The Sun Enters Aries and Mercury Goes Direct in Pisces

 

Happy Astrological New Year!  The Sun enters Aries on March 20, marking the start of another astrological new year and the first day of Spring.  With the Sun in the cardinal fire sign of Aries,

we are embarking on a high energy period which encourages us to take action, be more courageous, ambitious, spontaneous and independent.  We are also inclined to be more impulsive, impatient, enthusiastic and competitive.  We can be quite direct now too, which is a marked change from the Sun in Pisces. That mutable water energy was pretty hard to pin down.  Living in the moment is our mantra now.

Mercury is also going direct in 8 degrees of Pisces at 3:33 p.m. after having been retrograde since February 26, when it stationed retrograde in 22 degrees of Pisces.  We can start to experience more clarity, less misunderstandings and problems with transportation.  The Mercury retrograde shadow period began on February 11 and it doesn't fully clear its retrograde shadow until April 9 when it hits 22 degrees of Pisces.

This Mercury retrograde in Pisces has caused a lot of people to deal with water issues.  I had to have a drain replaced in a sink because it was leaking.  I know that other people had roofs leaking and flooding due to the weather.  Another manifestation of Mercury retrograde in Pisces is dreaming about or actually hearing from people in our past.  I have had extremely vivid dreams regarding people from my past and I have been hearing similar stories from clients too. Mercury remains in Pisces until April 14, but we should start to experience some relief.  Just be mindful that it can feel a little unsettling for 2-3 days around the station (either direct or retrograde) of a planet and we will all be fine.

The Sun in Aries is very busy during its first week.  On March 22, the Sun and Neptune are conjunct in 1 degree of Aries.  This aspect has a theme of visionary action with a proactive approach to dreams.  This is actually the first time the Sun and Neptune have been conjunct in Aries since 1862.  The United States was undergoing the Civil War back then.  We might be feeling like we are supposed to start something now.  The Sun, the planet of identity and ego, is merging with Neptune, the planet of dissolution, imagination and transcendence.  This is quite a spiritual cocktail.  In fact, our interest in the spiritual world is bound to be stimulated.  Careful planning to attain our dreams is key.

On March 25, the Sun and Saturn meet up in 4 degrees of Aries.  Be prepared to face extra responsibilities on this day.  We can feel tested and life might feel hard.  The structures in our lives will require attention.  There can also be setbacks or challenges from authority figures when the Sun and Saturn are conjunct.  But this does afford us the opportunity build more self-reliance.  And if we have been working hard, we just might get some rewards for our efforts.  I have this aspect natally in Scorpio in my chart, so I know it well.

The Sun in Aries is also forming a supportive sextile to Pluto in 4 degrees of Aquarius on March 25.  This aspect  increases our need to succeed and empowers us.  Determination and sense of purpose are strong now.  Any obsessive or compulsive tendencies that we have can be chaneled to complete challenging tasks. Energy levels will be high, as is our resilience to bounce back from adversities.  So enjoy the energy transfusion that the Sun in Aries will provide.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. The Sun and Neptune Are Conjunct in Pisces and Then the Sun Moves into Aries Where it Meets up with Pluto

 

The Sun is very busy these days.  On March 17 (St. Patrick's Day), the Sun will be exactly conjunct Neptune in 27 degrees of Pisces. It has a theme of surrendering your sense of self to obtain a deeper understanding of your identity. It is a very dreamy vibe and we will definitely be more sensitive physically and emotionally.  Our capacity for sympathy, empathy and compassion is ramped up.  This aspect also increases our desire for escapism, so feel free to see a movie or enjoy the arts.  Artistic inspiration is flowing freely and spiritual awakenings are possible too.  Just remember to set some boundaries in relationships so that we don't play out the less evolved shadow side of Neptune in terms of becoming a victim or martyr.

On March 19, the Sun leaves the mutable water sign of Pisces to enter the cardinal fire sign of Aries. It's literally the start of the astrological new year and is International Astrology Day. When the Sun is in Aries, we are more enthusiastic, spontaneous and impulsive.  We are raring to go forward and have more energy and courage to get us there.  Aries is the first sign in the zodiac and it favors new beginnings.  We can be inclined to live in the moment during the Sun's passage through Aries and not see the big picture. We can also be more impatient and with Mercury in Aries to boot (until May 15 with next month's Mercury retrograde) this can play out as saying things in the heat of the moment that we might later regret.

The Sun in Aries has a favorable meet-up with Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on March 21.  This is a sextile aspect, which tends to present us with opportunities.  It will increase our need to succeed and make us more determined and purposeful.  We can actually be in better control of our obsessions and compulsions to help us to complete difficult tasks.  Our spiritual warrior is coming out to play, so to speak as we feel more empowered.  Mercury in Aries sextiled Pluto in Aquarius on March 10, the day of the New Moon in 20 degrees of Pisces. On that day I posted:

We also have Venus in Pisces conjunct Saturn in 12 degrees of Pisces on March 21.  This is not exactly the most fun aspect because it can make us feel isolated, sad or depressed.  It also has a way of testing relationships through distance, separation and an inability to connect in a meaningful way.  There could be some underlying issues of guilt or disloyalties at the root of these problems.  And it can also play out as financial hardships.  Fortunately this is a temporary aspect.  I myself am not looking forward to it because it is squaring my Moon in Gemini and trining my natal Saturn in Scorpio.  This is one aspect that is probably not helpful with a trine. Venus and Saturn are not exactly on the same page, so their get-togethers can be somewhat uncomfortable. Just remember it is temporary and will pass.

It is also important to remember that we are entering eclipse season and have technically been in it since the New Moon in Pisces on March 10.  We have our first eclipse of 2024 on March 25 with a Lunar Eclipse in 5 degrees of Libra and since eclipses come in pairs, it will be followed by a total Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Aries on April 8. So if you are already feeling some intense vibes, it is not your imagination.

Venus Gets Very Busy Before it Moves into Taurus and Mercury Interacts with Uranus and Neptune

 

The month of March continues to roar like a lion with plenty of astrological activity.  We had a Full Moon in Virgo on March 7 and Saturn entered Pisces on the same day, inspiring me to tweet:

Saturn enters Pisces today as our dreams are tested and reality is challenged. Saturn isn’t comfortable in Pisces because Pisces doesn’t embrace boundaries or structure. #astrology

On March 11, 2023, we have a couple more aspects that are a big deal.  Venus in Aries is sextiling Mars in 22 degrees of Gemini, and this is fabulous energy for socializing and romance.  We should be feeling confident, assertive and sexy.  This aspect also favors creativity and initiating projects, so don't waste the day.

Mercury in Pisces is also sextiling Uranus in 15 degrees of Taurus on March 11.  This can bring exciting news and stimulating conversations.  It is good for meeting people and making new friends.  This is also a very social aspect and it will create opportunities for more insight to be available.

On March 12, Jupiter and Chiron are conjunct in 14 degrees of Aries.  This aspect occurs every 50 years and opens us up for the chance to heal and grow.  It might force us to get in touch with some guilt and shame, but it will be well worth it as we acknowledge our individual wound's connection to learned models of behavior in society.  The payoff can lie in releasing and healing those wounds.  Yes, Jupiter could magnify our wounds, but healing is coming.

We will need to exercise some caution on March 14 when Mars in Gemini is forming a challenging square to Neptune in 25 degrees of Pisces.  This is the third time that this aspect has occurred: the first one was on October 12, 2022 and the second was on November 19, 2022.  This aspect tends to produce low energy, suspicion, deceit, discouragement and paranoia.  We could also experience slander, scandal and hypochondria on this day.  It goes without saying that substance abuse is on the table too. I encourage you to think back to October and November of 2022 to see what issues were coming up for you then because frequently the third pass of an aspect is when we get some closure or clarity on it.

The Sun in Pisces is conjunct Neptune in 25 degrees of Pisces on March 15.  This can play out in a couple of ways: it might bring a temporary period of confusion and disillusionment in love or spiritual beliefs or it can increase our sensitivity, intuition and empathy.  We might need to be extra cautious about setting boundaries on this day.

The Sun in Pisces is squaring Mars in 25 degrees of Gemini on March 16 and this can deliver challenges with tests of character from our competitors or enemies.  We can be feeling irritable and impatient, which can lead to a build-up of anger, resentment or sexual frustration.  This is not a fun aspect, which I can attest to because I have it natally between my Sun in Scorpio and Mars in Aquarius.  All I can say is try to be as patient as possible, which is easier said than done.

Mercury in Pisces is also conjunct Neptune in 25 degrees of Pisces on March 16.  Our thinking is more focused on spiritual topics.  This is an ideal time to meditate and our psychic perceptions are heightened.  I personally love this aspect because I have it natally in my 1st house.  Just be mindful of the shadow side of this aspect: a tendency towards confusion, fear and paranoia.

And, ta-da, we have Venus entering Taurus on March 16 and it stays there until April 11, 2023.  Venus rules Taurus and Libra, so it is very happy and comfortable in Taurus.  We will be more grounded and rooted in our relationships as we seek out comfort, companionship and emotional security.  Kindness and common sense will prevail and there is more of an emphasis on building and securing wealth.  We are ready to enjoy the finer things in life.  Taurus does love its luxury and it can be a very sensual time. The only downside with Venus in Taurus is a tendency to be stubborn or possessive. But this should definitely be an enjoyable transit.

A Super Full Moon in Virgo and Mercury Stations Direct

Save the date of March 9, 2020.  It’s a very big day astrologically.  For starters, we have a super full moon in 19 degrees of Virgo.  It’s called a super full moon because it is so close to the earth that it is extremely bright and visible as it rises above the horizon.  The moon will be at perigee, meaning that it appears brighter and about 7% larger than a typical full moon.  But the piece de resistance is the second major astrological event of the day: Mercury stationing direct in 28 degrees of Aquarius at 11:49 p.m.  Time for a drum roll and a collective sigh of relief!

This is an extremely complicated full moon.  It is opposing Neptune in 18 degrees of Pisces, which also means that Neptune is conjunct the sun in Pisces. The sun in Pisces conjuncts its ruling planet Neptune emits a dreamy, intuitive, and visionary vibe.  But there is also the potential for deception and things that are hard to pin down because of its elusive quality.  The fact that the full moon is in the sign of Virgo emphasizes the theme of health concerns and right now the coronavirus is definitely playing into that theme.  In medical astrology, Neptune is related to the immune system and the coronavirus outbreak is a perfect example of that. Neptune has a strong association with viruses.

A full moon in Virgo is also about service to others, since Virgo rules the 6^th house.  The full moon opposing Neptune in Pisces cautions us to beware of self-deception.  Virgo is renowned for seeking perfection, worrying and being very efficient.  This full moon may feel very empowering for Virgos, but the rest of us may find ourselves needing to let go of unrealistic standards of perfection and dreams that are not practical.  I confess that this is not one of my favorite full moons: it falls in my 12^th house and squares my natal moon in Gemini in my 8^th house. The full moon in Virgo tends to make me feel out of control and powerless, especially with it transiting my 12^th house.  I acknowledge that it can be a very spiritual time, but it requires having faith in the unknown which isn’t always easy. There is a reason that the 12^th house is associated with surrender to a higher power.

This full moon does have some positive aspects going for it though. It trines Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn.  These trines provide us with the energy to declutter our thinking and work towards making our dreams a reality.  It’s really potent energy for manifestation, so don’t waste it. Emotional transformation is possible if we are open to going with the flow of the changing times.

Mercury stationing direct on the day of a full moon gives us an additional edge.  Whenever a planet is stationary, either direct or retrograde, its power and energy are intensified.  Mercury stationary direct on the day of a full moon can make us feel as if we are telepathic in terms of connecting with others. Mercury stationing direct may also lead to greater visionary insights.  Dreams could be especially vivid around the time of this full moon and they may offer us a more detached perspective on whatever issues are troubling us.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
