Mercury Enters Leo, Mars Moves into Cancer and Eclipse Season Kicks Off with a Solar Eclipse in Leo

The break is over and August is definitely heating up.  Mercury zips into Leo on August 9 for a brief stay until August 25 after having been in Cancer since June 1.  How can we forget that absolutely lovely Mercury retrograde from June 29 through July 23?  The good news is that Mercury cleared its retrograde shadow on August 26 in 26 degrees of Cancer.

What can we expect with Mercury in Leo?  Communication is about to get bolder and dramatic.  Make way for warmth, passion and creativity because Mercury is in a fire sign now.  Our thinking will be more confident and decisive. We don't hold back and are inclined to speak our minds freely when Mercury is in Leo.  It's time to take the lead because Leo is a born leader, the sign of royalty.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Leo is a tendency not to listen as carefully as we should or to let our ego run wild.  Just saying...

Next up is Mars moving into Cancer on August 11 until September 27.  Mars is not the most comfortable in the cardinal water sign of Cancer, since it is exalted in Capricorn.  It has been described as being in the sign of its fall. The planet of action is more protective and defensive in Cancer.  We can be driven by our moods, so watch out for passive-aggressive behavior.  Suppressed frustration can be very real during Mar's transit in Cancer.  Emotional stress can literally be physically be draining under Mars in Cancer, so take good care.

The stage is set for the main event on August 12: a total Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Leo.  If you have any planets around 20 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio you will feel this eclipse big time.  This one is squaring my Sun in Scorpio.

This is a South Node eclipse, so we have a strong theme of letting go of an identity.  An eclipse in Leo also has a heart connection. Leo rules the heart.  Other themes with this eclipse involve releasing pride and the need for validation because it is a time to reinvent ourselves by growing into self-awareness and concern for humanity.  The Nodes of the Moon recently moved into Aquarius (North Node) and Leo (South Node) on July 26, so this is the first eclipse of this new nodal cycle.  The North Node represents what we are striving for and requires effort to stretch out of our comfort zone while the South Node asks us to let go of the patterns that are no longer serving our greatest good but are are literally the path of least resistance.

We had a Total Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo on August 21, 2017 that was known as the Great American Eclipse because it was visible in the United States.  The big difference was that it was a North Node eclipse. We also had the same President of the United States back in 2017: Donald Trump.  I remember it well because I was on a ferry to Long Island on that day and did witness it.  Five months later my husband became ill and was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018.  It has progressed rapidly in the past year to the point that he is now under hospice care.

What other aspects are we dealing with on this eclipse day?  Mars in Cancer is squaring Venus in 5 degrees of Libra, which is very initiating energy.  We will be seeking fairness in relationships and ready to take action.  Neptune in Aries is also squaring Mars in Cancer, which can provide a reality check on our goals and inspire us to take more spiritual action.  Jupiter in Leo is trining Neptune in Aries, fostering more spiritual growth and compassion.  We also have a Grand Trine in Air involving Venus in Libra, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius which can lead to new social contacts and means of communication for change.  Mercury and Jupiter are conjunct in Leo on the eclipse, so we have the opportunity to rewrite our mental patterns and create new beliefs.

Another manifestation of this Solar Eclipse in Leo is that people in power could be ousted. The astrological community has seen quite a backlash against astrologer Steven Forrest this past week as a result of his use of a racial slur on the Lila astrology podcast discussing shadow work. This upcoming Solar Eclipse is in his 10th house squaring his Ascendant in Scorpio. The NCGR as a result has decided to remove Steven Forrest as an NCGR Advisor and Participating Affiliate.  He will not be participating in the UAC Conference in September.  I just want to emphasize that the effects of astrology are real and you can't make this stuff up!

I have read many of Steven Forrest's books and even met him many years ago at an NCGR conference. I learned quite a bit from his work and hope that this incident does not destroy his legacy but the bottom line is that our words do have consequences.  Eclipses have a way of bringing things to light.

Since eclipses come in pairs, we have another one on August 28, a Lunar Eclipse in 4 degrees of Pisces.  I will cover that one later, but would just like to state that while we are all probably feeling the need for change, it is probably best to wait until after the dust settles from the eclipses to act.  That is what September is all about...

I am no longer posting on X (formerly known as Twitter), but I am posting daily on Blue Sky Social as danceofphoenix@danceofphoenix.bsky.social. There is an astrological community on there called AstroSphere. The link is:

If you are curious as to how all of this planetary action is affecting you, please consider getting an astrological consultation with me. I offer consultations on Zoom too. Check out my menu of services at:

I am also offering private astrology lessons by telephone or video, such as FaceTime or Zoom.  Please feel free to contact me at lindasim54@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about astrology.

I have been doing more work with tarot readings, which I love, so I decided to create a combination reading which offers the option of a 30-minute astrology consultation with a one-question tarot reading for only $50. There is something for everyone and my menu of services can accommodate any budget. I also have a one-question tarot reading for only $15.

My site also offers the opportunity to provide a donation in the amount of your choice to demonstrate your support for my blog and daily astrological insights on Blue Sky Social at:

https://phoenixscorpio.blogspot.com/p/services-offered.html

A contribution in any amount is deeply appreciated as gratitude is a daily part of my spiritual practice. The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205. The cost for distance Reiki sessions is based on a sliding scale of $30 -$50. For your convenience, I accept Venmo and Zelle for payment. Zelle payments can be sent using my telephone number 617-304-2205. I have also written an article about distance Reiki, which is available at:

A Solar Eclipse in Leo Caps Off Eclipse Season

The final eclipse of 2018 may be a partial solar eclipse, unlike the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, which was also known as the Great American Eclipse, but it will by no means be inconsequential because it also a Supermoon. It will occur on August 11, 2018 in 18 degrees of Leo at 5:58 a.m.

Leo is the sign that rules the heart and love. This eclipse will feature themes of love, creative self-actualization and making choices from our heart.  It will be a time to explore the path of your heart’s desires. There is a new state of awareness coming and it is futile to resist it.  This eclipse is also a repeat of a solar eclipse that occurred on August 11, 1999 in 18 degrees of Leo.  If you are old enough to remember it, I encourage you to reflect on your soul’s growth in the past 19 years because there could definitely be some themes repeated or even closure of a cycle in your life.  I can tell you that this eclipse will bring sudden, radical shifts as it can result in a collapse of existing structures and the rebuilding will have far reaching effects.  And the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel it the most.

The astrological panorama for this solar eclipse is intense, to say the least.  For starters, it features seven (7) retrograde planets: Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Chiron, Pluto and Uranus, which stationed retrograde on August 7, 2018, inspiring me to tweet:
Eclipses are always considered to be wild card energy, but this one is particularly Uranian because it occurs only four days after Uranus stationed retrograde.  Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus is also squaring the north node in 5 degrees of Leo and the south node in 5 degrees of Aquarius.  The bottom line with Uranus squaring the nodal axis on the day of a solar eclipse of this magnitude is that it will have a major impact on our collective future destiny.  Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus is also trining Saturn in 3 degrees of Capricorn.  While trines are usually considered to be favorable aspects, the diametrically opposed natures of these two planets are not exactly compatible. They are literally a clash of viewpoints. Uranus craves freedom and Saturn is all about preserving the status quo.  This can play out in a real stop and go type of vibe in which it feels difficult to make any progress.  But the saving grace of this aspect is that if we exercise patience and diligence (Saturn) we can achieve the change we desire (Uranus).

The solar eclipse in 18 degrees of Leo also squares Jupiter in 14 degrees of Scorpio.  Since Jupiter loves to amplify anything it touches, count on it to magnify our feelings and we may be prone to overreacting, especially with the sun and moon in Leo, a sign that loves drama.

We do have one especially nice aspect featured in this solar eclipse: the ongoing trine of Jupiter in Scorpio to Neptune in Pisces.  This is a marvelous aspect for instilling compassion and faith.  Meditation, reflection and soul searching are favored with this aspect.

There is an extremely fated quality about this eclipse because it features a yod involving Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn and Neptune in 15 degrees of Pisces.  Pluto and Neptune are forming a supportive sextile with each other but both are forming an irritating inconjunct with the sun and moon in Leo. Pluto’s role in this eclipse contains themes of transformation and loss while recognizing our fears and adjusting our behavior to adapt to the ever changing and challenging circumstances that we face.  And there will be issues of authority with Pluto involved.  We will have lessons to learn regarding personal will and power in terms of letting go of our ego as learn to rule with Neptune’s compassion while utilizing Pluto’s insight to incorporate our spiritual values into our use of personal power.  There is a very mystical feeling with this yod.  It is also a fabulous opportunity to change our emotional patterns to support the changes and move forward.

Don’t forget to set a new intention on the day of the solar eclipse because it is literally a new moon, even if I tend to refer to solar eclipses as new moons on steroids.  And the same holds true for lunar eclipses; they are like full moons on steroids.  Take a look at what house this eclipse falls in your chart and set a new intention through prayer, meditation, affirmations or whatever ritual you feel comfortable with.  This eclipse falls in my 11th house, so I should be setting new intentions for my goals and social networks.   It is also squaring my natal sun and Venus in Scorpio and opposing my natal Mars in Aquarius.  So I am not kidding when I say that this solar eclipse will affect fixed signs.

If you are curious as to how all of the planetary changes, including this summer’s eclipses, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn retrograde, Mars retrograde in Aquarius, Jupiter in Scorpio, Chiron in Aries and Uranus in Taurus will be affecting you in 2018, please consider getting an astrological reading.  A transit reading might be just what you need right now to make the most of Jupiter in Scorpio.  Jupiter transits are all about taking advantage of opportunities and if you snooze you lose with Jupiter.  You have to be aware and strike while the iron is hot. The Services Offered page of my site describes the menu of services that I offer. I even offer the option of tarot readings. There is something for everyone.

My site also offers the opportunity to provide a donation in the amount of your choice to demonstrate your support for my blog and daily astrological insights on Twitter at:

A contribution in any amount is deeply appreciated as gratitude is a daily part of my spiritual practice.

I am also offering my Mars Retrograde Special reading which is another tool for dealing with the frustrations of the Mars retrograde transit, which began on June 26, 2018.

Here is the link for my Mars Retrograde Special:

Recently I undertook an intensive life purpose coaching training program and became certified as a Life Purpose Coach.  It was an intense, eye-opening experience that changed my life as it caused me to reflect on the story of my life.  But I left it with feelings of hope and light for the future that I want to share with others.  To that end, I am now offering Life Purpose Coaching to my menu of services.  You can read more about it at:

As an astrologer, I have decided to include an interpretation of the north node by sign. If you are feeling stuck and need some help in getting from Point A to Point B in your quest for making positive changes in your life, please email me at lindasim54@gmail.com to schedule a complementary telephone consultation to discover if you are a good fit for this program.  I look forward to hearing from you.

If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off and can also be described as a spa for the soul to boot!   Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

For more information on my Reiki services, please see this page on my site:

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I am also offering Reiki treatments in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline on Sunday afternoons.

But the big news is that I have created and launched a new website devoted exclusively to my Reiki practice. Please feel free to check it out at:

I was also featured in the July 3, 2017 edition of Boston Voyager, an online publication that runs a section called Inspiring Stories about local entrepreneurs on its home page.  The Scorpio moon was trining the Cancer sun and Neptune in Pisces on that day, so my story certainly debuted under fitting aspects.  Please feel free to check it out:

I have also revised my package deals and I am now offering two options for package deals: Silver and a Tarot special for my tarot clients. Please check it out at:

The Great American Solar Eclipse in Leo

Three days and counting until the BIG DAY is here!  That’s right folks, the much awaited solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo (rounded up from 28 degrees and 53 seconds)  will occur at 2:30 p.m. on the east coast of the United States.  Those of us on the east coast won’t be able to view it, but all of us will feel its effects, if we haven’t started to already.

It is being called the Great American Eclipse because its shadow, the shadow of the moon, crosses the United States from the northwest to the southeast and touches no other nation. It has been ninety nine years since the last total solar eclipse followed this trajectory.  That one occurred on June 8, 1918 in 17 degrees of Gemini. The world was undergoing massive changes back then too—World War I was ending and the Russian Communist Party was formed after the overthrow of the Czar,

I believe that this eclipse is important because it is propelling us forward on a collective destiny and that there are great lessons to be learned from our history, especially if we don’t care to repeat past mistakes.  The events of the past week, including the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia and President Trump’s bizarre reaction to that rally in his press conference on August 15th, bear that out, On August 15, 2017, I tweeted:
I am no stranger to the intensity of challenging Venus Pluto aspects, being the proud owner of a retrograde Venus in Scorpio square Pluto in Leo aspect.  The opposition of Venus to Pluto triggers the same issues of power struggles, obsession and compulsive behavior

There is also the fact that the last solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo occurred on August 22, 1998 and precipitated the impeachment proceedings of President Bill Clinton which began in December 1998.  Don’t forget that the effects of a solar eclipse can be felt for up to one year after the actual date of the eclipse.

But now on to the astrology of the day. One of the major reasons this eclipse is so important to our future is the degree of the eclipse.  Twenty nine degrees of any sign is known as the “critical” degree because there is a sense of urgency in getting the lessons of that sign right.  It can literally be likened to the expression “last call” and this country is certainly in a time of crisis now.  When a planet is in 29 degrees of Leo (and we have both the sun and moon here), we have the full gamut of Leo themes playing out: courage, leadership, creativity, generosity, childlike joy or tyranny, arrogance, pride, self-centeredness, childish tantrums and melodrama. If we want to get it right with this Leo solar eclipse, the message is to let go of the ego and arrogance and live from the heart.  Is it a coincidence that this eclipse conjuncts President Trump’s Mars and Leo ascendant while squaring his Taurus midheaven?

I also want to emphasize that we have a beautiful Grand Fire Trine in place on the day of the solar eclipse which can be very beneficial. Both the sun and moon in Leo are trining Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius and Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  The trine to Uranus can deliver a jolt of inspiration, a sudden event or shock.  But Saturn’s presence can help stabilize and lay a foundation for the changes coming down the pike. Mars and the north node of the moon are also in Leo, adding to the mix and both are sextiling Jupiter in Libra, which is providing lots of enthusiasm and drive for the changes that we seek to implement. A solar eclipse conjunct the north node is indisputably propelling us forward on our collective destiny and Jupiter may well be providing us with opportunities.  Anyone who has planets between 21 and 28 degrees of the fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius will really feel this energy strongly.

Another complicating feature of this eclipse is Venus in Cancer, which is no astrological lightweight these days.  Just look at what happened a few days ago when it opposed Pluto in Capricorn.  Venus in 23 degrees of Cancer is squaring Jupiter in 20 degrees of Libra and Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  This configuration is all about relationship testing, issues of commitment and freedom.  Don’t forget that Jupiter in Libra is challenging Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn on issues of fairness in government.  Jupiter in Libra is imploring us to ensure that inequality in government does not continue. And a solar eclipse in Leo pertains to our leaders, so this is absolutely challenging our concepts of leadership in this country.

Cardinal energy is definitely highlighted during this solar eclipse, courtesy of a Grand Cardinal Cross involving Uranus and Eris in 28 degrees of Aries opposing Jupiter in 20 degrees of Libra and squaring Venus and Ceres in Cancer, which are also opposing Pluto in Capricorn.  The bottom line with this lineup is that we want change NOW.  Cardinal energy is known for its initiating quality and is very much the self-starter.
Retrograde Mercury in Virgo is not standing idly by during this eclipse, either.  It is forming an opposition to retrograde Neptune in Pisces.  With these two mutable planets retrograde during a solar eclipse, beware of “fake news” and don’t take everything you hear at face value.  If you are facing any major decisions in your life, try to put them on hold for a while because revisions may be necessary.

The solar eclipse in 29 degrees of Leo on August 21, 2017 may be triggering some issues or bringing some unfinished business from the lunar eclipse on February 10, 2017 up for review.  For me, that eclipse was conjunct my Pluto in Leo in my 11th house and this eclipse will also conjunct my Pluto.  That will be the case for many of my generation.  But when I think back to February 2017, I remember that was when I began practicing Reiki in a second office.  It may be time for me to take my practice to a new level.  I think it’s a wise move for all of us to reflect upon what was happening to us back in February because wherever this eclipse hits your chart, it will represent a fresh start and a reset for that area of your life.

If you are curious as to how these astrological changes are impacting you or seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. An astrological reading can provide valuable insight and tools.  If you are not quite ready for a full blown natal interpretation or a solar return forecast, I also offer a basic astrological reading that will offer insight into your astrological DNA and the major themes in your life by delving into any pressing issues, one question astrological readings and composite couple readings that offer insight into the purpose of a relationship. And I offer shorter transit readings for three and six months. If you purchase a three or six month transit reading, I will .even take a peek at the August 2017 eclipses. The August eclipses promise to be heavy hitters because they will occur in the signs of nodes, Leo and Aquarius.
