Mars Retrograde, Venus Enters Aquarius and Neptune Goes Direct in Pisces

 

We have yet another week of heavy astrological action ahead of us.  On December 6, Mars stations retrograde in 6 degrees of Leo.  Mars is retrograde approximately every two years, and we can expect delays in our progress towards our goals and desires when it occurs.  Mars retrograde can also deplete our physical energy. The last time that Mars was retrograde occurred from October 30, 2022 through January 12, 2023 and it was in Gemini the whole time. I remember that period well because I contracted COVID for the second time on October 31, 2022.

This Mars retrograde will be a bit more complicated because it starts out in Leo, but moves back into Cancer on January 6, 2025 before it stations direct in 17 degrees of Cancer on February 22, 2025.  It doesn't help matters that we are undergoing a Mercury retrograde at the same time. When Mars is retrograde, we need to review and reassess our relationship with aggression and drive.  Frustration abounds as we are confronted with all of those things that have been aggravating us recently.  Like it or not, we need to surrender to the moment and accept that progress is not going to happen on our timetable.  Mars is more comfortable in the fixed fire sign of Leo, but it will be opposing Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on January 3, 2025, which can set the stage for some ego clashes, power struggles and obstacles.  Mars will be in Cancer from January 6, 2025 through April 18, 2025.  Mars was previously in Cancer from September 4, 2024 through November 3, 2024, so don't be surprised if issues from that period resurface.  Simmering emotional resentments are common when Mars is in Cancer, as is passive-aggressive behavior.  Mars is not a happy camper in the cardinal water sign of Cancer and could be described as a whiny warrior.  Family issues could set us off while Mars is retrograde in Cancer, so try to use this transit constructively to set healthier boundaries with relatives.  And it goes without saying that anyone with Aries rising or Sun will feel the brunt of this Mars retrograde because Mars rules Aries.  The same can be said for Scorpio rising and Sun too because Mars was considered the ruler of Scorpio until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  Mars is still very closely associated with the sign of Scorpio.

On December 7, we have two more major astrological events.  Venus enters Aquarius at 1:13 a.m. and Neptune stations direct in 27 degrees of Pisces at 6:43 p.m.  When Venus is in Aquarius, we are drawn to more unconventional relationships and crave freedom of expression.  Friends can become lovers and there is an air of emotional detachment present.  Venus will also be conjuncting Pluto in Aquarius on the 7th, so don't be surprised if the urge for an intense conjunction is stronger, but be mindful not to be too possessive, jealous or obsessive.  Then Venus in Aquarius will be opposing Mars in 6 degrees of Leo on December 12, which can increase the level of sexual tension and physical desires.  If you don't have a sexual partner, try to release the tension through exercise or creative endeavors.  Venus will be in Aquarius until January 2, 2025.

Neptune has been retrograde in Pisces since July 2, 2024 and when it stations direct it is time to allow compassion and selflessness out into the world.  But there could be even more confusion and a desire for escapism. That is the way Neptune in Pisces rolls.  Whenever a planet stations, either direct or retrograde, its power is magnified.  And since Neptune has such a nebulous quality, you never know if it will manifest as confusion or the higher levels of spirituality.  It should be interesting...

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mercury and Venus Change Signs While Neptune Goes Direct

 

We are coming off an intense Full Moon in Gemini that occurred on November 27, when I posted:

I hope you all survived it because Mercury in Sagittarius was also squaring Neptune in Pisces on that day.  The big news now is that Mercury moves into Capricorn on December 1 and stays there until December 23.  But we do have a Mercury retrograde that starts on December 12 in 8 degrees of Capricorn.  Mercury is stationing retrograde right on my North Node in Capricorn in my 3rd house, so this one should be interesting, to say the least...Mercury moves back into Sagittarius on December 23 and stations direct in 22 degrees of Sagittarius on January 1, 2024.  Happy New Year! Mercury moves back into Capricorn on January 13, 2024 and stays there until February 5, 2024.

What can we expect when Mercury is transiting the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn? Our ideas are more realistic, practical and down-to-earth when Mercury is in Capricorn.  Thinking and communication can be more methodical and rational.  We will definitely be more direct in our style of communication, but not in the blunt style of Mercury in Sagittarius. However, Mercury in Sagittarius will return in time for the holidays.  But the shadow side of Mercury in Capricorn is a tendency towards rigid thinking, pessimism and an authoritarian style of getting our point across.

Venus, the other planet that travels so closely to the Sun, is getting ready to change signs too.  It makes one last major aspect when Venus in Libra squares Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn on December 3.  Venus rules Libra and is very comfortable there, but there is no doubt that Venus squaring Pluto is a challenging aspect. Venus squaring Pluto can see us questioning our worth in relationships while it is accompanied by struggle, conflict and control issues.  I can personally attest to the fact that is a tough aspect because I have it natally with my Venus in Scorpio squaring Pluto in Leo.  Venus has a bit of an edge and more power when it is in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn, so don't be surprised if there is a rebalancing of power in relationships on this day.

On December 4, Venus moves into Scorpio and stays there until December 29, 2023.  Venus is considered to be in detriment in Scorpio because Venus rules Taurus and Libra.  It will be a big change from Venus in Libra.  Venus in Scorpio is not into lightweight dating and craves deep, passionate and intense relationships.  Profound intimacy is the end game with Venus in Scorpio.  Be prepared for a roller coaster ride in your love life while Venus is cruising through Scorpio. The perk of Venus in Scorpio is that it can be good for finances, as Scorpio is associated with other people's money and the 8th house. 

Neptune stationed retrograde in 27 degrees of Pisces on June 30, 2023 and it will finally go direct in 24 degrees of Pisces on December 6, 2023.  It you have any planets from 24-27 degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, you probably felt this transit the most intensely.  I also think that if you have planets in these degrees of Cancer or Scorpio, you received a trine aspect from this transit and also felt it to some degree.  Personally, my Venus in Scorpio and Uranus in Cancer (both of which are retrograde to boot) got this transit.

When Neptune was retrograde it was a period of confusion, introspection and spiritual exploration.  It could have been a time of engaging in massive self-care.  Neptune being direct can give us more clarity after five months of digging deep.  We should have more empathy and compassion available to extend to others.  It can also be a time to manifest our dreams.

The Pace Picks up as Neptune Stations Direct, Mercury Enters Capricorn and a Full Moon in Gemini

 

The peace and quiet period of last week is over.  December is starting off with a bang.  Venus in Sagittarius opposed Mars in retrograde Gemini in 18 degrees adding a note of tension to relationships and Mercury in Sagittarius didn't exactly help matters when it squared retrograde Neptune in 22 degrees of Pisces on December 1.

On December 3, Neptune wakes up from the nap it began on June 28 in 25 degrees of Pisces and stations direct in 22 degrees of Pisces.  Neptune is a rather nebulous planet and it can be difficult to pin down.  It can literally go either way in terms of creativity, compassion and spirituality being heightened or we can slip back into escapism, illusions and addiction.  False news is still possible and we can't rule out the potential for flooding and unusual weather conditions. But we can definitely Neptune's power to be stronger when it station direct; that is the just the nature of any planet stationing either direct or retrograde.

On December 6, Mercury enters the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn for an extended stay because guess what folks--the year 2022 ends with Mercury stationing retrograde in 24 degrees of Capricorn on December 29. Mercury will be retrograde until January 18, 2023 when it stations direct in 8 degrees of Capricorn.  Mercury will be in Capricorn until February 11, 2023.  I am a bit concerned because when Mercury stations retrograde it will be exactly conjunct my Pluto in Capricorn in my 4th house...

What can we expect when Mercury is in Capricorn? Communication is about to get a lot clearer, practical, realistic and rational.  The quick decisions and view of the big picture with a highly optimistic perspective that characterized Mercury in Sagittarius are gone.  Reality bites now with Mercury in Capricorn as we seek to build ideas and achieve goals.  We are laser focused on the details when  Mercury is in Capricorn.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Capricorn is a tendency to be controlling and have more rigid thinking.

The last Full Moon of 2022 occurs on December 7 in 16 degrees of Gemini.  It is not a Super Full Moon or an eclipse but it can still have quite an impact on us.  For some of us, it might be ending a chapter we began with the New Moon in 9 degrees of Gemini on May 30, 2022.  Think back to what was going on in your life back then and see if anything has reached a sense of completion or if you are ready to release something that is not working for you.  

A Full Moon in Gemini has themes of seeking knowledge, communication and a strong emphasis on choices.  It is the sign of duality, don't forget. There is a great deal of mutable energy in this Full Moon chart: the Sun and Venus are in Sagittarius, the Moon and Mars are in Gemini, and Jupiter and Neptune are in Pisces.  Even the Ascendant for my location is in 12 degrees of Virgo, which is a mutable sign.  The Full Moon is exactly conjunct retrograde Mars in 16 degrees of Gemini, which can bring some explosive and fiery anger--just warning you!  It's quite possible that feelings of anger and resentment from the past could surface, but this is a good opportunity to release them. There will be a desire for more spiritual choices however because the Moon is squaring Neptune in 22 degrees of Pisces.  Mark my words that Neptune in Pisces will be a key player in this Full Moon in Gemini, but it can either play out as highly spiritual or chaotic.  Jupiter is in 29 degrees of Pisces and is still near enough Neptune to either create a magical vibe or generate more pandemonium.  Just try to remember that with a Full Moon in Gemini we do have choices about how we react.  This Full Moon is conjunct my natal Gemini Moon, so it should be interesting...

The Sun and Mercury Hang Out and Neptune Lightens Up Things

 

In case you have been living under a rock for the past few days and haven’t noticed, the cosmic energy has shifted.  On November 21, the Sun entered the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius and I tweeted:

The Sun moves into Sagittarius tonight and the energy becomes more optimistic and our faith in the future is restored. It’s a welcome break from the intensity of Scorpio season and a very upbeat vibe.#astrology

On November 24, Mercury departed the fixed water sign of Scorpio and also entered Sagittarius. On November 28, the Sun and Mercury are conjunct in 5 degrees of Sagittarius.  This should be a very high energy day, as we are in the mood to share ideas.  It’s an excitable and adventurous vibe.  Sun-Mercury conjunctions are not that rare; the last time we had one was on October 9 in 16 degrees of Libra, but Mercury was retrograde back then.  Now Mercury is direct and both planets are in the sign of Sagittarius, which is renowned for being a no-holds barred sign and lays all of the cards out on the table.  Sometimes Sagittarius can be blunt or offensive, but it tends to speak the truth.  Yes, some zingers could fly, but it will be interesting to say the least and the Scorpio subterfuge and secrets are long gone.  You might not always like what you hear with Mercury in Sagittarius, as it sometimes has a tendency to put its foot in its mouth.  But when the Sun and Mercury hang together in Sagittarius, you can be assured that what you hear is something that needs to be said as a release of old energy to move forward towards that new vision.  With the Sun and Mercury in future-oriented Sagittarius that’s just the way it is.  Perhaps we will feel a bit melancholy as we say goodbye to the old ways, but trust in the power of that new and shiny future that is coming.  It’s definitely a plus to have the Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius, which is a much more open and friendly atmosphere.

On November 29, Mars in Scorpio is forming an exact trine with Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces.  This is a really sweet vibe for creativity, inspiration and goal setting.  Quite literally it can be a day to act on making your dreams come true.  Don’t forget that Mars is very strong in Scorpio, as it is a co-ruler of Scorpio along with Pluto and Neptune rules Pisces, so these two planets are operating on a full tank so to speak. Make the most of this aspect.  Mars will be on my Scorpio Sun, so I plan on making this a productive and creative day.

The month of December starts off on a promising note when Neptune stations direct on December 1 in 20 degrees of Pisces.  Neptune has been retrograde since June 25 when it stationed in 23 degrees of Pisces.  When Neptune is in direct motion, we can use the guidance we obtained during its five-month nap to move forward with our dreams. I find it quite fitting that Neptune is stationing direct a few days before the final Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4.  The period between eclipses (the last one occurred on November 19 in 27 degrees of Taurus and many people are still reeling from it) can frequently feel like being stuck in the fog, and now we have the Queen of Fog, Neptune, taking a direct turn.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. If you are eligible for a booster shot, get it. The Delta strain of the virus is very serious and we need to remain vigilant with our masks, even if we are fully vaccinated.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy, everyone! 

 

 

Neptune Wakes Up and a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini

 

The month of November began with a bang as Mercury stationed direct on the 3^rd and is ending on a high octane note as well.  On November 28 Neptune stations direct after being dormant since June 22, 2020 when it stationed retrograde in 20 degrees of Pisces. It literally wakes up in 18 degrees of Pisces on the 28^th.  We all know that the power of a planet is amplified when it is stationary, whether it is retrograde or direct.  Neptune can be kind of hard to pin down.  On a lower level, it is associated with fog, chaos and lack of clarity.  But when Neptune is functioning on its highest octave, we can experience deep levels of compassion, unconditional love and healing.

Neptune direct will unfold a new level of reality for us as it brings more mental and emotional clarity.  It is great for dream work and creative endeavors, but it can also make us more inclined towards escapism.  Many of us have been doing our due diligence in the past five months in terms of soul searching and this could result in feeling like a fog has lifted.  The water signs of Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio will undoubtedly feel even more sensitive and attuned with Neptune going direct.  It truly is time to listen to our intuition.  Neptune will be trining my Sun in Scorpio and my Cancer Midheaven when it stations direct so I know that I will feel its effects strongly.

Eclipses are famous for being known as game changers and on November 30 we have a Lunar Eclipse in 8 degrees of Gemini.  It isn’t a total eclipse, but this penumbral or partial eclipse is nothing to sneeze at.  Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, which is all about information and communication.  Feelings are bound to come to a head about information.  Truth and disclosure will prevail.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire with this planetary configuration because this eclipse is conjunct my Moon in my 8^th house.

Lunar eclipses tend to shine a light on matters that were previously hidden and can bring some closure or completion to anything that we began on the New Moon in the same sign.  We had a New Moon in Gemini on May 22, so think back to what was going on in your life back then.  It is also possible that something or someone can exit your life right now.  I know that many of us had to deal with our entire way of life being altered during the past year due to the pandemic, but right now we need to trust in a sense of Divine Purpose.  That’s not to say it won’t be accompanied by a sense of sadness at whatever loss that entails, but be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to grieve if you need to.

Uranus in Taurus is heavily influencing this eclipse so expect a fair amount of nervous tension and anxiety.  On November 27, Venus in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus, which inspired me to tweet:

And on the 29^th, the Sun in 7 degrees of Sagittarius forms an irritating inconjunct to Uranus in 7 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect adds another layer of tension as we are seeking freedom and creative self-expression.  It is eruptive energy that has a scattered quality.  It’s definitely an unsettling vibe. Uranus is the Great Awakener, but in such a challenging aspect to the Sun, it also tends to generate anger and confusion.

But this eclipse doesn’t have to be a total washout.  We have a couple of very promising aspects on this eclipse.  The Moon in Gemini is forming a supportive sextile to Mars in Aries, so don’t be afraid to act on implementing change in your life.  And Mercury in Scorpio is also forming a sextile to Saturn in Capricorn which can help us set some emotional boundaries in relationships.

The mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will bear the brunt of this eclipse.  Gemini and Sagittarius will be seeking some type of change or realignment in relationships while Virgo and Pisces will see the changes manifest in their home life or material world.
