Mercury Enters Libra and a Full Moon in Aries

Hang on folks, because the intensity of the past week shows no signs of abating.  A week ago the moon was in Scorpio and when it moved into Sagittarius on September 25^th, I mistakenly believed the emotional tone would lighten up, but I was sadly mistaken.  On September 26, 2017, I tweeted:

I quickly realized that I had hit a collective nerve with that tweet. It may have been a Sagittarius moon but it was far from jolly and spontaneous.  Chalk that up to it squaring Mars in Virgo and conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius.

On September 28, 2017, we had two more major astrological events, Pluto stationing direct in 16 degrees of Capricorn and the third and final Jupiter in Libra/Uranus in Aries opposition in 27 degrees of their respective signs.  On that day I tweeted:

But the fun is starting today when Mercury moves into the Venus ruled sign of Libra at 8:42 pm and it stays in Libra until October 17, 2017.  Mercury in Libra is all about charm and diplomacy accompanied by bouts of indecisiveness. We are all familiar with the stereotype of Libra saying “What do you think?”  I have a Libra ascendant, and I confess that that I am prone to asking 10 people what they think before I make a major decision.  The tone of communications is about to change drastically.  We can find it possible to be more rational (don’t forget that Libra scales of justice symbol), but we want to please people and compromise may be much easier in relationships than it has been in recent weeks.  And Mercury in Libra will feature prominently in the upcoming full moon in Aries on October 5, 2017.

But we also have a pretty major aspect occurring on October 1, 2017.  Mars in 16 degrees of Virgo will be forming an exact trine to newly direct Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn.  This is a good thing to be sure.  These two heavy hitters, the co-rulers of the sign Scorpio, are playing nice together.  The beauty of this aspect is that you can be assertive and direct while still maintaining harmony.  Mars and Pluto working together can provide a surge of directed energy to achieve ambitions.  It is a win-win situation, so strike while the iron is hot on this day.

And next week the big news is the full moon in 12 degrees of Aries on October 5, 2017.  This will be a very powerful full moon, due in no small part to the preponderance of planets in cardinal signs.  Obviously, the sun and moon are in cardinal signs (Libra and Aries), but we also have Mercury in Libra, Jupiter in Libra, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.  Cardinal signs are all about action, setting intention and getting moving things moving.  They are the movers and shakers of the zodiac.

Both the sun and moon will be squaring Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn, so this full moon will carry a strong relationship theme.  It will challenge how you handle power—do you give your power away or do you control others?  Compromise is another theme of this full moon as it literally symbolizes the Aries moon (me) vs. the Libra sun (we) dichotomy. The fact that Venus and Mars are conjunct in 19 degrees of Virgo and trining Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn on the day of the full moon adds to the relationship mix.  Venus and Mars in Virgo are also squaring Saturn in 22 degrees of Sagittarius, which adds more stress to the situation due to negative feelings surfacing.  And Saturn’s presence in this full moon will ensure that we don’t neglect our responsibilities in relationships. 

Full moons are also about revealing secrets and with Pluto in Capricorn being aspected so heavily I wouldn’t be surprised if some government secrets were let out of the political bag so to speak.  A full moon squaring Pluto can bring out compulsive and destructive behavior that leads to power struggles.

The plot really thickens with Mercury in Libra during this full moon.  Mercury will be in 9 degrees of Libra conjunct the sun in 12 degrees of Libra.  Naturally this means that the full moon in Aries is opposing Mercury in Libra and this can result in arguments or misunderstandings (let’s just be grateful that Mercury is direct) as we seek to communicate our feelings.

I don’t know about any of you, but I have been immensely enjoying the last days of Jupiter transiting Libra and the Jupiter/Uranus opposition.  Of course, I have a natal Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Cancer, so I am attuned to its energy.  Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 10, 2017.  More on that next week.  For the past week, transiting Jupiter has been conjunct my natal Neptune in Libra in my first house and I have been experiencing an incredibly expansive spiritual time.  My dreams have been intense and vivid, conjuring up people from my past.  I am hoping that this is for the purpose of healing on a deeper level.  It is also fueling my work as a healer and empowering me with more compassion for others.

The Sun Enters Libra, Mars Opposes Neptune and Jupiter Opposes Uranus Take 3

Happy Fall Equinox!  The sun is entering the air sign of Libra at 4:02 pm on September 22, 2017, officially kicking off the fall season.  But many of us may have begun to feel the Libra vibe on September 20, 2017, when the moon entered Libra, prompting me to tweet:

There is a big energy difference between the sun in Virgo and the sun in Libra.  The sun in Virgo is all business, down to earth (it is after all, an earth sign), very practical and analytical.  Virgo likes to focus on service to others and health. When the sun enters Libra, we are in for a month when the focus shifts to finding balance and harmony through relationships with others and through art.  It is a very social air sign that is the ultimate people pleaser.  Libra doesn’t like to rock the boat and there can be problems with decision making while the sun is transiting Libra.  Libra is the sign representing the scales of justice and it tends to weigh all factors very carefully before rendering a decision. This is where the notorious quality of Libra indecisiveness comes into play.  I’m sure all of know at least one Libra who feels the need to ask at least 10 people what they think before making a decision.

But Libra at its best can be tactful, stylish, tolerant and sociable.  Polite and cooperative are also accurate descriptions of positive Libra traits.  Just be mindful that the shadow side of Libra, in addition to its indecisiveness, includes a self-serving nature, passive aggressive behavior and a tendency towards being superficial.

The Libra energy will manifest in whatever house of your chart it happens to be transiting.  For me, it starts in my 12^th house and on October 9^th, it enters my 1^st house.  Needless to say, I am counting the days for the 1^st house transit.  Right now I am dealing with my subconscious, letting go and themes of retreat, regeneration and rest are paramount. Having the sun transit the 1^st house is a fun time – it is time to be in the spotlight and put the focus on yourself.  It is me time and I plan on making the most of it.  If you are curious as to where this is happening in your chart, please consider getting an astrological reading with me.  I offer three and six month transit readings which can be very informative and really give you a heads up on what is in store for you in the coming months.

On September 24, 2017, Mars in Virgo will be opposing Neptune in Pisces in 12 degrees of their respective signs.  I won’t sugarcoat it; this can be one challenging transit.  It can be accompanies by feelings of discouragement, weakness and inadequacy. It can also trigger issues with addiction and substance abuse. The challenge of this transit is to act with compassion and with a mind towards oneness while being mindful of the fact that what you resist persists.  Resistance can also mean blocking change on an individual and global level as we feel stuck and literally resist the call to move forward.  And Neptune’s influence can also make this a prime time for con artists and scammers to emerge while many of us may be dealing with our own self-deception.  This is not an optimal time to be assertive in career matters because disappointment may result.

All is not gloom and doom with this Mars/Neptune aspect, however, Remember that Mars is not terribly comfortable in Virgo, while Neptune has the home court advantage because Neptune is in its home sign of Pisces.  Neptune in Pisces has the power to link us to universal truth, wisdom and intuition to guide us.  It’s a pretty potent package and it can overrule Mars.  The trick of surviving and prospering with this transit is to regard it as a mirror for deceptions and hidden agendas.  Pay attention to your dreams and intuition at this time,

On September 28, 2017, the same day that Pluto stations direct in 16 degrees of Capricorn, we have the third and final Jupiter in Libra opposition to Uranus in Aries.  The first opposition occurred on December 27, 2016 in 20 degrees when both planets were direct, and the second opposition occurred on March 7, 2017 in 22 degrees when Jupiter was retrograde.  This time it will occur in 27 degrees and Uranus is retrograde.  Uranus in Aries can be very tough and a real game changer, while Jupiter in Libra is trying to balance both sides and make everything work.  This aspect has a strong theme of an increased need for personal freedom and excitement.  Many of us will experience a strong urge to rebel against whatever is holding us back from having fun.  Jupiter/Uranus contacts are very unpredictable and your luck can change in the blink of an eye.  I have a natal Jupiter/Uranus conjunction myself and I can attest to this fact.  This aspect will also be hitting my Neptune in 26 degrees of Libra, so I know that I will be in its crossfire.  Perhaps the best way to deal with the sense of urgency and need for change that this transit inspires is to consider a change in beliefs.

The Virgo Posse Expands As Venus Enters Virgo and New Moon in Virgo

Venus is joining the posse of planets in Virgo which includes the sun, Mars, and Mercury on September 19^th.  As an added bonus, Mercury is finally out of its retrograde shadow on that day as well.

But before Venus enters Virgo, Venus in Leo conjuncts the north node in Leo on September 15, 2017.  This is a truly delightful aspect for creative purposes and working on improving relationships.  A north node in Leo is helping all of us get more in touch with our creativity and ability to love, so this is a very sweet combination as it guides us on our collective destiny.

I sense also that many of us are still reeling from the effects of last week’s full moon in Pisces and the recent hurricane Irma in Florida.  Somehow I believe that the combination of the August eclipses and that full moon in Pisces, the sign ruled by Neptune, are partially responsible for all of this water damage.  But Pisces also rules compassion and healing, and that energy is particularly potent these days with both Chiron and Neptune in Pisces.  The moon moved into its home sign of Cancer on September 13^th and coming on the heels of Hurricane Irma and the anniversary of 9/11, I have certainly felt that intensely emotional water energy.  On September 14^th, I tweeted:

.As an empath and healer, I have been inundated with the depth of emotions that I am experiencing in response to recent events in the world.  As a healer, I just want to make things better.  It is truly encouraging to see that others are feeling this compassionate vibe.  On September 14^th I also retweeted a tweet that represented the good stories coming as a result of Irma:

Initially, I believed that my nostalgia and reflective mood were due to the sun transiting my 12^th house, but I think that the recent full moon in Pisces on September 6^th is an even bigger player and contributing factor in this drama.

Venus in Virgo will be vastly different from Venus in Leo.  Venus in Leo was all about fun, romance, flirting and generosity to the point of extravagance.  Venus in Virgo is considered to be in its sign of fall because it is exalted in Pisces, but Venus in Virgo has its merits.  Venus in Virgo is in an earth sign, so love will be expressed through practical means and gestures: handling detailed work, doing errands and just plain being there.  It is not flashy or dramatic.  Virgo has a strong theme of service to others and rendering service to others is one of the ways Venus in Virgo expresses love.  The only downside with Venus in Virgo that we need to be mindful of is a tendency to be too critical of or picky with our partners.  Venus will leave Virgo on October 14, 2017 and enter Libra then.  Venus rules Libra and Taurus, so it will be a lot more comfortable and social there.  But this year in particular, let’s use the Venus in Virgo energy to render service to others.

The new moon in 27 degrees of Virgo occurs at 1:30 a. m. on the east coast of the United States. New moons are a time of new beginnings and setting new intentions.  This new moon falls in my 12^th house, but wherever 27 degrees of Virgo falls in your chart is the area of life where you will want to set new intentions.  This new moon has a lot of positive aspects surrounding it.  We are still in the throes of a Grand Fire Trine involving the north node in 23 degrees of Leo, Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius and Uranus in 27 degrees of Aries.  Grand trines represent the most positive qualities of the element involved and a grand trine in fire is forward looking, inspiring and creative.

There is also a great deal of mutable energy involved in this new moon.  We have the posse of planets in Virgo, but we also have Neptune and Chiron in Pisces, which are also activated during this new moon.  Mutable signs are renowned for their flexibility and adaptability, their literal ability to go with the flow.  Neptune in Pisces will be opposing Mercury in Virgo during this new moon, which will fuel our creativity and imagination. The new moon in 27 degrees of Virgo will also be in direct opposition to Chiron in 27 degrees of Pisces, which can help heal old wounds.  The trick with the opposition to Chiron is to surrender and accept those wounds.  If we do this, we are actually withdrawing the energy required for maintaining them in our lives and not feeding them.  Both personally and professionally the theme of surrender has emerged for me this past week. My clients are feeling it and so am I.  Sometimes we just need to surrender the need to control the outcome and let go of the past as much as possible.  The third mutable sign of Sagittarius features prominently too because Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius forms a T-square with the moon and Chiron.  A new moon in Virgo is also a good time for establishing a new health regime, especially if it falls in your 6^th house. Don’t be afraid to try natural remedies for healing or complementary methods of healing, like acupuncture or Reiki.

Mercury Moves into Virgo as Saturn and Pluto Get Busy Stirring the Astrological Pot

Mercury, which is FINALLY DIRECT (drumroll, please) is moving back into the sign of Virgo on September 9, 2017 and it stays in Virgo until September 29, 2017.  And on September 19, 2017, when it hits 11 degrees of Virgo, the degree of Mercury’s retrograde station on August 12^th, we finally clear the Mercury Retrograde shadow.  But I think that many of us are feeling relief already.

Mercury is joining the sun and Mars in Virgo, which entered Virgo on September 5, 2017, inspiring me to tweet:

Venus will join them on September 19^th, which is ironically the day Mercury clears its retrograde shadow.

Think back to what was going on in your life in late July and early August when Mercury was last in Virgo.  Anything that was unresolved can now be worked through as we all have the opportunity for a do-over.  Mercury is very comfortable in its home sign of Virgo (its other home sign is Gemini) and it can feel free to do its thing, which includes analyzing, problem solving, focusing on the details and being precise in speech, thought and process. Our minds are sharper and we are able to communicate with others more effectively. Mercury in Virgo is also very practical, due in no small part to its earth sign placement. It may not be as much fun as Mercury in Leo, but at least it is productive.  And it’s lacking the drama of Mercury in Leo.  It’s not a bad time to be of service to others, which is also Virgo’s domain.  Don’t be afraid to speak out or send out an email or even write a letter about a cause that is dear to your heart.

But with Mercury in Virgo we do need to be mindful of the tendency to be too critical of others or become too picky.  The other potential downfall with Mercury in Virgo is the tendency to block off our creativity because we are so focused and precise. The most productive way to channel that Mercury in Virgo energy is to learn something new by taking a class or reading a book or seeing a movie that sparks your creativity.

Pluto in Capricorn is finishing up its retrograde stint that began on April 20, 2017.  It will station direct on September 29, 2017 in 16 degrees of Capricorn, but it is still pretty busy these days.  On September 8, 2017, Mars in 1 degree of Virgo forms a challenging aspect called a semi-square with Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn.  Most of us are very familiar with the blocked energy associated with a square aspect, which occurs when two planets are 90 degrees apart.  Well, a semi-square is exactly what it sounds like: two planets 45 degrees apart.  It also represents deeply blocked energy, but while the square aspect tends to occur on an internal level, a semi-square can manifest as external events.  When Mars and Pluto collide in this kind of aspect, some ugly confrontations are possible.

Mark your calendars for September 9, 2017 because Pluto is the recipient of two other major aspects.  Venus in 16 degrees of Leo forms a challenging, irritating, annoying inconjunct with Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn.  The theme with this aspect is that adjustments are necessary on both sides, especially if there is a great deal of mistrust in order to reach common goals.  Sounds a lot like the current American political climate, n’est pas?  But the most optimistic aspect that occurs on September 9^th occurs when the sun in 16 degrees of Virgo trines Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn.  This is a very supportive aspect that can strengthen our sense of purpose and help us accomplish our goals.  So work it for all its worth.

Saturn in Sagittarius gets busy on September 12^th and 13^th.  On September 12^th Venus in 20 degrees of Leo trines Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius and this is a very favorable aspect for making a dramatic commitment.  On September 13^th, the sun in 20 degrees of Virgo squares off with Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius and this is one is not so much fun.  It can feel frustrating and present obstacles but it does help ground us.  And at least Saturn is direct these days, so its challenging aspects move on more quickly.

Mercury Stations Direct in Leo, Mars Enters Virgo and a Full Moon in Pisces

It may be September, but the effects of the August eclipses are still with us. Retrograde Mercury in Virgo slipped back into Leo on August 31^st, inspiring me to tweet:

Mercury is on the move, and we are all waiting with baited breath for it to station direct in 28 degrees of Leo on September 5, 2017 at 7:29 a.m. Of course, we know that Mercury retrograde is not out of its shadow until September 19^th, but we should start feeling some relief and the ability to move forward somewhat when Mercury stations direct.  The communications bottleneck should start lifting.

Mercury and Mars in Leo have one last tango together before Mars moves into Virgo on September 5^th at 5:35 a.m. They are conjunct in Leo.  This aspect is rekindling the energy of the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse that will remain very active for at least the first ten days of September.  Mars and Mercury are also conjunct the north node in 23 degrees of Leo on September 5^th, which intensifies the inspiration to move forward on our collective destiny.  We have a Grand Fire Trine on September 5^th which involves Saturn in 21 degrees of Sagittarius, retrograde Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries, Mercury in 28 degrees of Leo and the north node in 23 degrees of Leo.  Inspiration. Impulsiveness and creativity should be flowing freely with this configuration.

What can we expect when Mars enters the earth sign of Virgo?  Mars in Virgo has a passion for details and possesses an abundance of workhorse energy.  It’s a big change from Mars in Leo, which had a passion for drama, romance and creativity. Mars in Virgo is practical and efficient.  It has a very precise quality and is performance oriented.  The focus will shift to health, exercise and work, which are Virgo themes.  In a way, Mars in Virgo symbolizes the nature of the back to school mentality associated with the month of September.

On the following day, September 6, 2017, we have a full moon in 13 degrees of Pisces.  A full moon in Pisces has a dreamy, romantic, mystical, ethereal, deja vu quality and themes of unconditional love, compassion and emotional sensitivity.  The Pisces energy will be extremely strong because it also conjuncts Neptune in 12 degrees of Pisces. Neptune rules Pisces, so we may literally feel like floating away.  Engaging in some meditation, creativity and enjoying music and the arts are a fine way to cultivate the energy of this full moon. The flip side of Neptune is that secrets and a smoke and mirror effect are often associated with this planet.  I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of some scandals and secrets being revealed on that day.  There may also be some sense of closure involved in a major situation.

We have another grand trine on September 6, 2017.  This one is in earth signs, so it may help us avoid that escapist desire by grounding us.   It features the sun in 13 degrees of Virgo, Pluto in 16 degrees of Capricorn and Pallas Athena, the asteroid associated with justice in 14 degrees of Taurus.  A Grand Trine in Earth is very favorable for success, especially if any of the players fall in your money houses in your chart, which are the 2^nd, 6^th and 10^th.  I’m not seeing a financial bonanza in my chart with the sun in my 11^th house, Pluto in my 3^rd and Pallas in my 7^th, but I am not crawling under a rock that day, either.
