The Month of October Begins with Venus Opposing Jupiter and Mercury Stationing Direct for a Fast Ride on the Change Train

 

All on board for the train to change that will be happening fast and furiously in the month of October and continuing throughout the rest of 2022.  It actually starts off with an exact opposition between Venus in Libra and Jupiter in 3 degrees of  Aries on October 1.  This aspect has a real party vibe and is characterized by a lack of self-discipline and motivation.  Overindulgence and excess are to be expected.  Venus and Jupiter are the planets considered to be the Benefics so it is not all bad when they interact.  Let's face it, it could be worse, as in Venus opposing Pluto.  Venus opposing Jupiter will enhance our love life because we tend to be more affectionate and playful, which is not a bad thing.  But with Jupiter involved, we just might find ourselves letting go of beliefs that are no longer serving our best interests in love and/or finances.

The best news arrives on October 2 when Mercury stations direct in 24 degrees of Virgo after having been retrograde since September 9.  This was one tricky Mercury retrograde, since it started in Libra and entered Virgo on September 23. Somehow the ones that occur in two signs tend to be more complicated.  I don't know about you, but I am thrilled that Mercury will finally be moving forward as I am exhausted by the communication snafus, delays and electrical malfunctions that have been transpiring.  

I also find it quite interesting that Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus are only 38 seconds apart from an exact square on October 2.  The Saturn-Uranus squares pretty much ruled 2021, falling on February 17, June 14 and December 24.  This aspect represents a clash between the old established structures (Saturn) and the progressive change that is clamoring to come forth.  I encourage everyone to reflect on what was happening in your lives back on those dates in 2021.  With Mercury stationing direct on October 2, I wouldn't be surprised if we learned something new or have a different perspective on the changes that are on the horizon.

On October 6, we have the third and final trine between Mercury in Virgo and Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn.  The first one occurred on August 22 when only Pluto was retrograde and the second one was more recent: it happened on September 27 with both of the planets retrograde.  Mercury and Pluto in a favorable aspect can bring deep reveals and it is quite empowering because we are more persuasive and influential.  It is an optimal time for research and engaging in therapy too. The third time could literally be the charm for clearing out negative energy and obsessions in our lives. There will undoubtedly be big news announced on this day.  And Pluto will be turning direct on October 8.  I will cover that more in next week's post.  But rest assured that the winds of change are definitely blowing...

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Busy Week Ahead as the Sun Moves into Cancer, Jupiter Stations Retrograde, Mercury Goes Direct and a Full Moon in Capricorn

 

Many of us are still reeling from the second Saturn-Uranus square on June 14^th, when I tweeted:

We have a tense day ahead today with Saturn in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus for the the 2nd time this year. It’s a battle between structure and change. Expect issues from February to resurface. #astrology

But we are nowhere near done with the effects of the Saturn-Uranus square or the intensity.  On June 20, we have two major astrological events coming up: the Sun enters Cancer for the Summer Solstice and Jupiter stations retrograde in 2 degrees of Pisces.  The Saturn-Uranus square will be set off again on the 20^th because the Moon is in 9 degrees of Scorpio, setting off a very tense T-square with Saturn in 12 degrees of Aquarius and Uranus in 13 degrees of Taurus. There is bound to be some rebellious energy on tap as the themes of control, freedom and truth are raised.  It promises to be  a deeply emotional day because we also have a Grand Water Trine involving the Moon in Scorpio, Jupiter in Pisces and the Sun in Cancer. What is the best way to cope with all of this water energy?  We need to face our deepest emotions and wishes, because Jupiter has a lot to do with our wishes and it is strong in Pisces.

We also need to remember that we will be feeling even more emotional when the Sun is in Cancer and feeling the effects of the Moon more acutely because the Moon rules Cancer. There will be more of a tendency to be self-protective and our focus will shift towards our home life and nurturing others.

Jupiter stations retrograde in 2 degrees of Pisces on the 20^th and slips back into Aquarius on July 28^th until December 28, 2021 when it moves back into Pisces.  Jupiter does station direct on October 17^th in 22 degrees of Aquarius.  When Jupiter is retrograde, it is characterized by a period of spiritual introspection and reflection.  This is indeed a time when you need to create your own luck and good fortune by fine-tuning your perspective.

On June 22, Mercury stations direct in 16 degrees of Gemini after having been retrograde since May 29^th.  I don’t know about you, but this has been one of the most frustrating Mercury retrogrades that I can recall.  I have had issues with my cell phone, Internet service, medical appointment scheduling and messages not being conveyed.  I suspect that one of the reasons is that Mercury was retrograde in its home sign of Gemini, which exacerbated issues like these.  It would probably be just as challenging when Mercury is retrograde in Virgo, the other sign that it rules.  Fortunately the next Mercury retrograde in 2021 will occur in late September in the sign of Libra.  But while we are heaving a collective sign of relief about Mercury being direct, I would like to caution everyone that Mercury does not clear its retrograde shadow until July 7, so please don’t expect everything to be back to normal with communication and transportation for a few days.  Whenever a planet is stationing either direct or retrograde, its power is magnified.  But there is light at the end of the tunnel…

The next major astrological event occurs on June 24 with the Full Moon in 3 degrees of Capricorn.  A Full Moon in Capricorn has themes of responsibility, order, structure and age-related concerns.  And it will require that we achieve some measure of balance with these themes and the need to nurture. Try focusing on resilience and inner authority during this Full Moon. Full Moons are a time of revelations, so be aware that more truths could be revealed, especially as a result of the recent Saturn-Uranus square.  Of course, emotional explosions are definitely possible with the Moon in Capricorn forming an irritating inconjunct with Mars in Leo. If we make adjustments or compromises, these can be avoided. The themes of closure and completion also pertain to Full Moons, so you might want to think back to the New Moon in Capricorn on January 13, 2021, to review any projects that you began back then.  Are they completed or is there is some sense of resolution?

There are some positive aspects going for us on this Full Moon.  Jupiter in Pisces is forming a supportive sextile to the Full Moon and it trines the Sun in Cancer.  This configuration is urging us to let go of the past and focus on the new. Try not to look back with regrets.  Relationship issues are bound to surface on this Full Moon with Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn opposing Venus in 26 degrees of Cancer.  This aspect could impact the sign of Cancer, especially if they are in a relationship that they think is too controlling.  They might opt to stay in the relationship out of their need for security. And Saturn in Aquarius is also forming a supportive sextile to Chiron in Aries on the 24^th, so it is possible for emotional healing to occur if we are willing to do the work.

A Full Moon in Taurus That Has a Trickster Quality and Mercury Stations Direct

 

The month of October started with a Full Moon in 9 degrees of Aries and it will end on October 31 with a Full Moon in 8 degrees of Taurus.  This means that on Halloween we have a Blue Moon, which simply means that we had two Full Moons in one month.  And that is bound to increase the emotional intensity.

Full Moons are inherently extremely emotional times that contain strong themes of closure and completion while revealing hidden facts.  A Full Moon in Taurus is associated with agriculture, money and sensuality.  It has a strong focus on relationships and with this Full Moon, we might find ourselves needing to release and let go of behavioral patterns that no longer serve our best interests.

The major issue with this Full Moon is that it is conjunct retrograde Uranus in 8 degrees of Taurus.  Talk about Trick or Treat!  This aspect alone is bound to be a game changer because emotional shocks, upheavals and disruptions are par for the course.  This is very eruptive energy and we will probably see more demands for freedom and rebellions.  Shocking events and news are also possible with this Full Moon.  The fact that this Full Moon is in Taurus could also deliver more earthquakes, volcanoes and extreme weather patterns. Since it is a Full Moon, it goes without saying that if the Moon is conjunct Uranus, the Sun in Scorpio is opposing Uranus.  We only experience one Sun-Uranus conjunction a year (thank God!) and this brings volatility and unexpected events to the fore.  Nervous energy will prevail, so don’t expect people to be acting rationally. 

The Full Moon in 8 degrees of Taurus is also widely inconjunct Venus in 4 degrees of Libra.  This contributes to the relationship drama because it will increase the need for love and affection while simultaneously increasing the tension.  It highlights the imbalance of emotional support and love.  Something’s gotta give to restore the balance; inconjuncts always require some measure of adjustment to get the two planets involved to coexist peacefully.  I also find it quite ironic that both Taurus and Libra are ruled by Libra and Venus just recently entered Libra on the 27^th of October, when I tweeted:

Changes in communications, love and finances are underway today as retrograde Mercury slips back into Libra and Venus moves into Libra. Venus rules Libra and is in its happy place as it seeks justice and balance. #astrology

The bottom line with this Full Moon is that the fixed signs of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius will feel it the most.  Fixed signs are the most resistant to change and a Full Moon conjunct Uranus screams change.  Taurus and Scorpio will face changes in relationships that come suddenly and need to be accepted.  Leo and Aquarius will be facing changes in the areas of home life and career.  All of the fixed signs will be craving the need for stability in these areas of life.

I am a big fan of Penny Thornton’s astrology videos on YouTube.  I watched her latest one on the Full Moon in Taurus and was blown away by her insight.  She commented on how when the Moon in Taurus conjuncted Uranus in Taurus on the 23^rd of April  President Trump issued a press conference extolling the virtues of bleach and how the upcoming warm weather would wipe out the virus.  Obviously none of this was true, but the fact that the Full Moon on October 31 features a conjunction to Uranus again underscores the fact that the Coronavirus will be a major issue in the Presidential election on November 3.  She also pointed out that President Trump contracted the virus during the previous Full Moon on the 1^st of October.  Food for thought in terms of closure, completion and revelation, n’est pas?

Now on to Mercury stationing direct on the 3^rd of November.  I don’t know about any of you, but it has been a particularly grueling Mercury Retrograde for me personally.  Mercury stationed retrograde in 11 degrees of Scorpio on the 13^th of October and it was one degree away from my Saturn in 12 degrees of Scorpio at the end of my 1^st house.  Ouch!  I have experienced mega-delays and frustrations with the Internet and my website not accepting payments for readings.  When Mercury stations direct in 25 degrees of Libra on the 3^rd, it will be one degree away from my Neptune in 26 degrees of Libra in my 1^st house conjunct my Libra ascendant. It’s not particularly easy having both Saturn and Neptune in the 1^st house but I suppose I should be grateful that Saturn in my 1^st house has somewhat of a grounding influence, despite the fact that it doesn’t exactly make me a free spirit. Yes, this Mercury Retrograde has had a huge impact on me and I will heave a huge sigh of relief when it is over and it clears its retrograde shadow on the 19^th of November.

In many ways it is rather chilling and ironic that Mercury is stationing direct on the day of the United States Presidential Election.  It’s common knowledge that a planet’s power is intensified whenever it stations direct or retrograde.  Who could forget the chaos that ensued in the 2000 Presidential Election when Mercury stationed retrograde in 29 degrees of Libra?  I think it is fair to surmise that we can expect technical difficulties with the Internet and the voting process for this election.  Mercury may be stationing direct instead of retrograde, but there is still a very strong likelihood of delayed results and social unrest.

When Mercury stations direct in Libra, it will be squaring the triumvirate of planets in Capricorn.  Mercury squaring Pluto can play out in extreme or brutal tactics.  Mercury squaring Saturn will create a somber atmosphere, rigid and pessimistic thinking and communications as well as increasing the potential for a hold-up in determining the results. And don’t forget that Mercury in Libra will also be squaring Jupiter in Capricorn, which can manifest in errors of judgment and legal difficulties.

Mars Enters Scorpio and Mercury Stations Direct

The sun may be winding down its transit in Scorpio, but there is still plenty of Scorpio energy influencing us.  We had a major belt of it earlier this week with the Sun Mercury conjunction in Scorpio on November 11, 2019 and the Full Moon in Taurus on November 12, 2019.  These aspects inspired me to tweet:

We have a rare Mercury transit today with a sun Mercury conjunction in Scorpio. Mercury is actually visible for 5 hours as a black dot across the sun. But Mercury retrograde could bring more misunderstandings and crises. #astrology

We have an extremely powerful #FullMoon in Taurus today that opposes retrograde Mercury in Scorpio increasing the likelihood of deep secrets being revealed. But the moon trining both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn help us transform. #astrology

But the strongest Scorpio energy is yet to come.  On November 19, 2019 Mars enters the sign of Scorpio until January 3, 2020.  Mars is very strong and potent in the sign of Scorpio and in the sign of Aries, the two signs it rules.  Until Pluto was discovered, Mars was deemed to be the ruler of Scorpio.  When Mars is transiting Scorpio, we have the ability to act on our deepest desires.  We are more driven and focused on getting what we want.  It bears repeating that Scorpio is fixed water, so we have more tenacity and perseverance when Mars is in Scorpio.  In fact, we may be attracted to crisis because we perceive it as transformative and emotionally exciting as we find it easier to work through difficult challenges.  Don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving extreme emotions during this transit.

When Mars is in Scorpio we have no fear of confronting the darker side of life and it’s a perfect time for psychological self-examination.  A strong sense of purpose prevails while Mars is in Scorpio.  Mars transiting Scorpio also holds the potential for helping us to develop our personal power if we can avoid the pitfalls of power struggles, revenge, resentment and an inability to forgive. These pitfalls represent the shadow side of Scorpio, so we will need to be mindful or we could wind up expressing unrelenting aggressiveness and anger.  While Mars in Scorpio is definitely more direct and assertive than Mars in Libra (where it has been since October 4, 2019), there is also a tendency to be manipulative and act in a passive-aggressive manner with Mars in Scorpio.  I’m just warning you about yet another potential pitfall that could exist with Mars in Scorpio.

Mars will be in Scorpio throughout the holidays and during the last eclipse of 2019 on December 26, 2019 in 4 degrees of Capricorn.  The year 2020 will start with Mars in 28 degrees of Scorpio and that will be hitting my chart in terms of conjuncting my Venus in Scorpio, trining my Uranus and Jupiter in Cancer and squaring my Pluto in Leo.  I sense that there will be plenty of action for me to start the year 2020.

On the following day, November 20, 2019 Mercury stations direct in 11 degrees of Scorpio, which should bring a collective sigh of relief around the world.  Communications should start returning to normal but please be mindful of the fact that Mercury doesn’t officially clear its retrograde shadow until December 7, 2019 in 27 degrees of Scorpio.  This means that Mercury will not be operating at full speed until December but we should all notice some improvement when it stations direct.

When a planet stations retrograde or direct, its influence is stronger than normal.  On November 20, 2019 the moon in Virgo is favorably sextiling Mercury in Scorpio, which encourages us to talk about family and relationship problems.  I don’t know about you, but I have found that this Mercury retrograde was particularly frustrating.  It conjuncted most of my Scorpio planets, squared my Mars in Aquarius and opposed my Pluto in Leo. I will definitely be relieved to see Mercury moving forward.

July Ends with a Bang as Venus Enters Leo and Mercury Stations Direct on the Leo New Moon

The month of July is ending with a bang as Venus enters Leo on July 27, 2019, and the Leo energy is ramped up with a second new moon in July in 8 degrees of Leo on July 31, 2019.  The first new moon in July occurred on July 2, 2019 in 10 degrees of Cancer and packed the additional wallop of being a solar eclipse. Two new moons in a month are rare, and the term for this occurrence is a Black Moon.  We all know that when we have two full moons in a month it’s called a Blue Moon, which denotes the rarity of it happening.  But we also have Mercury stationing direct in 24 degrees of Cancer on July 31^st as well.

Venus enters Leo on July 27, 2019 and stays in Venus until August 21, 2019.  The transit of Venus in Leo is generally a pretty upbeat time.  We are inclined to feel more warmhearted, generous, and extravagant as we take pride in love.  It can be a time when we crave being the center of attention and want adoration.  But its shadow side can include dramatic outbursts, so be mindful of that.

New moons are traditionally all about new beginnings and setting new intentions.  So July 2019 is a pretty special month because we have two opportunities to set new intentions.  It’s important to note what house in your chart this new moon is falling in to determine where you should be setting new intentions.  The first new moon/solar eclipse in Cancer on July 2^nd fell in my 9^th house conjunct my south node and I experienced a legal challenge that I managed to prevail in.  But this new moon in 8 degrees of Leo falls in my 10^th house and is squaring my natal Saturn in Scorpio in my 1^st house.  I am inclined to think that I will be setting my intentions regarding my career but I will need to be thorough, responsible and careful with that square to my Saturn.  In other words, I shouldn’t try to engage in any shortcuts.

What is the astrological backdrop of this new moon in Leo?  Well, for starters, we are dealing with the lineup of Saturn, Pluto and the south node in Capricorn which is heading towards that major conjunction of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn in January 2020.  Pluto in Capricorn is deconstructing old systems of power in government and chaos could ensue.  On July 29, 2019, Uranus in 6 degrees of Taurus will be forming a challenging square with the Sun in 6 degrees of Leo, which can bring unease and uncertainty regarding our leaders. Don’t forget that Leo is symbolic of leadership. We are still under the influence of the ongoing square between Jupiter in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces that has been around since the beginning of 2019 and will be felt until October 2019.  This aspect can bring spiritual inspiration. But this Leo new moon is also sweetly trining Jupiter in 14 degrees of Sagittarius, which can help mitigate any damage from that Sun/Uranus square. 

Jupiter in Sagittarius, despite being retrograde, has been bestowing us favors recently.  On July 23, 2019 Jupiter was featured prominently in a Grand Fire Trine involving Mars in Leo and the moon in Aries.  On that day I tweeted:

And on July 25, 2019, we experienced the second trine of the year between Mars and Jupiter, which was the proverbial green light to pursue our dreams.  It inspired me to tweet:

Mars in Leo trining Jupiter in Sagittarius today is a very lucky and expansive aspect that gives us a second shot at success with new endeavors. The 1st time we had this aspect was in late January. Be sure to act on it. #astrology

We get another hit of that Sun/Uranus square on August 2, 2019 when Uranus also squares Venus in 6 degrees of Leo, which might have more of an impact on relationships and finances. The sun and Venus in Leo tend to create a more social and creative vibe, as well as triggering a desire for leadership.  The shadow side of all this Leo energy is a tendency towards overconfidence and impulsiveness.

The brightest and most celebratory note of this new moon in Leo on July 31^st is the fact that Mercury stations direct in 24 degrees of Cancer at 11:58 p.m. on the east coast of the United States.  What a collective sigh of relief will be heard then! This Mercury retrograde has been in my 10^th house, and I will be SO RELIEVED to see Mercury station direct.  I have experienced quite a siege of scheduling snafus with my clients in the past few weeks in terms of missed communications and appointments. Mercury in Cancer will also be conjunct the north node in Cancer on the day of the new moon, which can be a boon for working towards more compassion and empathy.  The north node represents our collective soul’s path for growth.  The bottom line is that if you have any planets in 22-26 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you will feel activated to get on this soul growth train.

Mercury will re-enter Leo on August 11, 2019 and will clear its retrograde shadow on August 15, 2019.  But we can definitely expect to feel some relief in terms of delays, communication and transportation snafus when Mercury stations direct as these problems start fading away.
