The Month of May Heats Up as the Sun Conjuncts Uranus in Gemini, Mars Squares Pluto and Venus Squares Saturn

 

I don't know about you, but I am still in recovery mode from the New Moon in Taurus on May 16 and the Gemini energy that began with Mercury entering its home sign on May 17 and the Sun on May 20. And I have a natal Moon in Gemini, which should make it easier for me to deal with, but it has been a whirlwind. And speaking of heat, in the Boston area, we have had two 90 degree days this week.

On May 22, the Sun and Uranus are conjunct in 1 degree of Gemini. This can bring sudden a-ha moments of insight, rebellious acts of independence and electrical intellectual energy.  Be prepared for rapid changes in thinking and communication.  It can be a day of major breakthroughs.  A feeling of restlessness and nervous energy will prevail.  We are craving freedom and serious change is on the horizon.  These two planets haven't been conjunct in Gemini since the 1940's because Uranus has an 84-year cycle.  Uranus was last in Gemini from 1941-1948.  The Sun and Uranus are conjunct once every year, but this conjunction is momentous. Uranus was in Gemini from 1859 to 1866 and 1774 to 1782.  Are you seeing a pattern here?  The United States entered World War II in 1941, had its own Civil War in the 1860's and we had the American Revolutionary War in 1775.  Uranus is also squaring the North Node in Pisces and South Node in Virgo at this time.  Events can suddenly occur that make us feel torn between the past and the future.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Venus in Cancer is also squaring Neptune in 3 degrees of Aries on May 22.  This aspect can cause us to see relationships with rose colored glasses and experience boundary issues. Since Venus is also associated with money, we might be inclined to overspend on this day.  Just warning you...

On May 26, Mars in Taurus is squaring Pluto in 5 degrees of Aquarius. When these two heavy hitting planets get together, it is never an easy encounter.  There will be an intense desire to gain control over others or situations which can lead to power struggles and confrontations.  It will be very easy to act defensively now as well triggering some downright obsessive behavior.  A more constructive way to channel this energy is to break down old habits that no longer serve us, exercise, make peace with past power struggles and put effort into self-improvement or personal transformation.  Mars in Taurus is transiting my 7th house and Pluto in Aquarius is in my 4th house, so this should be interesting... I tend to think of it as the Roto-Rooter transit for relationships.

On May 28, Venus in Cancer is squaring Saturn in 11 degrees of Aries.  This tends to deliver a harsh reality check in matters pertaining to love and finances. Expect a day of stress in relationships or experiences of financial limitations.  There can be a sense of guardedness and emotional reserve that is not exactly conducive to starting new relationships.  Major purchases are not wise either on this day and it's not the best time to make any beauty changes.  Save the makeover for friendlier astrological weather.  Venus squaring Saturn can help us to set healthier boundaries in relationships and be more practical concerning money though.

An Active Week as Venus Enters Virgo, a Solar Eclipse in Virgo, Mars Enters Scorpio and the Sun Moves into Libra

 

Hang on for a wild ride during the coming week.  As astrologer David Zunker posted on Blue Sky Social, "Here in Eclipse Alley, everything is intensified."  This really sums up the feeling of the entire month.

Let's break it down. On September 19, Venus departs dramatic Leo for the mutable earth sign of Virgo, where it resides until October 13.  Love is going to take on a whole different flavor than when it was in Leo.  We tend to express our affection through service to others with Venus now. Venus in Virgo can also feature more attention to detail in creative work and/or financial planning. Don't forget that Venus is also associated with money.  When Venus is in Virgo, we tend to be more reserved and discriminating in relationships.  Try to engage in some self-care too, because Venus is in a sensual earth sign.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Venus in Virgo is a tendency towards being critical and perfectionist.

On September 21, we have the second New Moon in Virgo in 2025.  The first one occurred on August 23 in 0 degrees of Virgo, but this one is a partial Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo.  That's right, the critical or anaretic degree.  There is a major theme of release with this eclipse because it is near the South Node of the Moon in 18 degrees of Virgo.  It is more karmic and there is a feeling that we are reaping what we have sown.  There could be some major news about health crises during this eclipse. 

This Solar Eclipse is also making major aspects to the outer planets.  For starters, it is opposing Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces.  This entails the themes of structure and surrender.  Saturn is not especially comfortable in Pisces and it is retrograde to boot.  But the Sun and Moon in the last degree of Virgo are calling for some kind of ending to a crisis, perhaps a health issue.  Just be careful not to get caught up in self-deception or escapism during this eclipse.  

The Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo is also forming an opposition to Neptune in 0 degrees of Aries, which heightens the potential for tempting illusions.   And it squares Uranus in 1 degree of Gemini, which only further fuels the wild card vibe with the potential for disruptions in information or communication.

We also have a couple of irritating inconjuncts with this Solar Eclipse.  It inconjuncts Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius, which can require adjustments in power systems.  The Solar Eclipse in 20 degrees of Virgo also inconjuncts Chiron in 26 degrees of Aries.  This is bound to be emotionally uncomfortable as we experience increased sensitivity to old hurts and wounds.  We will need to confront those wounds to adjust and heal them.

There are some positive aspects present during this Solar Eclipse.  Pluto in Aquarius is trining Uranus in Gemini, which is a favorable influence for making the radical changes that are necessary. The Moon in Virgo is also forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 21 degrees of Cancer (where it is exalted), which in my mind is the saving grace aspect of this eclipse because it brings optimism, good fortune and faith in the future.

We all know that eclipses come in pairs and the last one occurred on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces.  This was a North Node eclipse and we might find that the Solar Eclipse in Virgo can activate some new developments that could have started two weeks ago. Anyone with planets or points in the middle degrees of the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius would have felt the effects of this eclipse more acutely.

Eclipses don't just happen on that one day.  The effects can be felt for a good five months.  Many people were saddened this week to hear about the death of Robert Redford on September 16.  I couldn't resist looking at his chart.  The Lunar Eclipse on September 7 in 15 degrees of Pisces was opposing his natal Neptune in 15 degrees of Virgo in his 6th house of health. It also squared his Jupiter in 14 degrees of Sagittarius in his 9th house. When he died, Saturn in 28 degrees of Pisces was conjunct his Ascendant.  And the upcoming Solar Eclipse in 29 degrees of Virgo squares his Midheaven in 29 degrees of Sagittarius, ensuring that his passing would generate big news. As astrologers say, you can't make this stuff up.  Eclipses tell a story and sometimes that story has an ending.

On September 22, Mars, the planet representing drive, action, motivation and desire, enters Scorpio until November 4.  Mars is very strong in Scorpio because it was considered the ruler  of Scorpio until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  It is right at home in this fixed water sign.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we have the tenacity to persevere through difficult challenges and get to the bottom of things.  We have the power to unleash our drive and ambition.  There is no shortage of willpower.  Be prepared for some heavy-duty psychological self-examination.  But be aware that the shadow of Mars in Scorpio is that we can be inclined to seek out revenge, engage in power struggles or find it difficult to forgive. Mars in Scorpio will be squaring Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius on September 24. This will highlight issues of anger, passion and power struggles.  It can also instigate changes in leadership.  Adding to the mix on that day is the fact the Moon enters Scorpio, which will intensify the emotional vibration.

The Sun moves into Libra on September 22.  Our focus shifts to finding balance and harmony in relationships. Reconciliations are possible now because we really don't want to go it alone now. We tend to feel more sociable and since Libra is the cardinal air sign, we could be initiating contact with others.  We also appreciate beauty and the finer things in life, so shopping trips could be on the agenda for some of us.  The shadow side of the Sun in Libra is that we can be indecisive because we see both sides of situations and we can also be passive-aggressive.

Saturn in Pisces Gets Squared by the Sun, Mercury and Venus While Mars Enters Taurus and Squares Pluto in Aquarius

 

We have a lot of Gemini energy these days: on June 6, we had a New Moon in 16 degrees of Gemini that was conjunct Venus in Gemini, conjuncted Mercury and Jupiter in Gemini on June 5 and also squared Saturn in 19 degrees of Pisces. The square to Saturn could have resulted in enormous amounts of frustrations and delays. This is a great deal of nervous and scattered energy.

The squares to Saturn are not done by a long shot. On June 7, Venus in Gemini will be squaring Saturn in Pisces.  This one is bound to cause stress in relationships, delays, feelings of loneliness and depression.  It can make us feel like we have to work really hard on relationships.  Venus squaring Saturn can also manifest as money problems.

The Sun in Gemini is squaring Saturn in Pisces on June 8.  This aspect is associated with tests and challenges while contributing heavily to pessimism and depression. It is truly a test of character and can entail a multitude of responsibilities cropping up.  The Sun represents our life force and ego, so don't be surprised if you experience difficulty or frustration in getting your way or reaching your goals.  It can definitely be an ego-bruising day.

Mercury in Gemini has its own square to Saturn in Pisces on June 12.  Mercury squaring Saturn brings a time of buckling down and doing some hard mental work.  Negative thinking and misunderstandings are likely.  And don't rule out the potential for distance in close relationships.

Mars is on the move too.  On June 9 it moves into the fixed earth sign of Taurus after spending time in the cardinal fire sign of Aries since April 29.  This is a big shift in energy.  Determination and tenacity will be our greatest strength and motivators.  It is a major change from the impatience and impulsiveness that embodies Mars in Aries.  We should be acting more grounded, practically and sensibly.  But we need to be mindful of the shadow side of Mars in Taurus: it can be stubborn, like its symbol, the Bull and can also be quite defensive. When Mars is in Taurus, there can be a tendency to avoid confrontations.  However, it is superb energy for careful planning and step-by-step action.  Mars in Taurus values financial security and we are keen on pursuing our monetary goals.  And Mars in Taurus can also motivate us to enjoy earthly pleasures, so be sure to enjoy life too...

Mars in Taurus is put to the test so to speak on June 11 when it squares Pluto in 1 degree of Aquarius.  This aspect is frequently associated with power struggles and confrontations.  Just be mindful of the desire to gain control of others, as there can be issues with authority figures.  Trust your instincts on this day and try to use it as an opportunity to transform situations.  We are exploring our power access by accessing our inner power and navigating our feelings, drive and motivation.  It can be an intense day, but we can come out on the other side of it in a better place if we use this energy constructively.

Mars and Venus Change Signs While Pluto Stations Direct

 

Brace yourself for a heavy week ahead of next week's Solar Eclipse in Libra.  On October 8, we have two major planetary events.  Mars in Libra forms an exact square with Pluto in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  The last time we had a Mars-Pluto square was on July 1, 2022 when Mars was in Aries and Pluto was in Capricorn.  What can we expect this time? Let's just say that self-control will be missing in action as anger, impulsiveness and compulsive behavior rule the roost.  Mars is considered to be in detriment in Libra, so passive-aggressive actions are very common.  This aspect can trigger lots of conflict to see who get the upper hand.  Mars squaring Pluto can give us courage and willpower but it is accompanied by an intense desire to gain control. And we all know that this frequently leads to power struggles and confrontations. Issues of law and order could be an arena for these conflicts.  Once again, I am right in the line of fire as Mars is conjunct my Neptune and Juno in Libra and squaring my Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer in my 10th house while also squaring my Chiron in Capricorn in y 4th house.  And Pluto in Capricorn is a mere three degrees away from my natal Chiron and opposing that Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer while squaring my Neptune and Juno in Libra in my 1st house. So I am issuing a friendly warning to anyone who has planets in 24-29 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn to be on alert on October 8...

Venus is entering the mutable earth sign of Virgo on October 8 too.  Venus has been in Leo since June 5 due to that lovely Venus retrograde we experienced from July 22 through September 3.  Venus is clearing its retrograde shadow on October 7, in case you are interested. Venus will be in Virgo until November 8, but we need to be mindful of the fact that Venus is considered to be in fall in Virgo because it is exalted in Pisces.  Venus in Virgo is a time to express love through practical means and service to others.  It is definitely not as flashy, dramatic or flamboyant as Venus in Leo.  So we are in for some changes.  Venus in Virgo is an earth sign, though, so we are not exactly going to be ignoring earthy pleasures.  It's just not the best time to find a new love because of Virgo's perfectionist standards.  That is the shadow side of Venus in Virgo: we can be too critical of partners.  That goes for existing partners, as well as potential ones. The bottom line is that we are more reserved and discriminating.  Venus in Virgo can be beneficial for practical financial decisions, though.  Venus in Virgo is also a boon for holistic healing methods, so feel free to try out acupuncture or Reiki.

Pluto in Capricorn is stationing direct on October 10 in 27 degrees of Capricorn after having been retrograde since May 1.  It actually stationed retrograde in 0 degrees of Aquarius, which was when we got a taste of life with Pluto in Aquarius because Pluto briefly entered Aquarius on March 23, 2023.  Pluto will re-enter Aquarius on January 20, 2024 when the Sun enters Aquarius, but it will retrograde in Aquarius on May 2, 2024 in 2 degrees of Aquarius and re-enter Capricorn on September 1, 2024 for its last stint in Capricorn. This means that the 2024 elections in the United States occur while Pluto is in Capricorn. Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19, 2024 until March 8, 2043.  The major theme with Pluto being direct until next May is that we have the chance to practice acceptance of the changes that are being thrust upon us as only Pluto can do.  It has a way of tearing down the structures of our life for rebirth to happen. And, as I have often said, rebirth ain't always pretty...

Venus in Virgo is also opposing Saturn in 1 degree of Pisces on October 10.  This is a real buzz kill aspect, no sugar coating it.  We can expect to experience delays and limitations in love and finances.  It's not the most social vibe, so keep your expectations low on this day.

Mars enters Scorpio on October 12 and stays there until November 24, 2023.  Mars is a very happy camper in the sign of Scorpio and was considered to be the ruling planet of Scorpio (as well as Aries) until Pluto was discovered in 1930.  Mars in Scorpio is passionate, determined and dedicated.  When Mars is in Scorpio, we can be very focused on getting what we want and we are direct about it, unlike Mars in Libra.  We are not afraid to tackle the important issues and are attracted to crisis because it is transformative and emotionally exciting.  We can be obsessively focused, instinctive and tenacious.  Backing down is not in Mars in Scorpio's vocabulary.  Drive and passion are strong with Mars in Scorpio, but stubbornness is part of the package because it is the fixed water sign.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. And get a vaccine. The newest vaccine is available and I encourage you to get it to protect yourself. I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! Mars and Pluto Face Off with a Square and the Sun Enters Scorpio

Scorpio season is about to commence on October 23, but we get a little preview of that Scorpio energy on October 22 when the ruling planets of Scorpio, Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn, form an exact square in 24 degrees of their respective signs. 

What does Mars squaring Pluto feel like?  It is very powerful and aggressive energy that can bring out our anger and desire to gain control over others or situations.  It’s got a very motivational vibe.  Disagreements are bound to crop up, but it does represent an opportunity to release tension and make changes.  It can also manifest as our enemies appearing to be stronger.  The trick to surviving and thriving with this aspect is to NOT try too hard to be in control because that can definitely backfire on us.  We need to be mindful of the fact that change is inevitable but we don’t have to alienate everyone in the process. I know, it’s easier said than done…

On October 23, the Sun enters the fixed water sign of Scorpio.  Whoever coined the phrase “Still waters run deep” must have either been a Scorpio or known one.  I confess that I love this time of year because I am a November Scorpio.  When the Sun is in Scorpio, nothing is superficial or light.  I recently had a personal astrology consultation and my astrologer told me flat out that Scorpios don’t do fluff!  Truer words were never spoken!

The Sun transiting the sign of Scorpio denotes a time to dig up what is buried and bring it to the surface for transformation, which is Scorpio’s credo for living. It’s time to face our fears and demons but we will have the emotional courage and tenacity to do it.  Depth, intimacy and extremes of feeling run rampant while the Sun is in Scorpio. We are headed for a time when we will be feeling provocative, passionate, and strong-willed with a heaping dose of major intensity.  There is definitely a shadow side to Scorpio and it entails jealousy, resentment, vindictiveness and manipulation.  Believe me, you don’t want to get on the bad side of a Scorpio, because those stingers can hurt.  Scorpio is an incredibly loyal friend, but it is also the most dangerous enemy in the world because a Scorpio doesn’t forget or forgive easily.

If this energy sounds too heavy for you to bear, rejoice in the knowledge that the two Greater Benefic Planets (Venus and Jupiter) are joining in a supportive sextile on October 28.  Relief is in sight! Venus in 22 degrees of Sagittarius is forming an exact sextile to Jupiter in 22 degrees of Aquarius; this aspect will ease the tensions that have been building recently and create a party vibe that inspires us to feel happier and share our good feelings with others.  Sagittarius and Aquarius are very social, extroverted signs, so make the most of this feel-good transit.  Don’t be afraid to reach out and get in touch with people.
