Saturn Stations Direct and Venus Moves into Leo

Well, the August eclipses are over but there is still plenty of astrological action going on. Saturn in Sagittarius played a major role in the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017, inspiring me to tweet:
Saturn has been retrograde in Sagittarius since April 5, 2017, but on August 25, 2017, it will station direct in 21 degrees of Sagittarius to complete its transit of Sagittarius. Then Saturn enters its home sign of Capricorn on December 19, 2017.  Have you been feeling frustrated, anxious, restricted, limited and fearful for the past 4 ½ months? Blame it on Saturn Retrograde!  That is about to change because Saturn direct is giving us a green light to move forward.  Now we can actually deal with the fears and doubts that have been holding us back. How cool is that?  We may even wind up with a whole new perspective on any additional responsibilities we have had to assume in the past few months. Clearly, this will be a day of rejoicing and a cause for celebration.

The moon is in Libra on August 25th and it forms some very favorable aspects. For starters, it conjuncts Jupiter, which is bound to put us in a social, fun loving mood to start the weekend.  It also sextiles Mars in Leo and, TA-DA, it also sextiles Saturn in Sagittarius about 4 hours after Saturn stations direct. Hallelujah! Let’s get moving forward. If the recent eclipses didn’t shake you out of any ruts, complacency, or just feeling plain stuck, this astrological combo should get you moving.  I love it when Saturn plays nice with Mars and Jupiter. And this is due in large part to that peace and harmony loving Libra moon. Jupiter in Libra sextiling Saturn in Sagittarius should be a very favorable influence for hope and faith to align. It encourages manifesting an ideal and bringing more harmony and balance into our lives.

Venus gets in the act on the following day, August 26th, when it moves into Leo. We will all notice the shift in love, values and finances when Venus transits the fun loving fire sign until September 19th.  Venus in Leo brings more drama to love and finances for starters.  Venus in Leo brings fun, indulgence and demands.  It also enhances creativity and childlike enthusiasm but it does have a flip side of temper tantrums.  Competitiveness and excessive pride can also play out while Venus is transiting Leo.  Venus in Leo will draw attention to where you shine. For me, it starts in my 10th house of career before moving into my 11th house of friends, group associations and aspirations.

Venus transiting Leo is definitely an attention craving time as we seek adoration and admiration. It is a time of taking pride in love and can be very romantic. Leo is renowned for its generosity and excess, so some may wind up buying extravagant gifts for their loved ones during its transit. If you are curious as to where you need to shine, please consider getting an astrological reading.

The Great American Solar Eclipse in Leo

Three days and counting until the BIG DAY is here!  That’s right folks, the much awaited solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo (rounded up from 28 degrees and 53 seconds)  will occur at 2:30 p.m. on the east coast of the United States.  Those of us on the east coast won’t be able to view it, but all of us will feel its effects, if we haven’t started to already.

It is being called the Great American Eclipse because its shadow, the shadow of the moon, crosses the United States from the northwest to the southeast and touches no other nation. It has been ninety nine years since the last total solar eclipse followed this trajectory.  That one occurred on June 8, 1918 in 17 degrees of Gemini. The world was undergoing massive changes back then too—World War I was ending and the Russian Communist Party was formed after the overthrow of the Czar,

I believe that this eclipse is important because it is propelling us forward on a collective destiny and that there are great lessons to be learned from our history, especially if we don’t care to repeat past mistakes.  The events of the past week, including the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia and President Trump’s bizarre reaction to that rally in his press conference on August 15th, bear that out, On August 15, 2017, I tweeted:
I am no stranger to the intensity of challenging Venus Pluto aspects, being the proud owner of a retrograde Venus in Scorpio square Pluto in Leo aspect.  The opposition of Venus to Pluto triggers the same issues of power struggles, obsession and compulsive behavior

There is also the fact that the last solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo occurred on August 22, 1998 and precipitated the impeachment proceedings of President Bill Clinton which began in December 1998.  Don’t forget that the effects of a solar eclipse can be felt for up to one year after the actual date of the eclipse.

But now on to the astrology of the day. One of the major reasons this eclipse is so important to our future is the degree of the eclipse.  Twenty nine degrees of any sign is known as the “critical” degree because there is a sense of urgency in getting the lessons of that sign right.  It can literally be likened to the expression “last call” and this country is certainly in a time of crisis now.  When a planet is in 29 degrees of Leo (and we have both the sun and moon here), we have the full gamut of Leo themes playing out: courage, leadership, creativity, generosity, childlike joy or tyranny, arrogance, pride, self-centeredness, childish tantrums and melodrama. If we want to get it right with this Leo solar eclipse, the message is to let go of the ego and arrogance and live from the heart.  Is it a coincidence that this eclipse conjuncts President Trump’s Mars and Leo ascendant while squaring his Taurus midheaven?

I also want to emphasize that we have a beautiful Grand Fire Trine in place on the day of the solar eclipse which can be very beneficial. Both the sun and moon in Leo are trining Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius and Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  The trine to Uranus can deliver a jolt of inspiration, a sudden event or shock.  But Saturn’s presence can help stabilize and lay a foundation for the changes coming down the pike. Mars and the north node of the moon are also in Leo, adding to the mix and both are sextiling Jupiter in Libra, which is providing lots of enthusiasm and drive for the changes that we seek to implement. A solar eclipse conjunct the north node is indisputably propelling us forward on our collective destiny and Jupiter may well be providing us with opportunities.  Anyone who has planets between 21 and 28 degrees of the fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius will really feel this energy strongly.

Another complicating feature of this eclipse is Venus in Cancer, which is no astrological lightweight these days.  Just look at what happened a few days ago when it opposed Pluto in Capricorn.  Venus in 23 degrees of Cancer is squaring Jupiter in 20 degrees of Libra and Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  This configuration is all about relationship testing, issues of commitment and freedom.  Don’t forget that Jupiter in Libra is challenging Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn on issues of fairness in government.  Jupiter in Libra is imploring us to ensure that inequality in government does not continue. And a solar eclipse in Leo pertains to our leaders, so this is absolutely challenging our concepts of leadership in this country.

Cardinal energy is definitely highlighted during this solar eclipse, courtesy of a Grand Cardinal Cross involving Uranus and Eris in 28 degrees of Aries opposing Jupiter in 20 degrees of Libra and squaring Venus and Ceres in Cancer, which are also opposing Pluto in Capricorn.  The bottom line with this lineup is that we want change NOW.  Cardinal energy is known for its initiating quality and is very much the self-starter.
Retrograde Mercury in Virgo is not standing idly by during this eclipse, either.  It is forming an opposition to retrograde Neptune in Pisces.  With these two mutable planets retrograde during a solar eclipse, beware of “fake news” and don’t take everything you hear at face value.  If you are facing any major decisions in your life, try to put them on hold for a while because revisions may be necessary.

The solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo on August 21, 2017 may be triggering some issues or bringing some unfinished business from the lunar eclipse on February 10, 2017 up for review.  For me, that eclipse was conjunct my Pluto in Leo in my 11th house and this eclipse will also conjunct my Pluto.  That will be the case for many of my generation.  But when I think back to February 2017, I remember that was when I began practicing Reiki in a second office.  It may be time for me to take my practice to a new level.  I think it’s a wise move for all of us to reflect upon what was happening to us back in February because wherever this eclipse hits your chart, it will represent a fresh start and a reset for that area of your life.

If you are curious as to how these astrological changes are impacting you or seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. An astrological reading can provide valuable insight and tools.  If you are not quite ready for a full blown natal interpretation or a solar return forecast, I also offer a basic astrological reading that will offer insight into your astrological DNA and the major themes in your life by delving into any pressing issues, one question astrological readings and composite couple readings that offer insight into the purpose of a relationship. And I offer shorter transit readings for three and six months. If you purchase a three or six month transit reading, I will .even take a peek at the August 2017 eclipses. The August eclipses promise to be heavy hitters because they will occur in the signs of nodes, Leo and Aquarius.

Mercury Retrogrades in Between Eclipses

Change is coming our way, as the recent lunar eclipse in Aquarius on August 7th demonstrated. It literally could have manifested as a two-edged sword for many people, inspiring me to tweet on that day:

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely trying to embrace the concept of change being productive and good, and working on eliminating the fairly common fear of change that most of us harbor. So on the following day I tweeted:
It could be that the eclipse in my 4th house forced me to reexamine some old beliefs that were no longer serving me and is helping me to welcome change because when you are in the thick of eclipse season, you simply can’t avoid it.  Yes, it was conjunct my Mars, but I am proud to report that I didn’t explode at anyone, no one close to me died, and there was no visible damage in my home.

But the week between eclipses is always an awkward time as we tend to feel like we are teetering on the edge waiting for the next shoe to drop.  A lunar eclipse tends to be more emotional on a personal level with some sense of closure while a solar eclipse takes it to a more public level with the sense that sweeping changes and new beginnings are possible.

And adding to the cliff-hanging vibe of the week between eclipses, we have Mercury stationing retrograde in 11 degrees of Virgo on August 12, 2017.  It will station direct on September 5, 2017 in 28 degrees of Leo, which is the exact degree of the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. Somehow I don’t think this is an astrological coincidence; it simply seems to reinforce the theme that this American Eclipse, as it is being called, will bring major changes and a very active news cycle.  But for those of us who believe in the concept of Mercury Retrograde’s shadow, we began to feel the effects on July 25th and we won’t be entirely free from its grasp until September 20, 2017.  That is the day when Mercury clears the shadow of its retrograde station in 11 degrees of Virgo.

When Mercury stations retrograde, it will be opposing retrograde Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces. It is common knowledge and a good rule of thumb to follow that one should avoid making important decisions and plans, purchasing electronic devices or cars, signing contracts or accepting a new job while Mercury is retrograde. When retrograde Mercury is opposing retrograde Neptune and they are both in mutable signs, the potential for distrust, fear, deception and suspicion in relationships is amplified.  It can be difficult to discern what is real and what is a literal smokescreen of deception with this aspect. But Mercury in Virgo, one of its home signs, does make it easier to review and analyze during this particular Mercury retrograde if that is any comfort.

Venus in Cancer is actually making some pretty interesting aspects these days which will definitely make this Mercury Retrograde quite memorable.  On August 12th before Mercury stations retrograde, it forms a trine with Neptune in Pisces.  This can provide some much needed compassion and empathy if we are mindful not to over idealize our partners.  On August 15, 2017, Venus in Cancer forms an opposition to Pluto in Capricorn, which can feature an inability to compromise, taking a heavy toll on relationships, finances and values.  And on August 17, 2017, Venus in 19 degrees of Cancer will square Jupiter in 19 degrees of Libra.  Even though this is a square aspect, we may be able to enjoy it because Jupiter will inflate our sense of optimism.  We could really wind up partying a bit too much.  Venus will be entering my 10th house that day conjunct my midheaven, so I am looking forward to it.

If you are curious as to how these astrological changes are impacting you or seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. August Kicks off Eclipse Season with a Complicated Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius

August is here and so is the long-awaited countdown to eclipse season.  August began with the moon moving into Sagittarius and forming a challenging aspect with Venus in Cancer, inspiring me to tweet:
Eclipse season kicks off on August 7, 2017 with a lunar eclipse in 15 degrees of Aquarius.  Lunar eclipses are renowned for feeling like full moons on steroids and their effects can be felt for up to six weeks before and after the actual date. So many of you may already being feeling the effects of this upcoming eclipse.  They also bring heightened emotions and require adjustments, so I find it quite ironic that August began with a quincunx or inconjunct aspect from the moon to Venus.  Inconjuncts tend to have an annoying vibe that demands adjustment, and this really sets the stage for this first eclipse in August.

Lunar eclipses are also a time of full exposure and closure of something significant in your life.  A lunar eclipse in the sign of Aquarius has a strong theme of friendships and since this is a south node lunar eclipse, we may find ourselves letting go of or at least reviewing some friendships from our past that are no longer relevant.  The south node of the moon does pertain to the past.  Eclipses also bring sudden changes, and an eclipse in the sign of Aquarius, ruled by the planet Uranus, emphasizes this theme even further.  Aquarius is also known for its qualities of idealism, the potential for an alternative reality, intellectual prowess (I can still remember my astrology teacher describing Aquarius as the most intellectual of the air signs) and its ability for emotional detachment.  But it is entirely possible that this eclipse will require us to let go of some of that Aquarian detachment and operate on a more heart-centered level, which is what Leo rules.  And the north node, representing our soul’s destiny, is in Leo right now, so we should be moving in that direction.

The north node in 24 degrees of Leo is also involved in a Grand Fire Trine with Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries and Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius on August 7th.  This aspect will be a major driving force on the day of the eclipse.  Grand fire trines can be very inspiring, which is a very positive influence.  This eclipse also features the sun and Mars conjunct in 15 degrees of Leo and trine Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius.  Striving for success is another component of this eclipse.  With Uranus being such a heavy hitter in this eclipse, we need to be prepared to act quickly.  It can literally be a time when we need to strike quickly while the iron is hot, so to speak.

Further complicating this lunar eclipse is the influence of the third and final square of Jupiter in Libra to Pluto in Capricorn in 17 degrees on August 4th.  Jupiter squaring Pluto tends to generate power struggles over fairness in relationships.  But Jupiter is favorably trining that full moon in Aquarius, which increases the chance of success, wealth and happiness if accompanied by a more ethical approach.  Jupiter in Libra is also sextiling the Leo sun, which strengthens the likelihood of success.  But that Aquarius moon is also opposing Mars in Leo, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself feeling impatient if success doesn’t seem to happen on your timetable.  And try not to act in a ruthless manner, in spite of how tempting that may feel.

What else is contributing to the complicated vibe of this eclipse?  Mercury in 10 degrees of Virgo is opposing Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces, so we may just want to escape reality.  Don’t forget that Mercury is getting ready to station retrograde in 11 degrees of Virgo on August 12, 2017.  It will be joining the astrological retrograde party of Neptune and Chiron in Pisces, Uranus in Aries, Saturn in Sagittarius and Pluto in Capricorn.  Do you understand now why I said this eclipse is complicated?

And for good measure, we have another astrological configuration called a Yod activated on the lunar eclipse of August 7, 2017.  A yod is a rare astrological aspect sometime referred to as the Finger of God or Fate that features two planets sextiling each other but inconjunct a third planet.  The sextiles provide easy, flowing energy but the inconjunct to the third planet creates tension that must be released. It involves Neptune in 15 degrees of Pisces sextiling Pluto in 17 degrees Capricorn while both are inconjunct the sun in 15 degrees of Leo.  As someone who has a yod in my natal chart, I can tell you first hand that it is one challenging aspect but it does hold the potential for great spiritual evolution and increased awareness.  This particular yod brings the potential for tremendous healing and increased sensitivity if we release the tension in a constructive manner.  The bottom line with this lunar eclipse is that we need to release something in our lives but it can be ultimately a very positive experience if we trust the process and make room for a more positive reality.

This lunar eclipse is extremely personal for me, as it conjuncts my natal Mars in the 4th house.  I am already feeling some longstanding anger and anxiety issues resurfacing and I am sure that they will intensify as a result of this eclipse.  But I am also trying to have more faith in how this eclipse plays out for me because it also trines my Gemini moon and Libra ascendant, setting off my natal grand air trine.  And Jupiter in Libra is setting it off too, so I really need to develop that faith in my higher power that I am always urging my clients to access.
