A Potent Full Moon in Libra and Venus Goes Direct

 

The month of April is definitely kicking into high gear after a brief respite last week that featured Saturn and Mars sextiling Uranus in Taurus and Mars in Cancer trining Saturn in Pisces.  And Mercury stationed direct in 26 degrees of Pisces on April 7, which was cause for celebration.  Just be mindful that it might take a little while for us to fully feel like Mercury is direct as it clears its retrograde shadow, which will happen on April 25, 2025 when it hits 9 degrees of Aries.  Mercury will enter Aries on April 16 and Mercury is much more comfortable and direct (pardon the pun) in the sign of Aries.

On April 12, we have a powerful Full Moon in 23 degrees of Libra.  This Full Moon features a T-square involving the Sun in 23 degrees of Aries, the Moon in 23 degrees of Libra and Mars in 27 degrees of Cancer.  T-squares cause tension, friction, and confrontations but they do have a way of motivating us to make changes.  Mars in 27 degrees of Cancer is also widely opposing Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius, which raises the ante for potential brute force to emerge.

Healing is a major theme of this Full Moon in Libra due to Chiron's presence.  Chiron is in 23 degrees of Aries exactly conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon in Libra.  This is bound to bring awareness of old fears, wounds and insecurities.  We are offered the opportunity to step out of our victimhood and move into authority as we heal that wound.  People who were born during 1974-1975 are undergoing their Chiron Return, so they will feel this Full Moon quite acutely.

There is also an extremely karmic note to this Full Moon because it also features a Yod.  A Yod occurs when two planets or points sextile each other while being inconjunct a third planet. Sometimes a Yod is referred to as the Finger of God. So, yes fated events can happen. Venus in 24 degrees of Pisces sextiles Uranus in 25 degrees of Taurus and they are both inconjunct the Moon in 23 degrees of Libra.  We could quite literally experience a spiritual awakening with this Full Moon in Libra.  Venus is also conjunct the North Node in 26 degrees of Pisces, further underscoring the karmic theme.  A Full Moon in Libra is also associated with unconditional love, but we need to be careful not to give too much to others.  Libra does have a tendency to be a people pleaser.  Social justice can also be a major theme of this Full Moon.

Venus sextiling Uranus can see us craving more fun and excitement in our social life, while creating opportunities for new friends and lovers to come into our lives.  It can also spur our creativity because Venus is exalted in Pisces. Venus is also conjunct Saturn in 25 degrees of Pisces and that aspect was exact on April 7, which probably served to provide major reality checks in love and finances.

The most positive feature of this Full Moon in Libra is the fact that Venus is stationing direct in 24 degrees of Pisces at 9:02 p.m.  Venus stationed retrograde on March 1 in 10 degrees of Aries, so it has been a long siege.  Venus also rules Libra (as well as Taurus), so relationships are going to feel the effects of this Full Moon in a big way.  Venus will move back into Aries on April 30 and will officially clear its retrograde shadow on May 15 when it hits 10 degrees of Aries.  So we should start to see some relief in love and finances within the next few weeks.  I am one of the rare 7% of the population born with Venus retrograde, but I am not always that comfortable during a Venus retrograde transit.  Some are easier than others for me, but this one was not so easy.  It was complicated because it occurred in two signs: Aries and Pisces.  Venus is considered to be in detriment in Aries (a fancy way of saying it is not comfortable) while it is exalted in Pisces.  Venus was previously in Pisces in a direct motion from January 2 through February 4, 2025, so I suppose we should be grateful that we will get another shot at experiencing the benefits of Venus direct in Pisces again.  Venus was retrograde in Pisces from March 27 through April 7, 2025.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Chiron in Aries Continues to be a Major Player in the Astrological Landscape

There is no ignoring Chiron in Aries these days.  We had a Total Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Aries on April 8 that was exactly conjunct Chiron.  On that day I posted:

What is the big deal with Chiron?  In addition to being known as the Wounded Healer, Chiron was a wise centaur who was a mentor for others but was also wounded due to the fact that he was born half-man and half-horse.  His wound occurred because his mother abandoned him at birth. His initial wound was rejection, but Apollo adopted him and taught him prophecy and poetry. Apollo gave him the chance to integrate the gap between nature and spirit.  In order to experience a Chironic healing we must reconcile what is unacceptable or incompatible within ourselves.  The reconciliation becomes our unique advantage and greatest gift.  

Martin Lass wrote a brilliant book called Chiron Healing Body and Soul that I highly recommend.  He also has a very profound statement in the book: "The gift is in the wound."  The bottom line is that the wound is the key to something greater and the gift it holds.

I have a very prominent and active Chiron in my chart; it is in my 4th house in Capricorn and opposes my Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house while squaring my Neptune in Libra in my 1st house.  It also sextiles my Sun and Venus in Scorpio in my 2nd house, so being a healer was definitely in the cards for me.

If you are interested in a Chiron-themed movie, I urge you to see The King's Speech, which was made in 2010 and won Oscars for Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.  Colin Firth starred as Prince Albert who ascended to become King George VI when his brother abdicated, but his wound was his stammer.  His wife Elizabeth (who later became the Queen Mother) hired an Australian actor and speech therapist to help him overcome his stammer so that he could become King.  This was a time when public speaking, especially on the radio, was a crucial part of the job of a monarch.  As an astrologer, I found it supremely ironic that Colin Firth was actually undergoing his Chiron Return (which occurs for everyone around age 50) when he made the film.

How is Chiron in Aries still active?  On April 12, the Moon in Gemini is forming a supportive sextile to Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries.  This increases the potential for healing and growth by working through insecurities and past emotional wounds.  The sextile can actually attract people and opportunities that provide us with more security by putting our wounds into perspective.  That Gemini Moon is also sextiling Mercury in Aries which can help us communicate our feelings and needs.

On April 15, we have two more Chiron aspects.  The Moon in Cancer squares Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries, and this can play out as a compulsion to deal with those insecurities and wounds in new ways.  Squares are challenging aspects and we are being asked to stretch out of our comfort zone. Our intuition and desire for security are in conflict with current circumstances and we can be experiencing restless nagging feelings that something needs to be settled.

Retrograde Mercury is conjunct Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries on April 15 as well. This represents an opportunity to take a look at our wounds. Mercury conjunct Chiron means that words, thoughts and memories will trigger our old wounds and hurts.  We get to acknowledge our primal wound of inadequacy.  We could find ourselves remembering hurtful things said to us by parents, siblings, teachers or peers.  And we can't forget that since Mercury is retrograde, the past will be dredged up.  That is one of the functions of Mercury retrograde, forcing us to review the past.

Where does 19 degrees of Aries fall in your chart?  This is where the action and hopefully the healing will occur in the coming week.  After that, we have the Sun entering Taurus on April 19, a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus on the 20th and a Full Moon in Scorpio on April 23.  More to come on these events in next week's post.

Aries Season Ramps Up as Venus Enters Aries and a Total Solar Eclipse in Aries

 

We are deep in the heart of Aries season, and if you aren't already feeling it with the Sun and Mercury retrograde in Aries, fasten your seatbelt because on April 5, Venus will leave the dreamy and placid water sign of Pisces to move into Aries until April 29.  When Venus is in Aries, love is more spontaneous, direct, and bold.  We are drawn to the thrill of the chase as passion and ardor take center stage.  And we can become impatient much more easily.

Venus in Aries will sextile Pluto in Aquarius on April 6.  Isn't it funny how all of these planets are meeting up with Pluto in Aquarius these days?  Venus sextiling Pluto is a quite a bit easier to take than a square, opposition or inconjunct, but it will still definitely deepen and intensity love.  Obsession is possible too, because that is the way these two planets act when they get together.  Existing relationships can take on a more profound level and our spirituality can be heightened.

The next big hit of Aries energy occurs on April 8 with the Total Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Aries.  This is really a major astrological event; we haven't had a total solar eclipse since August 21, 2017 in 29 degrees of Leo.  If you are old enough to remember, think back to April 8, 2005 because we had a Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Aries on that day.  Some of the same issues could be triggered for you.

Solar Eclipses are like New Moons on steroids and their effects can be felt for up to three months before and up to one year after they occur.  A Solar Eclipse in Aries has strong themes of new beginnings, claiming our inner authority, embarking on new adventures and finding the courage to take risks while being in the moment. Chiron is in 19 degrees of Aries on the Solar Eclipse, so it is exactly conjunct the Sun and Moon, which makes it a major player.  We could develop a major awareness of our wounds and victim consciousness, especially with retrograde Mercury in 25 degrees of Aries so close to the eclipse.  Mercury retrograde does have a way of making us review old stuff.  I don't particularly enjoy mentioning this, but Chiron in Aries also has a way of bringing gun violence: both Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy were killed when Chiron was in Aries in 1968.  Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, which does have a lot to do with aggression.  This is just a cautionary note that with Mercury and Chiron in the mix for the eclipse, we could hear some news about violence.  I certainly hope that it doesn't happen, but we might need to be prepared for anything.

Obviously this eclipse will impact everyone, but who will feel it the most?  If you have any cardinal planets or points (Ascendant, Midheaven, Imum Coeli, and Nodes of the Moon) in 16-22 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you are going to feel this one big time.  Once again, I am right in the line of astrological fire.  My Ascendant is in 16 degrees of Libra, my Imum Coeli (cusp of the 4th house) is in 19 degrees of Capricorn and my Midheaven is in 19 degrees of Cancer.  Astrologer Jessica Adams has even said that if you have anything in your chart at 19 degrees, your chart will be activated by this eclipse.  And in addition to my cardinal placements, my Sun is in 19 degrees of Scorpio.  What is the best way to cope with all of this astrological intensity generated during the eclipse?  I tend to agree with Jessica that if you have do have planets or points activated on the Solar Eclipse, try not to make any major decisions on that day until more is revealed.  And let's face it, eclipses have a way of delivering big reveals.  The day of April 8 should be a newsworthy day, to say the least.

On April 10, Mars and Saturn are conjunct in 14 degrees of Pisces.  Normally we don't associate good times when Mars and Saturn are aligning and some might even interpret a conjunction in Pisces as indicators of military action at sea.  But we can always take the high road and utilize this configuration to apply it to a disciplined spiritual practice.  I would definitely like to sign up for that interpretation.

The Sun and Mercury will be conjunct on April 11 in 22 degrees of Aries.  Despite Mercury being retrograde, this aspect should generate lots of communication, mental alertness, curiosity and adaptability. Big ideas could be flowing on this day.

In the meantime, hang in there with this Mercury retrograde until April 25 (it's been quite crazy so far) and ride the wave of intensity that the month of April is delivering.

A Super New Moon in Capricorn, Chiron Direct and Mercury Retrograde

 

We have two momentous events occurring on December 23, 2022.  The main event is a Super New Moon in 1 degree of Capricorn.  It packs quite a wallop and is a Super New Moon because the Moon is so close to the earth.  It will be very powerful because there are five planets in Capricorn: the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury and Pluto in Capricorn.  New Moons are traditionally times of new beginnings, but when you have five planets in the practical earth sign of Capricorn, we have more power to build a productive future.

The New Moon in 1 degree of Capricorn is also forming a square to Jupiter in 0 degrees of Aries.  I don't know about you, but I certainly felt a major shift when Jupiter entered Aries on December 20, inspiring me to tweet:

There is a major theme of fresh starts, growth, hope for the future and the potential for inflation.  It is definitely a feel-good vibe, but it can also have a tendency to be over the top and cause us to overextend ourselves.  I encourage all of you to think back to June 2010 and January 2011 when Jupiter was also transiting Aries.  I know that Jupiter was briefly transiting the sign of Aries from May 10 through October 28 of this year, but I really don't recall feeling that surge of energy back then. Jupiter only made it to 8 degrees of Aries until it retrograded on July 28, but this time it will zip through Aries until it enters Taurus on May 16, 2023.

Another aspect that Jupiter in Aries makes on the New Moon is a semi-square to Uranus in 15 degrees of Taurus.  Semi-squares occur when two planets or points are 45 degrees apart.  This aspect can trigger some sudden breakthroughs.  I wouldn't be surprised if there was a great deal of surprising announcements coming out on this day.

Chiron is also stationing direct in 11 degrees of Aries on December 23.  Chiron is known as the Wounded Healer and has been retrograde since July 19 in 16 degrees of Aries.  The Moon in Capricorn will be squaring Chiron in Aries at 9:42 p.m. on the 23rd, which can bring up some old emotional wounds for healing. Our wounds are more clearly evident and we can take steps to heal them now.  So it is quite fitting that Chiron is stationing direct on a New Moon. The power for healing is stronger.

Mercury will be stationing retrograde in 24 degrees of Capricorn on December 29, 2022.  Mercury will be retrograde until January 18, 2023, when it stations direct in 8 degrees of Capricorn.  This one is extremely personal for me because it stations retrograde on my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4th house and stations direct on my North Node in Capricorn in my 3rd house.

This particular Mercury retrograde will undoubtedly affect travel plans for the holidays, especially with the weather playing such a huge factor.  We are anticipating extreme cold and storms for Christmas on the east coast of the United States.  But a Mercury retrograde in Capricorn can also cause us to review our plans for the future and perhaps reformulate them.  Never forget the "re" in retrogrades!  

The Moon is moving into Aries on December 29 and will conjunct Jupiter in Aries, which can give our hopes for the future a voice.  Mercury is also conjunct Venus in Capricorn after it retrogrades, so don't be surprised if there is more communication in relationships and about finances.  Mercury and Venus have been traveling together for some time, but now that Mercury is retrograde, they are starting to separate and Venus will enter Aquarius on January 2, 2023.  More on that next week...

What does the astrological landscape look like on Christmas Day?  The Moon enters Aquarius on December 25 and forms a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Aries, which should put us in a festive mood.  It is also trining Mars in Gemini, so hopefully we can all get along on this holiday. The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. The Sun Enters Pisces, Chiron Enters Aries and a Full Moon in Virgo

We are facing another week of big astrological changes.  Just two days ago we had a major conjunction between Mars and Uranus in Aries, inspiring me to tweet:

We are dealing with some very aggressive and erratic energy today as Mars and Uranus are conjunct in 29 degrees of Aries. It’s quite literally a critical point and anything can happen so be mindful and careful. #astrology

I sense that we will be experiencing the repercussions of this energy for a few more days.  On Valentine’s Day, Mars moved into the Venus ruled sign of Taurus, which can lend a note of stability to relationships and hopefully ensure that we act in a more reasonable and less impulsive manner.

But mark your calendars for February 18, 2019 because we have two major astrological events occurring.  The Sun enters the mutable water sign of Pisces and Chiron enters Aries until 2027. I confess that the transit of the sun in Pisces is one of my favorite times of year, being a fellow water sign.  The energy becomes much softer and more compassionate with a focus on forgiveness, letting go, acceptance and heightened creativity and imagination.  Feel free to indulge in meditation and enjoying a bit of fantasy. But be careful not to get caught up in that shadow side of Pisces that also embraces self-pity, addiction and feelings of victimization.  That fish can swim in two directions and you want to be sure that you are headed upstream as much as possible.

But the really major transit of February 18, 2019 is Chiron entering Aries until 2027.  Of course Chiron was briefly in Aries from late April through late September 2018.  It never got past two degrees of Aries but now it is here to stay in Aries for eight years.  Chiron is all about healing and with it moving from Pisces to Aries the focus shifts from healing our spiritual self to healing our ego and sense of self.

When Chiron is in Aries we will be more aggressive and quick moving as we seek to find our inner power and reclaim our inner warrior. But we will also be confronting some pretty deep wounds to our identity.  Chiron in Aries can also help us reveal where our fear of conflict keeps us stuck in self-destructive patterns.  Alternative methods of healing will be emphasized and we might find ourselves taking more responsibility for our health. Chiron will be transiting my 6^th house for the first half of its transit in Aries, so I know that this will have a huge impact in my life.  If Chiron in Aries is transiting your sun, it can be a time of great physical healing.  Conversely, if Chiron is aspecting your ascendant, it can be a time fraught with hurt coming from others and you might choose to move on to a different group of friends.

Chiron has a pretty long cycle, given that most people are around the age of 50 when they experience their Chiron Return, unlike the Saturn Return, which occurs at age 29.  The last time that Chiron was in Aries was in 1968 and that was a pivotal time of change in this country and around the world.  Chiron in Aries literally screams “I am, I need to exist and be recognized.” So you can expect that this transit will involve healing that wound of identity and self- expression.

On February 19, 2019 we have a Full Moon in 0 degrees of Virgo.  This is also a Supermoon because it is 15% closer to the earth and larger than the regular full moon.  A supermoon can also increase the likelihood of high tides, earthquakes and tsunamis.  If you have trouble sleeping around this full moon, chalk it up to the effects of recent Mars Uranus conjunction in Aries on February 13^th. 

Full moons are also about closure and completion and this one is no exception.  We could very well be ending a major episode in life and about to enter a new one.  A full moon in Virgo will contain themes of efficiency, natural forms of healing, and practical solutions to problems.  Virgo is ruled by Mercury and ironically on February 19^th, Mercury in 16 degrees of Pisces enters the shadow period of its upcoming retrograde, which officially commences on March 5, 2019.  The best course of action under this full moon is to focus on the details and complete tasks at hand rather than launching new endeavors.  And be mindful of the fact that Virgo has a tendency to be critical, so watch that negative thinking.

Mercury in Pisces is also conjunct Neptune in 15 degrees of Pisces on the full moon and this will be a boon for creativity.  We may experience feelings of infinite possibilities and high ideals.  I have a natal Mercury Neptune conjunction, so I know how this feels.  It may require a reality check with all of this mutable energy.  But we do have Mars in 3 degrees of Taurus trining that full moon which can definitely support breakthroughs in relationships.
