An Active Week as Venus Enters Virgo, a Solar Eclipse in Virgo, Mars Enters Scorpio and the Sun Moves into Libra

 

Hang on for a wild ride during the coming week.  As astrologer David Zunker posted on Blue Sky Social, "Here in Eclipse Alley, everything is intensified."  This really sums up the feeling of the entire month.

Let's break it down. On September 19, Venus departs dramatic Leo for the mutable earth sign of Virgo, where it resides until October 13.  Love is going to take on a whole different flavor than when it was in Leo.  We tend to express our affection through service to others with Venus now. Venus in Virgo can also feature more attention to detail in creative work and/or financial planning. Don't forget that Venus is also associated with money.  When Venus is in Virgo, we tend to be more reserved and discriminating in relationships.  Try to engage in some self-care too, because Venus is in a sensual earth sign.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Venus in Virgo is a tendency towards being critical and perfectionist.

On September 21, we have the second New Moon in Virgo in 2025.  The first one occurred on August 23 in 0 degrees of Virgo, but this one is a partial Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo.  That's right, the critical or anaretic degree.  There is a major theme of release with this eclipse because it is near the South Node of the Moon in 18 degrees of Virgo.  It is more karmic and there is a feeling that we are reaping what we have sown.  There could be some major news about health crises during this eclipse. 

This Solar Eclipse is also making major aspects to the outer planets.  For starters, it is opposing Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces.  This entails the themes of structure and surrender.  Saturn is not especially comfortable in Pisces and it is retrograde to boot.  But the Sun and Moon in the last degree of Virgo are calling for some kind of ending to a crisis, perhaps a health issue.  Just be careful not to get caught up in self-deception or escapism during this eclipse.  

The Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo is also forming an opposition to Neptune in 0 degrees of Aries, which heightens the potential for tempting illusions.   And it squares Uranus in 1 degree of Gemini, which only further fuels the wild card vibe with the potential for disruptions in information or communication.

We also have a couple of irritating inconjuncts with this Solar Eclipse.  It inconjuncts Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius, which can require adjustments in power systems.  The Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Virgo also inconjuncts Chiron in 26 degrees of Aries.  This is bound to be emotionally uncomfortable as we experience increased sensitivity to old hurts and wounds.  We will need to confront those wounds to adjust and heal them.

There are some positive aspects present during this Solar Eclipse.  Pluto in Aquarius is trining Uranus in Gemini, which is a favorable influence for making the radical changes that are necessary. The Moon in Virgo is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 21 degrees of Cancer (where it is exalted), which in my mind is the saving grace aspect of this eclipse because it brings optimism, good fortune and faith in the future.

We all know that eclipses come in pairs and the last one occurred on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces.  This was a North Node eclipse and we might find that the Solar Eclipse in Virgo can activate some new developments that could have started two weeks ago. Anyone with planets or points in the middle degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius would have felt the effects of this eclipse more acutely.

Eclipses don't just happen on that one day.  The effects can be felt for a good five months.  Many people were saddened this week to hear about the death of Robert Redford on September 16.  I couldn't resist looking at his chart.  The Lunar Eclipse on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces was opposing his natal Neptune in 15 degrees of Virgo in his 6th house of health. It also squared his Jupiter in 14 degrees of Sagittarius in his 9th house. When he died, Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces was conjunct his Ascendant.  And the upcoming Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo squares his Midheaven in 29 degrees of Sagittarius, ensuring that his passing would generate big news. As astrologers say, you can't make this stuff up.  Eclipses tell a story and sometimes that story has an ending.

On September 22, Mars, the planet representing drive, action, motivation and desire, enters Scorpio until November 4.  Mars is very strong in Scorpio because it was considered the ruler  of Scorpio until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  It is right at home in this fixed water sign.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we have the tenacity to persevere through difficult challenges and get to the bottom of things.  We have the power to unleash our drive and ambition.  There is no shortage of willpower.  Be prepared for some heavy-duty psychological self-examination.  But be aware that the shadow of Mars in Scorpio is that we can be inclined to seek out revenge, engage in power struggles or find it difficult to forgive. Mars in Scorpio will be squaring Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on September 24. This will highlight issues of anger, passion and power struggles.  It can also instigate changes in leadership.  Adding to the mix on that day is the fact the Moon enters Scorpio, which will intensify the emotional vibration.

The Sun moves into Libra on September 22.  Our focus shifts to finding balance and harmony in relationships. Reconciliations are possible now because we really don't want to go it alone now. We tend to feel more sociable and since Libra is the cardinal air sign, we could be initiating contact with others.  We also appreciate beauty and the finer things in life, so shopping trips could be on the agenda for some of us.  The shadow side of the Sun in Libra is that we can be indecisive because we see both sides of situations and we can also be passive-aggressive.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A New Moon in Leo, Venus Enters Virgo and Mercury Retrograde

 

August is here and it will be one wild and active month.  It starts off with a promising New Moon in 12 degrees of Leo on August 4.  The themes associated with a New Moon in Leo include lightness, friendliness and playfulness.  Leo is ruled by the Sun, so having a New Moon in this sign can be very social and fun. The Moon is forming supportive sextiles to Jupiter in 14 degrees of Gemini and Mars in 10 degrees of Gemini, which will supply a great deal of motivation and luck.  The New Moon in Leo sextiling Jupiter in Gemini helps us to be more optimistic about our future while the sextile to Mars in Gemini ensures that whatever action we take should culminate in positive results. The strong Gemini influence can bring new ideas and favorable communication, so please feel free to take advantage of whatever opportunities present themselves to you. Don't forget to set your intentions on this New Moon.

Are there any downsides to this New Moon? Well, Venus in Leo is forming a rather irritating inconjunct to Neptune in 29 degrees of Pisces.  Since both planets are in 29 degrees of their respective signs, this can denote a critical time that highlights disillusionment, dreams, a desire for escapism and perhaps some confusion in our relationships.  We might find ourselves needing to make some adjustments in our perception of reality on this New Moon.

Venus enters the mutable earth sign of Virgo at 10:23 pm on August 4 and will remain in Virgo until August 29.  Venus in Virgo tends to express love through practical means, as in service to others and perhaps doing errands for loved ones. When Venus is in Virgo we will want to work harder on relationships to fix them.  It is not a time when we will feel particularly self-indulgent and the shadow side of Venus in Virgo is a tendency to be too critical or picky with others.

Venus in Virgo is inconjunct Pluto in 0 degrees of Aquarius on August 5.  This can bring intense longings for passion and possible obsessions.  Control issues and manipulation could also erupt. Once again, we could be dealing with the needs to make some adjustments.

But the main event of August 5 is Mercury stationing retrograde in 4 degrees of Virgo at 12:56 a.m.  If you are feeling that Mercury retrograde has been affecting you already, just be advised that Mercury retrograde entered its shadow period on July 16 in 21 degrees of Leo. I never discount the shadow period of Mercury retrograde and you shouldn't either.  We are going to be dealing with the usual communication and transportation delays and snafus until August 28.  This will be an especially intense Mercury retrograde because it occurs in two signs: Virgo and Leo.  When Mercury is retrograde in Virgo, we will be looking for perfection and order.  Mercury reenters Leo on August 14 and there will be more drama and misunderstandings.  Yes, folks, we will no doubt be experiencing confusion and tension galore during this Mercury retrograde, so use this time to reflect, review and reassess.

On August 7, the Sun in Leo will be forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 15 degrees of Gemini.  This aspect is associated with good fortune, optimism and happiness.  Feel free to take advantage of whatever opportunities cross your path on this day.  The main thing to remember with Jupiter is that while it represents good luck, it's the type of planet that if you snooze you lose. Pay attention to it!  It's not like Saturn that tends to clobber you to get its message through.

Mars and Venus Change Signs While Pluto Stations Direct

 

Brace yourself for a heavy week ahead of next week's Solar Eclipse in Libra.  On October 8, we have two major planetary events.  Mars in Libra forms an exact square with Pluto in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  The last time we had a Mars-Pluto square was on July 1, 2022 when Mars was in Aries and Pluto was in Capricorn.  What can we expect this time? Let's just say that self-control will be missing in action as anger, impulsiveness and compulsive behavior rule the roost.  Mars is considered to be in detriment in Libra, so passive-aggressive actions are very common.  This aspect can trigger lots of conflict to see who get the upper hand.  Mars squaring Pluto can give us courage and willpower but it is accompanied by an intense desire to gain control. And we all know that this frequently leads to power struggles and confrontations. Issues of law and order could be an arena for these conflicts.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire as Mars is conjunct my Neptune and Juno in Libra and squaring my Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house while also squaring my Chiron in Capricorn in y 4th house.  And Pluto in Capricorn is a mere three degrees away from my natal Chiron and opposing that Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer while squaring my Neptune and Juno in Libra in my 1st house. So I am issuing a friendly warning to anyone who has planets in 24-29 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn to be on alert on October 8...

Venus is entering the mutable earth sign of Virgo on October 8 too.  Venus has been in Leo since June 5 due to that lovely Venus retrograde we experienced from July 22 through September 3.  Venus is clearing its retrograde shadow on October 7, in case you are interested. Venus will be in Virgo until November 8, but we need to be mindful of the fact that Venus is considered to be in fall in Virgo because it is exalted in Pisces.  Venus in Virgo is a time to express love through practical means and service to others.  It is definitely not as flashy, dramatic or flamboyant as Venus in Leo.  So we are in for some changes.  Venus in Virgo is an earth sign, though, so we are not exactly going to be ignoring earthy pleasures.  It's just not the best time to find a new love because of Virgo's perfectionist standards.  That is the shadow side of Venus in Virgo: we can be too critical of partners.  That goes for existing partners, as well as potential ones. The bottom line is that we are more reserved and discriminating.  Venus in Virgo can be beneficial for practical financial decisions, though.  Venus in Virgo is also a boon for holistic healing methods, so feel free to try out acupuncture or Reiki.

Pluto in Capricorn is stationing direct on October 10 in 27 degrees of Capricorn after having been retrograde since May 1.  It actually stationed retrograde in 0 degrees of Aquarius, which was when we got a taste of life with Pluto in Aquarius because Pluto briefly entered Aquarius on March 23, 2023.  Pluto will re-enter Aquarius on January 20, 2024 when the Sun enters Aquarius, but it will retrograde in Aquarius on May 2, 2024 in 2 degrees of Aquarius and re-enter Capricorn on September 1, 2024 for its last stint in Capricorn. This means that the 2024 elections in the United States occur while Pluto is in Capricorn. Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19, 2024 until March 8, 2043.  The major theme with Pluto being direct until next May is that we have the chance to practice acceptance of the changes that are being thrust upon us as only Pluto can do.  It has a way of tearing down the structures of our life for rebirth to happen. And, as I have often said, rebirth ain't always pretty...

Venus in Virgo is also opposing Saturn in 1 degree of Pisces on October 10.  This is a real buzz kill aspect, no sugar coating it.  We can expect to experience delays and limitations in love and finances.  It's not the most social vibe, so keep your expectations low on this day.

Mars enters Scorpio on October 12 and stays there until November 24, 2023.  Mars is a very happy camper in the sign of Scorpio and was considered to be the ruling planet of Scorpio (as well as Aries) until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  Mars in Scorpio is passionate, determined and dedicated.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we can be very focused on getting what we want and we are direct about it, unlike Mars in Libra.  We are not afraid to tackle the important issues and are attracted to crisis because it is transformative and emotionally exciting.  We can be obsessively focused, instinctive and tenacious.  Backing down is not in Mars in Scorpio's vocabulary.  Drive and passion are strong with Mars in Scorpio, but stubbornness is part of the package because it is the fixed water sign.

And get a vaccine. The newest vaccine is available and I encourage you to get it to protect yourself. I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! A Relatively Quiet Week as Mercury Spars with Jupiter and Venus Enters Virgo

 

Surprise, surprise, the first week of September is relatively quiet astrologically.  It began on an extremely positive note on September 1 when Mars in Gemini formed a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Aries imbuing us with a boatload of energy and a sense of luck.

On September 2 Mercury in Libra is in an exact opposition to Jupiter in 6 degrees of Aries.  We all know that Jupiter loves to do things in an expansive way.  This aspect is bound to bring big ideas and grandiose plans with a sense of optimism for the future.  Sounds pretty good, right?  Just be mindful of the fact that we could have a tendency to gloss over the details.  And by all means, be careful what you say.  Mercury in Libra (which is slowing down for its retrograde station on September 9) loves to talk but Jupiter in Aries has no boundaries, and therein lies the rub.  It will be incredibly easy to shoot off our mouths and come across as opinionated and overbearing.  This could make it difficult to find solutions that work for all parties as we are challenged to be realistic in terms of what we are promising others.  There is definitely a sky is the limit vibe with this aspect.  Mercury is stationing retrograde in Libra on the 9th (more on this in next week's post) but it will be re-entering Virgo on the 23rd and we could be facing some heavy analysis of whatever promises we made during the Mercury-Jupiter opposition.  And don't forget that Jupiter is retrograde until November 23, 2022.  Not to mention that Jupiter makes one last trip into Pisces on October 28 until it moves back into Aries on December 20, 2022.

Venus is departing the dramatic, fun-loving and flamboyant fire sign of Leo on September 5 to move into the mutable earth sign of Virgo until September 29.  Venus is actually considered to be in fall in Virgo because it is exalted in Pisces and is a very happy camper in Taurus and Libra, which it rules. When Venus is in Virgo, there is a more serious vibe to relationships. Venus in Virgo is not a time for casual flings, unlike when Venus was in Leo. Venus in Virgo is far more practical and grounded.  This can be a good influence for our finances, though as Venus also pertains to money. Virgo is a sign associated with healing and service to others, so we tend to demonstrate our love by doing things for others and taking care of them.  Virgo also has to do with over-analysis and perfectionism.  The shadow side of Venus in Virgo is a tendency to be overly critical of our partners or to be picky and demanding. Just remember that if you don't particularly enjoy the more practical side of Venus in Virgo, it will be ending the month in Libra, where it is positively ecstatic.

I will cover the Mercury retrograde in greater detail in next week's post, but keep in mind that Mercury is slowing down and actually entered its retrograde shadow on August 20 when Mars entered Gemini.  I don't know about you, but I am already experiencing the Mercury retrograde effects with scheduling snafus and electronic breakdowns.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Pluto Stirs the Pot, Venus Moves into Virgo and the Sun Enters Its Happy Place in Leo

Emotions are running high these days.  Mercury entered Cancer on July 11, inspiring me to tweet:

We have had some pretty sweet aspects this week with Mercury in Cancer trining Jupiter in Pisces on the 12^th, Venus and Mars conjunct in Leo on the 13^th and the Sun in Cancer trining Neptune in Pisces on the 14^th.  But the planets are moving around and on the 14^th we also experienced Chiron stationing retrograde in Aries.  On that day I tweeted:

Things are about to get a lot more intense in the coming week building up to the Full Moon on July 23. I’ll cover that in next week’s post.  It will start on July 17 when the Sun in Cancer exactly opposes Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn.  This could very well be a crisis time involving issues pertaining to self-esteem, relationships or events. It will feel like things are out of our control and change might be forced upon us.  Watch out for manipulation, jealousy and all-out domination.  This aspect screams power struggles.  Transformation is inevitable, so try to channel it in the most positive way be embracing the change.  I know that I will feeling this aspect strongly, because Pluto is parked on my natal Chiron in my 4^th house.  It’s also squaring my Neptune in Libra in my 1^st house and Pluto is inconjunct my natal Pluto in Leo in my 11^th house. And the Cancer is Sun is conjunct my Midheaven, Jupiter and Uranus.   I am not escaping this aspect, that’s for sure.  It’s times like these when the Serenity Prayer comes in handy.  In case you are not familiar with it, this is the Serenity Prayer: “God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.”  All I can say is that I am grateful that this aspect only occurs once a year.

But Pluto isn’t through with us by a long shot.  On July 18, Venus in Leo is inconjunct Pluto in Capricorn.  This will be another day of intense emotional experiences.  Adjustments and compromises will undoubtedly need to be made.  We can definitely expect volatility in relationships and the potential for tempers to flare is strong.  Emotional abuse is also a potential casualty of this aspect.

I am no stranger to Pluto since I am a Scorpio.  I also have Pluto squaring my natal Sun and Venus in Scorpio.  It is very nice having a Sun-Venus conjunction, but it is a bit more challenging with them both squaring Pluto, so when these type of aspects crop up, I feel them intensely. 

But on July 21 Venus leaves the fun-loving sign of Leo for Virgo. Venus will remain in Virgo until August 16.  Venus in Virgo is considered to be in fall, because Venus in Virgo has a tougher time conveying affection.  Love tends to be expressed through practical means, such as doing things for others and rendering services is a big theme.  But don’t think that sensuality is lost because Venus in Virgo is still an earth sign and earth signs love their physical pleasures.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Venus in Virgo is that it tends to be more critical of partners.

On the following day, July 22, the Sun enters its happy place, the fixed fire sign of Leo.  The Sun rules Leo and when the Sun is in Leo, it’s time to play, indulge our creativity and take pride in being the center of our attention. We tend to be more generous and grand with our gestures of affection.  This is the time of year to let your inner child out to play and it’s quite obvious why so many people take vacations at this time of year.  The shadow side of the Sun in Leo is a tendency for egos to run rampant, extreme vanity and self-centeredness.  If we keep this in mind, we should be able to enjoy the Sun transiting its home sign of Leo.
