A Karmic Full Moon in Scorpio

The month of April is going out with a bang, courtesy of a powerful full moon in Scorpio on April 29, 2018 in 9 degrees of Scorpio.  This full moon is also sometimes referred to as the Buddha moon because Buddha was born on a full moon in the month of May.

I confess that being a Scorpio, it is not exactly one of my favorite full moons.  Scorpio by its very nature is highly emotional; that old phrase “still waters run deep” was probably inspired by a Scorpio, which is a water sign.  This is one full moon that really tends to push my buttons and I tend to start feeling its effects a few days prior to the actual full moon. The Scorpio moon also triggers feelings of distrust and judgmentalism could be rampant. I also think that this full moon has a great deal of significance because on many levels it should be marking some cycle of completion due to the fact that it squares the lunar eclipse of January 31, 2018 in 11 degrees of Leo.  Think back to what was going on in your life three months ago and reflect on what has changed since then.

Why do I describe this particular full moon as karmic?  The answer to that question is the nodes of the moon.  Both the sun in Taurus and the moon in Scorpio are forming challenging square aspects to the nodes of the moon.  The north node is in 10 degrees of Leo and the south node is in 10 degrees of Aquarius.  The north node of the moon represents our soul’s evolutionary path while the south node pertains to our past and the accompanying emotional traits.  The north node is literally stretching out of our comfort zone, while the south node is frequently referred to as the “path of least resistance” because it represents our default mode.  A full moon that squares the nodes of the moon challenges us to take a leap on our spiritual path and make some important decisions that will change our lives.  This can be a very enlightening time in our lives if we allow ourselves to take the high road of the north node in Leo by adopting a more playful approach to our problems and incorporating a more detached attitude, which is one of the more positive Aquarian traits.

Saturn in 9 degrees of Capricorn also features prominently in this full moon.  I know, Saturn is retrograde and Saturn has been dealing us some pretty heavy aspects lately, especially the recent square from Mercury in Aries on April 25th, which inspired me to tweet:
But on this full moon, Saturn in Capricorn is actually our friend.  The full moon in Scorpio forms a supportive sextile to Saturn in Capricorn, which can manifest in a host of delightful ways.  It can lend a note of stability because there are strong themes of steadiness, determination and the potential for success if we carry out our responsibilities with care and patience. It can also make us feel more protective and supportive of our partner and/or family.  This full moon can actually be an optimal time to share deeper emotions.  The sun in Taurus is also trining Saturn in Capricorn, which can help us act on making positive emotional changes and releasing old structures and habits that no longer serve our best interests.

I am definitely taking this full moon in Scorpio seriously because it is conjunct my natal Saturn in Scorpio and is also making favorable aspects to my nodes.  It is sextiling my north node in Capricorn in my third house, which transiting Saturn is conjunct these days and it is trining my south node in Cancer in my ninth house.  So I can’t seem to keep quiet about it, with all that emphasis on communication and educating people about astrology.  Obviously, I am such a firm believer in the power of astrology as a tool to transform and heal that I feel compelled to share it with the world. The only major area for concern for me personally with this full moon is that it squares my natal Mars in Aquarius in my 4th house.  Hopefully it will just serve as a motivational factor and not cause me to have some major emotional explosions.

If you are curious as to how all of the planetary changes, including eclipses, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn retrograde, Jupiter in Scorpio and Chiron in Aries will be affecting you in 2018, please consider getting an astrological reading.  A transit reading might be just what you need right now to make the most of Jupiter in Scorpio.  Jupiter transits are all about taking advantage of opportunities and if you snooze you lose with Jupiter.  You have to be aware and strike while the iron is hot. For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205.  I am also offering Reiki treatments in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline on Sunday afternoons.

Retrograde Season Gears Up with Saturn and Pluto as Chiron and the Sun Change Signs

Retrograde season is kicking up a notch this week.  Okay, Mercury stationed direct on April 15th, but Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn are joining the retrograde party with Jupiter in Scorpio. Saturn stationed retrograde in 9 degrees of Aries on April 17, 2018, inspiring me to tweet:

Saturn will be retrograde until September 6, 2018, when it stations direct in 2 degrees of Capricorn. Saturn retrograde is a time to sort out our karma and replace negative thoughts with positive ones.  Mercury in Aries was forming a challenging square with Saturn in Capricorn at the time of the station, so anyone who has been verbally abusing others will have a tough road ahead.  Saturn retrograde will force us to revamp our thoughts and communication styles as we rebuild our lives.

Chiron also entered the sign of Aries on April 17, 2018 and on that day I tweeted:
Chiron won’t be in the sign of Chiron for very long this year due to its retrograde which starts on July 4, 2018 (how fitting for a fire sign to station retrograde on Independence Day in the United States) in 2 degrees of Aries and it slips back into Pisces on September 25, 2018.  But it will return to stay in Aries for seven years on February 17, 2019.

What can we expect with Chiron in Aries?  Pardon the pun, but it will be a whole different kettle of fish from Chiron in Pisces.  Many of us felt like we were wallowing in our sense of victimization or martyrdom when Chiron was in Pisces. The prevailing sentiment of the Chiron in Pisces transit seemed to be that many people felt unloved or unappreciated and we were engaged in some very deep soul healing to heal those wounds. If we were smart, we learned to take care of ourselves and give ourselves the nurturing we felt wasn’t coming from others.  If we didn’t, we get another shot at healing this wound between September 2018 and February 2019. Chiron in Aries will force us to release wounds regarding self-worth because Aries is the “Who am I?” sign.  We will be fighting for our inner power and channeling that inner warrior because Aries is ruled by Mars.  Chiron in Aries will also be a time of breakthroughs in healing and technologies related to healing.

The last time Chiron was in Aries was from 1968 through 1977.  Ironically, Chiron was discovered in 1977.  That period in time was pretty turbulent in terms of the Vietnam War and the accompanying protests, increased drug use and more mothers working outside the home.  There was a strong theme of breaking free from the traditions of the past.  The generation born during these years will be experiencing their Chiron Return between now and 2027.  The Chiron Return happens around age 50 or 51 and can literally be described as a crisis of meaning.

Prior to that, Chiron was in Aries from 1918 to 1927, which coincided with the “Roaring Twenties”, another era of breaking free. Women got the right to vote and obtained more freedom from traditional roles.  But it was a very conflicted time in terms of issues regarding immigration, alcohol (Prohibition), religion and race. The point that I am trying to make is that history has demonstrated that when Chiron is in Aries, cultural and economic changes are front and center, which is frequently tough on children yet they learned to be resilient and carry on.  They were part of the “Greatest Generation” that survived the Great Depression and went on to fight World War 2.  History has some very interesting astrological parallels.  I am by no means predicting that we will have another Great Depression or World War, but I think it is safe to say that there will definitely be economic and cultural changes coming down the pike as we seek to break free yet again.

The sun entered the sign of Taurus on April 19, 2018, just one day after a conjunction between the sun and Uranus in Aries which generated a great deal of nervous tension and unpredictability.  The sun entering Taurus was a welcome breath of fresh air, as it ushers in a month of energy that is more practical and grounded with a strong focus on security needs.  We will be into our creature comforts for sure when the sun is in Taurus, one of the signs ruled by the planet Venus.  Just be mindful of the tendencies to be stubborn (remember that old phrase “stubborn as a bull”, the animal symbolizing Taurus) and possessive.  Taurus is one of the fixed signs and doesn’t welcome change easily, but it is adept at planting seeds for the future and staying the course.

Pluto will be stationing retrograde in 21 degrees of Capricorn on April 22, 2018 and will station direct in 18 degrees of Capricorn on September 30, 2018.  Pluto retrograde can be a time of rebirth and regeneration if you let go of what you don’t need. It’s actually a good time to deal with issues of power and control by reflecting on what or whom is controlling you and releasing them. The best way to navigate this transit is to trust in the process of change, because if you resist it, your life will become unbearably difficult.  And don’t think that just Capricorns will be affected by this Pluto retrograde transit.  If you have any planets between 18-21 degrees of the remaining cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer or Libra you will be experiencing a Pluto transit.  I have the distinct honor of having Pluto transiting my 4th house and opposing my midheaven in 20 degrees of Cancer during Pluto retrograde, so I am right in the transformational line of fire.

A Powerful New Moon in Aries and Mercury Goes Direct

Save the day of April 15, 2018 because we have two very major astrological events going down on that day.  Mercury stations direct in 4 degrees of Aries at 5:21 a.m. after a long, particularly grueling Mercury retrograde that officially began on March 22, 2018 when it stationed retrograde in 16 degrees of Aries. Of course, for those of us who believe in the shadow theory, Mercury began its trek into the retrograde shadow on March 9, 2018 and won’t totally clear it until May 3, 2018.  But at least April 15th marks the day when we can start to see some forward movement in communications.  I don’t think that I am exaggerating when I say there will be a collective sigh of relief heard around the world when Mercury starts moving forward again.  I personally have experienced a great deal of frustration during this Mercury retrograde and I have been hearing similar tales of woe from friends and clients.  Enough said.

The second major astrological event of April 15th is a powerful new moon in 26 degrees of Aries that occurs at 9:57 p.m.  In many ways, this is literally the first new moon of the astrological New Year because it is in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.  Aries loves to be first and take risks, which is a major theme of this new moon.  New moons are all about starting new things and a new moon in Aries signifies a time to create the changes in our lives that are sorely needed.  Aries is also ruled by Mars, which will give us the courage to make those changes and take some risks. It is a time to be assertive without being abrasive, which is not an easy feat to accomplish.

But this new moon in Aries is particularly powerful because it forms a challenging square to its ruling planet Mars in Capricorn.  This can play out in an assortment of bad behaviors: we can become defensive, argumentative, feisty, testy and throw tantrums and fits of rage if we are not mindful.

And this new moon is also squaring Pluto in Capricorn, which gives it an added punch.  Power struggles may arise and we may find ourselves dealing with obsessive and compulsive behavior in our relationships.  But this is not the first time this past week that Pluto has been under fire.  On April 11th, there was an exact square from the sun in Aries, inspiring me to tweet:
The Aries energy doesn’t stop with the aspects to Mars and Pluto in Capricorn.  On April 16th at 1:59 a.m., the Aries moon conjuncts Aries.  This is still technically a part of the new moon effect because obviously some parts of the world (including the west coast of the United States) will be feeling this energy on April 15th.  This is a lot of Aries energy: the sun, moon and Uranus all hanging tight together.  All I can say is that anything can happen with this kind of vibe.  Unexpected events and upheavals could be the way this new moon plays out, especially in the world arena.  Let’s hope it does not involve any acts of aggression that could involve violence on a large scale.

The degree of the new moon, 26 degrees, has me a little apprehensive because it forms exact aspects with a couple of my natal planets.  It does trine my Pluto in Leo in my 11th house, but even trines to Pluto can be tricky and dig up a lot of painful stuff regarding power issues.  Its opposition to my Neptune in Libra in my first house makes me wonder if I will be further adrift in a Neptunian fog or if I will be able to channel that energy into my work.  I have a pretty full schedule of Reiki clients on that day, so I am hoping to use that energy productively.

If you are curious as to how all of the planetary changes, including eclipses, Saturn in Capricorn, and Jupiter in Scorpio will be affecting you in 2018, please consider getting an astrological reading.  A transit reading might be just what you need right now to make the most of Jupiter in Scorpio.  Jupiter transits are all about taking advantage of opportunities and if you snooze you lose with Jupiter.  You have to be aware and strike while the iron is hot. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn Get Busy in April

Saturn and Pluto are both in the sign of Capricorn, but they are nowhere near being conjunct.   That astrological event occurs on January 12, 2020 in 22 degrees of Capricorn, but both planets have been very active this past week and will continue to aspect several other planets for a while.  I don’t exactly know why I started thinking so much about the Saturn Pluto conjunction when it is so far off, but I found myself reflecting on the last Saturn Pluto conjunction, which occurred on November 7, 1982 in 27 degrees of Libra.  It conjuncted my natal Neptune in Libra in my first house and was actually a boon for my work as a psychic, but it also played out as a time of recession in the world arena. Saturn and Pluto can definitely affect the financial climate, even if they aren't in the sign of Capricorn.  I also started pondering how the upcoming Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn would manifest.  The next Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn will be conjunct my natal Chiron in my fourth house and I confess that one has me a little nervous.  Pluto entered my fourth house in late January 2018 and it was not the smoothest entrance for this transit.

The year 2020 will see another presidential election and many believe that our government will undergo massive changes in that year.  There will be a great deal of Capricorn energy in play astrologically that year.  On April 5, 2020 Jupiter and Pluto will be conjunct in 24 degrees of Capricorn as well.

The themes of these two planets are pretty intense.  Pluto is all about death, power, transformation and it likes to slough off the old stuff and renew itself.  And then there is Saturn, aka the Great Taskmaster, which pertains to structure, discipline, responsibility, practicality and testing.  These two planets are hardly lightweights and when they interact with other planets it can be a heavy, intense time.

On April 2, 2018, Mars and Saturn were conjunct in 8 degrees of Capricorn, inspiring me to tweet:
But this aspect was conjunct my north node in my third house, so I suppose that explains why I am so obsessed and preoccupied with Capricorn energy these days.  I am definitely under the influence of Saturn these days.

On April 5, 2018, retrograde Mercury in 9 degrees of Aries squared Saturn in 9 degrees of Capricorn, which exacerbated the tendency towards angry and depressing communications.  I specifically mentioned the retrograde Mercury because I tweeted about it on April 4th when in reality it wasn’t exact until 4:22 a.m. on April 5th.  I have been experiencing my fair share of Mercury retrograde woes, including transit problems and missed connections with other people.

We do have a ray of light coming with Saturn in Capricorn, however.  On April 7th, Venus in 8 degrees of Taurus will trine Saturn in 9 degrees of Capricorn.  This should bring some measure of harmony to love and finances if we are willing to make an effort to dig deep to resolve issues and act in a more nurturing manner.

On April 8, 2018, the moon will conjunct Pluto in 21 degrees of Capricorn.  This is definitely not going to be an easygoing, flowing conjunction.  Be prepared for some deep rooted emotions and compulsive behavior to surface.

The Sun in 21 degrees of Aries will form a very challenging square to Pluto in 21 degrees of Capricorn on April 11, 2018. I have this aspect natally with my Scorpio sun squaring my Pluto in Leo so I know all too well how tough this aspect can be.  It provides a great deal of inner tension and is literally a struggle between the sun’s will to move forward and the Plutonian need to engage in negative, self-destructive behavior.  Issues of control and ego conflicts can be major factors with this aspect as well.  But there is tremendous power and strength with this aspect that can be harnessed and channeled into constructive and healing purposes if we are willing to confront our fears and our dark side in order to transform our own behavior.  Perhaps we will need to acknowledge that we are drawing upsetting situations into our lives because of our fears but we also need to honor the resilience we possess to overcome the obstacles in our path to move forward and be free of some of those compulsions of that darker side that we all have.  The promise of renewal and rebirth lie at the end of this tunnel process.
