  Mars is a very happy camper in Scorpio because Mars rules Aries and Scorpio.  Mars was considered to be the sole ruler of Scorpio until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  Mars in Scorpio is very competitive and focused like a laser.  Scorpio also pertains to debts, other people’s money, sexuality, private matters and secrets that you could be ashamed of.  When Mars is in Scorpio it can trigger self-loathing and shame over finances or relationships, but it can also give you the strength to fight for yourself.  Mars is the planet that motivates us and fuels our desires, and when it is in the sign of Scorpio, it’s a perfect time to reclaim our power.  If you have been feeling at all victimized lately, Mars in Scorpio will help you to express your needs and shed that martyr persona.  It’s an energizing jolt of energy that we all need right now.  Mars was not very comfortable in the sign of Libra, and it formed some very challenging aspects, especially with Pluto in Capricorn.  It’s time to bid farewell to that passive-aggressive vibe that Mars in Libra is renowned for.  The shadow side of Mars in Scorpio is that it can be vengeful in its actions if you cross it.  Just be mindful of that fact and this can be a very productive and powerful transit.

On November 4, we have a New Moon in 12 degrees of Scorpio.  The themes that will be prevalent on this New Moon in Scorpio include intensity, passion, vengeance, and an extreme all or nothing vibe.  Angry words are possible on this New Moon because Mercury in late Libra and Mars in 4 degrees of Scorpio are squaring Saturn in 7 degrees of Aquarius.  It will be time to deal with some harsh realities and upsets are bound to happen.   The New Moon is also in direct opposition to Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus, which can bring shocks, upsets, unexpected events and revelations.  We could also experience technology going haywire again with the opposition to Uranus in Taurus, as well as some weather-related shocks and economic upheavals. The past three New Moons (August, September and October in the signs of Leo, Virgo and Libra) have all aspected Uranus in Taurus, which only serves to underscore the prevailing aspect of 2021: Saturn in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus.  We had the first Saturn-Uranus square on February 17^th in 7 degrees, the second one occurred on June 14 in 13 degrees and the final one happens on December 24, 2021 in 11 degrees.

As a Scorpio, I have a vested interest in this New Moon because if I play my cards right and set some intentions for a brand new lifestyle, I can reap the benefits of some major changes.  Of course, there are other factors affecting me profoundly.  For starters, this New Moon is conjunct my Saturn in Scorpio in my 1^st house of self.  I guess I just can’t escape the effects of the Saturn-Uranus square!  The New Moon in Scorpio is also forming a supportive sextile to my North Node in Capricorn in my 3^rd house, so it’s time for me to move forward on my soul’s path.  But the New Moon is also squaring my natal Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house, so I suspect that there will be some frustration and possible blockages in terms of moving forward.  I just want to close with urging all of you to set some new intentions on this New Moon because it is powerful and can pack quite a punch in terms of achieving a sense of personal power because Mars in Scorpio is widely conjunct the New Moon.  Don’t discount the power of Mars; it’s definitely going to have a profound impact.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. If you are eligible for a booster shot, get it. The Delta strain of the virus is very serious and we need to remain vigilant with our masks, even if we are fully vaccinated.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!  

Mars Enters Scorpio and Mercury Stations Direct

The sun may be winding down its transit in Scorpio, but there is still plenty of Scorpio energy influencing us.  We had a major belt of it earlier this week with the Sun Mercury conjunction in Scorpio on November 11, 2019 and the Full Moon in Taurus on November 12, 2019.  These aspects inspired me to tweet:

We have a rare Mercury transit today with a sun Mercury conjunction in Scorpio. Mercury is actually visible for 5 hours as a black dot across the sun. But Mercury retrograde could bring more misunderstandings and crises. #astrology

But the strongest Scorpio energy is yet to come.  On November 19, 2019 Mars enters the sign of Scorpio until January 3, 2020.  Mars is very strong and potent in the sign of Scorpio and in the sign of Aries, the two signs it rules.  Until Pluto was discovered, Mars was deemed to be the ruler of Scorpio.  When Mars is transiting Scorpio, we have the ability to act on our deepest desires.  We are more driven and focused on getting what we want.  It bears repeating that Scorpio is fixed water, so we have more tenacity and perseverance when Mars is in Scorpio.  In fact, we may be attracted to crisis because we perceive it as transformative and emotionally exciting as we find it easier to work through difficult challenges.  Don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving extreme emotions during this transit.

When Mars is in Scorpio we have no fear of confronting the darker side of life and it’s a perfect time for psychological self-examination.  A strong sense of purpose prevails while Mars is in Scorpio.  Mars transiting Scorpio also holds the potential for helping us to develop our personal power if we can avoid the pitfalls of power struggles, revenge, resentment and an inability to forgive. These pitfalls represent the shadow side of Scorpio, so we will need to be mindful or we could wind up expressing unrelenting aggressiveness and anger.  While Mars in Scorpio is definitely more direct and assertive than Mars in Libra (where it has been since October 4, 2019), there is also a tendency to be manipulative and act in a passive-aggressive manner with Mars in Scorpio.  I’m just warning you about yet another potential pitfall that could exist with Mars in Scorpio.

Mars will be in Scorpio throughout the holidays and during the last eclipse of 2019 on December 26, 2019 in 4 degrees of Capricorn.  The year 2020 will start with Mars in 28 degrees of Scorpio and that will be hitting my chart in terms of conjuncting my Venus in Scorpio, trining my Uranus and Jupiter in Cancer and squaring my Pluto in Leo.  I sense that there will be plenty of action for me to start the year 2020.

On the following day, November 20, 2019 Mercury stations direct in 11 degrees of Scorpio, which should bring a collective sigh of relief around the world.  Communications should start returning to normal but please be mindful of the fact that Mercury doesn’t officially clear its retrograde shadow until December 7, 2019 in 27 degrees of Scorpio.  This means that Mercury will not be operating at full speed until December but we should all notice some improvement when it stations direct.

When a planet stations retrograde or direct, its influence is stronger than normal.  On November 20, 2019 the moon in Virgo is favorably sextiling Mercury in Scorpio, which encourages us to talk about family and relationship problems.  I don’t know about you, but I have found that this Mercury retrograde was particularly frustrating.  It conjuncted most of my Scorpio planets, squared my Mars in Aquarius and opposed my Pluto in Leo. I will definitely be relieved to see Mercury moving forward.

Mars Comes Home to Scorpio and Stirs Our Passions

Life is about to get a lot more interesting and passionate as Mars prepares to leave the sign of Libra, where it is distinctly uncomfortable, and enter its home signs of Scorpio.  Mars is right at home in Aries and Scorpio, the two signs that it rules. But before Mars leaves Libra on December 9, 2017, it managed to knock a home run out of the park when Mars in 28 degrees of Libra sextiled both Mercury and Saturn in Sagittarius, inspiring me to tweet:

Mars represents our desire nature and when it is in the sign of Scorpio (until January 26, 2018) our desires can be channeled through that renowned Scorpio willpower and focused intention. Mars is very strong in the sign of Scorpio but it also has a tendency to move in secret and in the shadows.  Mars in Scorpio will help us develop a laser sharp focus with our intentions. Not only are our desires stronger when Mars is in Scorpio, our determination to get what we want is even stronger.

Sexuality will be heightened and for those of us with a heavy emphasis on Scorpio or the 8^th house in our charts (mea culpa), we may find ourselves becoming downright obsessive in our relationships.  Feelings of aggression, anger and fear of losing control that remained dormant during the transit of Mars in Libra may surface.  We may also find ourselves attracted to crisis, as it is emotionally exciting and can be ultimately transformative, Scorpio is all about transformation and it is an extremist sign, finding it difficult to maintain a middle ground.  Scorpio is an all or nothing sign, no doubt about it.

But Mars in Scorpio does give us the courage to confront our inner and outer demons.  The downside of Mars in Scorpio is that it has an excellent memory and forgiveness does not come easily with this astrological influence.  Mars in Scorpio does not suffer fools gladly.

Obviously, Mars in Scorpio is going to be hitting my chart pretty heavily, with my Mercury, Saturn, Sun, Ceres, Black Moon Lilith and Venus in Scorpio.  I will probably be a force to be reckoned with on December 9^th when its conjuncts my Mercury, but my main concern is how I will fare when it conjuncts my Saturn from December 28, 2017 through the end of 2017.  I am well aware of the potential pitfalls of this transit. It could ignite my darkest desires or provide me with the stamina and patience to complete difficult tasks.  It is common knowledge that feelings of anger or resentment could be roaring out of the starting gate with this transit, but I hope that I will have the presence of mind to channel and transmute these feelings productively into positive achievements instead of getting mired in the destructive Scorpionic cycle of revenge.

But Mars in Scorpio will be making a marvelously beneficial conjunction to Jupiter in 17 degrees of Scorpio on January 6, 2018. Mars will get a real lift from hooking up with Jupiter in Scorpio and Jupiter will have more depth with the winning combination of desires (Mars) and faith (Jupiter).  I am sure everyone has noticed how many sexual secrets have been coming out since Jupiter entered the highly charged sex sign of Scorpio.  Mars joining Jupiter will amplify the emphasis on private matters that were unethical, abusive, illegal and unacceptable.

Mars conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio will be an opportune time to start anything that requires initiative, energy and courage.  Physical energy is augmented as is self-confidence. There is also strong potential for new relationships to occur because many will feel the need to literally get physical. This aspect is two degrees away from my sun and I am looking forward to this conjunction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t warn you about one thorny aspect that occurs on December 10, 2017.  Venus in 11 degrees of Sagittarius forms a challenging square with Neptune in 11 degrees of Pisces.  This can be pretty tough on love and finances because Neptune is notorious for bringing an unrealistic perspective.  But it does have an upside because it fuels imagination and bouts of heightened creativity.
