Mercury Enters Pisces and a Full Moon in Virgo

 

Mercury is joining the Pisces party on February 23 and will remain in Pisces until March 9.  Our thought processes are about to get more intuitive and less verbal as we turn inwards.  Thinking will be colored by emotions and we could find ourselves being more reactive.  Mercury in Pisces is a time when we are quieter, find it easier to listen and meditate.  Music can take on a greater role in our lives too.  Watch for synchronistic events to occur too.  The downside of Mercury in Pisces is that we can have a tendency to overlook the details.  It marks a major shift in communication from Mercury in Aquarius, which was very outspoken.  Yes, the energy is definitely shifting and we saw a significant change on February 18, when the Sun entered Pisces.  On that day I posted:

On the following day, we have a Full Moon in 5 degrees of Virgo.  The Full Moon will shine a light on health issues with the Sun in Pisces and the Moon in Virgo. Issues pertaining to our digestive and immune systems could be highlighted.  The Moon in Virgo is also opposing Saturn in 9 degrees of Pisces, which could create feelings of depression and loneliness.  It can be hard to share emotions on this day, just warning you.  And the opposition to Saturn can manifest as more restrictions and rules to stymie our freedom.  The Moon is also inconjunct Mars in 8 degrees of Aquarius, which will add to the irritability factor that tends to come out on Full Moons.  Try to get in some exercise to channel that frustration. And the Moon will also be inconjunct Venus in 9 degrees of Aquarius, which can increase our desire for love and fuel more tension.  The bottom line with these inconjunct aspects is to make some adjustments.  It's not always easy but definitely worth the effort.  Venus in Aquarius is squaring Jupiter in Taurus, which isn't all bad.  Venus and Jupiter tend to get along well, even with a square aspect.  It is a fun-loving, social aspect and its only drawback is a tendency towards extravagance.   But the Moon in Virgo is also trining Jupiter in 11 degrees of Taurus, which can generate new ideas and a sense of optimism in planning for the future.  

Mars in Aquarius will be squaring Jupiter in 10 degrees of Taurus on February 26 and this can play out as lots more energy at our disposal to take the initiative and engage in some risk-taking.  Bring on those new projects!  We will be primed to fight for our belief systems and have more courage.  Just be mindful of a tendency to be tactless and impulsive.

Mercury and the Sun are both conjunct Saturn in 9 degrees of Pisces on February 28.  Mercury conjunct Saturn will help us with critical thinking, but it can feel somewhat heavy and trigger clashes with authority figures.  Try not to dwell on any negativity.  The Sun's meet-up with Saturn can bring on extra responsibilities and hard work.  Patience and discipline are going to be required.  This isn't exactly what we wanted to hear, but this is the way it is.

The month of February ends on a more positive note on the 29th when Mercury in Pisces is forming a supportive sextile to Jupiter in 11 degrees of Taurus. This is extremely favorable for communication and planning for the future.  It also boosts our decision-making skills.  It has a very social vibe too, so if you are in the mood to make new friends, get yourself out there.  Sometimes that extra day in the month is just what we need!

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Major Changes on the Horizon with a Full Moon in Virgo and Saturn Entering Pisces

 

This is a big month for change astrologically and we will have a perfect example of how this will play out on March 7 when we have a Full Moon in 16 degrees of Virgo at 7:40 a.m. and then Saturn enters Pisces at 8:35 a.m.  

Full Moons are considered to be times of closure and completion.  They can also reveal secrets and be quite emotionally chaotic.  A Full Moon in Virgo has themes of responsibility and duties trying to find some balance with the Pisces issues of escapism and compassion for others.  There is a strong theme of service to others laced with empathy.  It can be a healing time too, because Venus and Chiron were conjunct in 13 degrees of Aries on March 3.  This conjunction, only a day after the Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Aries on March 2, can bring deeper awareness of our emotional wounds. It will be important for all of us to get grounded on this day.  Mars in Gemini is factoring in heavily in this Full Moon too because both the Sun in Pisces and the Moon in Virgo are squaring it, so expect some explosions and temper tantrums. Uranus in 15 degrees of Taurus is trining the Moon and sextiling the Sun in Pisces.  With Uranus in the mix, technology and the Internet can be affected.  But Uranus in favorable aspects to the Full Moon will help us be more open to the changes we need to implement.

There are a lot of mutable planets on this Full Moon: the Sun, Mercury and Neptune in Pisces, the Moon in Virgo and Mars in Gemini.  Then Saturn moves into Pisces. I like to call this a Mutable Mash and it also fosters the ability to adapt to whatever changes are coming down the pike.  It is highly likely that many of us will feel overwhelmed with this Full Moon (spoiler alert) but we do have the tools to survive it and come out on the other side.  I personally think of it as a clearing Full Moon because it falls in my 12th house.

Saturn will be entering Pisces less than an hour later. It will remain in Pisces through February 2026.  Saturn is not terribly comfortable in Pisces because the Saturn theme of structure is not Pisces' bag.  Let's face it, Pisces is mutable water, it wants to flow and is averse to structure.  Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius, which for the past five years, has given us lockdowns, a pandemic and social distancing.  As a fixed sign, I am thrilled that Saturn is leaving Aquarius.  When Saturn enters Pisces, it will be trining my natal Mercury in Scorpio and I look forward to that. Saturn in Pisces will be trining all of my Scorpio and Cancer planets, which is a lot easier than the squares and opposition to my natal Pluto in Leo that I have endured with Saturn in Aquarius. I think that all of the fixed signs will be quite happy about this and will be heaving a collective sigh of relief.  Saturn in Pisces symbolizes an ending of the old world because Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and we could be dealing with some disillusionment and dissolution of those old structures.

Some of the other themes of Saturn in Pisces include healing and a testing of our spiritual beliefs. We might find ourselves developing more self-discipline around our spirituality. It can be a time of doing the work to make our dreams come true.  Just remember that Saturn requires us to be patient and diligent. If you have ever contemplated starting a meditation practice, this is the time to do it. Surrender to a Higher Power just might be in the cards.

It might be helpful for those of us who are old enough to think back to the last time Saturn was in Pisces.  The previous Saturn in Pisces transit occurred from May 1993 through April 1996.  Anyone born during this period will be experiencing their first Saturn Return in the next 2 1/2 years.  Saturn was also in Pisces from March 1964 to March 1966, and we all know that this was a time of  major social changes.  These folks will be having their second Saturn Return. Prior to that, Saturn was in Pisces from February 1935 to January 1938.  During that time, we had the Great Depression, the implementation of Social Security and Alcoholics Anonymous was born.  I don't think that anyone can dispute that alcoholism is a very Piscean theme, because let's face it, escapism and addiction are part of the shadow side of Pisces. Compulsive activities and a tendency towards playing the victim or martyr are also manifestations of the shadow side of Pisces.  When Saturn is in Pisces, we will be forced to deal with these issues.  But I firmly believe that Saturn in Pisces can indeed be a time of establishing more compassionate structures in our society and history bears this out.

This is only the beginning of the changes coming in the month of March.  Pluto enters Aquarius on March 23 and Mars enters Cancer on March 25.  Stay tuned for more info on these events in future posts.  But be mindful that this is a game-changing month...

An Empowering Full Moon in Virgo and the Sun Enters Aries

 

Today, March 18 is the day of the Full Moon in 27 degrees of Virgo.  While this is not technically a Super Moon, it will prove to be a pretty powerful Full Moon given the current state of the world.  The Sun in Pisces and Moon in Virgo are signs associated with health and they can work together to heal the body and the soul.  But they can also generate confusion and clarity as we are forced to see things that we don't want to see.  Virgo loves to analyze and fix things.  It is definitely a time to take care of our health but also to release our need for perfectionism.

Full Moons are highly emotional times and this one is no exception.  I know that most people have been feeling its effects since earlier in the week.  On March 17 I tweeted:

We could be feeling especially moody and prone to self-indulgence today with the Moon in Virgo opposing both Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces. It’s a prelude to tomorrow’s #FullMoon. #astrology

What is going on with the astrological landscape of this Full Moon?  I think that we need to acknowledge the Grand Earth Trine involving the Moon in 27 degrees of Virgo, Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn and the North Node in 24 degrees of Taurus.  The North Node represents our collective soul path in life and what we should be striving to achieve.  Earth energy likes to get things done and with a Full Moon in Virgo we have a strong theme of spiritual and practical service to others.  Frankly, I can't think of a better time to act on this compassionate and spiritual vibe. This Full Moon is occurring in my 12th house trining my Chiron in Capricorn so I am all for doing whatever can be done to heal myself and others.

There is a theme of empowerment with this Full Moon because the Sun in Pisces is forming a supportive sextile to Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon is trining it.  With the Sun sextiling Pluto, we might find ourselves resurrecting an old interest or talent from the past and reclaiming it.  We can run with this energy to make it a time of empowerment for the people by putting our best intentions forward to serve the collective good.  The Sun and Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces are also conjunct on the Full Moon, adding to the compassionate nature of this Full Moon. Mercury in 13 degrees of Pisces is conjunct Jupiter 18 degrees of Pisces on the Full Moon, which will provide a boost of creative energy that also benefits from the sextile to Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus.

Uranus in Taurus isn't done stirring the pot with the Full Moon.  On March 19 Venus in 12 degrees of Aquarius is squaring Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect can bring sudden romantic upsets or emotional breakups.  It's pretty volatile energy.  But it can also increase our interest in music and the arts, so it does have some perks.  On March 22 Mars in 12 degrees of Aquarius is taking its turn squaring Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus.  These two planets are definitely not playing nicely in the sandbox and we can expect more emotional upsets, possibly more earthquakes and there is a clear and present danger of cyberattacks.

But on March 20 the Sun moves into Aries for the first day of Spring and the Astrological New Year.  It is officially International Astrology Day.  The Sun is leaving the mutable and highly emotional water sign of Pisces for the cardinal fire sign of Aries.  Our focus will shift to feeling more impulsive and craving action. We are enthusiastic, spontaneous, direct and motivated by the desire to conquer. It is a time to take action and let go of the past.  We have more courage to pursue our dreams, the ones that were cultivated when the Sun was in Pisces.

I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. A Super Full Moon in Virgo and Mercury Stations Direct

Save the date of March 9, 2020.  It’s a very big day astrologically.  For starters, we have a super full moon in 19 degrees of Virgo.  It’s called a super full moon because it is so close to the earth that it is extremely bright and visible as it rises above the horizon.  The moon will be at perigee, meaning that it appears brighter and about 7% larger than a typical full moon.  But the piece de resistance is the second major astrological event of the day: Mercury stationing direct in 28 degrees of Aquarius at 11:49 p.m.  Time for a drum roll and a collective sigh of relief!

This is an extremely complicated full moon.  It is opposing Neptune in 18 degrees of Pisces, which also means that Neptune is conjunct the sun in Pisces. The sun in Pisces conjuncts its ruling planet Neptune emits a dreamy, intuitive, and visionary vibe.  But there is also the potential for deception and things that are hard to pin down because of its elusive quality.  The fact that the full moon is in the sign of Virgo emphasizes the theme of health concerns and right now the coronavirus is definitely playing into that theme.  In medical astrology, Neptune is related to the immune system and the coronavirus outbreak is a perfect example of that. Neptune has a strong association with viruses.

A full moon in Virgo is also about service to others, since Virgo rules the 6^th house.  The full moon opposing Neptune in Pisces cautions us to beware of self-deception.  Virgo is renowned for seeking perfection, worrying and being very efficient.  This full moon may feel very empowering for Virgos, but the rest of us may find ourselves needing to let go of unrealistic standards of perfection and dreams that are not practical.  I confess that this is not one of my favorite full moons: it falls in my 12^th house and squares my natal moon in Gemini in my 8^th house. The full moon in Virgo tends to make me feel out of control and powerless, especially with it transiting my 12^th house.  I acknowledge that it can be a very spiritual time, but it requires having faith in the unknown which isn’t always easy. There is a reason that the 12^th house is associated with surrender to a higher power.

This full moon does have some positive aspects going for it though. It trines Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn.  These trines provide us with the energy to declutter our thinking and work towards making our dreams a reality.  It’s really potent energy for manifestation, so don’t waste it. Emotional transformation is possible if we are open to going with the flow of the changing times.

Mercury stationing direct on the day of a full moon gives us an additional edge.  Whenever a planet is stationary, either direct or retrograde, its power and energy are intensified.  Mercury stationary direct on the day of a full moon can make us feel as if we are telepathic in terms of connecting with others. Mercury stationing direct may also lead to greater visionary insights.  Dreams could be especially vivid around the time of this full moon and they may offer us a more detached perspective on whatever issues are troubling us.

The Sun Enters Pisces, Chiron Enters Aries and a Full Moon in Virgo

We are facing another week of big astrological changes.  Just two days ago we had a major conjunction between Mars and Uranus in Aries, inspiring me to tweet:

We are dealing with some very aggressive and erratic energy today as Mars and Uranus are conjunct in 29 degrees of Aries. It’s quite literally a critical point and anything can happen so be mindful and careful. #astrology

I sense that we will be experiencing the repercussions of this energy for a few more days.  On Valentine’s Day, Mars moved into the Venus ruled sign of Taurus, which can lend a note of stability to relationships and hopefully ensure that we act in a more reasonable and less impulsive manner.

But mark your calendars for February 18, 2019 because we have two major astrological events occurring.  The Sun enters the mutable water sign of Pisces and Chiron enters Aries until 2027. I confess that the transit of the sun in Pisces is one of my favorite times of year, being a fellow water sign.  The energy becomes much softer and more compassionate with a focus on forgiveness, letting go, acceptance and heightened creativity and imagination.  Feel free to indulge in meditation and enjoying a bit of fantasy. But be careful not to get caught up in that shadow side of Pisces that also embraces self-pity, addiction and feelings of victimization.  That fish can swim in two directions and you want to be sure that you are headed upstream as much as possible.

But the really major transit of February 18, 2019 is Chiron entering Aries until 2027.  Of course Chiron was briefly in Aries from late April through late September 2018.  It never got past two degrees of Aries but now it is here to stay in Aries for eight years.  Chiron is all about healing and with it moving from Pisces to Aries the focus shifts from healing our spiritual self to healing our ego and sense of self.

When Chiron is in Aries we will be more aggressive and quick moving as we seek to find our inner power and reclaim our inner warrior. But we will also be confronting some pretty deep wounds to our identity.  Chiron in Aries can also help us reveal where our fear of conflict keeps us stuck in self-destructive patterns.  Alternative methods of healing will be emphasized and we might find ourselves taking more responsibility for our health. Chiron will be transiting my 6^th house for the first half of its transit in Aries, so I know that this will have a huge impact in my life.  If Chiron in Aries is transiting your sun, it can be a time of great physical healing.  Conversely, if Chiron is aspecting your ascendant, it can be a time fraught with hurt coming from others and you might choose to move on to a different group of friends.

Chiron has a pretty long cycle, given that most people are around the age of 50 when they experience their Chiron Return, unlike the Saturn Return, which occurs at age 29.  The last time that Chiron was in Aries was in 1968 and that was a pivotal time of change in this country and around the world.  Chiron in Aries literally screams “I am, I need to exist and be recognized.” So you can expect that this transit will involve healing that wound of identity and self- expression.

On February 19, 2019 we have a Full Moon in 0 degrees of Virgo.  This is also a Supermoon because it is 15% closer to the earth and larger than the regular full moon.  A supermoon can also increase the likelihood of high tides, earthquakes and tsunamis.  If you have trouble sleeping around this full moon, chalk it up to the effects of recent Mars Uranus conjunction in Aries on February 13^th. 

Full moons are also about closure and completion and this one is no exception.  We could very well be ending a major episode in life and about to enter a new one.  A full moon in Virgo will contain themes of efficiency, natural forms of healing, and practical solutions to problems.  Virgo is ruled by Mercury and ironically on February 19^th, Mercury in 16 degrees of Pisces enters the shadow period of its upcoming retrograde, which officially commences on March 5, 2019.  The best course of action under this full moon is to focus on the details and complete tasks at hand rather than launching new endeavors.  And be mindful of the fact that Virgo has a tendency to be critical, so watch that negative thinking.

Mercury in Pisces is also conjunct Neptune in 15 degrees of Pisces on the full moon and this will be a boon for creativity.  We may experience feelings of infinite possibilities and high ideals.  I have a natal Mercury Neptune conjunction, so I know how this feels.  It may require a reality check with all of this mutable energy.  But we do have Mars in 3 degrees of Taurus trining that full moon which can definitely support breakthroughs in relationships.
