Mercury Retrogrades in Gemini and Venus Moves into Cancer

 

The retrograde party is about to welcome another guest.  Pluto stationed retrograde in Capricorn on April 27 and Saturn stationed retrograde in Aquarius on May 23.  On that day I tweeted:

Saturn stations retrograde in 13 degrees of Aquarius today for the next 5 months. It’s time to review our responsibilities and tie up loose ends. Our greatest obstacles now will be internal as opposed to external #astrology

But on May 29 the most well-known retrograde planet, Mercury, stations retrograde in 24 degrees of Gemini until June 22, 2021, when it stations direct in 16 degrees of Gemini.  Of course, if you count the shadow period (and I am definitely in that camp), we are not out of the woods until July 7 when Mercury clears its retrograde shadow.

This Mercury retrograde will be exacerbated by the fact that Mercury rules Gemini, so it’s even more likely for words to be misunderstood and technology to backfire.  I have been on the receiving end of communication and technology glitches already with the Mercury retrograde shadow. Mercury entered its retrograde shadow on May 15, FYI.  The usual Mercury retrograde cautions apply now: try not to purchase any electronics unless absolutely necessary and avoid scheduling important travel.  It’s not the best time to enter into long-term contracts either.  Remember the “re” in retrograde: review, revise and regroup.  And with Mercury retrograde in Gemini, we are bound to be impatient and want answers fast, so try to exercise some patience.  We could also find ourselves hearing from people in our past, such as exes and estranged relatives. They tend to crawl out of the woodwork when Mercury is retrograde.

Further complications of this Mercury retrograde include that we are in eclipse season and we have the second of three Saturn-Uranus squares on June 14.  The first eclipse was a powerful Lunar Eclipse on May 26 when Mercury was in its retrograde shadow and the next eclipse will happen on June 10: a Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Gemini.  And on June 5, Mercury in Gemini will be forming an exact square with Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces.  This aspect will play out in deception as the Neptunian fog thickens.  We are talking serious brain fog, folks.  Just warning you about this day…

We do get a bit of a break on June 2 when Venus leaves Gemini and enters the cardinal water sign of Cancer where it resides until June 27.  Venus is pretty comfortable in Cancer and a lot less jittery and fickle than Venus in Gemini.  Venus in Cancer is nurturing, protective of others and self-protective, while being somewhat cautious.  When Venus is in Cancer, we have more compassion and emotional security is a priority.  Tenderness, devotion and sentimentiality are all associated with Venus in Cancer.  We even experience a sweet trine between Venus in Cancer and Jupiter in Pisces on June 2.  When these two planets, known as the Great Benefics, get together, optimism, good cheer and love prevail.  It’s a very social aspect and also favors mending rifts in relationships and shopping.  The shadow side of Venus in Cancer is a tendency to moodiness and emotional manipulation.  Just be mindful of this and it should be a fairly enjoyable transit.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Saturn Retrogrades in Aquarius and a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius

 

We have a very emotional week coming up with Saturn in Aquarius stationing retrograde and eclipse season kicking off with a Supermoon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius.  Saturn stations retrograde in 13 degrees of Aquarius on May 23, 2021 and it remains retrograde until October 10^th when it stations direct in 6 degrees of Aquarius.  I think that by now we all know that Saturn rules discipline, responsibility, hard work, limitations and boundaries.  It’s not exactly a fun-loving, expansive planet.  That is Jupiter’s domain, and Jupiter is currently in a very happy place.  When Saturn is retrograde, it wants us to learn patience and review how well we have taken our responsibilites over the past few months.  Saturn is known as the Great Teacher and is associated with karma and karmic destiny.

I am taking this Saturn retrograde quite personally because it is stationing one degree away from my Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house.  I also have a very challenging natal Saturn. I have Saturn in Scorpio inconjunct my Moon in Gemini in my 8^th house and squaring my Mars in Aquarius.  But this week I came across several different astrologers commenting that sometimes depression can actually lift when Saturn is retrograde if one has a difficult natal Saturn.  What a Eureka moment for me!  And one of the perks of Saturn retrograde is that the obstacles confronting us during this period will be inner rather than outer.  Restrictions are being lifted pertaining to COVID at the end of May in Massachusetts and we will no longer be in a state of emergency by June 15.  I have been taking my responsibilities very seriously during the pandemic (and pretty much for most of my life, if the truth be told), so I am holding onto the thought that perhaps my own fears and insecurities will be the biggest blockages to my growth in the next five months.  It sure beats the external restrictions that COVID-19 has inflicted upon all of us for the past year.

Saturn retrograde is indeed a time to review and tie up loose ends.  Try not to launch any new endeavors. It might be helpful for all of us to think back what was happening in our lives during early February 2021, because Saturn was in 6 degrees of Aquarius then and Saturn will station direct in 6 degrees in October.  And of course, the astrological elephant in the room is the Saturn-Uranus square of 2021.  In 2020 we had the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn calling the shots, but in 2021 it is Saturn in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus, which has themes of the old vs. the new and control vs. freedom.  The first Saturn-Uranus square occurred on February 17 in 6 degrees of their respective signs, and we are headed toward the second of three Saturn-Uranus squares on June 14 in 13 degrees.   Many of us are already feeling its effects.  On May 18, the Leo Moon set if off, inspiring me to tweet:

The Saturn-Uranus square is being set off today with the Leo Moon squaring Uranus in Taurus and opposing Saturn in Aquarius. We could be experiencing some conflict over traditions and new approaches to relationships. #astrology

The bottom line with Saturn retrograde is that the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio are going to bear the brunt of it.  Fixed signs will be forced to confront the structures and limitations of their lives and how they have or haven’t stepped up.  But it is possible if that if you have been responsible you might start reaping some rewards because Saturn has been known to reward us for hard work.

The first eclipse of 2021 occurs on May 26 in 5 degrees of Sagittarius.  It will hit the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces the hardest. If your birthday is near May, September, November or February 26^th, this means you will experience massive changes in your life and you will probably find yourself needing to make some major decisions.  For Gemini and Sagittarius, it will probably involve relationships, while Virgo and Pisces will be striving to achieve some work-life balance.   Big things will fall away from our lives as we see culmination and fruition in the area of life the eclipse touches. There is an air of finality and endings will occur.  It’s true that all Full Moons tend to indicate some degree of closure or completion, but they also reveal what has been hidden.  And as I frequently tell my clients, Lunar Eclipses are like Full Moons on steroids, so we can expect the impact to be more intense.

What is the astrological landscape for this eclipse?  The Moon in Sagittarius is squaring Jupiter in 1 degree of Pisces, which could play out as confusion or quite literally as flooding with Jupiter in a water sign.  But it can also make us feel more psychic and intuitive.  Jupiter in Pisces is currently trining my Mercury in Scorpio, so I am going with that theme.  I would certainly advise everyone to pay attention to your dreams during this eclipse.  The Moon is also trining Chiron in 11 degrees of Aries, so emotional healing is possible and perhaps it signals an end to old feuds in relationships.  And the Moon is inconjunct Uranus in 12 degrees of Taurus, which is a real wild card vibe in terms of unpredictability and an anything can happen out of the blue feeling.  But the Moon also forms a supportive sextile to Saturn in 13 degrees of Aquarius, so we could very well find ourselves with the emotional fortitude to be practical and do the necessary work to end an outworn cycle and initiate some much-needed changes.

Mars and Saturn Frustrate Us, Pluto Empowers Us and the Sun Moves into Gemini

 

We are entering the week between major lunar activity and about to launch Eclipse Season. We had a powerful New Moon in Taurus on May 11, when I tweeted:

The first eclipse of 2021 will be a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26.  But we have a great deal going on before then.  On May 15, Mars in Cancer will be forming an irritating exact inconjunct with Saturn in 13 degrees of Aquarius.  Spoiler alert—this is not going to be an easy day.  We are probably going to be feeling frustrated if things are not going our way and this could be accompanied by a fear of failure as well.  It’s important to remember that our fears can stop us from doing the responsible thing. This aspect also tends to manifest in experiencing limitations from family obligations or authority figures.  Don’t be surprised if you feel victimized on some level.  The bottom line with inconjuncts is that they require an adjustment be made.  The adjustment could pertain to issues of life/work balance. Mars want to move forward with its foot on the accelerator but Saturn is saying slow down and be careful.  I know that I will be feeling this aspect acutely because Saturn is conjuncting my Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house right now.  And we also have Mercury in 16 degrees of Gemini entering its retrograde shadow on the same day.  Mercury officially stations retrograde on May 29 in 24 degrees of Gemini, but trust me, we will start to feel the effects of Mercury retrograde when it enters the shadow period.

On May 17, we have a really empowering aspect.  The Sun in Taurus is trining Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn.  I’m sure that many of you are crowing, it’s about time that Pluto does something nice for a change.  Last year’s Saturn-Pluto conjunction and the three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions ramped up the intensity level in terms of limiting our freedom and amplifying the effects of the pandemic. Intense and deep experiences will be present on this day which will be beneficial for positive transformation.  We might actually feel like we have more power and influence in our lives again.  At the very least, we can use this aspect to get rid of the clutter in our lives.  And that could mean psychological and emotional stuff in addition to physical belongings.

On May 20, the Sun departs the fixed earth sign of Taurus for the mutable air sign of Gemini. It’s going to be a very different vibe.  We will be feeling more social and want to meet new people.  Communication is very important now because Mercury rules Gemini. Our focus will shift to acquiring knowledge as we are more intellectually curious and diversity is more appealing to us.  We literally want to have a finger in every pot.  The shadow side of the Sun in Gemini is that we tend to be more fickle due to the plethora of choices and options available to us and we could feel more scattered.  This might lead to a perception of us being more unreliable.  Taurus was known for its steadfast quality, so yes, it is a big change. But we can feel more ready to go with the flow and flex those adaptability muscles.

Venus Gets Flirty in Gemini, a New Moon in Taurus and Jupiter Dips into Pisces

 

The love vibe is about to experience a major change when Venus moves out of its happy place in Taurus on May 8 to join Mercury in Gemini.  Mercury entered its happy place in Gemini on May 3, inspiring me to tweet:

Venus will be in Gemini until June 2, and love will be flirty and light.  Curiosity will be a major motivating factor for romance as our attractions will begin with words and mental connections.  Fun, spontaneity and variety are all themes that characterize the transit of Venus in Gemini.  We might feel a bit fickle and find it hard to choose a partner.  Since Gemini is the sign of the twins and is a mutable air sign, it’s possible that some might be seeing two people at once.  Gemini is not known for its sense of commitment and steadfastness (that was prevalent when it was in Taurus), so don’t fret if you feel like playing the field.  By the time Venus moves into Cancer on June 2, we are more likely to feel like nesting with a loved one. 

On May 11, 2021, we have a powerful New Moon in 21 degrees of Taurus.  This is a perfect time to set new intentions and do some grounding work.  I won’t sugarcoat it, so I will tell you flat out that anyone with planets around 21 degrees of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel the strongest effects of this New Moon.  It is opposing my Sun and Venus in Scorpio and squaring my Pluto in Leo, so I am on high alert.  Uranus in 11 degrees of Taurus is very active in this New Moon as well because it is receiving a sextile from Mars in Cancer.  Uranus in Taurus can manifest in sudden awakenings and enlightenment, but it can also play out in the form of earthquakes and volcanoes.  As I have said before, you just never know with Uranus…

The fixed energy drama of this New Moon drama continues with Jupiter in 29 degrees of Aquarius and Saturn in 13 degrees of Aquarius.  Jupiter is feeling very rebellious in the last degree of Aquarius and Saturn in Aquarius is a very restrictive influence.  Saturn in Aquarius is making the fixed sign group acknowledge their responsibilities and forcing them to use patience and hard work as coping tools.  Saturn is conjunct my natal Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house now and I can certainly attest to that fact.  Nothing is easy.

But the New Moon in Taurus also features Mercury in Gemini conjunct the north node in10 degrees of Gemini and trining Saturn in Aquarius.  This is a good time to talk.  And Mars in Cancer is squaring Chiron in 11 degrees of Aries, which can be painful but productive if we confront our deepest wounds and express our needs to someone else so that we can heal them once and for all.  One of the most positive aspects of the New Moon in Taurus is that it also trines Pluto in 26 degrees of Capricorn, which gives us an added boost in the transformative power of our revelations and rebellions. 

On May 13, 2021, Jupiter enters the mutable water sign of Pisces until July 28.  It’s a brief stay, with Jupiter stationing retrograde in 2 degrees of Pisces on June 20 and slipping back into Aquarius in late July.  But Jupiter will return to Pisces on December 28, 2021 for a nice long stay.  Jupiter in Pisces will help us be more intuitive and compassionate.  Spiritual movements could proliferate and we should see a deeper interest in mental health issues and alternative healing methods.  And the early Pisces gang are primed to experience some abundance, fulfillment and growth in their lives.  The shadow side of Jupiter in Pisces is a tendency for confusion to occur and possible flooding.  Let’s hope we don’t see too much of either of those conditions.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
