Saturn in Sagittarius for Three Years

It's official, folks and quite fitting, I might add, that Saturn entered the sign of Sagittarius in time for Christmas. It entered Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, the planet of luck, growth, expansion and limitlessness at 11:33 a.m. on December 23rd. On that day I tweeted:

"Christmas comes early today as #Saturn enters Sagittarius. A day of rejoicing worldwide as #Scorpios feel lighter and freer."

Astrologer Jessica Adams brilliantly captured the feeling when she tweeted on Christmas Day:

"Astrology! Saturn leaves Scorpio and solutions and healing experiences emerge. One frozen department of your horoscope is thawing."

Saturn will remain in the sign of Sagittarius until December 19, 2017, with the exception of its brief retrograde foray back into Scorpio from June 14th through September 17, 2015. I'm not that worried, however, because Saturn will only be revisiting the last two degrees of Scorpio, as I truly believe that most Scorpios have learned some hard lessons in the past three years and won't be adversely affected  by that transit.

Saturn in Sagittarius feels infinitely lighter than Saturn in Scorpio. It is the mutable fire sign following the deep fixed water of Scorpio. Sagittarius is the sign of luck and Saturn is the planet relating to work and is also known as the Great Teacher. On the surface, this combination may seem incongruous. How are these two strange bedfellows going to play together? I believe that the lessons to be learned from Saturn in Sagittarius will be associated with the nature of excess. Saturn in Sagittarius is also about living authentically. Sagittarius is renowned for its love of honesty. I predict that we can expect more of a focus on truth, our belief system and attitude, as well as knowledge, wisdom and education, all of which are Sagittarian issues. And Saturn in Sagittarius will bring changes in education, even more religious and  political scandals (no escaping that one, folks, especially with the 2016 election) and the potential for more Internet threats.

So the bottom line is that we literally have Jupiter, the planet I like to refer to as Santa Claus and the ruler of Sagittarius, playing in the sandbox with Saturn, which I have frequently referred to as the astrological counterpart of Scrooge. Sorry, but I couldn't resist the analogy to the Christmas season. As a Scorpio, I am positively giddy with the shift in energy that I have detected since December 23rd. Maybe I am overindulging in excessive optimism, but I am going to ride this pony for as long as I can. The year 2014 was extremely difficult and challenging for many folks, so I say let's grab the brass ring that Saturn in Sagittarius promises for 2015 and beyond.

I hope that everyone experienced a joyous, Merry Christmas. Change of Seasons - The Winter Solstice and a Sign Change for Saturn

Once again, folks, there are big things happening astrologically this week. Many of us are still recovering from the recent Uranus Pluto square on December 15th (I know I am), but on December 21st, the Sun and moon move into the sign of Capricorn for a new moon that marks the Winter Solstice and the official beginning of winter. Adding to the mix is the fact that Uranus stations direct at 12 degrees of Aries. Could there be a possibility for things to calm down?

As someone who has Uranus retrograde natally, I am usually quite comfortable with Uranus retrograde, but even I have to confess that the past couple of weeks have been uber frenetic and I am looking forward to a little more stability.

Enter the season of Capricorn. On December 21st, the sun and moon join Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn. This heralds a more serious tone signaling a time to rest and reflect. It is also a perfect time to set plans and intentions and create goals for the new year. On December 20th, Venus conjuncts Pluto, deepening connections and memories of emotional loss. But on the 21st, the day of the winter solstice, Venus in Capricorn sextiles Chiron in Pisces, so there is room and the opportunity for healing of those painful emotions. That winter solstice creates a healing space for light to shine on those wounds. Bring it on! Mercury will be conjunct Pluto in Capricorn on Christmas Day as well as sextiling Chiron in Pisces, so don't count out a Merry Christmas full of honest, compassionate communication.

But as a true Scorpio, I can think of yet another important reason that Christmas 2014 will be a Merry Christmas. Drum roll, please - Saturn enters the sign of Sagittarius on December 23rd! I'd wager that Scorpios are rejoicing about this across the world after the past two and a half years!

There is definitely a chance for new possibilities with Saturn in the sign of Sagittarius because it is ruled by Jupiter, whose expansive nature tends to lighten up Saturn's restrictive energy. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto, which tends to create a lot of drama and sturm and drang. And it is no cosmic accident that Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is changing signs when the sun is in Capricorn.

As Saturn completes its transit through the last degree of Scorpio, a lot of dark thoughts rise up from the depths so that we can release our worst fears. It's important to remember that becoming conscious of our worst fears doesn't necessarily mean that they are real; it makes infinitely much more sense to interpret them as manifestations of our worst nightmares.

I love what Michael Lutin said earlier this week in his Week in Review section on his site:

about Saturn leaving Scorpio:

"The departure of Saturn from Scorpio can be that ecstatic moment after a bout with constipation. Everything that has been stuffed inside mercifully comes out. It is a time of healing. The process, however, demands that all the darkest material is also released. Relationships always pass through the MOST scary crisis, mainly because in a couple or partnership or even friend/colleague situation, much time is spent AVOIDING REAL ISSUES and discussing movies, politics, family or everything EXCEPT the real dynamics driving you apart and keeping you from being close. Now only reality is possible."

So could the departing gift of Saturn in Scorpio be reality, an entrance into the light  and the new possibilities that Saturn in Sagittarius will make us work for? Time will tell.

Uranus Square Pluto - Take 6 of the Revolution

Brace yourself, folks. The sixth of seven Uranus in Aries Pluto in Capricorn squares will be exact on December 15, 2014 in 12 degrees of each sign. Anyone with cardinal sign planets (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) between 10-16 degrees will feel its impact, especially in the area of relationships. This is definitely going to be a game changer because Uranus represents revolution and sudden change while Pluto represents transformation. But Pluto in Capricorn is still clinging to its conservative roots while trying to maintain its power base. I loved the way astrologer Georgia Nicols described the Uranus Pluto squares as "Between 2012 and 2015, these two planets bang heads seven times."

Some of us may have already felt its influence on December 8th when the Cancer moon opposed Pluto in Capricorn and squared Uranus in Aries. I would wager that many of us might have had some old insecurities triggered as a prelude to the December 15th face-off.

Revolutions are indeed taking place around us. Racial violence and campus demonstrations against rape are rampant. I really feel like I am being transported back to the 1960's when I was growing up watching race riots and campus demonstrations on TV. And this is no accident- back in 1965-66, Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Virgo. Whenever these two planets tangle, upheaval is sure to follow.

History was always one of my favorite subjects and I decided to look at the Uranus Pluto square through the lens of history. The last time we experienced a Uranus Pluto square was back in 1932-34. Ironically, Uranus was in Aries back then, but Pluto was in the sign of Cancer and had just been recently discovered as a planet. What was going on back then? Plenty-the Great Depression and the rise of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini. Personally, I have been saying for the past three years that Uranus in Aries was partially responsible for the economic instability that has been raging and history bears an astrological link to prove  that. Our current economic downturn actually began in 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn. And the battle rages to preserve the wealth of the haves while the rest of us feel adrift in an economic tsunami. But in the 1930's when Pluto was in Cancer, there was more of a struggle to hold the family together in tough economic times. At least this is what I remember my astrology teacher telling me in class. She was a member of the Pluto in Cancer generation and told us it was it was quite a battle to keep the family (a Cancer ruled sign) together during the Depression. Her students back then in the 1980's were comprised of those born with Pluto in Cancer, Leo and Virgo and she definitely could discern the difference between the generations!

I was blown away by Michael Lutin's comparison of the current Uranus Pluto square to the Uranus Pluto conjunction back in 1965-66 on December 10th on his site www.michaellutin.com.  He said:

"We are now at the juncture of that conjunction Uranus square Pluto. The notion of a better society is being severely challenged."

Michael Lutin also captured the feeling and mood of the Uranus Pluto square with the following lines:

"It's scary to go where you don't know where you're going or how to get there."

"Severance from the expected path is an excruciating, mystifying and terrifying possibility until you accept the fact that you must move forward and now go where you have never gone before."

The bottom line is that we need to accept that there are long-term trends and changes occurring. The wisest course of action is to accept the instability and create a p!an to improve your life by releasing whatever isn't working. The Uranus Pluto square is a call to action to make core changes in your life. Upheaval can bring fast healing.

I speak from experience as the first four squares aspected the nodes of my moon (Capricorn and Cancer) in the third and ninth houses. Believe me, you can't ignore Pluto on your north node! The last three squares aspect my Libra ascendant, so I won't be able to resist their call for change, either!

If you have any doubts that the Uranus Pluto square will affect relationships, consider this. Venus in Capricorn will conjunct Pluto on December 20th to deepen and transform relationships and Mercury in Capricorn will join Pluto on Christmas to open up the lines of communication.

Fire Trines, Full Moon in Gemini and Mars and Venus on the Move

This week is seeing quite the mixed bag of astrological activity. The prelude to the full moon in 14 degrees of Gemini on December 6th (exactly conjunct my natal moon in the 8th house I might add) kicked off with a series of fire trines that began on December 1st. On December 1st, the Sun in Sagittarius trined the moon in Aries, which also trined Mercury in Sagittarius. Is it any wonder that they called it Cyber Monday?

On Tuesday, December 2nd that Aries moon trined Venus in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Leo, inspiring me to tweet:

"Aries moon trining Venus in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Leo today lends a feel good, expansive somewhat indulgent vibe."

I guess it was no accident that many retailers extended Cyber Monday to Tuesday with a grand fire trine going on!

Our next hit of the fire trines occurred on Thursday, December 4th when the Sun in Sagittarius trined Uranus in Aries. On that day I tweeted:

"Sagittarius Sun Trining Uranus in Aries today encourages us to take risks. Gotta love that impulsive fire energy!"

I have a trine from the Sun in Scorpio to Uranus in Cancer in my chart, so I can relate to that aspect. My trine is in water signs, so it tends to play out more in terms of my taking risks by trusting my intuition and emotions to implement change.

We also experienced a glorious trine from Venus in Sagittarius to Jupiter in Leo on December 4th, which inspired me to tweet:

"Venus in Sagittarius trining Jupiter in Leo today pages the way for more love and faith in the changes that are coming."

Venus trining Jupiter is another aspect that I know well because I have it natally in water signs. I must confess that it plays out for me with a love of beautiful possessions. I swear that it infused a shopping gene into my DNA!  But the bottom line is that this aspect has a strong predisposition towards receiving gifts, if one makes the space in their life and is open to receiving.

On December 5th, Uranus in Aries trined Mercury in Sagittarius. True to its Uranian nature, this aspect is very liberating because it allows us to break free of our limiting thoughts. It definitely got a boost from Mars entering the sign of Aquarius on December 4th, where it will reside until January 12, 2015.

Mars in Aquarius is something else that I am extremely familiar with because I have it natally. Mars in Aquarius inspires erratic energy, new adventures and helps us break free of whatever is limiting us. I can personally attest to the fact that having Mars in Aquarius literally causes you to march to the beat of a different drummer. Is it any wonder that on December 4th I tweeted:

"Mars enters freedom loving Aquarius tonight until January 12th. All modes of communication are energized and electrified."

The full moon occurs at 7:27 a.m. on December 6th in 14 degrees of Gemini. Since Gemini is the symbol of duality, no other sign can bring logic to the energies of insight and illusion in such a powerful way. I think that I can be pretty safe in predicting that there will be an enhanced emphasis on communication during this full moon. We should be able to determine what needs to be sorted out of our life as a result of this full moon. As I said earlier, this full moon is exactly conjunct my moon in the 8th house, so I am definitely anticipating some changes in my financial status. This full moon is also trining my Mars in Aquarius and my Libra ascendant, thus activating my grand air trine. I fully expect lots of activity and renewed energy as a result of this full moon.

Another potent theme of this full moon is the potential for healing. Chiron in Pisces is squared by this full moon, which is also a transit that I am currently undergoing. Addressing and releasing old wounds has been a pivotal theme in my life and this transit will continue for me through February 2015.

Indeed, Chiron has been a major player in my chart. I have always identified with the wounded healer persona. I even offer an astrological reading devoted to Chiron. You can see a sample of my own Chiron Report at this link:

In keeping with the healing theme of Chiron's interaction with this full moon, I would like to remind you of my Reiki Holiday Promotion:

We have two more planets on the move this coming week. Jupiter will station retrograde at 22 degrees of Leo on December 8th, causing us to rethink our plans and values for the next few months. And Venus will enter the sign of Capricorn on December 10th to help us find more meaning in our relationships. It's also a more practical time to engage in some Christmas shopping if you were afraid of blowing too much money while Venus was in Sagittarius, as is often the case.
