A Slow Start to 2022 with a Heavy Capricorn Influence and Retrogrades

 

It is 2022, but the scuttle that I am hearing is that most people still feel like we are in 2021.  We are continuing to deal with the pandemic as the number of Omicron cases rise daily.  We had a New Moon in Capricorn on January 2, when I tweeted:

We have a #NewMoon in Capricorn today that trines Uranus in Taurus. Set those intentions for a fresh start in 2022 and plant the seeds. Capricorn is a very goal oriented sign so this is an auspicious beginning. #astrology

We need to remember that Capricorn is the sign ruled by Saturn and let’s face it, Saturn loves to make us wait and test our patience as it teaches us important lessons.  Further complicating matters is that Venus is retrograde in Capricorn (it stationed retrograde in 26 degrees of Capricorn on December 19, 2021) and it remains retrograde until January 29, 2022 when it stations direct in 11 degrees of Capricorn. And while Mercury entered the sign of Aquarius on January 2, it is starting to slow down for its first retrograde of 2022 on January 14.  Yes, it stations retrograde in 10 degrees of Aquarius, but it winds up back in Capricorn on January 25.  It will station direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn on February 3 and remain in Capricorn until February 14, 2022. 

The bottom line with Venus and Mercury retrograde is that they aren’t making a lot of aspects when they are slowed down and retrograde so it can feel like nothing is happening.  These are personal planets, remember?  The theme of slow and steady Capricorn is reinforced by the fact that both Venus and Mercury will have several meet-ups with Pluto in Capricorn.  Venus in Capricorn has already conjuncted Pluto twice, the first time on December 11 and the second time on Christmas Day.  Mercury in Capricorn conjuncted Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn on December 30, 2021 and it will again when Mercury in 26 degrees of Capricorn is retrograde on January 28, 2022. Venus and Pluto will meet up for the third time on March 3 in 27 degrees of Capricorn when both planets are direct while Mercury and Pluto will have their third rendezvous on February 11, 2022 when they are both direct in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  I personally love what astrologer Rick Levine says about Pluto being like Roto-Rooter because it clears out the shit!  Pluto’s job is to bring the unseen out into the open and it is about rebirth, which I always say ain’t pretty!

But the Capricorn Sun is making two very sweet aspects this week which are nothing to sneeze at.  On January 8, the Sun and retrograde Venus in 19 degrees of Capricorn are conjunct.  This is a very friendly, gentle and loving vibe that is also favorable for creativity and attracting money.  I have a retrograde Venus in Scorpio conjunct my Sun and I can attest to its benefits.  The Sun conjunct Venus is charming, fun-loving and can be prone to bouts of laziness, but it does occur on a weekend, so I say make the most of it and enjoy yourself.

On January 10, the Capricorn Sun is forming a supportive sextile to Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces.  This aspect will heighten our sensitivity, intuition, imagination and creativity.  We should also find ourselves having more empathy towards others and experiencing more insights.  Pay attention to your dreams now because Neptune is working overtime. 

We might feel a little stuck during the first half of January but I can assure you that the pace picks up in the second half of January with a Full Moon in Cancer on the 17^th, Uranus stationing direct on the 18^th and the Sun entering Aquarius on the 19^th.  We also have the True Nodes of the Moon moving from Gemini and Sagittarius to Taurus and Scorpio on the 18^th.  More on all of that in next week’s post…

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine.  If you are eligible for a booster shot, get it. The Omicron strain of the virus is spreading like wildfire these days.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy, everyone! 

 

 

Mercury Enters its Retrograde Shadow Period and Triggers the Uranus Pluto Square

Mercury is poised to enter its “shadow period” before its official retrograde commences on January 5, 2016 in 1 degree of Aquarius.  But most of this Mercury retrograde will be concentrated on the sign of Capricorn.  Mercury will enter the shadow on December 19, 2015 in 14 degrees of Capricorn and will continue transiting the sign of Capricorn before it stations retrograde on January 5^th in 1 degree of Aquarius.  Mercury will station direct in 14 degrees of Capricorn on January 25, 2016 and will officially leave the “shadow period” on February 14, 2016. In 1 degree of Aquarius. So, Valentine’s Day should be really special in 2016, and the potential for mixed messages will be eliminated.

When Mercury enters its retrograde shadow on December 19^th it will also be conjuncting Pluto in 14 degrees of Capricorn.  Communication could get really intense on this day.  On the following day, December 20^th, Mercury will be squaring Uranus in 16 degrees of Aries.  This aspect is ripe with potential for surprises and shocking revelations.  Major decisions may need to be made and there are definitely more changes coming.  We may find ourselves open to new ideas that alter the course of our future and we may find ourselves speaking our truth even more forcefully than usual. Mercury aspecting both Pluto and Uranus on two consecutive days will definitely trigger the shock waves that reverberated from the seven exact Uranus Pluto squares that ran their course from 2012 through 2015.  Although we won’t experience any more exact Uranus Pluto squares, the weekend of December 19-20^th will come pretty to close to bringing back that roller coaster feeling of conflict between structure and change.  And it will resurface again during the first week of February 2016. This could be an anxious, mentally exhausting weekend.  

How will people experience Mercury’s shadow retrograde?  Be mindful that when Mercury enters the shadow period, the very things we associate with Mercury retrograde- delays in communications and transportation, avoiding signing contracts or accepting new jobs, and purchase of electronic goods are fraught with potential to go astray.  I hope that everyone has purchased all of their electronic gifts by now.  Mercury retrograde is all about the RE: reschedule, rethink, reevaluate, research, and rewrite.  If you have any planets in 14-29 degrees of Capricorn, your career may take a hit from this Mercury retrograde.  And if you have any planets in 0-1 degree of Aquarius, you may also feel this one in terms of unconventional ideas surfacing. 

Personally, I will be experiencing this Mercury transit in a big way.  Mercury in Capricorn will be exactly conjunct my natal Chiron in the 4^th house on December 27, 2015 and again on February 8, 2016 as it prepares to leaves the shadow period.  The perks of this transit can manifest in an increase of my intuitive understanding (which is great for my business), sudden awareness of new ideas for healing, and being open to embracing new ways of solving old problems.  But the flip side is that I could become hypersensitive and feel wounded by what it is communicated.

And when Mercury officially enters it retrograde period on January 5, 2016 in 1 degree of Aquarius, it will be squaring my natal Mercury in Scorpio.  WHAT FUN!  How is that one going to play out for me?  It will probably be a day of frustrations when I am going in too many different directions, trying to be the ultimate multi-tasker with too many choices facing me.  I may wind up in a very argumentative mood that day.  Beware to anyone who tries to cross me that day.  But I get to experience it again on February 14^th.  Let’s hope that I learn my lessons well in January so that I don’t feel like my life is taking on a Groundhog Day atmosphere in February!

The north node moved into Virgo recently, which has an underlying theme of service to others.  In that spirit of pursuing my path as a healer, I am channeling that north node and Jupiter in Virgo energy by offering my Reiki services. Change of Seasons - The Winter Solstice and a Sign Change for Saturn

Once again, folks, there are big things happening astrologically this week. Many of us are still recovering from the recent Uranus Pluto square on December 15th (I know I am), but on December 21st, the Sun and moon move into the sign of Capricorn for a new moon that marks the Winter Solstice and the official beginning of winter. Adding to the mix is the fact that Uranus stations direct at 12 degrees of Aries. Could there be a possibility for things to calm down?

As someone who has Uranus retrograde natally, I am usually quite comfortable with Uranus retrograde, but even I have to confess that the past couple of weeks have been uber frenetic and I am looking forward to a little more stability.

Enter the season of Capricorn. On December 21st, the sun and moon join Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn. This heralds a more serious tone signaling a time to rest and reflect. It is also a perfect time to set plans and intentions and create goals for the new year. On December 20th, Venus conjuncts Pluto, deepening connections and memories of emotional loss. But on the 21st, the day of the winter solstice, Venus in Capricorn sextiles Chiron in Pisces, so there is room and the opportunity for healing of those painful emotions. That winter solstice creates a healing space for light to shine on those wounds. Bring it on! Mercury will be conjunct Pluto in Capricorn on Christmas Day as well as sextiling Chiron in Pisces, so don't count out a Merry Christmas full of honest, compassionate communication.

But as a true Scorpio, I can think of yet another important reason that Christmas 2014 will be a Merry Christmas. Drum roll, please - Saturn enters the sign of Sagittarius on December 23rd! I'd wager that Scorpios are rejoicing about this across the world after the past two and a half years!

There is definitely a chance for new possibilities with Saturn in the sign of Sagittarius because it is ruled by Jupiter, whose expansive nature tends to lighten up Saturn's restrictive energy. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto, which tends to create a lot of drama and sturm and drang. And it is no cosmic accident that Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is changing signs when the sun is in Capricorn.

As Saturn completes its transit through the last degree of Scorpio, a lot of dark thoughts rise up from the depths so that we can release our worst fears. It's important to remember that becoming conscious of our worst fears doesn't necessarily mean that they are real; it makes infinitely much more sense to interpret them as manifestations of our worst nightmares.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Super Full Thunder Moon in Capricorn

On July 12th we will experience a Super Full Thunder Moon in 20 degrees of Capricorn at 7:25 a.m. Why is it called a super full moon? A super full moon occurs when the moon's closest approach to the earth, aka the lunar perigee, coincides with the phase of the full moon. This causes the moon to appear bigger and brighter while increasing the likelihood of natural disasters. The Indians called the July full moon the Thunder Moon because of the frequent thunderstorms. I'm sure no one can argue with that logic after the weather of the past week!  I decided to use the pool in my building on July 7th and within ten minutes I received notifications on my cell phone of thunderstorm and tornado watches!  We had neither, but it did start pouring rain within a few minutes.

How is this full moon going to play out astrologically? We will be dealing with themes of balancing emotional security and home life with outer accomplishments and personal achievement. Ideally we will be trying to achieve stability and success while searching for deeper meaning in what we have created. Once again, I would like to give credit to fellow astrologer Molly Hall for her astute observations in this week's About Astrology. She commented that this full moon is about persevering through a crisis of growth, growing in personal authenticity, and honoring our commitments because Capricorn is tough love personified.

Relationship dynamics will also come to a head with this full moon because it sets off a mini Cardinal Grand Square this weekend. Mars, Ceres, Vesta and the north node in Libra will all be squaring the sun and moon. Mercury will be re-entering the sign of Cancer on the 12th as well, amping up the emotional tone of communication and providing an opportunity for us to review issues from late May and early June. Then Mercury continues to move forward in Cancer and leaves its shadow period by July 16th. But we can count on some planetary assistance in the relationship department because Mars in Libra conjuncts the north node, our soul's mission, and trines Venus in Gemini. I love those trines; they are literally hugs that provide support and encouragement in resolving relationship issues.

Personally, I think that the moon in Scorpio on July 7th set in motion the highly emotional tone for this full moon. It prompted me to post these two tweets on the7th:

"Cancer Sun trining Scorpio moon brings increased emotional sensitivity which can lead to generosity or jealousy and manipulation."

"Scorpio moon trining Neptune in Pisces elicits compassion but don't become a victim. Moon's trine to Chiron puts us in touch with our wounds."

Of course, the moon in Scorpio always directs emotions inward and people will have a tendency to react to psychological slights with a desire for revenge. On July 7th transiting Venus in Gemini was inconjunct Saturn in Scorpio, so that brought out more of a "stinging" tone to relationships because adjustments were needed. For many of us that may not have played out and the Scorpio stinger undoubtedly prevailed.

Another piece to this full moon is that Pluto in Capricorn is rising above it.   The moon enters the sign of Capricorn late on July 10^th and we should definitely feel its effects on Friday, July 11^th when the moon conjuncts Pluto.  There will be tension in the air and this is not going to be a lightweight full moon! 

The moon in Capricorn can have a depressing tone because it is ruled by Saturn, which emphasizes the learning of difficult lessons. I have a Scorpio friend who has a natal moon in Capricorn and she has noticed that depression looms for her when the moon is in Capricorn.  I hope that she can be free of that heavy depression during this full moon; perhaps she will be able to let go of that pattern.

As for me, this full moon will conjunct my natal Chiron in the 4th house and the Sun will conjunct my midheaven.  I am fully aware that this can bring up old wounds by contacts with people from the past to facilitate healing.  I am trying to focus on the concept that this will teach me to move through to the other side of pain. I am also trying to capitalize on that Capricorn energy and Sun in my 10^th house this weekend by formally announcing my Reiki Open House on July 20th to promote my career as a healer.  I have also been getting a few requests for my astrological and tarot services, so Jupiter in my 10^th house is definitely working its magic.  It started when transiting Jupiter in Cancer conjuncted my natal Uranus in the 10^th house last week, proving that astrology works.  Yes, I would like even more business, but I can’t be greedy.  I can definitely sense a shift in energy and I think that when Jupiter moves into Leo next week the pace will quicken.  Jupiter does have a lot to do with hope and faith, so I have to keep the faith and trust my inner guidance that all is unfolding as it should.
