August Goes Out with a Bang as Mars Enters Libra, Uranus Goes Retrograde and a Second Full Moon in Pisces

 

The month of August is on its way out and like many people, I could not be happier about it.  It started with a Full Moon in Aquarius on August 1, featured a New Moon in Leo on the 16th that felt for all the world like a Full Moon and ushered in a Mercury retrograde on the 23rd on the same day as the Sun entering Virgo.  On that day I posted on Twitter (I still can't bring myself to call it X):

#MercuryRetrograde officially starts today in the sign of Virgo. Aside from the usual communication and transportation snafus, it provides opportunities to declutter and resolve health problems. #astrology

But wait, there is more.  Save the day of August 27 because there is more planetary action afoot.  The Sun in Virgo will be opposing Saturn in 3 degrees of Pisces, for starters.  This aspect will deliver a reality check and challenge us to make some kind of decision. The Sun and Saturn were conjunct in 27 degrees of Aquarius on February 16, 2023, so I encourage you to think back to what was transpiring in your life then.  Something you did back then might not be working right now, so it could be time to discard it.  The Sun in Virgo is very practical and likes to fix things.

Mars will also be leaving the sign of Virgo and entering the cardinal air sign of Libra on August 27, where it stays until October 12.  Mars is considered to be in detriment in Libra, so it will have some challenges in this sign.  Mars is the planet that represents our drive and what motivates us.  When Mars is in Libra, relationships can become our focus.  We want harmony and peace but we can also be more indecisive.  But Mars in Libra is more open to compromise and can be quite the negotiator.  Our needs and wants are bound to come up for review.  And this is all playing out against the backdrop of the remaining days of Venus retrograde in Leo.  But hang in there, folks because Venus will be stationing direct in 12 degrees of Leo on September 3. Relief is in sight!

On August 28, Uranus will station retrograde in 23 degrees of Taurus until January 26, 2024 when it goes direct in 19 degrees of Taurus.  Uranus is the planet associated with change, revolution and awakening.  I am sure that many of you are thinking, great, just what we need, one more retrograde planet while Mercury and Venus are retrograde.  But when Uranus is retrograde, the changes we experience tend to occur more on an internal rather than external level.  I can say this because I have a natal Uranus retrograde.  Most of us will not be feeling Uranus retrograde as acutely as Mercury or Venus retrograde because it is a slower moving planet.  

But Uranus is not exactly comfortable in the fixed earth sign of Taurus, so let's hope and pray that Uranus does not continue to blow up the earth with more fires, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods.  I wouldn't rule out some cyberattacks or big truths being revealed, though. If you have any planets between 19 and 25 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, though, you will feel the effects of this Uranus retrograde big time.  This retrograde Uranus will be opposing my natal Sun and Venus in Scorpio in my 2nd house, so I am sure that my values and sense of life force will be up for some change.

The month closes out with a Super Full Moon in 7 degrees of Pisces on August 30.  This is also known as a Blue Moon because we have two Full Moons in a month.  Pisces is a mutable water sign and this is bound to be a very emotional and sensitive Full Moon.  The themes associated with a Pisces Full Moon include creativity, kindness, compassion and spirituality. But confusion, deception and a tendency to feel overwhelmed can also be present.  Emotions will be running high, mark my words.  We have a preponderance of mutable energy on this Full Moon: the Sun and Mercury in Virgo, the Moon, Saturn and Neptune in Pisces.  This Moon will shine a light non disillusionment, health and nutrition.  Service to others could also factor in heavily.  And pay attention to your dreams around this Full Moon, because we could be receiving some important messages.  

The Full Moon in 7 degrees of Pisces is also conjunct Saturn in 3 degrees of Pisces.  Once again, the theme of a reality check comes into play.  With the conjunction occurring in the sign of Pisces, it could provide an impetus to get real on our spirituality.  Saturn is also known as Father Time, so if there any endings in your life right now, they could have profound and long-lasting effects.  This is not a Full Moon to be taken lightly...

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. The Sun Enters Virgo and Mercury Goes Retrograde

 

The month of August continues to be volatile.  On August 15, the Sun in Leo squared Uranus in Taurus, inspiring me to tweet:

We could be in for a pretty volatile day today full of shocks, surprises and sudden reveals with the Sun in Leo squaring Uranus in Taurus. #astrology

On the following day, August 16, we had a New Moon in Leo, which also packed quite a punch.  On that day I tweeted:

It was a pretty volatile New Moon on August 16.  I also tweeted this on that day, which seemed to resonate with quite a few people:

Is anyone else feeling like this is a Full Moon instead of a New Moon in Leo? I swear that having both the Sun and Moon in Leo squaring Uranus in Taurus the past couple of days has been wreaking havoc. And Mars in Virgo trining Uranus has only served to agitate the situation.

It was not a quiet, peaceful New Moon by any means.  We are veering into Virgo season, but we have a few more aspects that will continue to shake things up.  On August 21, the Sun in Leo is inconjunct (or quincunx, if you prefer that term) Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect can trigger mini-crises, build up the pressure and high intensity can prevail.  I am just warning you that it can lead to obsessive and destructive behavior.  That is how the Sun and Pluto roll when they interact.  I have a natal Sun-Pluto square, which is not easy, but the inconjunct means that the planets are 150 degrees apart, indicating that there is really no common ground for the planets and adjustments are probably going to be required to get through the day in one piece.

Venus in Leo will be squaring Jupiter in 15 degrees of Taurus on August 22.  I know that these two are regarded as the Greater Benefics and squares to Jupiter are not all bad, there are some pitfalls that we need to be aware of.  Basically, we just want to have fun on this day, but work hard--not so much.  It will be a day when we are probably going to feel optimistic, friendly and generous.  And there is the rub--watch those credit cards, because we might feel like splurging and partying too hard.  Diets can pretty much get shot on this day.

Mars in Virgo is also opposing Neptune in 27 degrees of Pisces on August 22.  This aspect can lead to feelings of discouragement and inadequacy. We are susceptible to self-deception and con artists will be running rampant.  The best course of action on this day is to try to channel this energy into creative or spiritual outlets.

The Sun enters the mutable earth sign of Virgo on August 23.  This is a big change from the fiery and passionate sign of Leo.  When the Sun is in Virgo, our focus shifts to more practical concerns and details become more important.  We tend to get more organized, want to improve our job performance as the perfectionist side of Virgo takes the reins and managing our health takes priority too.

The other big event on August 23 is Mercury stationing retrograde in 21 degrees of Virgo until September 15, when it stations direct in 8 degrees of Virgo.  I am sure many of us have been feeling like it is Mercury retrograde already, due to the fact that it entered its retrograde shadow on August 4.  Mercury rules Virgo and is quite comfortable in this sign.  However, we can still expect the usual confusion in communication and delays in transportation that Mercury retrograde symbolizes.  And watch out for electronic snafus: computers and cell phones breaking down.  Back up your computers.  When Mercury is retrograde in Virgo, we can really be forced to focus on rethinking the details.  Unresolved issues from the past can come up for review. People from our past can turn up, too, especially with Venus still retrograde in Leo.  Mercury retrograde in Virgo can also see us revamping our daily routines and taking care of health matters.  Perhaps some of us will be getting a second opinion to obtain a clearer diagnosis of troubling symptoms.

Venus and the Sun Form a Star Point in Leo and a New Moon in Leo

 

We have a tremendous amount of Leo energy present this week.  On August 13, retrograde Venus will be conjunct the Sun in 20 degrees of Leo.  This is considered to be an inferior conjunction because Venus is retrograde. Venus stationed retrograde in 26 degrees of Leo on July 22, so it was only natural that Venus would meet up with the Sun in a conjunction.  This meetup will herald the start of a new Venus Star Point in Leo.  The most recent Venus Star Points in Leo occurred in the summers of 2015, 2007 and 1999.  You might want to think back on those years, as similar issues could be coming up for you now. The conjunction between Venus and the Sun is also referred to as Cazimi because Venus is quite literally in the heart of the Sun.  In order for a Cazimi to occur, the conjunction must be within one degree.  Venus is also entering a new 584-day cycle around the Sun. This also marks the time when Venus transforms from an evening star (aka Hesperus) to a morning star, aka Lucifer.  When Venus is an evening star people do not show their emotions quite so easily but are experienced on a private level which can be quite intense.  When Venus is a morning star, it becomes easier to let one's emotions show and fight for our beliefs. We tend to be more spontaneous, eager and impulsive with our emotions.  It can be a time when we experience a rebirth of the heart.  We are rising up from the shadows and becoming more conscious.  Any issues that have been dredged up by the Venus retrograde will be addressed now.  If anyone has had past loves show up in the past few weeks, blame it on the Venus retrograde.

I am discussing this event because it affects me personally.  I was born with a natal Venus retrograde in Scorpio, technically under the Evening Star in Aquarius, but three days after I was born, the Venus Star Point changed to 22 degrees of Scorpio, which is two degrees away from my natal Venus.  I tend to think of myself as more of a Morning Star Venus, as my feelings lead the way I live my life.  I have Libra rising, so Venus is the ruler of my chart too.  If you are curious about calculating your own Venus Star Point, I would recommend going to this site:

Personally, I think that this Venus retrograde has been especially challenging and I have been hearing that from clients as well.  I fared pretty well during the Venus retrograde in Leo of 2015, but this one is reminding me more of 2007, sad to say.

On August 16, we have a New Moon in 23 degrees of Leo.  This one will pack quite the punch, mark my words. We have the Sun, Moon, and Venus in Leo accompanied by Chiron and the North Node in Aries.  That is a hefty dose of fire energy.  For starters, it does trine the North Node in 28 degrees of Aries, which can be very beneficial in terms of directing us to our collective destiny.  The basic premise of a New Moon is to plant the seeds for a fresh path, and this aspect to the North Node is very encouraging.  A New Moon in Leo has themes of being courageous, and wanting to shine as a leader. And the New Moon is conjunct Venus in 18 degrees of Leo, so try to do it with love.

Uranus in 23 degrees of Taurus is exactly square the Sun and Moon in Leo, which is bringing out the "I gotta be me" vibe, prompting us to be our best authentic self.  The shadow side of Uranus in Taurus squaring the Sun and Moon in Leo could manifest in more earthquakes or natural disasters too.  I hope that doesn't happen, though.

We also have a Grand Earth Trine in play for the New Moon.  Uranus in 23 degrees of Taurus is trining Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn (which is involved in an ongoing square to the Nodes in Aries and Libra until November) and trining Mercury and Mars in Virgo.  This can be a very positive influence for creating new structures and health can be a strong issue with the Virgo planets.  Jupiter in 14 degrees of Taurus is also trining Mercury in 19 degrees of Virgo, which can expand the mind, but Mercury in Virgo can help us see the details as well as the big picture. We can be more precise with our plans. And Mars in Virgo is trining Uranus in Taurus, inspiring us to break free of previous restrictions and take a few risks.  This is a perfect aspect for launching new projects. 

On August 8, 2023, I received some very sad news. When I opened the email containing the newsletter from astrologer Mitchell Scott Lewis, it started with the line "It is with the deepest possible sorrow, and the most profound sense of loss, that I am writing of the passing of my brother and my true partner in life, Mitchell Lewis."  His brother David announced it.  I first became aware of Mitchell Scott Lewis in September 2016 when I attended an NCGR workshop he gave on medical diagnosis from the natal chart. I had no idea that he had been battling cancer for the past 10 months.  I can tell you that he was a very insightful astrologer, especially in financial matters.  I looked forward to his newsletters and will miss him greatly, as will the rest of the astrological community.  Rest in peace, free of pain, Mitchell.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. It's Getting Personal as Mercury, the Sun and Venus Make Some Major Moves This Week

 

Well, we have survived the first Full Moon in the month of August on August 1, when I posted on Twitter:

This coming week, the personal planets of the Sun, Mercury and Venus are getting a lot of action.  On August 4, Mercury in 8 degrees of Virgo enters its retrograde shadow period. Mercury doesn't officially retrograde until August 23 when it stations at 21 degrees of Virgo, but it is starting to slow down and on August 4 it enters its retrograde shadow because it hits the degree where it will station direct on September 15.  Be prepared for things to get a little wonky in terms of communication and transportation.  If you think it feels like Mercury retrograde in terms of delays, misunderstandings or missed messages, you are not imagining it.  Nobody really likes Mercury retrograde, but it is a fact of life and being forewarned is being forearmed.  The other end of the Mercury retrograde occurs on September 30 when Mercury clears its retrograde shadow in 21 degrees of Virgo.

The Sun in Leo is squaring Jupiter in 14 degrees of Taurus on August 6.  This aspect can be a mixed bag, as aspects to Jupiter, even the challenging ones likes squares and oppositions, are never all bad.  Jupiter is the planet that likes to expand whatever it touches and is associated with good fortune and luck.  The Sun is planet that represents our life force and ego.  When these two planets get together, we literally can have too much of a good thing as hubris, being full of oneself, overly optimistic and the concept of our eyes being bigger than our stomach can prevail.  So yet, it's possible to gain weight on this day if we overindulge. We might come off to others as haughty and humility is Missing in Action.  We have a tendency to bite off more than we can chew.  There is a strong theme of going overboard in our actions and partying too hard.  But the more positive side of the Sun squaring Jupiter is that we can utilize its energy to get centered and be more magnanimous to others by sharing our wisdom.  Jupiter loves wisdom and the Sun in Leo can be very generous.  Try to harness the positive traits so that our ego is more balanced and in control in a good way.  It can be a day of giving back if we work it right.

On August 9, retrograde Venus in Leo is squaring Uranus in 22 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect can challenge the stability of relationships via unexpected events or urges. We will probably experience a need for more freedom or excitement.  Don't be afraid to try to something new in relationships.  Venus squaring Uranus can also trigger some impulse purchases, so watch those credit cards on this day.

Mercury in Virgo is forming a delightful trine to Jupiter in 14 degrees of Taurus on August 9th as well. This is an extremely favorable aspect that makes learning fun, encourages optimism and can be the messenger of very good news.  It is a perfect time to make plans for the future and to travel.   

The 9th of August has some complex dynamics going down. While some might be apprehensive about the Venus-Uranus square (and I am in that camp because Venus is conjuncting my natal Pluto in Leo and squaring my natal Sun and Venus in Scorpio), Mercury in Virgo is forming a supportive sextile to my natal Saturn in Scorpio.  Yes, I realize that Jupiter in Taurus is opposing my natal Saturn, but I am trusting in Mercury to see me through the day in good stead.
