A Full Snow Moon in Virgo and Mars Enters Gemini

 

The month of February has been action-packed and although it is the shortest month of the year, it is by no means a slouch when it comes to astrological activity. We had a Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, a pile-up of six planets in Aquarius on the New Moon on the 11^th, and the month will end with a Full Moon in 8 degrees of Virgo on February 27.  This Full Moon is sometimes referred to as the Snow Moon because February traditionally sees a lot of snow.  I’m sure that the state of Texas will not dispute that fact this year.

Full Moons are all about closure, completion and resolution.  I have no doubt that we could see some major secrets revealed at this Full Moon.  We had a New Moon in 25 degrees of Virgo on September 17, 2020.  Think back to what was happening in your life back then; if you started a new project then, you might be reaping the fruits of your labors. The themes associated with a Virgo moon involve health, jobs, discernment. Perfectionism, and our daily routines.  The pandemic has certainly wreaked havoc on our health, economy and the way we conduct our lives.

The Sun in Pisces is naturally opposing that Full Moon and that brings a certain amount of pain to the table.  Pisces is a sensitive water sign and with the Sun there opposing the Moon in Virgo, we might find ourselves in the process of dissolving some very painful experiences that were highly upsetting. Who among us in America was not moved this past week by the grim milestone of 500,000 deaths from COVID-19?  But we also need to remember that since Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac it can indicate a time to release those painful experiences.

Healing is a major theme of this Full Moon because the Moon is inconjunct Chiron in 7 degrees of Aries.  Inconjuncts are those irritating, uncomfortable aspects (one sign away from being an opposition at 150 degrees) that require us to make some adjustments for the two planets to coexist.  Our emotional expectations could very well need an overhaul for healing to occur.  We also have the Full Moon inconjunct Saturn in 7 degrees of Aquarius which requires us to be cautious as part of the adjustment process. There are two other inconjuncts to Mercury in 12 degrees of Aquarius and Jupiter in 16 degrees of Aquarius, which involve communication and expansion.  The Virgo Moon also opposes Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces, so there needs to be some balance in our expectations.  But the best part of this Full Moon is that it forms a flowing, beneficial trine to Uranus in 7 degrees in Taurus and this can restore a sense of harmony to our lives.  We’ll take it.

On March 3 Mars moves from the fixed earth sign of Taurus to the mutable air sign of Gemini, where it stays until April 23, 2021.  Mars spent six months in Aries in 2020 and for the first six days of 2021 due to a retrograde.  Mars in Aries was not exactly friendly to Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn in 2020 with all of those squares, but on February 24^th, it did redeem itself with a trine to Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn.  On that day I tweeted:

What can we expect when Mars is transiting the sign of Gemini?  Mars in Gemini is more flexible than Mars in Taurus, which could be down-right stubborn.  We are motivated to find new ideas and explore more diverse options.  The shadow side of Mars in Gemini is that it is more challenging to stay on track and we are likely to be less focused and more scattered.  But the brain is very appealing and sexy during the time Mars cruises through Gemini.  A mental connection could be more important than a fleeting physical attraction. And in terms of motivation, Mars in Gemini will be conjuncting the North Node in 13 degrees of Gemini on March 27, 2021 and this should serve as an adrenaline jolt of energy to achieve our collective goals that benefit the greater good for all.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I recently learned that I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Mercury Goes Direct and Venus Moves into Pisces

This has been another intense week astrologically, especially with the first of the three Saturn-Uranus squares on February 17 that will define 2021.  On that day I tweeted:

Today is the first of three Saturn-Uranus squares that will define 2021. It’s a battle between structure and change. Saturn is more comfortable in Aquarius than Uranus is in Taurus, so change will come about slowly but it is coming. #astrology

We aren’t out of the woods yet, so to speak.  On February 19, Venus in 22 degrees of Aquarius is exactly squaring 22 degrees of Taurus.  This is an epic fight in fixed signs as the tension between receptive and assertive aspects of our nature is heightened.  Nothing is going to get resolved with neither planet wanting to be told what to do.  Sex drives may be more urgent, but if there are existing relationship difficulties, they could get worse.  Be prepared for anger, lack of self-control and impulsiveness. 

But relief is on the way.  Mercury is stationing direct in 11 degrees of Aquarius on February 20, 2021 after having been retrograde since January 30, 2021.  This is a welcome relief from our communication and transportation woes, but be aware that when a planet is stationing, its power is heightened, so things could seem a little more chaotic for a couple of days.  I know that it will be somewhat crazy for me because the station is 3 degrees away from my natal Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house.  The Moon is in Gemini on the 20^th, and it trines Saturn, Mercury and Jupiter in Aquarius, which should be a big help for clearing up misunderstandings, setting boundaries and feeling more generous towards. The good news is that we will soon feel more comfortable in our communications and making decisions that could involve signing contracts.  Mercury doesn’t leave its retrograde shadow until March 13 in 26 degrees of Aquarius, but we should experience some improvements within the next week.

Many of my clients and friends have been telling me that they are lacking motivation these days.  That is no wonder between the weather and the pandemic.  I am happy to report that there is some good news on that front too.  We should start to get our mojo back on February 25 when Mars in Taurus is trining Pluto in Capricorn in 25 degrees of their respective signs.  This is a real shot of adrenaline energy for positive transformation and empowerment.  So prepare to feel motivated.  It’s a good thing when heavy hitters Mars and Pluto are playing nice in the sandbox, fueling us with that practical earth energy to help us accomplish our goals and make the necessary changes.

The best news of the week happens on February 25 when Venus enters the mutable water sign of Pisces and it stays there until March 21.  Venus is exalted in Pisces and is in its happy place.  When Venus is in Pisces, it’s dreamy and romantic.  Unconditional and spiritual love are riding high. It’s perfect for falling in love, but not so much for making a commitment because we are too idealistic about our partners.  Don’t forget that the shadow side of Venus in Pisces is its tendency to overlook flaws in others.   But it can be a very mellow, enjoyable ride so enjoy it while it lasts.  It represents yet another planet (following the Sun, who moved into Pisces on February 18) who is leaving the pileup of planets in Aquarius.  We still have Mercury, Saturn and Jupiter in that fixed air sign, but having a couple of planets in Pisces lightens the atmosphere.

A Sweet Valentine’s Day with Mercury and Jupiter Kissing and Then Saturn Squares Uranus and the Sun Enters Pisces

 

Today is actually the Lunar New Year of the Ox but yesterday, February 11, we had an amazing New Moon in Aquarius, which inspired me to tweet:

The #NewMooninAquarius today is conjunct retrograde Mercury in Aquarius which gives it more of a punch in terms of planting seeds for those intentions. And its square to Mars in Taurus can be quite energizing if we don’t get involved in conflicts. #astrology

But Valentine’s Day is this Sunday and we actually have pretty pleasant aspects going for us.  The Moon enters Aries in the morning, which should add to our ardor and it conjuncts Chiron in Aries, and this is a good thing because it can help heal longstanding wounds in relationships.  But the sweetest aspect is Mercury and Jupiter conjunct in 13 degrees of Aquarius.   These two planets bring good news and optimism.  We are more prone to utter sweet nothings their union promotes peace and harmony, which are very Aquarian themes. I am psyched because these two are also conjunct my Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house.

But the elephant in the room is the big square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus occurring on February 17.  This is just the first of three Saturn-Uranus squares of 2021.  The next two fall on June 14 and December 24.  Mark my words, this aspect will be to 2021 what the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn was to 2020.  It will have far-reaching implications that will define this year of transition.  Many people have told me that they are already feeling its effects.

Saturn in 7 degrees of Aquarius is exactly square Uranus in 7 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect screams friction and has a strong theme of change but it can manifest as change that you don’t want or extreme difficulty in implementing the changes that you do want.  Add the fact that personal freedoms and rights have a restrictive vibe and you have a perfect storm.  The Moon is also in Taurus on the 17^th conjuncting Uranus, so some kind of emotional upheaval is quite likely. The Moon is squaring Mercury and Saturn in Aquarius as well, amping up the level of tension and potential for conflict. Saturn is strong in Aquarius and was once considered to be the ruler of Aquarius, but Uranus is very uncomfortable in Taurus. Taurus is fixed earth and loves the finer things in life.  What we have here is a massive battle between structure and control vs. change. 

This is certainly not the first time we have undergone a Saturn-Uranus square.  One of the perks of age is that you get to live through certain transits and acquire some insight from them.  The last time Saturn and Uranus were squaring each other was in May 2000, and, ironically enough, Saturn was in Taurus and Uranus was in Aquarius.  Technology featured prominently back then because the squares actually started forming in 1999, which inspired the great Y2K fear.  No, the Internet didn’t crash and ATM’s didn’t close down, but there were rampant fears back then that those things would happen.  We also saw the dot.com bubble which burst. And ultimately the Saturn-Uranus square of 2000 led to 9/11 and the War on Terror.  There is no denying that 9/11 changed the world as we know it and now we can say that COVID-19 has rocked our world and our use of technology has been an invaluable tool during this pandemic.  Where would many of us be without Zoom or FaceTime?  Probably a lot more frustrated than we already are.  We are dealing with internal terrorists, if the insurrection of January 6 is any indication.  The bottom line is that we are headed towards a new world that will be quite dynamic.  And the trick to dealing with this uncomfortable feeling is to not resist it too much.  Try to remember the concept of the Serenity Prayer: “God grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change, the COURAGE to change the things I can and the WISDOM to know the difference.” And incorporate it into your life during these challenging times.

The Sun moves into the mutable water sign of Pisces on the following day, February 18.  This signifies the start of the Aquarius energy breaking up.  Okay, we still have Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius (Saturn is in Aquarius until March 2023) but even Jupiter takes a break from Aquarius and moves into Pisces briefly this year from May 13 to July 28 before it re-enters Pisces on December 28 for a longer-lasting run.  Venus leaves Aquarius for Pisces on February 25 and Mercury will leave Aquarius on March 15.

But what can we expect when the Sun is in Pisces?  Our energy is directed towards our dreams (start a dream journal now if you don’t already have one) and heeding our intuition and instincts.  We are being guided by altruistic feelings as we are more inclined to demonstrate empathy and selfless love.  As a Scorpio, I tend to love this transit because Pisces is in my 5^th house for part of its transit and it trines my Scorpio and Cancer planets. Just be mindful of the shadow side of the Sun in Pisces: feelings of self-pity, victimization and a desire to escape, which can include addiction.  Enjoy the next few weeks before the astrological New Year begins in earnest when the Sun moves into Aries.

Venus in Aquarius Gets Busy as it Approaches a New Moon in Aquarius

 

Venus entered the fixed air sign of Aquarius on February 1, inspiring me to tweet:

Venus in Aquarius has a very different vibe from Venus in Capricorn; it’s lighter and less controlling.  But it is also joining a posse of planets in Aquarius: the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn and retrograde Mercury.  By the time we reach the New Moon in 23 degrees of Aquarius on February 11, we will have a total of six planets in Aquarius.  We haven’t experienced such a pileup in Aquarius since February 4, 1962, when there were seven planets in Aquarius. Back then Mars was also in Aquarius.  There was a great deal of change going on back in 1962: it was a time of spiritual awakening, protests for civil and women’s rights and it was also the dawning of the hippie era.  Since Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, many people are already feeling the nervous tension that this tends to generate.

Venus in Aquarius is wasting no time interacting with the major planets before it conjuncts Jupiter in 12 degrees of Aquarius on the New Moon.  On February 6^th, it conjuncts Saturn in 6 degrees of Aquarius.  This is not the easiest aspect to deal with; Venus and Saturn are not exactly warm, fuzzy and affectionate when they hook up.  This aspect will challenge relationships and our grip on finances.  Some people might decide to call it quits at this time if things aren’t working.  But Venus and Saturn also has a talent for problem-solving in relationships and finances, so be mindful of this possibility.  Venus in Aquarius is forming a supportive sextile to Chiron in 6 degrees of Aries on the 6^th, which brings the potential for healing.  All is not lost…

Venus in Aquarius squares Uranus in 6 degrees of Taurus on February 6.  This aspect will challenge the stability and need for freedom in relationships, so there could definitely be some tempers flaring and group situations might get rowdy.

The New Moon in 23 degrees of Aquarius on February 11 is a perfect opportunity to plant the seed for new intentions that will help the collective good.  Whatever seeds we plant could bear fruit on July 24 with the Full Moon in Aquarius.  Keep that in mind as you make your plans. Venus and Jupiter are conjunct in 12 degrees of Aquarius on the New Moon.  This is a real feel good aspect that inspires us to want to have a good time and is characterized by good luck, financial gain and an expansion of our social life. We are literally reaping the benefits of the good karma that we have accrued.  Venus and Jupiter are known as the Benefics, so when they connect it is a really big deal.  I’d also like to remind everyone that Jupiter in Aquarius will be transiting the degree of that New Moon in early April, late September and mid-November 2021, so whatever intentions you set will be expanded and amplified by Jupiter during these times.  Even though Mercury in Aquarius is retrograde, it is still conjunct the Venus-Jupiter conjunction, providing us with new information for the choices that we face.  The Moon in Aquarius does square Uranus in 17 degrees of Taurus, which does have a testy vibe, but I believe that all of that positive energy with Mercury, Venus and Jupiter will offset it.  On a more personal note, the Venus-Jupiter conjunction is conjunct my Mars in Aquarius, so I am definitely pumped to take some positive action on the New Moon.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I recently learned that I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
