An Unusually Intense New Moon in Libra and Pluto Goes Direct in Aquarius

 

We have a New Moon in 17 degrees of Libra on October 10 that is anything but peaceful.  Many of us have been feeling somewhat stuck lately and this New Moon can be very emotionally triggering and leave us feeling quite vulnerable, especially with Venus retrograde.  Venus in 7 degrees of Scorpio is squaring Mars in 7 degrees of Leo on the New Moon, which can bring discomfort and tension in relationships.  But this can result in clearer boundaries if we can survive any ego wounds that are dredged up, pride and reactive patterns. Venus in Scorpio is also squaring Pluto in 3 degrees of Aquarius, emphasizing power dynamics and old trauma that resurfaces.

The New Moon in Libra is also opposing Saturn in 10 degrees of Aries with strong themes of  responsibility, hard work and emotional maturity.  We will need to show up when it's uncomfortable and set some boundaries in relationships.

A New Moon in Libra requires that we listen to others so that we can plant new seeds in relationships and reboot them in order to obtain a reset.  Fortunately the saving grace aspect of this New Moon is the supportive sextile between the Moon in Libra and Jupiter in 21 degrees of Leo.  This provides us with wisdom, growth, and heart-centered expansion.  It is very supportive and healing if we are willing to do the work. This New Moon is also conjunct my Ascendant and activating my Grand Air Trine involving Mars in Aquarius and my Moon in Gemini, so I have no doubt that it will be important for me.

On October 15 Pluto will station direct 3 degrees of Aquarius after having been retrograde since May 6, 2026 in 5 degrees of Aquarius. Pluto direct will give us more clarity on decisions that have been percolating since May.  It can represent a point of completion as well as a spiritual turning point and transformation. It is a time to get unstuck regarding the major changes in our lives and who couldn’t use that.

The Sun in Libra is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 21 degrees of Leo on October 15.  This is accompanied by a boost in confidence, optimism, positive thinking and feelings of generosity. We can be feeling lucky because material and spiritual growth are possible.  It is a real feel-good day, so make the most of it.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mercury and Mars Hook Up in Scorpio, A New Moon in Libra, Neptune Dips Back into Pisces and the Sun Enters Scorpio

 

The last full week of October is going out with a bang, pretty much the way it started with that Full Moon in Aries.  On October 20, Mercury and Mars will be conjunct in 20 degrees of Scorpio.  This can quite literally indicate a breaking point, both mentally and emotionally.  We can feel driven to dig deep and investigate with both of these planets in the fixed water sign of Scorpio.  A crisis can occur and we could see aggression on a verbal or emotional level. Powerful communication is likely and I wouldn't be surprised if words were used as weapons. I have my natal Mercury in Scorpio and I have frequently quipped that my mouth could be registered as a lethal weapon. Subconscious truths can be revealed.  This aspect will be quite personal for me because it is conjunct my natal Sun in Scorpio in my 2nd house.

We have a New Moon in 28 degrees of Libra on October 21 that promises to pack quite a punch.  The theme of a New Moon in Libra is to set intentions to create more harmony, but the Sun and Moon in Libra are forming an out of sign square to Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius, which could indicate some power struggles.  Of course, the most positive use of this energy is power to the people, but it seems that like is a work in progress.  

There is actually a Cardinal Grand Cross on the New Moon because it squares Jupiter in 24 degrees of Cancer and opposes Chiron in 24 degrees of Aries.  Aries is very rebellious energy while Jupiter in Cancer is all about self-care and nurturing others.  This Cardinal Grand Cross has strong themes of motivation to make changes, but there can be unbalanced power and lack of equality.  Chiron in Aries opposing the New Moon can trigger old emotional wounds for healing so that we can move forward.  And the New Moon squaring Jupiter in Cancer can bring on a tendency towards self-indulgence.

What else is going on astrologically with the New Moon in Libra?  We also have a Grand Water Trine involving Mars and Mercury in Scorpio trining Jupiter in 24 degrees of Cancer and Saturn in 26 degrees of Pisces.  A Grand Water Trine emphasizes emotions, so expect to have a big case of the feels on this day.. There is the potential for angry words, but try to remember that we are building for the future and use that emotional energy to stay focused.  

This New Moon in Libra will be very personal for me as it conjuncts my Neptune in Libra and Mercury in 0 degrees of Scorpio in my 1st house.  The Grand Water Trine also trines my Venus in Scorpio and Uranus in Cancer.

The action continues on October 22 with two planets moving into water signs.  Neptune moves from Aries, where it has been since March 30, back into Pisces at 5:48 a.m. Neptune will remain in the anaretic or critical degree of 29 in Pisces until January 26, 2026 when it moves back into Aries until May 2038.  Clearly we have some unfinished business to attend to and this transit will be felt the strongest by anyone having planets or points in the late degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius. This last pass of Neptune in Aries will be a crucial turning point regarding the areas of spirituality, confusion and escapism.  We might be dissolving illusions and obtaining a deeper understanding of the truth as we let go of the past to heal and prepare for a new beginning that Neptune in Aries symbolizes.  On a more mundane level, this last hit of Neptune in Pisces could bring more floods and storms.

The Sun enters the fixed water sign of Scorpio at 11:51 p.m. on October 22. The focus is now on transformation and getting to the bottom of things.  There is nothing superficial or light-hearted about the Sun transiting Scorpio because it literally is an all-or-nothing sign with no halfway measures.  It is a seismic change from the Sun in Libra.  Determination, perseverance and loyalty are earmarks of Scorpio, as is emotional depth and intensity.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Scorpio is about jealousy and vindictiveness.  I am a Scorpio, so trust me, I know that all of these things are true.  A Scorpio can be your most loyal friend, but it you cross them, they can be your worst enemy.  This is the kind of energy we will be dealing with for the next few weeks...

Retrograde Mercury Re-Enters Virgo, a New Moon in Libra and Venus Moves into Libra

 

We are still in the thick of Mercury retrograde, folks, until October 2, but on September 23, retrograde Mercury moves from Libra into Virgo.  Mercury retrograde in Libra could have seen us reworking issues in our relationships but its entrance into Virgo has a different flavor.  Mercury was previously in Virgo from August 4th through August 25th, so this time around we might find ourselves analyzing plans and information that surfaced back in August. Reconsidering plans will probably be a major theme. Mercury rules the sign of Virgo, so it is actually quite comfortable here.  The shadow side of Mercury in Virgo is that we could have a tendency to be somewhat self-critical because criticism is very much associated with the sign of Virgo. Try not to be too hard on yourself now.  Another possible manifestation of Mercury in Virgo is that we could be focusing on health issues and obtaining more information about any troubling symptoms we have been experiencing.  Rest assured that relief is on the way with Mercury stationing direct in 24 degrees of Virgo on October 2 and moving back into Libra on October 10.

The Sun moved into Libra on September 22 officially kicking off the Fall season and the Fall Equinox.  On September 25, we have a New Moon in 2 degrees of Libra.  The New Moon in Libra will definitely offer us the opportunity to make a fresh start in relationships.  I hope that you are able to set some intentions on the New Moon by writing down what you want to invite into your life.  It can be a very empowering process and you can create your own ritual.  I like to meditate during my New Moon ritual of stating my intentions to the universe.

The only major aspect that the New Moon in Libra makes is an opposition to Jupiter in 3 degrees of Aries, but like the planet Jupiter, it can have a big payoff.  We all know that Jupiter is associated with joy, growth and expansion, but these days it also pertains to a universal theme of inflation. So having the Sun and Moon in Libra opposing Jupiter in Aries can create a great deal of enthusiasm and optimism.   Jupiter is forming a tense semi-square with Uranus in 18 degrees of Taurus, which can create some financial turbulence.  And it also forms a semi-square aspect with Saturn in 19 degrees of Aquarius, which will generate its own tension over issues that have to do with existing structures.  The bottom line with Jupiter aspecting both Saturn and Uranus is that is activating that old Saturn-Uranus square aspect that ruled the astrological roost in 2021.  Saturn and Uranus were exactly square on February 17, June 14 and December 24 of 2021, but they will be getting pretty close again between late September and early November 2022.  The closest that they get is on October 4 when Saturn is in 18 degrees of Aquarius and Uranus in 18 degrees of Taurus.  This is activating the theme of a trial of strength as we try to navigate the battle between preserving the old structures represented by Saturn and implementing the changes that Uranus is clamoring for.

The New Moon in Libra will also have a lot of mental energy present.  Mercury will be in 27 degrees of Virgo and Venus will be in 25 degrees of Virgo on the New Moon, so don't be surprised if there is a lot of talk going on in relationships.  Venus in Virgo was opposing Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces on September 24, which could have made our perceptions of relationships a bit foggy.  Or it could manifest in an AHA moment that brings inspiration.  Some of us might decide to quit a job or relationship as a result of the Venus-Neptune opposition.  Mercury in Virgo will also be opposing Neptune in Pisces, which could lead to some over idealism and a lack of clarity in relationships.  But Mercury in Virgo is trining Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn on the New Moon, so we should take advantage of this energy to dig deep for answers in relationships because this is a powerful aspect.

Venus in 25 degrees of Virgo and Mercury in 27 degrees of Virgo are involved in a T-square with Mars in 18 degrees of Gemini on the New Moon as well.  This just adds to the level of mental energy present. Our minds are running on a full tank thanks to the adrenaline boost that Mars in Gemini is providing.

On September 29, Venus moves into its happy place when it enters Libra.  Venus rules Taurus and Libra, so it is fully able to express itself when it is either one of these signs.  Venus remains in Libra until October 23.  Venus in Libra employs charm rather than aggression to get what it wants.  It is a very social vibe and we will probably find ourselves more willing to negotiate and compromise in relationships.  We also adopt a more idealistic perspective about love which can get us in a bit of trouble if we are not careful.  We also need to be mindful of falling into the rabbit hole of passive-aggressive behavior when Venus is in Libra.  Venus in Libra loves beauty and the arts too.  The shadow side of this affinity for luxury is a tendency to spend too much money, so watch those credit cards...

A Powerful New Moon in Libra Features Pluto Stationing Direct and Venus Enters Sagittarius

 

The month of October is starting off with quite the bang.  We will be experiencing the second of three exact squares between Mercury in Libra and Pluto in 24 degrees of Capricorn.  The first one occurred on September 22, when I tweeted:

Communication could get turbulent today with Mercury in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn and the Aries Moon opposing Mercury. Power struggles and sharp words are likely manifestations of this energy. #astrology

Mercury and Pluto are both retrograde on October 1 and this aspect will happen again on November 2 when both planets are direct.

The big news of the coming week is the powerful New Moon in 13 degrees of Libra on October 6.  Pluto is also stationing direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn after having been retrograde since April 27.  Pluto direct will bring about changes and transformation in government, power, and justice that have felt like they were on pause since last spring.  We are definitely purging the past. In terms of the past, I was particularly moved by astrologer Pam Gregory’s comment in her latest video on the New Moon in Libra that we should not be investing any life support energy to the structures of the past. I confess that I have been gripped with bouts of nostalgia for the “good old days” pre-COVID but they are not returning.   It’s time to accept that and move on.

The New Moon in Libra is also conjunct Mars in 13 degrees of Libra.  This adds to the energy levels and is a strong motivating factor for us to seek out justice.  But I would not recommend taking any major risks on this New Moon with Mars involved because Uranus in 13 degrees of Taurus is inconjunct the Sun, Moon and Mars in Libra which can spell accidents if we are not careful.  Uranus has a way of bringing radical and unexpected changes.  Surprises can abound and it is highly likely that truths will be revealed that are quite shocking. Mercury in Libra is also inconjunct Neptune in Pisces, so the media could be having a field day with juicy stories.

New Moons are a time to set new intentions and with this one being in Libra, we should be focusing on relationships, harmony and justice.  Chiron in 10 degrees of Aries also features prominently in this New Moon because it opposes the Sun, Moon and Mars in Libra.  Chiron in Aries wants to take action to fix things because it is a cardinal fire sign and that is what it likes to do.  Cardinal signs love to initiate action.  But Chiron involves healing old wounds, which isn’t always easy.  Chiron could heal others but he had to learn how to live with his limitations.  I suspect that it something we have all had to deal with on some level during this pandemic.  I have my natal Chiron in 24 degrees of Capricorn in my 4^th house so the ongoing Mercury-Pluto square has had a major impact on me.  I also watch Penny Thornton’s astrology videos and was quite inspired by what she had to say about converting our pain into power and becoming more empowered by difficult circumstances.  This is particularly appropriate with Pluto stationing direct on the New Moon.

Venus moves into the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius on October 7, where it stays until November 5.  Venus in Scorpio was quite intense but it did give us the cosmic gift of trining Neptune in Pisces on September 29, inspiring me to tweet:

Venus transiting the sign of Sagittarius is a whole different ball game.  The intensity level in love will go down a bit, but we will feel more buoyant and optimistic as we seek out truth and higher meaning.  Honesty is very important when Venus is in Sagittarius, so feel free to lay out all of your cards on the table.  We will also be feeling more spontaneous, wanting to live life to the fullest and try out new experiences as it is easier for us to be more sociable and outgoing.  Venus in Sagittarius can also be blunt with its fiery enthusiasm.  But it’s not as calculated or malicious as Venus in Scorpio can be, so enjoy the blast of fire energy.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. At some point, probably in 2022, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. This new Delta strain of the virus is very serious and we need to remain vigilant with our masks, even if we are fully vaccinated.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!  

 

A Super New Moon in Libra and the Sun Enters Scorpio

 

We have a Super New Moon in 23 degrees of Libra today that is really generating lots of tension with its hits to the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.  It’s called a super new moon because it is so close to the earth.  Traditionally, a new moon in Libra is a time associated with the themes of love, peace and seeking balance and harmony, but 2020 has not exactly been a traditional year. Some people may find themselves restoring a sense of balance through arguments and mediation with attorneys.

Why is this new moon generating so much tension?  Chalk it up to the cardinal T-square.  This new moon in 23 degrees of Libra is squaring the triumvirate of planets in Capricorn: Jupiter in 19 degrees, Pluto in 22 degrees and Saturn in 25 degrees and opposing retrograde Mars in 20 degrees of Aries.  The moon squaring Jupiter may pose some difficulties in uniting our sensitive feelings and emotions with our impulse to expand and manifest our dreams, which could slow down our motivation.  The new moon squaring Pluto will undoubtedly increase our need to be in control, so don’t be surprised if ego conflicts with authority figures arise.  The moon squaring Pluto could also expose our deeply buried fears pertaining to death, persecution and loss of control.  A new moon in Libra squaring Saturn in Capricorn has themes of testing our character and providing challenges, delays, restrictions and extra responsibilities.  We need to face our challenges head on or things will only get worse.  The hit to Saturn can also bring feelings of depression and pessimism, but try to remember that this is only temporary.

The new moon in 23 degrees of Libra opposes retrograde Mars in 20 degrees of Aries and this might make it feel more like a full moon.  It will trigger feelings of irritability, hostility, jealousy, aggression, impulsiveness and sexual tension.  The most constructive way of dealing with this energy is to be open and honest about dealing with our strong desires and have a physical outlet to release tension: either exercise or sex with a trusted partner.  We are also dealing with Mars in Aries squaring Pluto in Capricorn, which will intensify the themes of needing to be in control, power struggles and aggressive reactions to situations that are seemingly out of our control.

As I mentioned earlier, the cardinal signs are bearing the brunt of this new moon in Libra. But it goes without saying that we should all be setting new intentions and planting the seeds on this new moon because they will come up for reassessment when we have a full moon in Libra on March 28, 2021. Aries will see this new moon in their 7^th house of relationships and this could provide the impetus for positive changes.  Cancer will have this new moon in their 10^th house of career and public standing, which could not only affect their careers but their marital status. Capricorn will have a new moon in their 4^th house of home and family, which could play out as a physical move to another home, home renovations or even a new family member.  There might even be more harmony on the home front.  And Libra will have the opportunity to embark on a whole new cycle and address personal issues, their image and the chance to do something different to further their ambitions. 

I may be a Scorpio, but I have a cardinal T-square in my chart that will be heavily activated by this new moon in Libra.  It conjuncts my Juno and Neptune in Libra in my 1^st house, squares my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4^th house and squares my midheaven, Uranus and Jupiter in my 10^th house.

Speaking of Scorpio, the sun enters Scorpio on October 22, 2020.  It is joining Mercury, which stationed retrograde in 11 degrees of Scorpio on October 13^th, when I tweeted:

When the sun is in Scorpio, intensity rules and there is an all or nothing vibe. We have a strong drive to uncover the truth and engage in some deep research and investigation.  It is time for some serious soul searching.  The sun in Scorpio can also be a very healing and transformative period.  

But there is also a shadow side to Scorpio: a tendency towards jealousy, vindictiveness and manipulation.  The best way to deal with the sun in Scorpio is to rise above your limitations and restrictions so that you literally become the phoenix rising from the ashes.  Pardon the pun.

Relationships Are Emphasized with a New Moon in Libra and Mercury Entering Scorpio

Big changes are on the horizon for relationships.  After several months of enduring months of planets retrograde, we caught a break on September 30, 2018 when Pluto stationed direct in 18 degrees of Capricorn.  On that day I tweeted:

This means that the only outer planets that are retrograde now are Uranus in Taurus and Neptune in Pisces.  Of course, Venus is stationing retrograde in 10 degrees of Scorpio on October 5, 2018 until November 16, 2018, which I covered in last week’s blog post.

But relationships are definitely set for some major changes this week.  On October 8, 2018, we have a new moon in 15 degrees of Libra.  We all know the theory about new moons being a perfect time to initiate changes, but when that new moon is squaring the newly direct Pluto in 18 degrees of Capricorn, transformation and change are inevitable.  We also have five planets in cardinal signs on the day of the new moon: the sun in Libra, the moon in Libra, Mercury in Libra, Saturn in Capricorn and Pluto in Capricorn.  The cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) are literally the movers and shakers in the astrological universe.

The sun and moon in the relationship oriented sign of Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn brings themes of intensity, power plays, control, manipulation and jealousy.  And to cap off that intensity, Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, the sign ruled by Pluto.  Venus in Scorpio is also squaring Mars in Aquarius and opposing Uranus in Taurus, which can emphasize the polarity between control and possessiveness vs. independence and freedom.

We are catching a couple more breaks astrologically with this new moon, however.  The Mars in Aquarius/Uranus in Taurus square which has been active since mid-May 2018 is finally separating.  Hopefully this will tame or at least reduce some of the extreme earth events (volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, etc.,) that have characterized Uranus in Taurus.  And Venus in Scorpio is sweetly trining Neptune in Pisces, which should provide a softer and more creative vibe as we can hope to attain more of an internal feeling of oneness, especially with both planets being retrograde. 

Uranus in Taurus will be squaring the nodes of the moon in Leo (north node) and Aquarius (south node) through the rest of 2018, despite Uranus dipping back into Aries in November 2018.  The nodes will be moving into Cancer and Capricorn in early November but will face the same Uranus transit due to Uranus in Aries. The north node represents our collective destiny and with Uranus squaring it, we can expect some technological innovations.  But we must also be prepared for sudden shocks, surprises and strange political events.  If you have any planets in 0-3 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, you will feel this effect big time.  My natal Mercury is in 0 degrees of Scorpio, so I have also been experiencing an opposition transit.

Communication in relationships will get a lot more serious on October 9, 2018 when Mercury enters Scorpio until October 31, 2018.  Mercury in Scorpio will shine a light on the darkest parts of ourselves.  It brings more awareness of our fears and desires but also uncovers our inner skeptic and places more of an emphasis on negative thinking as we become more suspicious and obsessive. Communications will undoubtedly get a lot more probing and intense.  I can certainly attest to this truth with my natal Mercury in Scorpio.

The new moon in Libra and Mercury in Scorpio are also playing out against the backdrop of Venus retrograde in Scorpio.  Venus retrograde is a time to reflect on relationships and indulge in a little bit of self-love.  But I do caution against getting married or investing in major cosmetic surgery during Venus retrograde.  If the Venus retrograde is occurring in your 1^st, 5^th, 7^th, or 11^th house, you will experience some deep reflections and insights in your relationships, even if it is not romantic relationships.  Don’t forget that the 11^th house pertains to friendships, and many people have been undergoing big changes in their friendships lately. 

This Venus retrograde period, which starts at 10 degrees of Scorpio and ends at 25 degrees of Libra on November 16^, 2018, is a repeat of the Venus Retrograde that occurred in October 2010.  You might find it helpful to reflect on what issues were prevalent in your life back then.
