A Powerful Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio That Asks Us to Let Go and Venus Enters Cancer

 

This is it, folks - the big one is here.  At 1:34 p.m. on May 5, 2023, we have a Lunar Eclipse in 14 degrees of Scorpio. Lunar Eclipses tend to have themes of closure and completion and Scorpio is one of the most emotional signs of the zodiac.  Lunar eclipses are like Full Moons on steroids, so this is definitely a highly emotional time. Scorpio is also the most pessimistic of the water signs and tends to involve the past, the underworld and getting in touch with our inner demons.  Additionally, Scorpio is associated with secrets and scandals too.  And don't forget that Scorpio is also the sign of other people's money, so I wouldn't rule out the potential for some financial upheaval, especially with the Full Moon opposing Uranus in 18 degrees of Taurus.  The Full Moon is also opposing retrograde Mercury in 9 degrees of Taurus, which adds to the volatile news that circulates.

Another key theme with this Lunar Eclipse is surrender.  Many of us could find ourselves having to let go of whatever is not working in our lives.  Emotional release will be required. Eclipses are wild cards and we can never totally predict how they will play out.  The fact that Uranus in Taurus is opposing the Full Moon only serves to reinforce this.  Yes, we are entitled to have our intentions, but with an eclipse in Scorpio, we really need to let go of how we will get our needs met.  Try not to control how it manifests and trust that it will happen the way it is meant to.

We do have one particularly positive aspect on this Lunar Eclipse.  Venus in Gemini is exactly sextiling Jupiter in 27 degrees of Aries.  This aspect can create opportunities for luck, socializing and loving feelings.  It can also benefit us financially.  Just be mindful of a tendency towards excess with this one as Jupiter loves to expand whatever it touches.  And Mars in 21 degrees of Cancer is trining Neptune in 26 degrees of Pisces, which is also quite favorable.  It can help us act on our spiritual urges in a practical way.

I am heavily impacted by this eclipse.  There is no way that I am escaping its effects. The Full Moon in Scorpio falls at the end of my 1st house and is conjunct my Saturn in the 1st house, my Sun in the 2nd house and squares my Mars in Aquarius in the 4th house.  I have been dealing with feelings of anger and frustration for some time now, and it could very well erupt on this eclipse.  How could it not when both the Sun and Moon are squaring my Mars in Aquarius? Anyone who has planets in the mid-degrees of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will be taking some kind of hit from this eclipse.  You will feel its effects big time.  Some of you might have already started to feel it and it helps to know that its effects can linger for up to six weeks after the eclipse.

Venus departs the mutable sign of Gemini on May 7 to enter the cardinal water sign of Cancer.  It stays in Cancer until June 5.  Venus is very comfortable in Cancer and is more nurturing. Emotional security becomes more important to us and we are capable of achieving greater intimacy in relationships.  But right out of the gate, Venus in Cancer has a run-in with Pluto in Aquarius when it forms an irritating inconjunct to the planet associated with power and transformation.  Don't be surprised if a bout of defensiveness occurs.  When Venus is in Cancer, we tend to feel more vulnerable, sensitive and moody.

On May 9, the Sun and Uranus are exactly conjunct in 18 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect can deliver unsettling events and breakthroughs.  There could be flashes of insight as we continue to process the changes that transpired during the eclipse.  And the Sun conjunct Uranus can also generate a lot of nervous energy.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Venus Enters Gemini, Jupiter and Pluto Conjunction in Capricorn and a Full Moon in Libra

We have a rather busy week ahead of us astrologically.  On April 3, 2020, Venus enters the mutable air sign of Gemini until August 7, 2020 due to the upcoming Venus retrograde.  Venus stations retrograde in 21 degrees of Gemini on May 13, 2020 and stations direct in 5 degrees of Gemini on June 24, 2020.  On April 4, 2020, Jupiter and Pluto are conjunct in 24 degrees of Capricorn for the first of three Jupiter Pluto conjunctions of 2020.  The next two occur on June 29, 2020 and November 12, 2020.  And we have the biggest super full moon of the year in 18 degrees of Libra on April 7, 2020.

Venus in Gemini is usually considered to be a very social and communicative transit in which bonding occurs on a more mental level.  Intelligence is more appealing than physical attributes when Venus is transiting the air sign of Gemini.  Humor is also very important when Venus is in Gemini.  We need this quality during the Coronavirus pandemic, as it is forcing us to be social in less physical ways and we are forced to be more introspective about our relationships and finances.  The shadow side of Venus in Gemini is that it tends to be more fickle and finds it difficult to commit.  The fact that Venus will be retrograde in Gemini (the torn between two lovers archetype) from May through the end of June 2020 reinforces the theme of not making any major commitments such as marriage during this period.  Sorry to burst the bubble for anyone considering a June wedding.  Relationships and finances (Venus also rules money) are apt to be quite volatile during this transit.  Venus will be conjuncting my natal moon in Gemini in my 8^th house on April 22, 2020 and on July 19, 2020, so I am definitely in the crossfire of this Venus in Gemini transit.

On April 4, 2020, Jupiter and Pluto are conjunct in 24 degrees of Capricorn.  Jupiter is not very comfortable in the sign of Capricorn and when it is conjunct Pluto it will magnify Pluto’s penchant for digging deep into our psyches to unearth fears that have disempowered us in order to transform ourselves.  I think it’s pretty safe to say that we are all feeling pretty fearful these days with the Coronavirus because it has totally dismantled the structures of our lives.  Fear is raging yet we need to tap into our reserves of strength and courage to deal with situations that are totally out of our control.  I think that it goes without saying that we now realize that the Saturn Pluto conjunction in 22 degrees of Capricorn on January 12, 2020 has disrupted the old order   of things with the Coronavirus.  The Coronavirus was beginning its spread in China back then. Jupiter conjunct Pluto in Capricorn has a strong theme of large scale happenings as we face the collapse of the old order and we approach the peak of the pandemic in mid to late April 2020. 

It won’t be easy, but we need to remember that Pluto is deepening Jupiter’s capacity to develop more faith, hope and optimism during these challenging times. I am clinging to the hope that as Jupiter and Pluto separate in July 2020, due to Pluto stationing retrograde on April 25, 2020 in 26 degrees of Capricorn and Jupiter stationing retrograde on May 14, 2020 in 27 degrees of Capricorn, we can see a return to normalcy.

The Jupiter Pluto conjunction is exactly conjunct my natal Chiron in Capricorn in my 4^th house, and already I am feeling truly vulnerable. I am questioning if this is yet an opportunity to heal old wounds. Anyone who knows me well (and that is no easy feat with me being an intensely private Scorpio) knows that I don’t do vulnerable well.  I am inherently tough and defensive, but this pandemic has brought me to tears on more occasions than I care to admit and I confess to being scared.  I was watching 60 Minutes last week and totally resonated with what Brené Brown said about her difficulty with feeling vulnerable and the fact that we all have to admit that we are afraid in order to find courage and compassion for others.  I am also very mindful of the fact that the third Jupiter Pluto conjunction on November 12, 2020 occurs on my birthday in 22 degrees of Capricorn, which is the same degree of the Saturn Pluto conjunction in January.

On April 7, 2020 we have the biggest super full moon of the year in 18 degrees of Libra.  It’s called a super moon because the moon is extremely close to the earth.  I know that in my home state of Massachusetts, we have been told that the Coronavirus should reach its peak from April 7^th through April 17^th. I can’t sugarcoat the potential ramifications of this full moon; it will be a deeply emotional time. It will be extremely challenging because it is squaring that Jupiter Pluto conjunction in Capricorn and Mars in Aquarius will be squaring Uranus in Taurus, which is an aspect that screams the urge to break free from restriction and rebel against authority.  That is not exactly conducive energy these days when we are being asked to restrict our physical movements as a matter of life and death.  The fact that this full moon occurs in the relationship oriented sign of Libra further emphasizes the value we place on relationships, especially the relationship we have with ourselves. Libra is also associated with fairness, justice and balance.  This is a time when governments need to work to benefit the people, not just corporations. 

Personally, I have always found the annual full moon in Libra to be one of the more challenging full moons but this year that is especially true due to the Coronavirus and the fact that the full moon in 18 degrees of Libra conjuncts my ascendant in 16 degrees of Libra and squares my midheaven in 19 degrees of Cancer.  I am trying to have some gratitude for the fact that this full moon trines my Mars in Aquarius and my Gemini moon.  Maybe that grand air trine will work for me if I exert some effort…

An Action Packed Week with an Ultra-Sensitive Full Moon in Pisces, Mercury and Venus Moving into Libra and Saturn Stationing Direct

We are headed into a very active week astrologically.  It starts on September 14, 2019 on the east coast of the United States with a full moon in 21 degrees of Pisces at 12:33 a.m.  Pisces is probably the most sensitive of all the water signs, but this full moon is even more sensitive due to its conjunction to its ruling planet Neptune in 17 degrees of Pisces.  Emotions will come to a head and we can expect a great deal of feeling, compassion, creativity and psychic sensitivity. Pay attention to your intuition on this full moon with its conjunction to Neptune.  It holds the promise of being a very inspirational and idealistic full moon.

Neptune has been extremely active and disruptive in its own right during the past week.  On September 7, 2019, Mercury in Virgo opposed Neptune in Pisces, inspiring me to tweet:

And on September 10, 2019, the Virgo sun opposed Neptune in Pisces.  On that day I tweeted:

There is a lot of other activity going on with this full moon.  In addition to the sun and moon in Virgo, Mars, Mercury and Venus are all in Virgo for the full moon.  The sun is actually conjunct Mars, which can be pretty volatile energy, but it can be used constructively to be proactive, inspiring us to take the initiative and manifest our desires.  There are strong themes of compassion and service to others with all of this Virgo energy.  We have eight planets in earth signs; in addition to the Virgo planets, we have Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, and Uranus in Taurus, which is a lot of practical energy. Saturn in Capricorn is trining the sun and Mars in Virgo, which is an extremely favorable influence for manifesting long-term goals. Uranus in Taurus is actually unaspected during this full moon, so Uranus is running on a full tank in terms of its disruptive potential though.  We also have Mercury in Virgo conjunct Venus in 29 degrees of Virgo squaring Jupiter in Sagittarius and opposing Neptune in Pisces, so we may have to be careful to speak gently and diplomatically with this configuration.  We don’t want to wind up saying anything we regret later on.  But the fact that all of these Virgo planets, accompanied by the moon and Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Sagittarius, lends a great deal of mutable energy which helps us to embrace and enjoy the changes that are inevitable. With Mars in 17 degrees of Virgo, we also need to be aware that anyone with planets in 14 to 17 degrees of the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will probably feel driven to be of compassionate service to others.  I’m sure that I will be feeling this energy acutely with my moon in 14 degrees of Gemini.  Don’t be surprised if some secrets are revealed with the full moon conjunct Neptune in Pisces and with the ongoing Jupiter/Neptune square, set to be exact on September 21^st, these secrets could pertain to legal matters.

Mercury moves into Libra at 3:14 a.m. on September 14, 2019 and it remains in Libra until October 3, 2019.  Mercury in Libra brings a diplomatic, friendly and rational approach to communications. It is a fabulous opportunity for healing rifts in relationships because when Mercury is transiting the sign of Libra we are inclined to engage in people pleasing and we have the ability to consider other points of view and make fair decisions.  The shadow side of Mercury in Libra is that we can have a tendency to vacillate, have difficulty in making decisions and accommodate others too easily.

Venus is right behind Mercury and enters Libra at 9:43 a.m. on September 14, 2019 and stays in Libra until October 8, 2019. Venus is right at home in Libra because it rules both Libra and Taurus.  When Venus is transiting Libra, love is in the air, and we tend to be polite, more cooperative in relationships, charming and idealistic.  We are also more apt to crave the latest fashion styles and luxury items.  But the shadow side of Venus in Libra is the tendency to be superficial, dependent and inconsistent.

On September 18, 2019, Saturn stations direct in 13 degrees of Capricorn. Saturn has been retrograde since April 29, 2019, which may seem like an eternity for many of us.  If you have felt like certain projects have been stalled, Saturn in direct motion will bring some forward movement in these areas.  The pace will really pick up, especially around September 28^th when Saturn is 2 degrees away from the south node of the moon in Capricorn, which will bring up issues of responsibility and working hard.  If you have been responsible and working hard for the past few months, you will start to reap the rewards of your efforts. Material success and recognition may be forthcoming in the next couple of months.  But don’t forget that Saturn is the Great Teacher and the Lord of Karma, so if you have been slacking off, Saturn can bring down some form of retribution for lack of efforts.  Saturn brings you what you deserve and have earned, so be mindful of that and if you need to change course, learn that lesson.

The Sun Moves into Aries and a Super Full Moon in Libra

Saturn in Capricorn and Mars in Taurus are paving the way for a powerful Super Full Moon in Libra on March 20, 2019, the same day that the sun enters Aries.  Saturn in Capricorn trined Mars in Taurus in 18 degrees of their respective signs on March 14, 2019, inspiring me to tweet:

Saturn trining Mars is providing stable and grounded earth energy to help us make our dreams a reality if we apply ourselves. Mars in Taurus is nothing if not persistent and able to go the distance to arrive at its destination.  It doesn’t mind taking its time, it’s patient, unlike the previous sign of Aries.  And Mars in Taurus will be giving us another boost of energy on March 20, 2019, the day of the full moon in Libra, when it forms an easy, favorable flowing trine to Pluto in Capricorn in 22 degrees of their respective signs. It provides the fuel and the power to act on eliminating obstacles to success without causing conflict and maintaining a sense of harmony that is in perfect alignment with that full moon in Libra.

On March 20, 2019, the sun enters the sign of Aries at 5:58 p.m. and the astrological New Year literally begins because Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It is the Spring Equinox and the first day of spring.  We will be feeling the need to let go of the past and the future so that we can live in the moment.  That is sage advice for everyone in these turbulent times.  When the sun is in the sign of Aries, we are motivated by a desire to conquer, we’re more impulsive and have a strong urge to initiate.  This is cardinal fire energy and you can’t ignore it.  We will have more courage but the potential downside is that we can be short sighted and unable to plan ahead because we are unable to see the big picture.  But the energy is strong for new beginnings.

The moon enters the sign of Libra at 9:28 p.m. and the full moon occurs fifteen minutes later at 9:43 p.m.  This is going to be a very powerful super full moon for several reasons.  For starters, it’s a super full moon because it is so close to the earth, the third this year—the first occurred on January 21, 2019 and the second occurred on February 19, 2019.  It’s also the fifth full moon in 0 degrees of a sign, which tends to amplify the theme of endings and new beginnings.  We are in the process of transitioning from the old to new in the power structures of our society.  Secrets can come to light during this full moon. Anyone who has planets in 28-29 of the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces and in 0-2 of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn will feel the effects of this full moon big time.

A full moon in Libra is bound to have serious implications in relationships, something that Libra is all about.  The full moon in 0 degrees of Libra forms an irritating inconjunct with Uranus in 0 degrees of Taurus.  Be mindful of the fact that there will probably be a buildup of nervous tension that can be accompanied by irritability, mood swings and emotional outbursts.  Adjustments (the key word and only way of coping with an inconjunct aspect) may be necessary in relationships with women.  The full moon inconjunct Uranus could also indicate meeting someone new and unusual or eccentric but be aware that this person might be a very disruptive influence in your life.  And don’t act too impulsively.

There are a lot of other aspects in play during this full moon.  The sun in Aries is conjunct Chiron in Aries, which can have a very healing influence on relationships.   Retrograde Mercury in Pisces is forming a supportive sextile to Saturn in Capricorn which can help mitigate the tension caused by Uranus by providing clear thinking and good judgement.   Venus in 23 degrees of Aquarius is exactly square Mars in 23 degrees of Taurus on the full moon, and this can manifest in sexual frustration and competitive tension.  It could also play out as a conflict between having freedom and the desire to maintain stability in relationships.   But Venus in Aquarius is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius, which will bring good luck and generosity.  Love and affection may prevail and help heal relationships.  All is not lost when these two benefics are in alignment.  And don’t forget that Mars and Pluto, those two heavyweights, are playing nice in the astrological sandbox with a flowing trine on the day of the full moon.

A Solar Eclipse in Leo Caps Off Eclipse Season

The final eclipse of 2018 may be a partial solar eclipse, unlike the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, which was also known as the Great American Eclipse, but it will by no means be inconsequential because it also a Supermoon. It will occur on August 11, 2018 in 18 degrees of Leo at 5:58 a.m.

Leo is the sign that rules the heart and love. This eclipse will feature themes of love, creative self-actualization and making choices from our heart.  It will be a time to explore the path of your heart’s desires. There is a new state of awareness coming and it is futile to resist it.  This eclipse is also a repeat of a solar eclipse that occurred on August 11, 1999 in 18 degrees of Leo.  If you are old enough to remember it, I encourage you to reflect on your soul’s growth in the past 19 years because there could definitely be some themes repeated or even closure of a cycle in your life.  I can tell you that this eclipse will bring sudden, radical shifts as it can result in a collapse of existing structures and the rebuilding will have far reaching effects.  And the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel it the most.

The astrological panorama for this solar eclipse is intense, to say the least.  For starters, it features seven (7) retrograde planets: Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Chiron, Pluto and Uranus, which stationed retrograde on August 7, 2018, inspiring me to tweet:

Eclipses are always considered to be wild card energy, but this one is particularly Uranian because it occurs only four days after Uranus stationed retrograde.  Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus is also squaring the north node in 5 degrees of Leo and the south node in 5 degrees of Aquarius.  The bottom line with Uranus squaring the nodal axis on the day of a solar eclipse of this magnitude is that it will have a major impact on our collective future destiny.  Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus is also trining Saturn in 3 degrees of Capricorn.  While trines are usually considered to be favorable aspects, the diametrically opposed natures of these two planets are not exactly compatible. They are literally a clash of viewpoints. Uranus craves freedom and Saturn is all about preserving the status quo.  This can play out in a real stop and go type of vibe in which it feels difficult to make any progress.  But the saving grace of this aspect is that if we exercise patience and diligence (Saturn) we can achieve the change we desire (Uranus).

The solar eclipse in 18 degrees of Leo also squares Jupiter in 14 degrees of Scorpio.  Since Jupiter loves to amplify anything it touches, count on it to magnify our feelings and we may be prone to overreacting, especially with the sun and moon in Leo, a sign that loves drama.

We do have one especially nice aspect featured in this solar eclipse: the ongoing trine of Jupiter in Scorpio to Neptune in Pisces.  This is a marvelous aspect for instilling compassion and faith.  Meditation, reflection and soul searching are favored with this aspect.

There is an extremely fated quality about this eclipse because it features a yod involving Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn and Neptune in 15 degrees of Pisces.  Pluto and Neptune are forming a supportive sextile with each other but both are forming an irritating inconjunct with the sun and moon in Leo. Pluto’s role in this eclipse contains themes of transformation and loss while recognizing our fears and adjusting our behavior to adapt to the ever changing and challenging circumstances that we face.  And there will be issues of authority with Pluto involved.  We will have lessons to learn regarding personal will and power in terms of letting go of our ego as learn to rule with Neptune’s compassion while utilizing Pluto’s insight to incorporate our spiritual values into our use of personal power.  There is a very mystical feeling with this yod.  It is also a fabulous opportunity to change our emotional patterns to support the changes and move forward.

Don’t forget to set a new intention on the day of the solar eclipse because it is literally a new moon, even if I tend to refer to solar eclipses as new moons on steroids.  And the same holds true for lunar eclipses; they are like full moons on steroids.  Take a look at what house this eclipse falls in your chart and set a new intention through prayer, meditation, affirmations or whatever ritual you feel comfortable with.  This eclipse falls in my 11^th house, so I should be setting new intentions for my goals and social networks.   It is also squaring my natal sun and Venus in Scorpio and opposing my natal Mars in Aquarius.  So I am not kidding when I say that this solar eclipse will affect fixed signs.
