Mercury Enters Libra for an Extended Stay

 

Mercury is about to leave its home sign of Virgo on August 30.  Mercury is usually very happy in Virgo, but it has really been stirring the pot lately.  On the 24^th, Mercury was in direct opposition to Neptune in 22 degrees of Pisces.  On that day I tweeted:

Mercury will enter the cardinal air sign of Libra on August 30 and it will remain in Libra until November 5.  What is the reason for this extended stay?  We are headed for another Mercury Retrograde on September 27.  Mercury will station retrograde in 25 degrees of Libra on that day and will station direct on October 18 in 10 degrees of Libra.  If you have any planets between 10-25 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn you will bear the brunt of this retrograde. As usual, I am right in the line of fire.  Mercury stations retrograde one degree away from my natal Neptune in the 1^st house, two degrees away from my Juno in Libra, and my natal Jupiter, Uranus and Midheaven will be squared by this Mercury Retrograde transit, as will my north node in Capricorn and south node in Cancer.  But you can find some comfort in the knowledge that Pluto still station direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn on October 6, Saturn will station direct in 6 degrees of Aquarius on October 10 and Jupiter in 22 degrees of Aquarius on October 17.  So all is not lost just because Mercury is retrograde. Forward movement is possible with these major players going direct before Mercury does.  We’ll just have to wait a little longer for Neptune and Uranus to get on the train of direct planets.

What can we expect communication to be like when Mercury is in the sign of Libra?  Mercury in Libra is diplomatic and friendly with a more rational approach to relationships.  It literally can be more objective as it weighs the pros and cons of everything.  Remember that image of Libra with the scales.  Mercury in Libra has an innate talent for considering other points of view and is a real smooth talker.  And since Mercury will be in Libra for over two months, it is a perfect opportunity to heal wounds caused by arguments or misunderstandings.  We might find it easier to use tact in reaching a consensus and rebuilding connections with others.

The shadow side of Mercury in Libra is a tendency towards vacillating and people pleasing.  Just don’t waste too much time asking everyone you know what to do or being TOO NICE to people.  Indecisiveness is not appealing and ignoring your own needs to appease others is not productive.  If we are mindful of these potential pitfalls, we should be just fine.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. At some point, probably in 2022, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. A Blue Full Moon in Aquarius and the Sun Enters Virgo

 

Save the date of August 22 because it will be a momentous day because of two very special events.  The first is a Blue Full Moon in 29 degrees of Aquarius occurring at 8:02 a.m.  It is called a Blue Moon because it is the second Full Moon in Aquarius this year.  The first one happened on July 23^rd in 1 degree of Aquarius.  The second major event that day is the Sun moving into Virgo at 5:35 p.m.

The Full Moon falls in the critical or anaretic degree of 29.  The themes of an Aquarian Full Moon pertain to truth, freedom and rebellion.  The Moon also conjuncts retrograde Jupiter in 26 degrees of Aquarius, which indicates that there is potential for us to be emotionally generous and come together with like-minded people in a quest for justice. There is no doubt that there will be big emotional reactions to this Full Moon.  Having Jupiter in the mix at this Full Moon could trigger inflation economically.  We also need to keep in mind that there is a three day window for big emotional reactions to play out: the day of the Full Moon, as well as the day before and the day after.

It’s no secret that we currently have a lot of planets retrograde now: Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Chiron and now Uranus in Taurus.  Uranus stationed retrograde in 14 degrees of Taurus on August 18, when I tweeted:

Uranus is a major player in this Full Moon.  For starters, it is the ruling planet of Aquarius.  But the fact that it stationed retrograde four days before the Full Moon intensifies its energy.  It is no accident that the news is about an earthquake in Haiti and the upheaval in Afghanistan.  Whenever a planet stations retrograde or direct, its power is magnified for approximately one week before and after the station. Mars in Virgo also trines Uranus in Taurus on the Full Moon, which only adds to the volatility.  I loved what astrologer Penny Thornton said about Uranus in her latest video about this Full Moon: learn to live with uncertainty and manage our circumstances by living in the moment.  We have no other rational choice these days.  Uranus is not very happy in the sign of Taurus, so I suspect that we will continue to experience extreme weather like earthquakes, sudden events and structural changes. And we could see some changes in technology with Uranus as a major factor in this Full Moon.  I hope it doesn’t happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some cyberattacks were launched.  Uranus is breaking things down to break through to a new level of freedom and it is definitely not the most comfortable or smoothest ride. When Uranus stationed retrograde, it was exactly squaring my Mars in Aquarius, so I certainly felt its impact.

The Full Moon conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius also contains a positive theme of human rights and justice.  It is also forcing us to reflect on the New Moon in 23 degrees of Aquarius that occurred on February 11, 2021.  Don’t be surprised if events from back then need to be addressed in your personal life.  Mercury in 18 degrees of Virgo is opposing Neptune in 22 degrees of Pisces on the Full Moon, so there could be some more news about COVID emerging.  Don’t forget that Full Moons shed light on matters as well as providing culmination.  In the United States they have already announced that a third booster shot is recommended for the COVID vaccine. COVID was raging back in February and this Delta variant has sent us in a downward spiral in terms of controlling the virus.  But another favorable aspect that we have on the Full Moon is Venus in 7 degrees of Libra trining Saturn in 8 degrees of Aquarius.  This is a very positive influence for relationships.  Venus entered its happy place on August 16 and on that day I tweeted:

The big astrological event of the day is Venus moving into Libra its happy place. Relationships should become more harmonious as we are more cooperative and diplomatic. #astrology

The Moon moves into Pisces at 8:43 a.m. on August 22 and then the Sun moves into Virgo at 5:35 p.m.  When the Sun is in Virgo, we will shift our focus to taking care of practical concerns and details.  It’s time to get organized and also to tend to health matters.  I have always thought it was very appropriate and fitting that Virgo is the sign associated with back to school season. The emphasis will shift from air and fire to water and earth.  We are going to be feeling and doing things with this planetary energy. Virgo loves to accomplish and is very task-oriented.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Virgo is a tendency to be judgmental or critical as it strives for perfectionism and we should thrive with this transit of the Sun.

Venus Moves into Libra, Mercury and Mars Hook Up in Virgo and Uranus Stations Retrograde

 

Happy Friday the 13^th!  This has been a tough week astrologically, and I suppose it is fitting that it ends with a Friday the 13^th and a super-frustrating aspect.  Mars in Virgo is exactly inconjunct Saturn in 9 degrees of Aquarius.  These are not two planets that play well together and with this aspect their theme song is one of fear that prevents us from doing the responsible thing.  We need to make some adjustments between our work and relationship life.  Adjustments are always required when inconjuncts are involved. 

But on August 16, we get a breather when Venus departs Virgo for Libra.  Venus rules Taurus and Libra, so it is truly in its happy place.  Venus remains in Libra until September 10, so make the most of this transit.  When Venus is in Libra, charm reigns supreme, we are adept at negotiating and compromising in relationships because we seek harmony and balance.  It’s also a time for appreciating the arts and beauty.  Venus in Libra also brings out our inner social butterfly. We can be a bit idealistic about love or overindulgent when it comes to our finances, so be mindful of that.  The shadow side of Venus in Libra is a tendency towards dependence and inconsistency.  If we are cognizant of these issues, we should be able to enjoy Venus in Libra.

On August 18, Mercury and Mars are conjunct in 12 degrees of Virgo.  Mercury entered Virgo on the 11^th, inspiring me to tweet:

When Mercury and Mars are linked together in Virgo, our words can be our greatest weapon.  There will be increased mental activity with a tendency towards defensiveness.  It is a very aggressive vibe.  We all know that Virgo has a shadow side of being very critical, so choose your battles carefully as we are prone to act before thinking.

Uranus will station retrograde in 14 degrees of Taurus on August 19 until January 18, 2022.  This is an annual event, but this year it is more critical due to the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square.  Uranus has a theme of expecting the unexpected as the Wild Card planet and it is almost impossible to predict what will happen.  We do know that this is a year of transition and Saturn in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus urges us to overcome our fear of change in the structures of our lives.  Uranus retrograde forces us to embrace internal changes in attitudes or behaviors in response to the external changes in life that are uncomfortable.    We will be able to implement the necessary changes when Uranus is direct in January 2022 if we do the work in the next few months.

I have a natal Uranus that is retrograde in Cancer in my 10^th house and I have always recognized that it made me a bit of a rebel.  It certainly contributed to my becoming an astrologer!  But I recently read that Uranus retrograde natally can also make a person feel like they have more Saturn in their chart due to their fear of change.  I also have Saturn in my 1^st house, so this is not exactly welcome news.  But I do realize that it took me many years (my Second Saturn Return, to be precise) before I found the courage to pursue my passion of astrology as a calling and relinquish the security of my full-time job with a steady paycheck and benefits.  I swear that in addition to my Second Saturn Return, it took transiting Jupiter conjuncting my south node in Cancer in my 9^th house to inspire me to take that leap of faith.  I have never regretted it.  And yes, Uranus was retrograde when I did it.  So I urge all of you to keep this in mind as we undergo the Uranus retrograde of 2021.

Uranus Takes Another Hit, a Potent Heart-Centered New Moon in Leo and Mercury Enters Virgo

 

Uranus in Taurus is seeing a great deal of planetary action this week and for that matter, all year.  How could we forget that Saturn in Aquarius has three exact squares with Uranus in Taurus, in February, June and December of 2021? On August 3, Mercury in 14 degrees of Leo exactly squared Uranus in Taurus and I tweeted:

Get ready for Uranus to take another hit from the Sun in Leo squaring Uranus on August 6.  This will be another stressful aspect as it manifests in unease, uncertainty and anxiety about the impending changes that are coming, like it or not.  Unexpected disturbances are par for the course with this energy.  Sudden changes in behavior are likely and we will have no problem standing up for ourselves if the situation calls for it.  If you have any planets around 14 degrees of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, you will feel the brunt of this aspect.  I have my natal Saturn in 12 degrees of Scorpio and Mars in 14 degrees of Aquarius, so I know that I am on the firing line.

But we do have a delightful New Moon in 16 degrees of Leo on August 8.  There is a great deal of buzz about this being called the Lionsgate 88 Portal.  What does this mean?  It is activated by the numerology of 8/8 and the rising of the star Sirius, which is the Spiritual Sun.  The lion represents Leo and Leo rules the heart.  This New Moon should open a galactic portal allowing high vibrational energy to be sent to earth.  Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? And the number 8 is associated with infinity and the forever conscious part of our soul.  So this New Moon has the potential for creating abundance, power and higher realms of consciousness.  This is a perfect time to set new heart-centered intentions as we embark on a path of change and clearing our energy to receive.

All New Moons have a theme of setting new intentions but a New Moon in Leo is all about creativity and planting the seeds of growth for whatever area of life the New Moon falls in your chart.  For me personally, it is at the end of my 10^th house of career and public standing.  We also have a preponderance of planets in fixed signs: the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Leo, Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus.  The fixed signs possess a great deal of tenacity and determination, so they will pursue what they want and not give up easily.  And of course, this New Moon is setting off that astrological elephant in the room, the Saturn-Uranus square.  The fixed signs will feel the effects of this New Moon the most as they seek to break down the old in their quest to break through to the new.  And that Moon is squaring Uranus in Taurus, so I am sure there will be some surprises headed our way.

On August 11, Mercury departs Leo, where it has been extremely uncomfortable and enters its happy place, Virgo.  Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, so it will definitely be in a better place until August 30.  When Mercury is in Virgo, our minds are sharp and our speech is precise.  We have a laser-like attention to details.  We will have more power to analyze information and communication is clearer.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Mercury in Virgo is a tendency to be hypercritical and we should all enjoy this transit.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. At some point, probably in 2022, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. This new Delta strain of the virus is very serious and we need to remain vigilant with our masks, even if we are fully vaccinated.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus!
