Mercury in Leo Has One Final Punch Before it Enters Virgo and the Sun Has a Face Off with Saturn

 

Mercury stationed direct in Leo on August 28, but many people are still feeling the effects of Mercury retrograde.  This is because Mercury doesn't officially clear its retrograde shadow until September 12.  On September 7, we have one more reminder of how disruptive Mercury in Leo can be when it squares Uranus in 27 degrees of Taurus.  We also had this aspect occurring between Mercury in Leo and Uranus in 26 degrees of their respective signs on July 21 with the second Full Moon in Capricorn in 29 degrees.  And Mercury was in its shadow period back then, preparing to go retrograde on August 5.  When Mercury squares Uranus, misunderstandings are possible, but there is also the potential for seeing things in a totally different perspective. This aspect also tends to deliver excitement and changes to our daily routines, upsets and a fair amount of nervous tension.  I have this aspect natally, so I know all too well what it entails.  All I can say is to reflect back to July 21 to see if any of the issues that you faced on that day resurface for a do over.  And let us not forget that President Biden announced that he would not be running for another term as President of the United States on that day, so the theme of sudden and shocking news is very relevant.  As we astrologers say, you can't make this stuff up...

On September 8, the Sun in Virgo will be exactly opposing Saturn in 16 degrees of Pisces.  This is kind of a buzzkill aspect because it involves restrictions, hardships and limitations.  Frustration is the name of the game.  Feelings of depression and distance in relationships are also possible manifestations of this aspect.  Try to be patient because it will pass and work hard, even though we won't see immediate results.  Saturn is just doing its cosmic job of testing us.  The Sun will also be entering my 12th house on this day, so I have very low expectations for my energy levels during the next month.  I can always tell every year when this happens as I find myself needing more rest and attention to my health.

But on September 9, Mercury will re-enter Virgo (it was in Virgo when it stationed retrograde on August 5) and it will stay in Virgo until September 26.  Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini, so it is very happy in the sign of Virgo.  Our speech will be very precise now and quite productive.  We are more focused on details, efficiency and critical thinking. We find it very easy to be analytical while Mercury is in Virgo.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Virgo is a tendency to be hypercritical.  We run the risk of insulting others or becoming frustrated with our own flaws.  Mercury in Virgo will be forming a supportive sextile to Mars in 3 degrees of Cancer on September 11, which can help us engage in asserting ourselves in a clear and decisive manner while maintaining a measure of compassion.

The Sun in Virgo will be squaring Jupiter in 20 degrees of Gemini on September 12. Fortunately, this is one of the least problematic squares.  Granted, it can bring overexuberance and overconfidence with the potential for excessive pride.  It is a very high energy aspect that has a theme of being careful not to overextend ourselves.  Don't bite off more than you can chew or overcommit.  Jupiter loves to expand whatever it touches, so we might be inclined to over socialize or make promises to others that are hard to keep.  Try to remember to breathe first before you decide to do something and this can be an enjoyable day.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Cardinal Blast of Energy as Jupiter Enters Aries and the Sun Enters Capricorn

 

The astrological energy is shifting modalities from mutable to cardinal.  Mercury and Venus have already left the sign of Sagittarius for Capricorn and the Sun is about to follow suit.  On December 17, Mercury in 15 degrees of Capricorn will exactly trine Uranus in Taurus.  This can bring exciting news and interesting people into our orbit.  It is an eccentric vibe that will heighten our intuition and we can find that technology could be very helpful to us now.  Mercury will be in my 3rd house, so this aspect resonates for me.  Mercury entered its retrograde shadow in 8 degrees of Capricorn on December 12 for the upcoming Mercury retrograde that begins on December 29.

On December 20, Jupiter enters Aries until May 16, 2023.  If you are feeling like this is a Deja-vu experience, that is because Jupiter was previously in Aries from May 10, 2022 through October 28, 2022.  Jupiter only made it to 8 degrees of Aries before it stationed retrograde on July 28, 2022.  I don't want the later decanates of Aries to feel left out; you will get your turn this year to experience the expansive influence of Jupiter this year.  Jupiter has a very weird and somewhat bifurcated transit of the sign Aries because of the way it rolls when it retrogrades.  The last time Jupiter was in Aries was back in 2010 and 2011.  Back then it entered Aries on June 6, 2010 through September 9, 2010 and then again from January 22, 2011 through June 3, 2011.  I encourage all of my readers to think back to what issues you were dealing with back then because they could resurface.  If you are old enough to remember the previous Jupiter in Aries cycle, that one occurred from February 13, 1999 through June 27, 1999 and again from October 23, 1999 to February 14, 2000.

What are the prevalent themes of Jupiter in Aries?  Jupiter in Aries encourages us to embrace the self and our needs.  It gives us the courage to make our own luck by initiating action to manifest our dreams.  It is a very me-oriented flavor of Jupiter, which is a marked change from Jupiter in Pisces which had a more expansive influence on our spirituality and compassion for others.  It is quite literally the time to boldly act on making our dreams come true.  Jupiter loves to expand whatever it touches and bestow good luck.  Personally, I regard it as the Santa Claus of planets and it is quite fitting that it changes signs this year around Christmas.  Jupiter in Aries will be conjuncting Chiron in Aries in early March 2023 and this could see some major healing on a personal and collective level.  This also ties in with the third anniversary of COVID being declared a pandemic, so I am trying to have faith that we can turn a corner on COVID and put it in the rear-view mirror.  But the conjunction is happening in my 6th house, so that is my take on it.

The Sun departs the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius and enters Capricorn on December 21, 2022.  This is the official start of winter, although many of us have been experiencing winter weather for the past week or so.  When the Sun is in Capricorn, our focus shifts to responsibilities and duties.  We are more realistic, pragmatic and likely to work hard towards our long-term goals.  Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which is a big change from Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter.  And Jupiter is more inclined to want to have fun. Just remember that the shadow side of Capricorn is a tendency towards pessimism and/or depression and we should be fine.

We also have the Sun in 0 degrees of Capricorn squaring Jupiter in 0 degrees of Aries on December 21.  Squares are usually considered to be challenging aspects, but when Jupiter is involved, they are not that bad and the least harmful. The Sun squaring Jupiter makes us feel confident and optimistic, but it can give us a penchant for biting off more than we can chew.  And we all know that can sometimes lead to an embarrassing failure.  The most productive way of dealing with squares to Jupiter is to adopt some form of moderation.

Mercury Enters Aries and the Aries Sun Squares Pluto and Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn

It has been an extremely difficult and challenging week with the Coronavirus.  The fact that we had a full moon in Libra on April 7, 2020 only intensified the emotional angst as the death toll rose.  On that day I tweeted:

We have a complicated and especially intense #fullmoon in Libra that features Mars in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus. This aspect increases the likelihood for more sudden upsets and disruptions. #astrology

The Aries energy is still strong and about to get even stronger when Mercury enters the cardinal fire sign of Aries on April 11, 2020 where it stays until April 27, 2020.  Mercury finally cleared its retrograde shadow on March 29^th in 12 degrees of Pisces.  Mercury in Aries will be a whole new ballgame when it comes to communications.  Mercury in Aries tends to benefit from quick thinking; it doesn’t dawdle over decision making.  Communication is more direct and spontaneous.  Long-range thinking is easier than when Mercury was in Pisces; we want to take actions on new ideas and implement them.  We should be feeling more courageous and innovative while we are open to bursts of inspiration.  Mercury in Pisces may have led us to be more compassionate towards others, but its shadow side involved aligning with a victim mentality.  Mercury in Aries will fight to overcome this invisible foe called Coronavirus.

Mercury in Aries can actually be a potent ally for us in the battle against Coronavirus if we don’t get tripped up by the shadow side of Mercury in Aries: its tendency towards impatience.  But many of us are probably feeling even more impatience in these days of staying at home and tempers could be flaring.  Lockdowns are by no means fun and they serve to remind us of how many of our freedoms have been restricted and that prolonged periods of confinement take their toll on our mental health.  I can’t help thinking that Saturn’s entrance into Aquarius, however briefly this year (only until July 1^st when it re-enters Capricorn and then it returns to Aquarius on December 17, 2020) is partially responsible for the restrictions on social interactions.  Who ever thought we would need to stand in line to be allowed to shop in a supermarket?  But now that supermarket workers, in addition to healthcare workers, are dying from Coronavirus, stricter measures are being enforced.  They are truly our heroes these days and they deserve respect and protection.  I live in Massachusetts, and we are projected to experience the peak of this pandemic from April 10^th through April 20^th, so I have no doubt that the restrictions will be more stringent in the days to come.

On April 14, 2020, the sun in Aries will form an exact square to Pluto in Capricorn in 24 degrees of their respective signs.  This aspect is hitting me very personally.  Pluto is conjunct my natal Chiron in Capricorn in my 4^th house and I have a natal Sun Pluto square with my Scorpio sun and Pluto in Leo.  This could definitely be a day involving power struggles.  We may be feeling a need to be in control and ego conflicts with authority figures could ensue.  There is a strong likelihood of experiencing a crisis that leads to extreme or destructive behavior.  This aspect can trigger deep psychological issues involving fears, death or losing control. But the silver lining of this aspect is that it is very transformative and can lead to rebirth and a greater sense of inner power.  Let’s hope that we all get to experience that transformation without too much pain.

On April 15, 2020 the sun in 25 degrees of Aries forms an exact square to Jupiter in 25 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect won’t be as challenging as the sun’s square to Pluto, but it can be perceived as a two edged sword because it can make us feel overly confident, proud, lucky and optimistic.  So this aspect can manifest as success and good luck or loss and humiliation.  Jupiter loves to expand whatever it touches, and there is an inherent danger with this aspect of becoming too complacent about the dangers that the Coronavirus represents.  No one is immune from this disease.  The best way to navigate this day is to show some respect, moderation and discipline, which is not an easy feat during these challenging time.  Sun square Jupiter has a way of making us bite off more than we can chew and we need to be mindful of this and also be very careful with finances.
