What is the big deal with Chiron? In addition to being known as the Wounded Healer, Chiron was a wise centaur who was a mentor for others but was also wounded due to the fact that he was born half-man and half-horse. His wound occurred because his mother abandoned him at birth. His initial wound was rejection, but Apollo adopted him and taught him prophecy and poetry. Apollo gave him the chance to integrate the gap between nature and spirit. In order to experience a Chironic healing we must reconcile what is unacceptable or incompatible within ourselves. The reconciliation becomes our unique advantage and greatest gift.
Martin Lass wrote a brilliant book called Chiron Healing Body and Soul that I highly recommend. He also has a very profound statement in the book: "The gift is in the wound." The bottom line is that the wound is the key to something greater and the gift it holds.
I have a very prominent and active Chiron in my chart; it is in my 4th house in Capricorn and opposes my Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house while squaring my Neptune in Libra in my 1st house. It also sextiles my Sun and Venus in Scorpio in my 2nd house, so being a healer was definitely in the cards for me.
If you are interested in a Chiron-themed movie, I urge you to see The King's Speech, which was made in 2010 and won Oscars for Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Colin Firth starred as Prince Albert who ascended to become King George VI when his brother abdicated, but his wound was his stammer. His wife Elizabeth (who later became the Queen Mother) hired an Australian actor and speech therapist to help him overcome his stammer so that he could become King. This was a time when public speaking, especially on the radio, was a crucial part of the job of a monarch. As an astrologer, I found it supremely ironic that Colin Firth was actually undergoing his Chiron Return (which occurs for everyone around age 50) when he made the film.
How is Chiron in Aries still active? On April 12, the Moon in Gemini is forming a supportive sextile to Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries. This increases the potential for healing and growth by working through insecurities and past emotional wounds. The sextile can actually attract people and opportunities that provide us with more security by putting our wounds into perspective. That Gemini Moon is also sextiling Mercury in Aries which can help us communicate our feelings and needs.
On April 15, we have two more Chiron aspects. The Moon in Cancer squares Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries, and this can play out as a compulsion to deal with those insecurities and wounds in new ways. Squares are challenging aspects and we are being asked to stretch out of our comfort zone. Our intuition and desire for security are in conflict with current circumstances and we can be experiencing restless nagging feelings that something needs to be settled.
Retrograde Mercury is conjunct Chiron in 19 degrees of Aries on April 15 as well. This represents an opportunity to take a look at our wounds. Mercury conjunct Chiron means that words, thoughts and memories will trigger our old wounds and hurts. We get to acknowledge our primal wound of inadequacy. We could find ourselves remembering hurtful things said to us by parents, siblings, teachers or peers. And we can't forget that since Mercury is retrograde, the past will be dredged up. That is one of the functions of Mercury retrograde, forcing us to review the past.
Where does 19 degrees of Aries fall in your chart? This is where the action and hopefully the healing will occur in the coming week. After that, we have the Sun entering Taurus on April 19, a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus on the 20th and a Full Moon in Scorpio on April 23. More to come on these events in next week's post.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client. I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
