Uranus Retrograde and New Moon in Leo Inspires Us as Mars Re-enters Sagittarius

Uranus in Aries is stationing retrograde in 24 degrees on July 29, 2016 and will remain retrograde until December 29, 2016. Uranus retrograde does not mean that sudden events will stop happening; whenever a planet stations its energy is intensified. But it is a clear indicator that calls for inner changes in response to these unpredictable external events that seem to be perpetual and endless. Uranus is all about our inner rebel and the desire for freedom.  Uranus retrograde is a time to shift and rearrange our attitudes.  It can bring growth through healthy self-assertion in whatever area of life Uranus is impacting.

Uranus retrograde is not nearly as disruptive as Mercury retrograde (which will be happening again on August 30th—just thought I would give you a heads up) nor as unusual as Venus or Mars retrograde, which occur every 18 months and 2 years, respectively.  We just came out of a particularly grueling Mars retrograde period. Because Uranus is retrograde for five months every year, approximately 40% of the population has it natally.  I am a proud member of that tribe with it retrograde in my 10th house of career and public standing.  It is a major reason why I felt compelled to pursue a career as an astrologer, psychic and healer.

Do you know which house of your chart Uranus is transiting?  If not, consider getting an astrological reading with me.  Before Uranus stations direct in 20 degrees of Aries in December, it will trigger issues from April 2016.  Food for thought… What areas of life were you experiencing the need for freedom back then?  You will have a chance for a literal do-over before this Uranus retrograde period is over.

On August 2, 2016 we will have a new moon in 11 degrees of Leo.  This new moon can be a source of inspiration because Leo is associated with fun, play, passion, creativity and expressing our emotions in a more heart-centered fashion. And the sun is in its home sign of Leo, so its emphasis on fun, play and creativity is enhanced.  New moons are always about new beginnings and opportunities for fresh starts. Neptune in Pisces will be inconjunct that new moon, so our dreams will be a key player.  But the inconjunct alludes to some adjustments in making those dreams a reality. Fortunately, we are blessed by Saturn in Sagittarius trining that new moon in Leo.  I bet you never thought you would hear me say Saturn is blessing us, right?  That seems to be more of Jupiter’s domain, n’est pas?   Saturn is literally rewarding us for our patience and diligence by presenting the potential for practical solutions to the hardships that have been generated by the ongoing Saturn in Sagittarius Neptune in Pisces square.  Saturn trining the new moon lends support and stability to our goals.

Sweetening the effects of this new moon in Leo on August 2, 2016 is the fact that Mars moves into Sagittarius on that day.  It will remain in Sagittarius until September 27, 2016.  The Mars retrograde period we experienced earlier this year started in Sagittarius on April 17th, so we are going to get a chance to move forward on whatever issues we were facing back then and get unstuck.  Don’t get me wrong, I was delighted when Mars stationed direct in 23 degrees of Scorpio on June 29th, but while Mars in Scorpio is strong, it has its pitfalls too.  If you are curious about the intensity of the Mars in Scorpio transit, I highly recommend that you check out Michael Lutin’s weekly observations at:

Listen to his weekly message about how Mars in Scorpio relates to the Saturn in Scorpio transit of 2012-2015.  It is very enlightening.

Mars in Sagittarius has the courage to fight for its ideals and when it catches up to Saturn in Sagittarius on August 24, 2016, we should have a strong foundation for moving forward.  I know that many people, myself included, felt that 2016 was stalled and put on hold during the Mars retrograde, but with Mars moving back into Sagittarius, we have a chance to grab onto the gusto of that fire energy because it fuels us with motivation and energy to make some real progress in our lives. I am heartened by the fact that Mars and Saturn will be working together by the end of August and not at cross purposes.  This is extremely relevant and encouraging to me personally because I have a natal Mars Saturn square and I know first-hand how challenging it is when these two juggernauts are not playing nice in the sandbox.

Uranus in Aries - the Great Awakener or Bully

Uranus in Aries remains strong and is definitely making its presence known these days in the form of disruptive and chaotic events.  It seems like every week we hear about shocking acts of violence, from the Orlando nightclub massacre, the shooting of Alton Sterling by police in Baton Rouge, shootings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, the Bastille Day attack in Nice, France and the attempted coup in Turkey.

On July 14th, the day of the Nice attack, I tweeted:

“Mars in Scorpio inconjunct Uranus in Aries today is a real astrological wild card.  Irritation prevails & buttons get pushed.”

I’m sure that I am not the first, nor will I be the last astrologer, to question the historical implications of Uranus in Aries. I checked the ephemeris to see when the last time Uranus was in 24 degrees of Aries.  Uranus has a slow moving cycle, approximately 84 years, so clearly it was not a time when I was alive and could recall what was happening.  Uranus was last in 20-24 degrees of Aries from February through May of 1933. I mention the 20 degrees of Aries because Uranus is poised to station retrograde on July 29, 2016.

What was happening in the world during 1933?  Plenty.  For starters, 1933 is widely considered to be the worst year of the Great Depression. In 1933  Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated President of the United States and Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and opened the first concentration camp in Dachau.  Do you see where I am going with this theme of Uranus functioning as the great awakener or the bully?  President Franklin Roosevelt is credited for implementing many social policies and programs that restored order to the United States while Adolf Hitler became reviled as the bully who responsible for the genocide of six million Jews and the instigator of World War 2.

We are currently still reeling from the effects of the Uranus Pluto squares of 2012-2015.  Interestingly enough, Uranus in Aries had squared Pluto in Cancer from August 1932 through December 1934.  Having both of these planets in the action oriented cardinal signs during both 1933 and now provides common ground for concern regarding the sweeping changes that the interaction of Uranus and Pluto in a challenging aspect can manifest.  In the 1930’s the world experienced troubling economic hardships and saw the rise of dictators which eventually led to World War 2. The Great Depression was a global phenomenon and today we are once again in the midst of economic uncertainty and political unrest. The United Kingdom has a new prime minister after the controversial Brexit vote to withdraw England from the European Union and the United States is currently embroiled in one of the most contentious presidential elections in its history.  This week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland is ample evidence of Uranus in Aries in action.  It has certainly been a chaos filled week that no one could have predicted.

Uranus in Aries pretty much guarantees a wide array of social changes coming and resistance is futile, just in case you haven’t figured that out in the past five years since Uranus entered Aries in 2011.  In the 1930’s Uranus in Aries was squaring Pluto in Cancer, which had a very different feel than Pluto in Capricorn.  I remember that when I began my study of astrology in the 1980’s, my astrology teacher, who was born with Pluto in Cancer, spoke about how the Pluto in Cancer generation weathered the storms of trying to transform the family structure while simultaneously preserving it.  She grew up in that tumultuous period and told her students many stories of families trying to stay together against tough economic odds.  This was really a time of family values, since Cancer is associated with family.  But Pluto in Capricorn is all about government, authority figures, power and financial structures.  It has a very different vibe and that is probably a contributing factor to the massive changes we are seeing in government these days, as well as the prevailing dissatisfaction with the status quo.  The challenge that we face with Pluto in Capricorn is to transform our government while simultaneously preserving its basic principles.

In addition to Pluto being in the opposite sign of Cancer in the 1930’s, Neptune was in its opposite sign of Virgo. Currently Neptune is in Pisces.  Neptune was in Virgo from August 1929 through September 1942 and again from April through July of 1943.  Neptune was previously in Virgo during the American Revolution when Pluto was also in Capricorn. The plot thickens… When Neptune is in Virgo, there can literally be a cloudiness or good old fashioned Neptunian fog between emotions and reason.  Service to others is emphasized through the Virgo placement, but there is also a tendency to be overly critical and a need to be mindful of the toll negative emotions can have on us. The nodes of the moon were in opposite signs as well during 1933.  The north node of the moon was in Pisces then and now it is in its opposite sign of Virgo.

We are literally at a crossroads now in terms of deciding on the sweeping changes that will affect our future.  Will we learn valuable lessons from the astrological history of 1933 and make wise decisions in 2016? The time is certainly ripe for another American Revolution and we need to ensure that our choices lead to awakened, enlightened changes and not those that are characterized by repressive bullying.  I don’t believe that anyone in their right mind wants to return to an America that was at war with leaders who tried to destroy the human race. The upcoming presidential election in the United States will prove to be a major turning point in this country’s direction. Many people have described Donald Trump as a bully and we need to decide if this is true or if he represents the kind of change that will best serve us in the coming years.

The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. Uranus Lends an Unpredictable Vibe to Capricorn Full Moon

Uranus in Aries is lending an unpredictable vibe to the upcoming Full Moon in Capricorn on July 19, 2016.  I know that many of you may think I have been preaching to the choir when I comment that the Uranus Pluto square of 2012-2015 is being activated this summer, but I have ample proof of it.  On July 18, 2016, the moon in Capricorn will conjunct Pluto in 15 degrees of Capricorn.  And on July 19th, the full moon in 27 degrees of Capricorn will square Uranus in 24 degrees of Aries.  The Cancer sun is emphasizing the Uranus Pluto square with the potential for sudden, disruptive events.  Old paradigms are being challenged as a battle ensues between the need for freedom versus control.  Uranus wants freedom and Pluto wants control.

Is it an astrological coincidence that the Republican National Convention begins on July 18, 2016?  I think not.  On that day the moon in Capricorn will conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, and I have no doubt there will be some power struggles ensuing during this convention.  And then we have a full moon in 27 degrees of Capricorn on July 19th which features both the sun in Cancer and moon in Capricorn squaring Uranus.

This is one loaded full moon.  The sun in Cancer represents our desire for emotional security, while Pluto in Capricorn represents our practical security in the form of government.  It’s no secret that we are dealing with a strong desire for freedom and change in this country, and many people feel the palpable instability. This could very well lead to taking some very big risks to ensure that freedom and change emerge victorious.  The election year of 2016 is quite unique and we haven’t gotten through the conventions yet, despite the fact that we have presumptive nominees for both parties.   But I also remember that the last time Pluto in Capricorn was during the American Revolution of 1776, so upheaval seems to be the name of the game politically. It’s no secret that Donald Trump has not exactly been warmly embraced or endorsed by the Republican Party so far, but he certainly typifies the Uranian energy that wants change in this country. But many question if the change he purports to symbolize is merely a return to the old outworn structures of government.  Time will tell…

One ongoing aspect that underpins the political scene is the Saturn in Sagittarius/Neptune in Pisces square.  It began on November 26, 2015, was exact again on June 17, 2016 and the final hit will occur on September 10, 2016 in 10 degrees of both signs. But its effects will be felt through October 2016.  A major theme of the Saturn Neptune square is making our dreams real by testing the truth.  Both in the United States and in the United Kingdom, the truth and integrity of our leaders are being tested.  Saturn loves to test; it is after all, the Lord of Karma and the Great Teacher.

While Uranus is definitely a major, albeit disruptive, player in this full moon, we can’t discount the more positive aspects that accompany it.  The full moon in 27 degrees of Capricorn does activate a Grand Water Trine involving the Sun in Cancer, Mars in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces.  This is a deeply healing aspect embodying the themes of security, trust and acceptance of our deepest emotions.  If you have any water planets in 25 to 27 degrees, you will definitely be carried in the emotional tide of this full moon.  I have my Venus in Scorpio and a Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Cancer, so I am trying to remain as open as possible to whatever surprises occur during this full moon.  I literally have to walk my talk, so to speak!

Another positive aspect that this full moon in Capricorn makes is a trine to Jupiter in 20 degrees of Virgo, which sextiles Mars in 25 degrees of Scorpio and Chiron in 25 degrees of Pisces.  And Jupiter is trining Pluto in Capricorn to boot, so anyone with planets in 15-20 degrees of the earth signs may benefit through growth opportunities and abundance.

We do have a saving grace protecting us and guiding us in the form of the north node in Virgo conjunct Jupiter in Virgo.  We just have to keep the faith that whatever turmoil we experience is leading us into the place that our soul needs to be. The north node in Virgo has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off and can also be described as a spa for the soul to boot!   Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

Pluto Packs a Punch and Uranus Kicks it Up a Notch in New Moon Aftermath

The new moon in 13 degrees of Cancer on July 4, 2016 may have had some sweet aspects that I discussed in last week’s blog, but I think that I was truly psychic when I tweeted this on July 4th:

“Only potential astrological fireworks today is Cancer #NewMoon opposing Pluto in Capricorn.  Don’t engage in power struggles at home.”

I can honestly say that I didn’t see it coming and greatly underestimated the power and intensity of that aspect on July 4th.  I enjoyed the holiday for the most part but did receive an email late in the day that reflected that kind of power struggle energy and Cancer type moodiness and venting.  I also heard about two women getting into huge fights with their mothers which is vintage Pluto moon aspect.  I generally love this time of year when the sun is in Cancer, but I guess that I forgot how moody, sensitive and self-protective Cancer can be.  Every sign has its positive and negative traits, and those are Cancer’s negative traits.  And if anyone had planets or points in the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn that were set off by that new moon in 13 degrees of Cancer, the potential for explosions was rife.  My Libra ascendant and Cancer midheaven took a hit.

Mars in Scorpio is forming a very uncomfortable inconjunct aspect with Uranus in Aries from July 5-14, 2016.  Now that Mars is direct in Scorpio, everything is moving at a faster pace and anger is erupting. Adjustments are always required with inconjuncts, and I have always loved the way astrologer Dietrech Pessin describes it as “life’s messy, clean it up aspect. It is truly nerve wracking, tension filled and can also manifest in difficulty sleeping.  Mea culpa on that front. I have heard similar stories from friends and clients on that score.

On July 6th I awoke to a message on my phone that someone had tried to hack my email account.  Nerve wracking?  You bet, because it took me three attempts to change my password successfully on my devices before the issue was resolved.  The Sun and Mercury may have been conjunct in Cancer, but it did not make me feel very nurturing, just extremely moody and upset because my mode of communication was threatened and I felt very vulnerable.

The cosmic fun continued with both Pluto and Uranus on July 7, 2016.  My tweets reflected the energy of the day:

“Power struggles with authority figures are possible today with both Mercury and Sun in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn,”

“Venus in Cancer squaring Uranus in Aries today can make us edgy and anxious in relationships and in general. Angst prevails.”

The actions of Pluto and Uranus seem to be triggering a lot of the angst and turmoil from the famous (or should I say infamous) Uranus Pluto squares that predominated the astrological climate of 2012-2015.  Uranus is definitely making us edgy but at least Mercury and Venus will be departing the sign of Cancer soon.  Mercury enters Leo on July 13th and Venus follows suit on July 14th.  Mercury in Leo will add humor and charm to our mode of communication and Venus will be in a very generous, fun-loving mode in Leo.  Hopefully this will alleviate some of the tension we have been experiencing and give us a temporary reprieve and breathing space before Uranus in Aries clashes with the Sun in Cancer with a square aspect on July 16th.  Look to where 24 degrees of Cancer, Aries, Capricorn or Libra fall in your chart to see how it will impact you.  Or let me do the work for you by having an astrological reading.

We do have a saving grace protecting us and guiding us in the form of the north node in Virgo conjunct Jupiter in Virgo.  We just have to keep the faith that whatever turmoil we experience is leading us into the place that our soul needs to be. New Moon and Mercury in Cancer

We are deeply entrenched in the season of Cancer these days, with the Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Cancer now and a new moon in Cancer coming up for July 4, 2016. Mercury entered Cancer on June 29, 2016, inspiring me to tweet:

“Communication takes on a more emotional tone today as Mercury enters Cancer, joining the Sun & Venus.  It’s a softer vibe.”

When Mercury is in Cancer reality is perceived through an emotional lens.  Mercury may be at home in Gemini, but it was a pretty frenetic pace.  The vibe definitely got lighter when Venus and the Sun left Gemini recently.  One of my clients even commented last week that she was so relieved that Gemini season was over and I must confess that I agreed with her.  It tends to be a calmer, gentler, more nurturing time when the Sun and Venus are in Cancer and Mercury lends its support to that energy.

Mercury in Cancer is all about sentimentality and being drawn to the past.  Our emotions tend to pull us back in time.  I don’t know about you, but I have been reflecting a lot lately on my childhood and the memories seem to be filtered through a softer lens empowering me to remember the good times.

I find it supremely ironic that Mercury entered the sign of Cancer only about 15 minutes earlier than Mars stationed direct in 23 degrees of Scorpio on June 29th.  There is no doubt in my mind that this happened for a very cosmic reason in terms of the healing process. When Mars stationed direct, it was right on my Venus in the 2nd house and exactly trining my Mercury in the 1st house.  I was blown away by Michael Lutin’s take on the Mars station, so on June 28, 2016 and felt compelled to share it, so I tweeted:

"For insight on the Mars Station, check out Michael Lutin's video on #MarsDirect:

The new moon in Cancer occurs on July 4, 2016 in 13 degrees of Cancer.  It holds the promise of a sweet loving feeling and the potential for lots of emotional healing with seven planets in water signs.  That’s right folks, in addition to the Sun, Mercury, Moon and Venus in Cancer, Chiron and Neptune are in Pisces and Mars is strong and reenergized with its newly direct status in Scorpio. It is a perfect time to set a new intention emotionally. The nodes of the moon are key players in this new moon as well, because the new moon sextiles the north node of the moon in Virgo and trines the south node in Pisces.  This energy enhances the theme of emotional healing by integrating the past with the future.

What are the other planets up to on the new moon in Cancer on July 4, 2016?  Plenty! Mercury in Cancer is involved in a cardinal T-square with Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries on this new moon in Cancer, which can trigger deep thinking and a powerful awakening. Venus in Cancer is also opposing Pluto in Capricorn and squaring off with Uranus in Aries.  This can add the themes of power, security, familiarity, freedom and risk taking to the mix.  Pluto opposing that new moon in Cancer may very well trigger some power struggles in world relationships. Quite literally it provides the backdrop for an astrological set of fireworks.

Now that Mars in Scorpio is direct, it is wasting no time in taking action and it also features heavily in the planetary action of this Cancer new moon.  Mars will be sextiling Jupiter in Virgo through July 9, 2016, which can help attract money and make the most of business opportunities if we are willing to work hard for it.  Mars is also sextiling Pluto in Capricorn through July 11, 2016 and this provides intense motivation to reach our goals by favoring business expansion and money making opportunities.  Pluto in Capricorn has been forming a flowing trine to Jupiter in Virgo which is also conjunct the north node and this screams opportunity for empowerment and change.

The new moon in Cancer also sets the stage for a profoundly emotional healing period involving a Grand Water Trine with the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Cancer trining Mars in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces through the first half of July.  If you have any water planets in 23-26 degrees of these water signs, you will undoubtedly feel its influence big time.

On a personal level, this new moon in 13 degrees of Cancer trines my Saturn in Scorpio and conjuncts my south node in Cancer in the 9th house.  I feel like my faith is being restored in terms of breaking through past blockages and limitations.

If you are wondering how this new moon is affecting you, I highly encourage you to get an astrological reading, even if you just want a quick update on your transits for the next few months.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205. Additionally, I see clients at my home in Newton, Massachusetts and am generally available on weekends and evenings for your convenience.

If you are seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. An astrological reading can provide valuable insight and tools.  If you are not quite ready for a full blown natal interpretation or a solar return forecast, I also offer one question astrological readings and composite couple readings that offer insight into the purpose of a relationship. And I offer shorter transit readings for three and six months which might help you navigate the summer months a little easier. If you purchase a six month transit reading, I will even look at how September’s eclipses affect you! You can learn more about my menu of astrological services, including the opportunity to provide a donation in the amount of your choice to demonstrate your support for my blog and daily astrological insights on Twitter at:

A contribution in any amount is greatly appreciated.
