Gemini New Moon with Venus and Mercury on the Move

The new moon in 7 degrees of Gemini on May 28th was the astrological focal point of the week for most of us.  In many ways, it was a very complicated new moon that had ties to the legendary Venus transit of 2012 which culminated with Venus resuming direct motion on June 28, 2012 in 7 degrees of Gemini.  The theme of that extended Venus transit two years ago was creative transformation.  I don’t know about you, but I am facing some of the same issues that I faced two years ago with that transit.  I am still trying to reinvent myself and dealing with some painful emotional issues and wounds that need to be healed.  Michael Lutin sagely pointed out that in his weekly message of May 26, 2014 that a direct Mars in Libra was reawakening not only the Venus transit of 2012 but also the major conjunction of Mars, Saturn and Pluto in Libra in the early 1980’s.  Mars in Libra was also trining that sun and moon this week.

A really big piece of this new moon was the fact that both the sun and moon squared Neptune.  It inspired me to tweet on the 28th that “New Moon in Gemini squaring Neptune.  Escapist urges best satisfied thru meditation to let information flow.”  The themes of this new moon were rife with dispelling mental trances while not setting anything in stone, deception, illusion, new perspectives, multi-tasking (that ubiquitous word that permeates our lives), mental rebooting, an impulse to learn new things, swift and exciting changes and having fun by attending a light soiree.  I confess that I meditated earlier in the day alone and attended a customer appreciation reception for a local shop that was being sold as the owners prepared to move to California. Yes, the wine and hors d’oeuvres were delicious, the resident dog was adorable and we got first crack at the discounts on the merchandise in the store two days before the general public.

Venus changed signs on May 28th and moved into Taurus, where it is infinitely more comfortable than in the sometimes impetuous sign of Aries.  Venus rules Taurus and Libra, two signs that are noted for their love of the good life.  On May 29th I tweeted that “Venus is now in pleasure loving Taurus and we should feel free to indulge ourselves.  Seek out security in finances and relationships.”
Mercury figured prominently in this new moon as well. Mercury in Gemini sextiled Venus in Aries on the 28th, before they both changed signs and that was definitely a boost to communication in relationships.

Mercury entered the shadow period of its upcoming retrograde on May 23rd at 24 degrees of Gemini.  The Venus transit of 2012 featured Venus stationing retrograde at 23 degrees of Gemini on May 16, 2012.  So we are definitely not done with the theme of creative transformation by a long shot.  Mercury entered the emotional water sign of Cancer on May 29th and it will remain in Cancer until June 16th.  Mercury’s entry into Cancer prompted me to tweet “Prepare for communication to become more emotional today as Mercury enters Cancer, where it retrogrades on June 7th. “Mercury officially goes retrograde in 3 degrees of Cancer on June 7th, retrogrades into Gemini, resumes direct motion in 24 degrees of Gemini on July 1st and finally leaves the shadow when it hits 3 degrees of Cancer on July 16th.  The 29th was an energetic day for me as it was my monthly lunar return with that Gemini moon in my 8th house spurring my intuition as I did my Reiki work in the clinic.  I was also blessed with Jupiter entering my 10th house that day.  In addition to working with some Reiki clients, I also got news this week that I would be able to list my services a Reiki practitioner on the Reiki Rays website.  You can find it at:

The moon enters the sign of Cancer at 10:13 a.m. on May 30th and it will conjunct Mercury and trine Neptune in Pisces.  Enjoy that water energy this weekend!

Mars Direct and Grand Water Trine

Personally, this week has revolved around two major astrological aspects for me: Mars stationing direct in 9 degrees of Libra on May 19th and the Grand Water Trines involving initially the moon in Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Scorpio on May 22nd and the upcoming grand trine on May 24th involving Chiron in Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Scorpio.  If this sounds heavy and intense, believe me it was.

Mars has been retrograde in Libra since March 1st and in its journey from 28 degrees to 9 degrees it has traveled from my first house to my 12th house. Now we all know that Mars is definitely not comfortable in Libra and a retrograde Mars is not exactly a boon to accomplishing our goals. But having it in your 12th house is literally a double whammy. I am very impatient for Mars to enter my 1st house, but I will have to wait until June 26th for that to occur. But at least Mars is in motion, be it ever so slowly. Mars stationing direct did prompt me to tweet on the 19th that: "Mars going direct today may temporarily exacerbate feelings of frustrations and impatience but progress is imminent."  I really want to believe that, let me tell you!

Mars has also been squaring my nodes, which has definitely amped up the frustration level.  Who likes to feel stuck?  I know that when planets transit the nodes change is necessary due to the challenges they present in the form of a square. But since patience is not my strong point with my natal Mars squaring both my Sun and Saturn, there is a big part of me wants to scream, "enough already!" The bottom line is that even though Mars is direct, I am fully aware that it will probably be a week or two before real movement is evident. My business is really slow, despite the fact that I have been making major investments in time and money to promote myself.  Granted, I could just be feeling the effects of transiting Saturn in Scorpio on my Sun forcing me to be responsible and do the work, but it does get tiring.

What will happen when we can actually feel Mars in action? Plenty! For starters, from mid to late June, Mars will be in the middle degrees of Libra activating the infamous Uranus Pluto square that none of us can escape. On a personal level, it will also cross my ascendant and activate my grand air trine to my moon and Mars. Will I finally experience relief and be inundated with new Reiki and astrology clients? It's certainly something to aspire to. I'll keep plugging away and have faith that I will reap the benefits of my efforts to communicate with the masses.

But when all else fails me, I do try to fall back on that grand water trine.  My chart is basically water and air, so water is my comfort zone.  My Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Pallas and Ceres are in Scorpio and my Jupiter, Uranus, Vesta and south node are in Cancer. The first one this week occurred on May 22, 2014 with the Pisces moon trining Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Scorpio.  It inspired me on that day to tweet that “Pisces moon trining Jupiter in Cancer today brings big dreams, enthusiasm and ability to see the big picture.  But don’t expect it all at once.”

On May 24, 2014, we will experience the Grand Water Trine with Chiron in Pisces, Saturn in Scorpio and Jupiter in Cancer.  I like to call it the Power of Three.  Saturn is still retrograde until July 20th, when it finally stations direct at 16 degrees of Scorpio.  Chiron in Pisces represents healing and magic, Jupiter in Cancer hope, luck and money and Saturn in Scorpio represents work, power and money.  It is somewhat reminiscent of that fabled Grand Water Trine involving Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces in 4 degrees of those respective signs back on July 17, 2013.  That was an incredibly peaceful, spiritual day for me last summer that I thoroughly enjoyed.  This time around, Chiron in Pisces is substituting for Neptune, and I truly believe that Chiron will be extremely beneficial in helping us to heal those emotional wounds, even if we do need to experience some pain in facing them.  Saturn and Jupiter are not exactly on the same wavelength and tend to make strange bedfellows, but it helps that they are trining each other by leveling the playing field.  Saturn in Scorpio trining Jupiter in Cancer will give us access to realism and optimism and Saturn’s trine to Chiron will assist in weeding out emotional patterns that interfere with our ambitions and prevent us from moving on.

I am also eagerly anticipating Jupiter’s entry into my 10th house on May 29, 2014.  Jupiter hasn’t been in my 10th house since early December, so this is a big event for me as I approach my Jupiter Return in mid-July 2014.  I had some good financial news back then and I hope for a reoccurrence, albeit in a somewhat different form.

Full Moon in Scorpio and Venus in Aries as a Key Player

We had a much ballyhooed full moon in 24 degrees of Scorpio on Wednesday, May 14th.  It garnered a lot of press because it was conjunct Saturn in Scorpio, whose theme song is grace under pressure. And that full moon conjunct Saturn gave us a reality check regarding what is holding us back. It was intensely personal for me because that full moon was conjunct my 2nd house Venus and transiting Saturn is still conjuncting my sun.

There was a ray of light with this full moon in the form of a grand water trine. The full moon in Scorpio trined Jupiter in Cancer and Chiron in Pisces. It inspired me to tweet:
"Potential for healing in relationships today with moon Trining Chiron and Jupiter. Lots of water energy." Surprisingly, this was my most popular tweet of the week on Twitter.  On a personal level, this manifested for me by allowing me to compassionately set a boundary with a friend who was requesting free astrological advice while I was working on a client's chart. I was elated that she was not offended because I have never been good at setting boundaries; I either gave in and seethed with resentment or bluntly told the person off.  So I regard that as a healing opportunity to transform my negative Scorpio traits into more compassionate Cancer and Pisces ones. I ditched the sarcasm and resentment and embraced the traits of being compassionate yet was able to set a boundary. I'll savor my victories when I find them.

But Venus in Aries has been a key player this week, especially during the full moon.  How could it not be in the sign of Aries, still in the crossfire of the recent Grand Cardinal Cross?  On the day of the full moon, Venus squared Pluto in Capricorn.  This aspect prompted me to tweet: “Venus square Pluto today calls for us to let go of our obsessions and transform relationships with influence of full moon.”   I have a natal Venus Pluto square, so I am very familiar with the nature of this energy.  Obsession rules with this aspect.  It played out in a very unusual way for me—I became obsessed with solving a computer related issue on my tablet and I wound up spending more hours on it than I cared to.  It isn’t resolved yet, but my obsessive research led me to some potential solutions that I hope to implement in the near future.   I am still not clear how this full moon will play out for me regarding relationships,  but I do know that there are imminent financial changes for me in the near future with my Venus in the second house. I trust that more will be revealed in the coming days.  I went to my weekly meditation group that night and the minister who usually leads it was not present.  Mercury was up to its trickster antics that night when the CD started skipping and breaking up during the meditation, but I still managed to have a relatively peaceful meditation.  I did experience a sense of my deceased parents and grandparents surrounding me with love during the meditation, so it was definitely not a bad experience.  Did I mention that transiting Mercury in Gemini was conjuncting my natal moon in the 8th house?  I shouldn’t have been surprised to feel their presence. A full moon in Scorpio is an intense emotional experience, no doubt about it.

On Thursday, May 15th, Venus conjuncted Uranus in Aries.  I sensed that this could definitely open doors for new, unconventional ways of relating.  Elizabeth Taylor had Venus conjunct Uranus in Aries and she certainly had an unconventional love life. Mercury in Gemini was sextiling both Venus and Gemini, so communication was definitely a major theme. Unfortunately for me, my communications were feeling the ill effects of this transit when my computer froze after some Windows updates.   The moon also entered the sign of Sagittarius that day and squared Neptune in Pisces, which may have obscured reality somewhat with the mutable energy of these two planets and a tendency to view things with rose colored glasses.  But I think that most people experienced a feeling of relief when the moon entered the sign of Sagittarius after having been in intense Scorpio since Monday night.

On Friday, May 16th Venus is trining that moon in Sagittarius.  This is a great way to start the weekend and enjoy nurturing, relaxing activities.  I am getting my hair done and I think that is an optimal use of this transit.  On Sunday, May 18th Venus in Aries will be squaring Jupiter in Cancer.  Normally squares are considered to be challenging, but with these two planets involved, the worst case scenarios would include excessive optimism, overindulging, overspending, exaggerating our feelings and feeling lazy.  There could be far worse ways to spend a Sunday.

Mercury on the Move and Health News

Mercury changed signs this week and moved into Gemini on May 7th, prompting me to tweet that “Mercury enters Gemini today and words could literally be flying out of our mouths before we know it.”
I was surprised to see the reaction on Twitter-272 views, six retweets and three favorites.  There was definitely a shift in the energy and obviously people were feeling it.

Mercury has been doing some pretty strange things this week and it almost feels like a Mercury retrograde.  On May 6th I had difficulty accessing my hotmail account on Outlook when Mercury was ending its run in Taurus.  I was forced to change my password, and my cell phone took on a life of its own by incessantly beeping that sign-in failed whenever a new message arrived.  I finally had to remove the account on my cell phone and tablet and then reinstate it on both.  In the meantime I wasted precious hours chatting with both Microsoft and Samsung, both of whom blamed each other for the problem.  Microsoft said it was a problem with my phone and Samsung said it was a server problem.  A friend told me that she also experienced difficulties accessing the Internet on May 7th.  On May 8th I received an email from astrologer Pam Younghans apologizing for the URL about a teleclass she was holding on June 12th not showing up.  Even she said that “And Mercury isn’t even retrograde…”

Mercury doesn’t go retrograde until June 7th in 3 degrees of Cancer, but by now we all know that Mercury’s entrance into the shadow period can really be felt strongly.  Mark your calendars, folks, because Mercury enters the shadow period on May 23rd at 24 degrees of Gemini.  Mercury resumes direct motion on July 1st at 24 degrees of Gemini.  All I can say is that if we are feeling these effects now, this could be a very intense Mercury retrograde in June.

It seems that Mercury in Gemini has been delivering lots of news about health related issues.  The eclipses that we had on April 15th and 29th certainly did their part to bring health problems to light.  Astrologer Susan Miller became ill on April 10th from an intestinal illness that required Cipro and two biopsies.  Trooper that she is, she still managed to get out her May monthly forecasts.  Best wishes to her for a full and speedy recovery.

On May 7th Valerie Harper was in the news again when she testified before the Senate urging them to commit more funding to lung cancer research and treatments.  She argued that the stigma of lung cancer being associated with smoking should be abolished.  Valerie was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago and she never even smoked.  Many people who get lung cancer never smoked.  Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve’s widow comes to mind.  She died in 2006 from lung cancer.

Last year Valerie Harper was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer and given three months to live.  Today she talks to her cancer, engages in visualization exercises, has acupuncture regularly and takes traditional Chinese medicine tea.  She is determined to see her 75th birthday on August 22nd.  She is really an inspiration and has taught us all a valuable lesson about living in the moment.

Saturn in Scorpio also has a lot to do with health issues.  I am still feeling the effects of Saturn on my Sun and I can vouch that it is not a fun transit.  It makes you tired, work hard and prone to depression.  Thank God you get only get this transit every 29 years!  I recall having some health issues 29 years ago with an abnormal pap smear, so this is not a fluke.  On May 8th I received a much appreciated email from a friend with a helpful article on breast cancer detection which reinforced my feeling that mammograms are not that safe due to the radiation involved (not to mention the pain) and that digital infrared thermography might be safer and more effective.  Of course ultrasounds and other digital techniques cost more than mammograms.  Naturally, I attribute this welcome news to Mercury in Gemini.

Saturn is by no means through with us, however.  On May 10th, Saturn in Scorpio will be opposing the Sun in Taurus, so it can bring up some intense relationship issues and feel quite heavy.  The moon does enter Libra on May 10th, but on Mother’s Day, May 11th, the moon in Libra will be opposing Venus in Aries, conjuncting Mars in Libra, opposing Uranus in Aries, and squaring Pluto in Capricorn.  Mars in Libra will also be opposing Venus that day, so it may not be the most peaceful, loving Mother’s Day.  Some stress is to be expected thanks to Saturn and all of this cardinal action.

This is the last week that I am offering a Mother’s Day Special promotion with a 20% discount on all of my astrological services.  If you are looking for a unique gift to give your mother this year, or to nurture yourself while the sun is still in Taurus, consider an astrology reading or a Reiki treatment, which is a wonderfully relaxing, stress relieving experience.   And with the planetary action we will be facing this weekend, stress relief is a welcome gift.
