A Powerful New Moon in Cancer, the Nodes Move into Aries and Libra and Mars Opposes Saturn

 

The month of July is really heating up in more ways than one.  Many people have commented recently that it feels like eclipse energy despite the fact that the next round of eclipses isn't due until October.  There is a very good reason for this: we have a New Moon in 24 degrees of Cancer on July 17 and the Nodes of the Moon are changing signs on the same day.  They are moving from Taurus and Scorpio to Aries and Libra.  The Nodes are not planets, but they are points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects the ecliptic and will affect the eclipses for the next 18 months.  And they move backwards, so on July 17, the North Node will move into 29 degrees of Aries while the South Node will enter 29 degrees of Libra.  

The Nodes of the Moon operate on an 18.6-year cycle, which means that the last time they were in these signs was from December 26, 2004 through June 20, 2006.  You might find it helpful to think back to this period in your life, as similar issues could re-emerge.  The North Node will remain in Aries and the South Node in Libra until late January 2025.  

The North Node in Aries is calling for us to stretch out of our comfort zone and flex our muscles to find our inner authority, independence and power.  Aries is a cardinal fire sign that is fearless about moving forward, which is a big change from the fixed earth sign of Taurus that is slower and more methodical about building roots for the future.  The South Node in Libra represents karmic baggage that we need to shed to move forward in our collective destiny.  When the South Node is in Libra, we need to release the need to be people pleasers and over-compromise. It's time to ditch any codependent traits that are not serving you well. This nodal shift requires us to find our voice and express ourselves authentically.  The North Node in Aries will be transiting my 7th house and the South Node in Libra will be in my 1st house, so I have no doubt that it will impact my relationships.  The house placement of the Nodes is a good indicator of where things will change for you.  If you have your Sun at the end of Aries, the North Node in Aries will feel very karmic as it connects with your Sun and things start happening. The New Moon in 24 degrees of Cancer is exact at 2:32 p.m. on July 17.  It has a very inspirational and creative vibe because is also trining Neptune in 27 degrees of Pisces.  New Moons are a perfect time to set new intentions by trusting our intentions.  The Moon rules the sign of Cancer, so it is right at home and we could find it easier to trust our emotions.  The New Moon is also forming a supportive sextile to Uranus in 22 degrees of Taurus, making it easier for us to implement change in a different way. Uranus in Taurus is trining Pluto in Capricorn and sextiling Neptune in Pisces, so there is a very powerful spiritual component that assists us with our path of transformation.  But we also need to realize that the New Moon in Cancer is also opposing Pluto in Capricorn, activating the themes of death and rebirth. Pluto in Capricorn is also inconjunct Venus in Leo, which can bring some abrupt changes in wealth, passion or cause intense jealousy if we don't make some course corrections.  Pluto aspecting Neptune and Venus create a Finger of God configuration, which can be very karmic. Pluto in Capricorn is very active in this New Moon, because it is also squaring the nodal axis and will continue to square the Nodes until November 2023.  Watch the dates of July 22, 25 and 28 because the squares will be exact on those days.  

The New Moon in Cancer is involved in a Cardinal Grand Cross with the Nodes of the Moon in Aries and Libra, and Pluto in Capricorn.  I sense that there will be strong themes of nurturing, emotional security and a focus on protecting loved ones during this New Moon.  Mercury in Leo is also squaring Jupiter in 12 degrees of Taurus on the New Moon, which can bring optimism and a view of the big picture.  But we need to be mindful of the tendency to be too cocky, arrogant or promise more than we can deliver because this aspect doesn't favor paying attention to details.

On July 20, Mars in Virgo will be opposing Saturn in 6 degrees of Pisces.  I am not going to sugar coat this one, folks, because it involves endings and themes of pushing and withholding.  Saturn in Pisces can feel downright depressing and Mars in Virgo can be hyper and frenetic.  Challenging Mars-Saturn aspects are never fun but they can be productive in terms of focused and detailed work that demands caution and patience.  Otherwise, we could find ourselves dealing with a problem that has no apparent solution or we could feel like we have one foot on the accelerator and the other foot on the brake.  It can be a frustrating day, and frustration is something that Mars and Saturn combined do together.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Neptune Stations Retrograde, Venus Enters Leo and Mars and Saturn Face Off

 

The month of June is proving to be quite momentous with all of the planetary activity and it ain’t over yet.  Jupiter stationed retrograde on the day the Sun also entered Cancer, inspiring me to tweet:

Jupiter stations retrograde in Pisces today before moving back into Aquarius at the end of July. It’s a time for soul searching and expanding our consciousness. It’s much easier than Mercury retrograde! #astrology

And of course, Mercury stationed direct (FINALLY) on June 22, although it doesn’t clear its retrograde shadow until July 7. But relief is in sight…

Next up is Neptune stationing retrograde in 23 degrees of Pisces on June 25.  Neptune is retrograde until December 1, 2021 when it stations direct in 20 degrees of Pisces.  Like Jupiter retrograde, this transit is not such a bad thing.  Neptune is associated with disillusionment, escapism, deception and dreams.  When Neptune is retrograde, our illusions can be stripped away and we can be taking off the rose-colored glasses.  As someone with a strong natal Neptune (in my first house conjunct my Mercury) I prefer to think of it as the Reality Bites transit. It offers us the opportunity to re-evaluate what’s important to us, what is real and do instead of dream.  Neptune retrograde can also reveal the pain that we have been trying to escape.  Like the Jupiter retrograde transit, it can be a very spiritual time that expands our consciousness by exposing our doubts and confusion.  The veil is lifted so to speak.

Venus is getting ready for a major attitude adjustment in the area of love.  On June 27 it leaves the cardinal water sign of Cancer for the fixed fire sign of Leo.  Venus remains in Leo until July 21.  Venus in Leo is all about fun, excitement, romance and drama.  Pride and passion rule and we can be quite generous with money. Don’t forget that Venus also governs money.  Be prepared to see lots of PDA’s because shows of public affection are part and parcel of Venus in Leo.  Just be mindful of the shadow side of Venus in Leo: it craves attention and adoration and is prone to arrogance.  But it can definitely bring some joy into our lives and we can all use that.

On July 1, Mars in Leo is in exact opposition to Saturn in 12 degrees of Aquarius.  Many of us have been feeling the effects already.  There is no sugar-coating this aspect; it brings frustration, disappointment and anger.  There can be difficulty in expressing anger, especially if you feel personally attacked.  And with Mars in Leo, it’s definitely personal. Watch out for bullying too. It can also indicate that you just might be your own worst enemy at this time.

Try to engage in some physical activity or exercise to release the frustration that Mars opposing Saturn creates.  Self-discipline, patience and determination are the tools we need to cope with this aspect.  The bottom line with Mars-Saturn aspects is that they have a way of making us work hard.  I know this from personal experience because I have my natal Mars in Aquarius squaring my natal Saturn in Scorpio.  Nothing comes easy for me and I have had to utilize every shred of self-discipline and determination that I have while developing patience (still a work in progress) to make any kind of progress in terms of achieving my goals.   And my Mars-Saturn square is being activated by this aspect.  Mars in Leo is in my 10^th house opposing my Mars in my 4^th house and squaring my Saturn in the 1^st house while Saturn in Aquarius is right on my Mars. 

Mars opposing Saturn requires us to find some balance between aggression and apathy because we will probably feel thwarted by authority figures. Saturn has a tendency towards depression which can lead to lethargy.  It’s also important to acknowledge the stabilizing effect that Saturn has, despite its bad rep for limiting and constraining us.  Saturn is the Great Teacher, but it also rewards us when we work hard.

Showdown as Mars Opposes Saturn and Hope with a Taurus New Moon

Mars entered Gemini on May 11^th.  On that day I tweeted:

“Prepare for diversity and less focus in how we go about our activities as Mars enters Gemini today.  We may have too many choices.”

Let’s face it, Gemini loves variety and considers it the spice of life. Mars has a major face-off with Saturn in Sagittarius on May 15^th in two degrees of each sign.  When Mars and Saturn are in challenging aspect to each other, it is not a pretty sight.  Mars opposing Saturn is a stormy aspect regarding boundaries and limitations of our personal and collective limitations.  Our thinking, as represented by Gemini, needs to align with Sagittarian ideals. This aspect forces a major reality check and clashes with authority are to be expected. Don’t initiate any conflicts if you can help it, because you will probably lose.  It has a strong theme of frustrated action and energy levels may feel restricted.  After all, Saturn is all about restrictions and limitations, as well as teaching us valuable lessons.  A stop-start kind of feeling is very common with this aspect.  Especially with Saturn in Sagittarius, this aspect could play out with some rather sticky international standoffs and implications.

We also have Mercury in Gemini entering its official retrograde period on May 18^th, the day of the Taurus new moon.  Mercury in Gemini coupled with Mars in Gemini is bound to bring some tension filled communications and actions. Mercury entered its shadow retrograde period on May 4^th, so some of us may be feeling the retrograde effects already.  On May 12^th, I tweeted:

“It’s going to be a fasten your seat belt bumpy ride kind of Mercury retrograde. Feeling the effects already.”

This tweet was inspired by the Pisces moon conjunction to Neptune on that day, which held the potential for either enlightenment or escapism.  That’s the way Neptune plays, especially when the moon is in the sign Neptune rules. 

The bottom line with Mars opposing Saturn is that we will probably all feel some level of discomfort and struggle in some area of our lives.  My natal Mars in Aquarius squares my Saturn in Scorpio, so I am all too familiar with this energy.  I could never in all honesty say that my life has been easy because whatever I have achieved in my life has come through hard work.  Saturn challenging Mars makes you work for what you want in life; there is no free pass.

While we do have Mercury stationing retrograde in 13 degrees of Gemini on May 18^th, we also have a beautiful new moon in 27 degrees of Taurus on the same day.  How cool is that?  Taurus is ruled by the sign Venus, so this new moon is an optimal time to nurture yourself, be kind to yourself, surround yourself with beauty and plan for wealth.  Remember that Taurus is the sign of the bull.  Taurus is renowned for its determination, persistence and patience because it is a fixed sign.  It is a time to build solid foundations. Be smart and cultivate that Taurean energy before the Sun enters Gemini on May 21^st.

The Taurus New Moon will fall in my 8^th house and oppose my Venus in Scorpio in the 2^nd house while squaring my Pluto in Leo in the 11^th house.  I have no doubt that issues of finances and power will arise.  I will probably need to release some ideas that are no longer serving me well to make room for more viable concepts.  My goals may change and I wouldn’t be surprised if my friendships and group associations undergo some changes as well.  Time will tell.
