The Sun Enters Virgo and Mercury Goes Retrograde

 



The month of August continues to be volatile.  On August 15, the Sun in Leo squared Uranus in Taurus, inspiring me to tweet:
On the following day, August 16, we had a New Moon in Leo, which also packed quite a punch.  On that day I tweeted:

It was a pretty volatile New Moon on August 16.  I also tweeted this on that day, which seemed to resonate with quite a few people:

It was not a quiet, peaceful New Moon by any means.  We are veering into Virgo season, but we have a few more aspects that will continue to shake things up.  On August 21, the Sun in Leo is inconjunct (or quincunx, if you prefer that term) Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect can trigger mini-crises, build up the pressure and high intensity can prevail.  I am just warning you that it can lead to obsessive and destructive behavior.  That is how the Sun and Pluto roll when they interact.  I have a natal Sun-Pluto square, which is not easy, but the inconjunct means that the planets are 150 degrees apart, indicating that there is really no common ground for the planets and adjustments are probably going to be required to get through the day in one piece.


Venus in Leo will be squaring Jupiter in 15 degrees of Taurus on August 22.  I know that these two are regarded as the Greater Benefics and squares to Jupiter are not all bad, there are some pitfalls that we need to be aware of.  Basically, we just want to have fun on this day, but work hard--not so much.  It will be a day when we are probably going to feel optimistic, friendly and generous.  And there is the rub--watch those credit cards, because we might feel like splurging and partying too hard.  Diets can pretty much get shot on this day.

Mars in Virgo is also opposing Neptune in 27 degrees of Pisces on August 22.  This aspect can lead to feelings of discouragement and inadequacy. We are susceptible to self-deception and con artists will be running rampant.  The best course of action on this day is to try to channel this energy into creative or spiritual outlets.

The Sun enters the mutable earth sign of Virgo on August 23.  This is a big change from the fiery and passionate sign of Leo.  When the Sun is in Virgo, our focus shifts to more practical concerns and details become more important.  We tend to get more organized, want to improve our job performance as the perfectionist side of Virgo takes the reins and managing our health takes priority too.

The other big event on August 23 is Mercury stationing retrograde in 21 degrees of Virgo until September 15, when it stations direct in 8 degrees of Virgo.  I am sure many of us have been feeling like it is Mercury retrograde already, due to the fact that it entered its retrograde shadow on August 4.  Mercury rules Virgo and is quite comfortable in this sign.  However, we can still expect the usual confusion in communication and delays in transportation that Mercury retrograde symbolizes.  And watch out for electronic snafus: computers and cell phones breaking down.  Back up your computers.  When Mercury is retrograde in Virgo, we can really be forced to focus on rethinking the details.  Unresolved issues from the past can come up for review. People from our past can turn up, too, especially with Venus still retrograde in Leo.  Mercury retrograde in Virgo can also see us revamping our daily routines and taking care of health matters.  Perhaps some of us will be getting a second opinion to obtain a clearer diagnosis of troubling symptoms.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine.  If you are eligible for a booster shot, get it. I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus twice. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

Venus and the Sun Form a Star Point in Leo and a New Moon in Leo

 



We have a tremendous amount of Leo energy present this week.  On August 13, retrograde Venus will be conjunct the Sun in 20 degrees of Leo.  This is considered to be an inferior conjunction because Venus is retrograde. Venus stationed retrograde in 26 degrees of Leo on July 22, so it was only natural that Venus would meet up with the Sun in a conjunction.  This meetup will herald the start of a new Venus Star Point in Leo.  The most recent Venus Star Points in Leo occurred in the summers of 2015, 2007 and 1999.  You might want to think back on those years, as similar issues could be coming up for you now. The conjunction between Venus and the Sun is also referred to as Cazimi because Venus is quite literally in the heart of the Sun.  In order for a Cazimi to occur, the conjunction must be within one degree.  Venus is also entering a new 584-day cycle around the Sun. This also marks the time when Venus transforms from an evening star (aka Hesperus) to a morning star, aka Lucifer.  When Venus is an evening star people do not show their emotions quite so easily but are experienced on a private level which can be quite intense.  When Venus is a morning star, it becomes easier to let one's emotions show and fight for our beliefs. We tend to be more spontaneous, eager and impulsive with our emotions.  It can be a time when we experience a rebirth of the heart.  We are rising up from the shadows and becoming more conscious.  Any issues that have been dredged up by the Venus retrograde will be addressed now.  If anyone has had past loves show up in the past few weeks, blame it on the Venus retrograde.

I am discussing this event because it affects me personally.  I was born with a natal Venus retrograde in Scorpio, technically under the Evening Star in Aquarius, but three days after I was born, the Venus Star Point changed to 22 degrees of Scorpio, which is two degrees away from my natal Venus.  I tend to think of myself as more of a Morning Star Venus, as my feelings lead the way I live my life.  I have Libra rising, so Venus is the ruler of my chart too.  If you are curious about calculating your own Venus Star Point, I would recommend going to this site:


Personally, I think that this Venus retrograde has been especially challenging and I have been hearing that from clients as well.  I fared pretty well during the Venus retrograde in Leo of 2015, but this one is reminding me more of 2007, sad to say.  

It's not too late to get a handle on the current Venus retrograde by purchasing a Venus Retrograde reading.

On August 16, we have a New Moon in 23 degrees of Leo.  This one will pack quite the punch, mark my words. We have the Sun, Moon, and Venus in Leo accompanied by Chiron and the North Node in Aries.  That is a hefty dose of fire energy.  For starters, it does trine the North Node in 28 degrees of Aries, which can be very beneficial in terms of directing us to our collective destiny.  The basic premise of a New Moon is to plant the seeds for a fresh path, and this aspect to the North Node is very encouraging.  A New Moon in Leo has themes of being courageous, and wanting to shine as a leader. And the New Moon is conjunct Venus in 18 degrees of Leo, so try to do it with love.

Uranus in 23 degrees of Taurus is exactly square the Sun and Moon in Leo, which is bringing out the "I gotta be me" vibe, prompting us to be our best authentic self.  The shadow side of Uranus in Taurus squaring the Sun and Moon in Leo could manifest in more earthquakes or natural disasters too.  I hope that doesn't happen, though.

We also have a Grand Earth Trine in play for the New Moon.  Uranus in 23 degrees of Taurus is trining Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn (which is involved in an ongoing square to the Nodes in Aries and Libra until November) and trining Mercury and Mars in Virgo.  This can be a very positive influence for creating new structures and health can be a strong issue with the Virgo planets.  Jupiter in 14 degrees of Taurus is also trining Mercury in 19 degrees of Virgo, which can expand the mind, but Mercury in Virgo can help us see the details as well as the big picture. We can be more precise with our plans. And Mars in Virgo is trining Uranus in Taurus, inspiring us to break free of previous restrictions and take a few risks.  This is a perfect aspect for launching new projects. 

On August 8, 2023, I received some very sad news. When I opened the email containing the newsletter from astrologer Mitchell Scott Lewis, it started with the line "It is with the deepest possible sorrow, and the most profound sense of loss, that I am writing of the passing of my brother and my true partner in life, Mitchell Lewis."  His brother David announced it.  I first became aware of Mitchell Scott Lewis in September 2016 when I attended an NCGR workshop he gave on medical diagnosis from the natal chart. I had no idea that he had been battling cancer for the past 10 months.  I can tell you that he was a very insightful astrologer, especially in financial matters.  I looked forward to his newsletters and will miss him greatly, as will the rest of the astrological community.  Rest in peace, free of pain, Mitchell.

Mercury Enters Virgo for an Extended Stay and a Super Full Moon in Aquarius


 

The month of July is going out in a big way.  Save the day of July 28 because Mercury is entering the mutable earth sign of Virgo until October 4.  Yes, folks, there is yet another Mercury retrograde coming up on August 23 that lasts until September 15.  Mercury rules Virgo, as well as the sign of Gemini, so the good news is that Mercury is very comfortable in Virgo.  When Mercury is in Virgo, we tend to be more analytical, cerebral, focused, detail-oriented and perfectionist.  Mercury in Virgo is great for problem-solving. Its shadow side is that we can be a tad critical, so be mindful of that.  Virgo is a sign that likes to be of service and fix things.  When Mercury is transiting the sign of Virgo, we can work on getting answers about our health and might even try a new diet or fitness routine.

There is yet another reason we need to mark the day of July 28.  It marks the third time this past week that Pluto in Capricorn is exactly squaring the North Node in Aries and the South Node in Libra at 29 degrees of their respective signs. And 29 degrees is the anaretic or critical degree, so we are dealing with important stuff.  Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that the Nodes of the Moon departed the fixed signs of Taurus and Scorpio on July 17, the day of the New Moon in Cancer. The first two hits occurred on July 23 and July 25.  There is a great deal of Pluto activity going on these days and it is quite literally the astrological elephant in the room.  Pluto at the end of Capricorn is all about forcing us to let go, clean up what isn't working with the structures in our lives and moving forward.  It is a planetary demolition derby that is tearing down our old world for a rebirth to occur.  And, as I have often said, rebirth ain't always pretty.  Pluto is a slow-moving planet, so while many of us might feel intense pressure to make some major changes, just accept that we do have time to make them and it is okay to take baby steps.  It's like the old saying, Rome wasn't built in a day.  But we can't ignore the need for change, either.  Pluto in Capricorn will be squaring the Nodes until early November, so use this time to figure out your next steps.  If you don't make any choices regarding transforming your life, Pluto has a way of forcing change upon us that can be downright uncomfortable.

The month of August kicks off with a Super Full Moon in 9 degrees of Aquarius on the 1st. The term Super Full Moon just means that the Moon appears closer to the Earth and it appears larger and more visible.  We actually have two Full Moons in August; the second one happens on August 30 in 7 degrees of Pisces.  August is literally a Blue Moon month because of the two Full Moons.

The Full Moon in Aquarius has themes of the head versus the heart.  Aquarius is renowned for being an intellectual sign that loves community, organizations, groups and information.  Yet the Sun in Leo is very impassioned, impulsive, focused on the self, and emotional.  We could see more people dealing with issues of mental illness during this Full Moon.  There are some very interesting aspects in place during this Full Moon.  Mercury in Virgo is opposing Saturn in 5 degrees of Pisces, indicating that there could be some control issues over communication.  But Mercury is strong in Virgo and it can help us get to the root of problems.  Mars in Virgo is also trining Jupiter in 13 degrees of Taurus on the Full Moon.  This is a very positive aspect that encourages us to fight for our beliefs and the truth.  If you have been struggling to get an accurate diagnosis regarding a health issue, this could be your lucky break.  Venus in 27 degrees of Leo is also trining the North Node in Aries, which can be very inspirational and future-oriented energy.  Just be aware that Uranus in Taurus is also opposing Venus in Leo during this Full Moon, and this can be accompanied by disruptions in relationships as well as financial volatility.  This is par for the course for a Full Moon.  Uranus in Taurus will be opposing Venus in Leo for the first half of August.  And then Uranus joins the retrograde party on August 28.  More on that later...

Lots of Planetary Action as the Sun Opposes Pluto, Venus and Chiron Station Retrograde, and the Sun Enters Leo

 










The beat goes on.  The Nodes of the Moon changed signs on July 17, the day of the New Moon in Cancer, inspiring me to tweet:
On July 21, the Sun in Cancer is opposing Pluto in 29 degrees of Capricorn.  When the Sun opposes Pluto, power struggles, manipulation and control issues can rear their ugly heads.  It can definitely be a crisis time in relationships as change can be forced upon us.  Try to look at it as a time to confront and release the inner compulsions that have been holding us back.  

We have a double header happening on July 22, 2023.  Venus is stationing retrograde in 28 degrees of Leo and will remain retrograde until September 3, when it stations direct in 12 degrees of Leo. Venus retrogrades approximately every 18 months, but it has not been retrograde in Leo since the summer of 2015.  I am taking this event quite personally because I have a natal Venus retrograde in Scorpio.  I fared quite well during the last Venus retrograde in Leo in 2015, but the one in 2007 was not as kind to me.  I ask all of you to reflect back on what issues you were dealing with in relationships, finances and values back then, because they just might crop up again.

With Venus retrograde in Leo, self-love is bound to be reassessed as well.  I was watching Anne Ortelee's Weekly Weather on YouTube and noted that she referred to the Summer of 2023 as the Summer of Love because Venus has been in Leo since June 5 and won't leave Leo until October 8, 2023.  Our values, finances, and relationships will come under scrutiny when Venus is retrograde in Leo.  Our creativity can also soar, as well as a desire to play.  Ex-lovers could return during Venus retrograde too.  It's possible to meet a new lover during Venus retrograde, but try not to make any major decisions about relationships or make any drastic changes in your appearance until Venus clears its retrograde shadow in early October 2023.  Have fun, which Leo loves to do, but don't make any major commitments.  Jennifer Aniston married Justin Theroux in August 2015 when Venus was retrograde in Leo and that marriage didn't work out. Venus also rules money, so be aware that you might want to spend more now.  If you have planets in the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, you will feel the effects of this Venus retrograde the most intensely.

The second act on July 22 is the Sun entering the fixed fire sign of Leo.  The Sun rules Leo, so it is very comfortable and strong in the sign of Leo.  When the Sun is in Leo, we want to have fun, enjoy life and are feeling the urge to be romantic and creative.  We can also be more generous and playful.  We want to shine and be noticed.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Leo is a tendency towards self-centered behavior and let our ego run rampant.  But it should be a welcome relief after all of the emotional angst that the Sun in Cancer brought us.

On July 23, Chiron joins the retrograde party when it stations retrograde in 19 degrees of Aries.  Chiron will be retrograde until December 26, 2023, when it stations direct in 15 degrees of Aries.  Chiron is frequently referred to as the Wounded Healer.  When Chiron is retrograde, there is a stronger focus on inner healing.  I won't sugarcoat this one, it can be painful to confront those inner child wounds but it can ultimately bring great joy.  Chiron retrograde in Aries can force us to deal with whatever blockages we have pertaining to courage and self-assertion.  If you have any planets or points around 19 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you will be feeling this one.  Personally, it exactly squares my Cancer Midheaven and opposes my natal Ascendant in Libra.

I'd like to leave you with one really sweet aspect to anticipate.  On July 27, Mercury and Venus are conjunct in 28 degrees of Leo.  It will be easier to share our feelings of love.  It is a very cooperative and diplomatic vibe, so it can be an opportune time to smooth out any misunderstandings.  It can also be a boon for creativity and finances.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
