A Lunar Eclipse in Pisces Marking the End of a Karmic Cycle and Saturn in Aries Sees Some Action from Jupiter in Leo and Mars in Cancer

 

The changes are coming fast and furious.  On August 28, we have a partial Lunar Eclipse in 4 degrees of Pisces that truly is a release of the past, denoting karmic closures, endings, a time of uncertainty but also letting go of victimhood. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and is associated with surrender, while the Sun in Virgo wants control.  How do we find a balance as reason and intuition are going at it? It's important to remember that surrender can be a good thing if it involves what is no longer working for us and that the ending can represent a new beginning. We can't forget that Lunar Eclipses are quite literally Full Moons on steroids. And that our spirituality will get us through this tumultuous time.

We have also seen quite a few entertainers depart the earth lately:  Hayden Panettiere, Shelley Fabares, Dolly Parton and Tim Curry.  Neptune rules Pisces and is associated with intuition, spiritual enlightenment and illusion.  Actors and musicians are definitely Neptunians.  And all of their deaths occurred between the eclipses.

What else is going on astrologically with this Lunar Eclipse?  Plenty!  The Sun and Mercury are conjunct in Virgo which entails a great deal of mental energy.  We are planning for the future but the Sun, Mercury and the Moon are squaring Uranus in 5 degrees of Gemini.  So, yes, big changes are coming, information can arrive suddenly and there can definitely be upheavals.  Things might not turn out the way we anticipated.  The planets squaring Uranus can also trigger high anxiety and mental health issues. Our nervous systems can feel like they are on overload. The Uranus influence is very disruptive and don't rule out technology problems too.

Many astrologers have been saying for quite some time that these August eclipses would mark an ending period in our lives and I am living proof of that.  The Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 12 squared my Sun/Venus conjunction in Scorpio and my husband had a stroke on August 14.  He died on August 19.  Ironically, the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces is exactly squaring his Sun in Sagittarius in the 8th house.  My role as a caregiver has ended, which is quite Piscean.

The houses in a chart where the Sun and Mercury in Virgo, Moon in Pisces and Uranus in Gemini fall are crucial to understanding where all of this energy will play out for you. The Sun and Mercury in Virgo fall in my 11th house of hopes, dreams and group associations. The Virgo piece represents our harvest and what we will reap from our efforts. The Moon in Pisces falls in my 5th house of love, creativity and children. Pisces is what we are releasing as the karmic cord is cut.  And Uranus in Gemini is in my 8th house, perched 9 degrees away from my Moon in Gemini.  The death and rebirth theme shows up there. So my life definitely fits the criteria for major life changes occurring.  My husband's death will instigate a major rebirth in my life.  I have to walk the talk of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

This phase of change is by no means complete.  We will see a second phase during the Lunar Eclipse in 2 degrees of Virgo on February 20, 2027.  So stay tuned to see how this plays out in six months during the next eclipse season...

On August 31, Jupiter in Leo will be squaring Saturn in 13 degrees of Aries.  The perk of this transit is that we have more patience and endurance to focus on our long-term goals.  Our optimism and desire for growth are aligning perfectly with our sense of discipline to create structure.  Just don't take on more responsibilities than you can handle at this time.  We can make smart decisions about money though.

Mars in Cancer will be squaring Saturn in 13 degrees of Aries on September 1. This represents a clash between our drive to take action and the blocks or delays we encounter.  It is the classic one foot on the brake, the other foot on the gas syndrome.  It can bring frustration, tension, anger and a feeling of helplessness.  Mars squaring Saturn can also make you your own worst enemy if you act impulsively or get embroiled in power struggles.  I can personally attest to this fact as I have my natal Mars in Aquarius squaring my natal Saturn in Scorpio.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. Virgo Season Begins as the Sun and Mercury Both Enter Virgo Prior to the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

 

I don't know about you, but I am still reeling from the effects of the Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Leo that occurred on August 12, 2026.  It was squaring my natal Sun and Venus in Scorpio. so I knew it would have profound effects on me.  On August 14 my husband, who has been battling Parkinson's disease for 8 years, suffered a severe stroke that sent him to the hospital with inpatient hospice and comfort care.  He never regained consciousness and died peacefully on August 19, 2026.  I have an app on my phone called Astro Future which said the aspect of the day for me was the transiting Sun conjunct my natal Pluto in Leo.  It read: "This transit brings experiences which will change your life. Personal influence is boosted.  You may move into a better position.  A change in the way you look may also feel natural.  Deeper connections within your self are part of the renewal process."  Who says astrology isn't real- you can't make this stuff up!

A major reality check in relationships and finances is in store for us on August 21 when Venus in Libra is opposing Saturn in 14 degrees of Aries.  But it also represents an opportunity to set boundaries in relationships which could be much needed.  If money seems tight on this day, blame it on the Venus-Saturn opposition.  

The Sun enters Virgo on August 22.  This is a big change from the Sun in Leo.  The Sun in Virgo, the mutable earth sign, shifts our focus towards practicality, organizing, problem-solving and health matters.  There is also a strong emphasis on perfectionism and healing.  The shadow side of the Sun in Virgo is being too critical and judgmental so be mindful of that.

The Sun in Virgo trines Chiron in 0 degrees of Taurus on the 23rd, making it easier to examine our old wounds and insecurities in order to heal them.  It's possible to embrace vulnerabilities without fear.  Be kind to yourself and allow yourself some grace during this time of healing.

Mercury moves into Virgo on August 25 until September 10.  Mercury is a very happy camper here because it rules Gemini and Virgo.  Communication will be clearer, we will be more organized and find it easier to solve problems.  Our attention to detail is heightened and we can analyze information efficiently.

The Sun and Mercury are conjunct in 2 degrees of Virgo on August 27 prior to the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on August 28.  This will boost our mental clarity, sharpness and facilitate handling any kind of paperwork.  Our minds are functioning at full capacity on this day.  Make the most of it.

Mercury, Mars and Jupiter Stir the Pot in the Week Between Eclipses

 

Well, we are in that awkward week between eclipses.  We had a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 12 and the next one will be a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on August 28. In the meantime, Mercury in Leo, Mars in Cancer and Jupiter are playing.  Mercury recently entered Leo on August 9 and Mars entered Cancer on August 11.

On August 15, Mercury and Jupiter are conjunct in 10 degrees of Leo.  This is a real feel-good aspect that can bring good news, optimism, generosity and expansive thinking.  We are definitely seeing the big picture.  Communication could have a dramatic flair and be somewhat exaggerated.  Just be mindful not to promise more than you can deliver and it should be a highly enjoyable day.

Mars in Cancer starts acting up on August 16 when it is inconjunct Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius.  This can make us act compulsively as our need for power and control has the potential to undermine .us.  It also has a strong theme of power struggles.  Mars and Pluto are heavy hitters and they are definitely not comfortable when they are 150 degrees apart.  Try not to manipulate people on this day.  Hidden feelings are getting churned up, and it might be best to reflect on them before acting as inconjuncts tend to require some adjustments.  Don't ignore emotional upsets though because you could experience headaches, muscle tightness or digestive issues.  Another possible manifestation is the tendency to drift away from social connections that don't feel right.

We have a mixed bag astrologically speaking on August 17. Mars in Cancer is squaring Neptune in 4 degrees of Aries.  This creates tension between drive to act and a fog of illusion by playing out in confusion, deception, lies and lack of faith.  Our energy levels could be lowered too.  It's much easier to feel overwhelmed by stress with Mars squaring Neptune.  And try not to make any major decisions now because our judgment is somewhat foggy now. There is also a tendency to play the martyr or savior role.  But Mars squaring Neptune can spur our creativity, so run with it if you feel so inspired.

Venus in Libra is forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 10 degrees of Leo on the 17th.  It's always fun when the two benefic planets get together.  This highlights themes of growth, good fortune, and socializing.  If you are single, get out there and mingle because you could meet someone new when the planets associated with love and luck hang out.  Travel (associated with Jupiter) is also possible, so don't rule out a short trip. It could be quite enjoyable and a welcome break. Charm and social ease are flowing freely on this day.  Just be mindful not to overindulge because there literally can be too much of a good thing.  Sextiles are considered to be positive aspects because they bring opportunities but you need to act on them to reap the benefits they present. Otherwise, if you snooze, you lose with sextiles.

Mercury Enters Leo, Mars Moves into Cancer and Eclipse Season Kicks Off with a Solar Eclipse in Leo

 

The break is over and August is definitely heating up.  Mercury zips into Leo on August 9 for a brief stay until August 25 after having been in Cancer since June 1.  How can we forget that absolutely lovely Mercury retrograde from June 29 through July 23?  The good news is that Mercury cleared its retrograde shadow on August 26 in 26 degrees of Cancer.

What can we expect with Mercury in Leo?  Communication is about to get bolder and dramatic.  Make way for warmth, passion and creativity because Mercury is in a fire sign now.  Our thinking will be more confident and decisive. We don't hold back and are inclined to speak our minds freely when Mercury is in Leo.  It's time to take the lead because Leo is a born leader, the sign of royalty.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Leo is a tendency not to listen as carefully as we should or to let our ego run wild.  Just saying...

Next up is Mars moving into Cancer on August 11 until September 27.  Mars is not the most comfortable in the cardinal water sign of Cancer, since it is exalted in Capricorn.  It has been described as being in the sign of its fall. The planet of action is more protective and defensive in Cancer.  We can be driven by our moods, so watch out for passive-aggressive behavior.  Suppressed frustration can be very real during Mar's transit in Cancer.  Emotional stress can literally be physically be draining under Mars in Cancer, so take good care.

The stage is set for the main event on August 12: a total Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Leo.  If you have any planets around 20 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio you will feel this eclipse big time.  This one is squaring my Sun in Scorpio.

This is a South Node eclipse, so we have a strong theme of letting go of an identity.  An eclipse in Leo also has a heart connection. Leo rules the heart.  Other themes with this eclipse involve releasing pride and the need for validation because it is a time to reinvent ourselves by growing into self-awareness and concern for humanity.  The Nodes of the Moon recently moved into Aquarius (North Node) and Leo (South Node) on July 26, so this is the first eclipse of this new nodal cycle.  The North Node represents what we are striving for and requires effort to stretch out of our comfort zone while the South Node asks us to let go of the patterns that are no longer serving our greatest good but are are literally the path of least resistance.

We had a Total Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo on August 21, 2017 that was known as the Great American Eclipse because it was visible in the United States.  The big difference was that it was a North Node eclipse. We also had the same President of the United States back in 2017: Donald Trump.  I remember it well because I was on a ferry to Long Island on that day and did witness it.  Five months later my husband became ill and was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018.  It has progressed rapidly in the past year to the point that he is now under hospice care.

What other aspects are we dealing with on this eclipse day?  Mars in Cancer is squaring Venus in 5 degrees of Libra, which is very initiating energy.  We will be seeking fairness in relationships and ready to take action.  Neptune in Aries is also squaring Mars in Cancer, which can provide a reality check on our goals and inspire us to take more spiritual action.  Jupiter in Leo is trining Neptune in Aries, fostering more spiritual growth and compassion.  We also have a Grand Trine in Air involving Venus in Libra, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius which can lead to new social contacts and means of communication for change.  Mercury and Jupiter are conjunct in Leo on the eclipse, so we have the opportunity to rewrite our mental patterns and create new beliefs.

Another manifestation of this Solar Eclipse in Leo is that people in power could be ousted. The astrological community has seen quite a backlash against astrologer Steven Forrest this past week as a result of his use of a racial slur on the Lila astrology podcast discussing shadow work. This upcoming Solar Eclipse is in his 10th house squaring his Ascendant in Scorpio. The NCGR as a result has decided to remove Steven Forrest as an NCGR Advisor and Participating Affiliate.  He will not be participating in the UAC Conference in September.  I just want to emphasize that the effects of astrology are real and you can't make this stuff up!

I have read many of Steven Forrest's books and even met him many years ago at an NCGR conference. I learned quite a bit from his work and hope that this incident does not destroy his legacy but the bottom line is that our words do have consequences.  Eclipses have a way of bringing things to light.

Since eclipses come in pairs, we have another one on August 28, a Lunar Eclipse in 4 degrees of Pisces.  I will cover that one later, but would just like to state that while we are all probably feeling the need for change, it is probably best to wait until after the dust settles from the eclipses to act.  That is what September is all about...

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
