A Game-Changing Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio

 

Fasten your seat belts because we are in for a bumpy ride on May 16 with a Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in 25 degrees of Scorpio.  This is the second eclipse of 2022 (the first occurred on April 30 in 10 degrees of Taurus) and it is big because it is a Super Moon due to the Moon being so close to the earth that it appears red.  And it is in Scorpio, which is a deeply emotional water sign which only adds to the theme of Lunar Eclipses functioning like full moons on steroids.  A Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio will also have themes of power, control, purging and the potential for betrayal of trust thrown into the mix.

This is a South Node eclipse to boot, which has a strong emphasis on releasing the past.  Eclipses are either North or South Node eclipses.  North Node eclipses tend to propel us into the future while South Node eclipses help us to release the past. This one is conjunct the South Node in 22 degrees of Scorpio and we could literally feel like we are being guided to close the door on a chapter in our lives.  Just remember that if something ends in our life now as a result of this eclipse triggering a cycle of completion, we are being taken to where our soul needs to be.  The fact that it is in Scorpio indicates that we might feel a strong need to retreat as we seek to transform ourselves.  We could be shedding some layers of skin in the process, but don't forget that Scorpio is also associated with the Phoenix, which can literally rise from the ashes as it taps into its inner strength and power to rebirth itself.  If you are old enough, you might want to think back to May 16, 2003 when we had a Lunar Eclipse in 24 degrees of Scorpio.  Are there any similar issues in your life now that compare to that period of time?  And the effects of Lunar Eclipses can be felt for up to six weeks before and after they occur.

What does the astrological landscape look like for this eclipse?  For starters, speaking of the power theme, we could literally be stepping into our power with that Full Moon in 25 degrees forming a supportive sextile to Scorpio's ruling planet Pluto in 28 degrees of Capricorn.  The Scorpio Moon is also forming a wide opposition to Uranus in 15 degrees of Taurus, which contributes themes of volatility, change, excitability and a desire for freedom.  The Full Moon is also squaring Saturn in 24 degrees of Aquarius, which is sure to add notes of sadness and depression to the day.  It's also a great deal of fixed energy, which can make us resistant to the change we all need to make.  it's hard to change the structure of your life and the pandemic has reinforced that theme in the past two years.

But there is definitely hope available to us during this eclipse.  Jupiter recently entered the sign of Aries on May 10 and it will be forming a supportive sextile to Mercury in 4 degrees of Gemini, so our thinking for the future can be big. On May 10, I tweeted about Jupiter entering Aries for the first time in twelve years:

Jupiter in Aries is all about being a hero and a warrior.  We will all have an urge to take some kind of action while Jupiter is in the sign of Aries.  It's a little dicey that Jupiter is sextiling a retrograde Mercury, but we can always revise those plans in the future.  Mercury happened to station retrograde on the same day that Jupiter entered Aries, so it's not exactly a coincidence that these two planets are factoring into this eclipse.

Mars in 22 degrees of Pisces is also a major player in this Lunar Eclipse.  It sextiles the North Node in 22 degrees of Taurus, which can be a big boost to making progress in leaving the past behind.  Mars is also conjunct Neptune in 24 degrees of Pisces.  This conjunction is exact on May 18 when Mars hits 24 degrees of Pisces.  Mars conjunct Neptune in Pisces can play out in a myriad of ways: it can inspire compassionate and spiritual action which leads to miracles or it can result in chaos and confusion. You never know how Neptune is going to manifest.  I would think it is safe to surmise that there will be some big emotional reveals either way.  Let's hope that the shadow side of Neptune with its deception is not too active.  And we need to be mindful of the fact that sometimes chaos is necessary for rebirth to occur.  

I am taking this eclipse quite personally because it is heavily impacting my natal chart.  It is conjunct my Sun, Venus, and Ceres in Scorpio, squaring my Pluto in Leo and trining my Midheaven, Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer.  It is also sextiling my Chiron in Capricorn, so here's to the healing part of it...

For the history buffs, I'd like to remind you that this Lunar Eclipse is a mirror of the Lunar Eclipse that occurred on November 19, 2021 in 27 degrees of Taurus.  Think back to what was going on in your life then and see if anything is similar to back then or is ending.  Our next Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse will happen on November 8, 2022 in 16 degrees of Taurus, which should see a continuation of themes that will be set in motion during the May 16 Lunar Eclipse.  And that eclipse is also the day of mid-term elections in the United States.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
