January Ends with a Blast of Fire Energy as Mars Enters Sagittarius and a Lunar Eclipse in Leo

The month of January is ending with a blast of fire energy as Mars enters Sagittarius on January 26, 2018 and we literally end the month with a blue moon lunar eclipse in 11 degrees of Leo on January 31, 2018.

Mars is entering the sign of Sagittarius on January 26, 2018, where it will remain until March 17, 2018.  Mars may not rule Sagittarius, but it is still pretty comfortable in Sagittarius.  When Mars is in Sagittarius, its actions are motivated by ideals and we crave adventure.  It is not quite as focused as Mars in Scorpio because it doesn’t want to be bothered with the details.  Mars in Sagittarius is involved in a pursuit of spiritual desires and a quest for freedom.  It is expansive, optimistic, impulsive and prone to taking risks.  When Mars is in Sagittarius, it is prime time to travel, although the travel doesn’t necessarily have to be physical; it can also lead to expansion of the mind by reading or other forms of consciousness raising.

January 2018 began with a full moon in 11 degrees of Cancer on January 1st and it ends on the 31st with a full moon in 11 degrees of Leo, which is also a Lunar Eclipse.  Whenever we have two full moons during a month, the second one is referred to as a Blue Moon because it is a rare occurrence.  This full moon also kicks off eclipse season for 2018, which features five instead of the usual four eclipses.  The next eclipse will be a solar eclipse and will occur on February 15, 2018 in 27 degrees of Aquarius.

It is truly a stellar lineup for this lunar eclipse on January 31, 2018.  A lunar eclipse in the sign of Leo will have a focus on children, creativity and living in the heart from a place of love.  It could be a very romantic time as well.  But one very important thing to keep in mind is that this lunar eclipse in Leo will be a north node eclipse, which will seriously affect our collective future destiny.  It gives us a measure of control as to how things will play out.  When there is a south node eclipse, we tend to feel somewhat powerless as if matters are not in our control.  A north node eclipse can feel very empowering.

Eclipses tend to travel in pairs, and the next eclipse will be a solar eclipse on February 15, 2018 in 27 degrees of Aquarius.  The bottom line is that the lunar eclipse in 11 degrees of Leo will undoubtedly trigger some issues from the lunar eclipse on August 7, 2017 in 15 degrees of Aquarius, and the solar eclipse on February 15th in 27 degrees of Aquarius will stir up some issues from the great American solar eclipse on August 21, 2017 in 28 degrees of Leo. Try to reflect on what was going on back in August for you in your life.  These eclipses may give you come closure or resolution.

The lunar eclipse in 11 degrees of Leo will be exactly conjunct the dwarf planet Ceres in 11 degrees of Leo.  This is a very interesting combination because the moon is associated with traditional nurturing, while Ceres adds a more a stronger, more independent flavor to its nurturing style.  It very much symbolizes the single mother prototype.

The full moon in 11 degrees of Leo is also opposing Venus in 16 degrees of Aquarius, which can set up a real conflict between the head and the heart as part of this lunar eclipse.  Adding to the mix of the sun and Juno (aka the marriage asteroid) in Aquarius, Mercury joins the Aquarius party on January 31, 2018 just 12 minutes after the lunar eclipse.  Mercury will remain in Aquarius until February 17, 2018.

Last, but definitely not least, the full moon in 11 degrees of Leo will be forming a challenging, irritating inconjunct to Neptune in 12 degrees of Pisces.  This aspect can manifest in conflicting feelings, a sense of being overwhelmed by our emotions and can provoke a total meltdown or strong desire to escape everything.  At its highest form, it can represent unconditional love, but only if we strive to make some adjustments.  And that is truly the lesson involved with inconjunct aspects – adjust to co-exist.

This lunar eclipse will definitely bring change to your life and the best way to determine where that change will manifest is to look at which houses are being activated by the Aquarius/Leo axis.  For me personally, the Aquarius sun falls in my 4th house and the Leo moon falls in my 10th house. Issues of home/work balance and domestic life vs. career will be involved.  This makes perfect sense to me because I do much of my astrology and psychic work out of my home, while my Reiki work is done outside the home.

If you are curious as to how all of the planetary changes, including eclipses, Saturn in Capricorn and Jupiter in Scorpio will be affecting you in 2018, please consider getting an astrological reading.  A transit reading might be just what you need right now to make the most of Jupiter in Scorpio.  Jupiter transits are all about taking advantage of opportunities and if you snooze you lose with Jupiter.  You have to be aware and strike while the iron is hot. The Services Offered page of my site describes the menu of services that I offer. There is something for everyone.

My site also offers the opportunity to provide a donation in the amount of your choice to demonstrate your support for my blog and daily astrological insights on Twitter at:

A contribution in any amount is deeply appreciated as gratitude is a daily part of my spiritual practice.

The past week of January also featured a very powerful conjunction between Mercury and Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn on January 24th, which inspired me to tweet:
As I mentioned last week, I was scheduled for cataract surgery on January 24th.  And during the end of my surgery, I remember my surgeon saying that she was 99% done but my cataract was a little tough to get out.  Talk about digging deep! But my follow-up visit the next day confirmed that I was healing nicely.  I am deeply grateful to the nurses, anesthesiology staff and my surgeon at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston for making this surgery run so smoothly.

Recently I undertook an intensive life purpose coaching training program and became certified as a Life Purpose Coach.  It was an intense, eye-opening experience that changed my life as it caused me to reflect on the story of my life.  But I left it with feelings of hope and light for the future that I want to share with others.  To that end, I am now offering Life Purpose Coaching to my menu of services.  You can read more about it at:

As an astrologer, I have decided to include an interpretation of the north node by sign. If you are feeling stuck and need some help in getting from Point A to Point B in your quest for making positive changes in your life, please email me at lindasim54@gmail.com to schedule a complementary telephone consultation to discover if you are a good fit for this program.  I look forward to hearing from you.

If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off and can also be described as a spa for the soul to boot!   Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205.  I am also offering Reiki treatments in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline on Sunday afternoons.

But the big news is that I have created and launched a new website devoted exclusively to my Reiki practice. Please feel free to check it out at:

I was also featured in the July 3rd edition of Boston Voyager, an online publication that runs a section called Inspiring Stories about local entrepreneurs on its home page.  The Scorpio moon was trining the Cancer sun and Neptune in Pisces on that day, so my story certainly debuted under fitting aspects.  Please feel free to check it out:

In the spirit of the New Year, I have revised my package deals and I am now offering two options for package deals: Silver and a Tarot special for my tarot clients. Please check it out at:

Venus and the Sun in Aquarius and Mercury Conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn

After an emotionally intense new moon in Capricorn on January 16, 2018, the Capricorn party is starting to disband.  We had the sun, moon, Saturn, Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn on the day of the new moon. Saturn and Pluto will remain in Capricorn for a few years and Mercury is still in Capricorn until January 31st, but Venus left Capricorn and entered Aquarius on January 17th, inspiring me to tweet:
Venus will remain in the sign of Aquarius until February 10, 2018.  Venus in Aquarius is a whole different animal from Venus in Capricorn.  Venus is Capricorn is known for its stability, loyalty, dependability and solid foundation in relationships.  But it can also feel a bit boring and routine at times with its propensity for conventionality.  Enter Venus in Aquarius.  Venus in Aquarius is bubbly, amiable, curious and loves to think outside of the box.  It is definitely willing to venture out of its comfort zone.  The traits that describe Venus in Aquarius include a need for independence, unconventionality and freedom of expression.  Friendship is very important to Venus in Aquarius.

Venus in Aquarius is also about impersonal love, which is why friendship takes on such an added importance while Venus is transiting this sign.  The biggest challenge that we face while Venus is in Aquarius is to broaden our capacity to experience impersonal love for others without shutting out those closest to us.  It has been frequently said that it is foolish to expect one person to fulfill all of our emotional needs and that is why we need friends.  Many people describe their partner as their best friend, but we all need more than one friend to round us out as an individual.  Use the energy of Venus in Aquarius to open your heart to greater intimacy and authenticity in all of your relationships.  If we can do this, we will really be living the idealistic Venus in Aquarius dream.

The Sun enters the sign of Aquarius on January 19, 2018 through February 18, 2018.  With both Venus and the Sun in Aquarius, there will be a greater openness to new ideas and humanitarian causes that promote personal freedom.

Aquarius can be a confusing, misunderstood sign.  Its symbol is the water bearer, which leads many people to believe that it is a water sign.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Aquarius is the fixed air sign.  Air signs are all about communication and Aquarius is fixed and determined with a tendency towards stubbornness, but it is ruled by Uranus and that gives it an edge when it comes to being open to new ideas.  It also has the ability to detach and see the bigger picture.

The sun in Aquarius is the time of year when we experience a major shift from the conventionality of the sun in Capricorn to a quest for innovation.  We are more open to new perspectives and individual freedom becomes more important as we strive to liberate ourselves from restrictions, inhibitions and limitations.

I have my natal Mars in Aquarius, which is pretty challenging for a Scorpio, especially when it squares my sun.  So Venus will conjunct my natal Mars on January 30, 2018, which could have some delightful effects in terms of stimulating my desire for intimacy, socializing and creative abilities.  The sun will conjunct my natal Mars on February 3, 2018, which should feel like an adrenaline boost of energy and fuel my creativity and assertiveness.

There is one other major astrological aspect in the coming week that I would like to examine.  It is the conjunction of Mercury and Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn on January 24, 2018.  This particular alignment of Mercury and Pluto lends a depth and intensity to thinking and communication.  It is very favorable for research and can also be characteristic of an obsessive need to get to the bottom of things.  The deepest matters in our unconscious tend to surface when these two planets are in Capricorn. Pluto’s domain is power and control as well as matters of life and death and its conjunction to Mercury can provide powerful transformation in our thinking and speaking.

I also have a very vested interest in the Mercury/Pluto conjunction on January 24th.  I am having cataract surgery on that day and this conjunction falls in my 4th house conjunct my natal Chiron in Capricorn. I am grateful that it is sextiling Jupiter in 20 degrees of Scorpio, which is also conjunct my natal sun.  I am hoping for the best possible outcome, as in clearer vision and a complication free recovery, but I also know that I have no control over how this will play out.  Even my surgeon can’t predict the outcome.  I have been given all of the standard warnings about potential side effects and have been experiencing bouts of anxiety this past week.  I hope to be able to share good news with you next week in this blog.

Mercury Zips Through Capricorn and a Powerful New Moon in Capricorn

The season of Capricorn is in full bloom these days.  On January 9, 2018 the powerhouse combo of the Sun, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn inspired me to tweet:
After an extended stay in the sign of Sagittarius (courtesy of Mercury retrograde), Mercury entered the sign of Capricorn on January 11th, inspiring me to tweet:

Mercury will literally be zipping through the sign of Capricorn and will enter the sign of Aquarius on January 31, 2018, the same day as the lunar eclipse in Leo which kicks off eclipse season for 2018.  What can we expect when Mercury is transiting the sign of Capricorn?  Well, communications will become more serious, thinking is more practical and logical and our focus takes on a more sober approach.  Logic, order and organization will be the new reality.  Indeed, realism will be a strong theme during this brief transit. If you have set any New Year’s Resolutions, this is a perfect time to work on them because the energy of Mercury in Capricorn is very conducive to setting goals. And we have the added bonus of all the planets being in direct motion, so there is a super cosmic green light for moving forward.  Full steam ahead!

On January 16, 2018, we have the first new moon of 2018 in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  There are six planets in Capricorn on this date:  the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Pluto.  Capricorn is a cardinal sign and is very action oriented and new moons are all about setting new intentions.  Motivation is a key factor in this new moon.  Capricorn is the sign that pertains to governments, corporations, law and order and power.  This is a heady mix.

The most challenging piece of this new moon is its square to Uranus in 24 degrees of Aries.  Aries is another cardinal sign and it too loves action and change.  The new moon in Capricorn squaring Uranus in Aries can definitely bring unexpected change and uncertainty.  Uranus wants freedom, but there is also the potential for spiritual awakening.  The key to handling this aspect is to surrender our need to control the outcome, which I realize is much easier said than done. Before the new moon is exact, the Capricorn moon also conjuncts Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn, so we could literally be waking up with feeling a need to control. But there is a plethora of positive aspects that accompanies this new moon which may help offset any disturbances instigated by the Uranus square.

The new moon in 27 degrees of Capricorn forms an exact conjunction to Venus in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect augurs well for love, finances, beauty and values.  This is a very sweet aspect.  Some of us may even be able to negotiate some profitable business deals under this influence or smooth out some rough patches in relationships.

Mars in 24 degrees of Scorpio is also forming a conjunction to Jupiter in 19 degrees in Scorpio and this aspect is providing energy, initiative, courage and self-confidence.  And Mars in Scorpio is forming a supportive sextile to that new moon in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  What an adrenaline boost to pursue our goals!  Jupiter in 19 degrees of Scorpio is forming yet another supportive sextile to Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect is indicates that our material goals need to be fueled by our passions, which should be running quite high during this new moon energy.

All of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) will be feeling the effects of this new moon very strongly. So if you have any planets in the late degrees of a cardinal sign that means you.  This new moon is not just affecting sun signs.  For me personally, it is falling in my 4th house conjunct my natal Chiron in Capricorn and opposing my Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house.  It is literally in direct opposition to my retrograde Uranus in Cancer.  I am trying not to get too freaked out by how this will play out, because I fully realize that Uranus is literally the wild card in this new moon and my natal Uranus is being strongly activated by it.  More will be revealed…

When Jupiter Aligns with Mars

It’s official, folks  -- 2018 is here and it definitely came in with a bang.  We had a super full moon in Cancer on January 1, 2018 aspecting Saturn, Venus and Neptune, inspiring me to tweet:
On the following day, Uranus stationed direct in 24 degrees of Aries.  But on January 6, 2018, we have another major aspect occurring.  Mars in Scorpio will conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio in 17 degrees of Scorpio. I know that it dates me, but I can’t help but think of the lyrics in that old song from the musical Hair in the 1960’s:

“When the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars.”

I know that everyone is trying to be optimistic about 2018 and hoping for peace, especially when the United States has a president who seems to be bringing us closer to war with every tweet.  So I am making a conscious decision to have more faith in 2018.  It doesn’t hurt that this aspect conjuncts my Scorpio sun in the 2nd house beneficially affecting my values and hopefully my finances.

Jupiter conjunct Mars in Scorpio fosters energy, initiative, courage, and increased optimism.  With this aspect we are much more willing to take a chance on pursuing our goals.  It will be a great day to make changes.  And since Scorpio is the sign associated with sex, it could be a very sexy time or more sexual scandals could be revealed.  Jupiter conjunct Mars has enormous potential to set us free with the truth.  Mars is very comfortable and is a co-ruler, along with Pluto, of Scorpio.

Mercury in 23 degrees of Sagittarius is also forming a trine to newly direct Uranus in 24 degrees of Aries on the same day.  This aspect can certainly help us blast through whatever roadblocks that have been holding us back and move forward on our path to enlightenment. Uranus craves change and Mercury is more than willing to give us more insight on how to implement that change.

On January 8, 2018, Mars in Scorpio is also forming a very favorable sextile to Pluto in 18 degrees of Capricorn.  This is an incredibly empowering aspect.  Scorpio’s ruling planets are working together to support and coax the energy of these two planets.  We literally have a green light to act on transforming our lives.  So bring on whatever changes you are seeking to make.  We also have Venus in 17 degrees of Capricorn sextiling Jupiter in 18 degrees of Scorpio on January 8, 2018.which is yet another source of support for making our dreams come true and achieving real progress if we are willing to make some effort.

It gets even better on January 9, 2018 when the sun in 18 degrees of Capricorn conjuncts Venus in 18 degrees of Capricorn and they both conjunct Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn.  What a powerhouse lineup!  This aspect can have an intense and transformative effect on personal and business relationships by urging us to transform the negative into positive through love.
