Mars and Venus Change Signs

Mars entered the sign of Sagittarius on August 2, 2016, the same day as the New Moon in Leo.  On that day I tweeted:

“Mars enters Sagittarius today renewing our energy & providing a green light to move forward with courage and inspiration.”

Mars was previously in Sagittarius from March 5 through May 27, 2016 but it moved back into Scorpio after a grueling Mars retrograde that featured themes of purging, clearing and healing. Fellow astrologer Lisa Zimmerman described its theme as Letting the Past Go and I wholeheartedly concur. Mars may be a co-ruler of Scorpio, but it has a very intense vibe in the sign of Scorpio, which is not a sign for lightweights, as astrologer Dietrech Pessin frequently says.  Mars was previously in Scorpio from January 4^th through early March.  The Mars retrograde was a period of feeling stuck and now that Mars is direct in Sagittarius we can literally have a do-over for projects that got stalled last spring.

Mars in Sagittarius has a much happier, lighter, free-spirited and more optimistic vibe.  It is fun-loving, courageous and inspiring. lt is a very positive, auspicious omen that it reentered Sagittarius on the New Moon in Leo, which pertains to creativity and self-expression.  The first three weeks in August are prime time for taking some kind of action towards creating something new in our lives.  Why do I say the first three weeks in August?  Well, folks, that is because Mars in Sagittarius will conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius on August 24^th.  This conjunction is a difficult, challenging aspect that will feel like you are driving full speed with your foot on the brake.  In other words, we will definitely experience some form of discouragement and delay in forward movement.  So make hay while that Leo sun is still shining and Mars has a lighter, more carefree vibe.  By August 24^th the sun will be in Leo and on August 30^th Mercury will retrograde in Virgo.  Enough said. With Mercury retrograde until September 22^nd, our best course of action is to tweak any changes that we implemented during the first three weeks in August.  At least Mercury in Virgo will provide a much needed analytical resource for that tweaking.

Venus has been in playful, fun-loving Leo since July 13, 2016, but on August 5^th it enters the sign of Virgo, where it will reside until August 29^th. I realize that many are dismayed by this placement, since Venus is considered to be in its fall in the sign of Virgo.  Venus in Virgo wants to serve and improve and it may demonstrate its love by criticizing.  Nagging is a sign that someone with Venus in Virgo cares, if that is any consolation. There might be an increased focus on physical flaws, but it can also be a time to develop a little self-love. Venus in Virgo can be an optimal time to focus on new health and exercise regimes. While Venus in Virgo is not as light-hearted as Venus in Leo, it still can be a very alluring Venus placement. Eleanor Roosevelt had Venus in Virgo emphasizing the theme of service, but Brigitte Bardot, Julia Roberts, Robert Redford and Catherine Zeta Jones also have Venus in Virgo. 

Mars is in a lighter sign in Sagittarius and Venus is getting more serious in Virgo.  On August 6, 2016 Mars and Venus will form a very challenging aspect by squaring each other. This could play out in some relationship difficulties accompanied by competitive feelings.  Or some lucky souls could experience passion and sparks flying with new encounters.  On August 15, 2016, Venus in Virgo will conjunct the north node in Virgo and this is a very good thing because it helps us align with our soul’s mission.  If you are single and meet someone new around August 15^th, it could be a very profound, life-altering relationship.

Still Under the Influence of Virgo and Pisces Post Full Moon

In typical Neptunian fashion, we are still under the influence of the full moon in Virgo that occurred on February 22, 2016.  The Sun is still in Pisces and we continue to feel the effects of the Virgo/Pisces astrological weather trends.

Jupiter remains retrograde in Virgo and is currently conjunct the north node in Virgo, which automatically places it in direct opposition to the south node in Pisces.  Jupiter, which loves to expand and grow, is literally pushing us forward on our soul’s destined path.  But in order to move forward, we need to shed some karmic baggage. The baggage that needs to be released is symbolized by the south node in Pisces. So we have Jupiter and the north node in Virgo opposing the south node in Pisces and let’s not forget Chiron in Pisces.  Chiron is definitely a heavy hitter in this planetary lineup.  Chiron, aka the Wounded Healer, is featuring prominently because it is forcing our hand when it comes to healing old wounds.  Jupiter and the north node in Virgo have a strong healing theme. With Chiron currently in 20 degrees of Pisces, it is smack dab in the middle of the action with the nodes of the moon and Jupiter.  On March 10, 2016 the Sun in Pisces will catch up to the south node and Chiron while opposing both Jupiter and the north node in Virgo.  And this follows on the heels of a powerful solar eclipse in 18 degrees of Pisces on March 8, 2016.

But first we get another taste of that elusive Neptunian energy on February 28^th.  We all know that Neptune rules Pisces, right?  On February 28, 2016, the Sun and Neptune will be conjunct in 9 degrees of Pisces. How will this aspect play out?  Well, at its highest level, it could stimulate spirituality, healing and the arts.  But it could also manifest in a veil of escapism, deception, and overlooking the obvious.  The 28^th of February falls on a Sunday, which could lead many people to just engage in some major self-indulgence or escapist venues that characterize the theme of a lazy Sunday.  Personally, I think that is another Neptunian myth, because most people are utilizing Virgo energy on Sundays by doing errands and chores, but we all have the inherent inclination to want our Sundays to be a day of rest.

The Sun/Neptune conjunction in 9 degrees of Pisces falls in my 5^th house of romance, children and creativity, which I find encouraging.  It also trines my south node of the moon in Cancer and Saturn in Scorpio, so there is potential for enjoying the arts and maybe even doing some spiritual work that holds potential for healing myself and others. But it also squares my Gemini moon, so there could be some emotional surprises or challenges that come to light on that day.  Or not come to light if someone tries to place me on the receiving end of some deception. It should be an interesting day no matter how it plays out.

Full Moon in Leo May Reveal Dramatic Truths

The first full moon of 2016 will be roaring into consciousness on January 23^rd in 4 degrees of Leo.  Leo is the sign that rules the heart, and this full moon promises to be more emotional than usual due to all of the recent planetary activity involving Uranus, Pluto, Mercury, Mars and Neptune.   The January full moon is frequently referred to as the Wolf Moon, but some Native American tribes called it the Snow Moon.  I tend to agree with the Snow Moon moniker this year.  The east coast is expecting a snowstorm on the day of the full moon, which could really amp up the intensity of the storm due to the high tides, making it the first big storm of the winter season.

Astrologer Martin Schulman described the Snow Moon as “Ruling from the heart serves the highest good.”  Martin Schulman has written several books on karmic astrology and I was particularly inspired by two of them: Karmic Relationships and Karmic Astrology: Retrogrades and Reincarnation.

Creativity can soar with a full moon in Leo as we seek to shine and strut our stuff, but so can drama and emotion.  We may really need to rely on the detached quality of that Aquarius sun to get us through this full moon.  Remember to breathe! The higher vibration of a full moon is the desire to share with humanity which is what I believe Martin Schulman was describing. 

This past week’s planetary build up has been intense setting the stage for this powerful new moon.  On January 20^th Mercury in Capricorn squared Uranus in Aries, prompting me to tweet:

“Mercury in Capricorn squaring Uranus in Aries today can bring some unexpected communications in a strange way due to #MercuryRetrograde.”

On January 22^nd, Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn.  This is bound to bring hidden or suppressed issues to light and important messages may surface. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Mars is in Scorpio, but it is still trining Neptune in Pisces.  There is no escape from the Pluto energy but having Mars trine Neptune can give us somewhat of a spiritual edge.  Two weeks ago I described the new moon in Capricorn as being derailed by Uranus and Pluto and the full moon in Leo is also taking a hit from these two powerhouse planets. We are by no means out of the woods yet when it comes to the effects of those seven Uranus Pluto squares from 2012-2015!  But it is further complicated by retrograde Mercury which is doing due diligence in terms of delivering messages that have been hidden and unheard for too long.  This retrograde Mercury is definitely helping us to get to the bottom of things before it stations direct in 15 degrees of Capricorn on January 25^th.

Venus enters Capricorn on the 23^rd, about five hours before the full moon.  The light hearted party days of Venus in Sagittarius are over and we are facing a much more somber tone with Venus in Capricorn.  So don’t expect Venus to cut us any breaks on this full moon.

Another beacon of light with this full moon in Leo is that Jupiter will be conjunct the north node in Virgo on January 23^rd.  So we are being propelled forward in our destiny which may very well involve a healing path.

Many of us were still processing the recent deaths of David Bowie and Alan Rickman when we heard that Glenn Frey of the Eagles died on January 18^th.  It seemed to fulfill the old saying that death comes in threes.  At the time of his death, transiting Saturn in Sagittarius was conjunct his ascendant and Mars in Sagittarius in his first house.  Saturn on one’s ascendant and Mars can bring health challenges while trying to usher in a new cycle of being.  Ironically Glenn Frey released a solo song in 1982 called “I’ve Been Born Again.” The rebirth for him was quite literal on January 18^th with this Saturn transit and with transiting Mars in Scorpio squaring his progressed Mars in Aquarius.  But his musical genius will long be remembered, as evidenced by his Venus Neptune conjunction in Libra and the body of creative work he created that fulfilled his 5th house north node in Taurus.
For those of you who are morning people and are sky watchers, check out the visibility of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter about an hour before sunrise for the next month.  I have no idea what astrological significance this has, but it does seem to be generating quite a lot of buzz.  Enjoy the view if you are so inclined!
