Venus Gets Busy in Aries before it Enters Taurus and Retrograde Mercury Moves Back into Aquarius

Some of us may still be floating or feeling like we’re on a high from the recent new moon in 4 degrees of Pisces on February 23, 2020 but there is about to be a marked shift in energy.  On the day of the new moon I tweeted:

The dreamy, feel good Piscean vibe is waning.  Venus in Aries will be squaring Pluto in Capricorn on February 28, 2020 in 24 degrees of their respective signs.  I have a natal Venus Pluto square and I can tell you from personal experience that this aspect will bring intensity in relationships via obsessive and compulsive behavior.  Any issues that have been hidden or on the disturbing side will surface at this time.

And since Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn are both still within striking distance of each other, this means that Venus in Aries gets to duke it out with Saturn in 28 degrees of Capricorn on March 3, 2020.  This aspect will definitely add to the stress level in relationships as control issues and limitations are triggered.

Venus in Aries will be testing relationships during its last days and if Venus in Aries is transiting either your 5^th or 7^th house, don’t be surprised if you feel like the need for freedom and independence are being pitted against the need for security and control.  Venus in Aries is very impulsive, so please be mindful of this fact and not make any major relationship decisions if you can help it.

But on March 4, 2020 Venus will depart the sign of Aries and enter the sign of Taurus, where it is truly in one of its happy places.  Venus rules Taurus and Libra, and is exalted in Pisces.  Venus in Taurus should be a much more stabilizing influence on relationships until it hits a curveball when it conjuncts Uranus in 4 degrees of Taurus on March 8, 2020.  This aspect could deliver some surprises to our values and finances as well as our relationships.

Mercury retrograde also slides back into 29 degrees of Aquarius on March 4, 2020.  Mercury will stay in Aquarius until March 16, 2020 but it does station direct on March 9, 2020 in 28 degrees of Aquarius.  Whenever a planet is in 29 degrees of a sign, it is referred to as anaretic because it is a critical point.  The energy of the sign is amplified and triggers are inclined to manifest. With Mercury back in Aquarius, we may be thinking more rationally, but we could also be communicating in a more rebellious manner as we feel extremely restless and crave change.  We may be inclined to push some boundaries.  Issues with friends and group associations could also come up for review with Mercury in Aquarius.

A New Moon in Pisces is Heavily Influenced by Retrograde Mercury and Neptune in Pisces

Mercury is officially retrograde as of February 16, 2020, when I tweeted:

I don’t know about you, but I am already feeling the effects of Mercury retrograde big time.  I have already experienced a Lyft ride that took me miles away from my destination because the driver claimed his GPS was telling him to go one way when I told him the other way and a package that was not delivered on time.  Fortunately both situations were satisfactorily resolved; I got home later than I had anticipated and my package was ultimately delivered 12 hours later than the tracking indicated.  But this is the kind of thing we can expect when Mercury is retrograde in the mutable water sign of Pisces, renowned for its nebulous quality. 

On February 23, 2020, we have a new moon in 4 degrees of Pisces.  New moons are considered to be a cosmic opportunity to set new intentions and start a new chapter in our lives.  But a new moon in Pisces can be simultaneously delightful and tricky.  I was watching Penny Thornton’s latest YouTube video about the new moon in Pisces and I couldn’t agree with her more about a Pisces new moon being a “psychic reboot” and a time of “psychic housekeeping”, to use her words because Pisces is the 12^th sign of the zodiac and is associated with the 12^th house, which is the unconscious mind.  It is indeed a time for processing what is occurring in our lives and with a new moon in Pisces, some of that processing could manifest through dreams and sudden insights.  Most people would agree that it feels like things are very weird these days and out of control as we watch things slip away.

Retrograde Mercury in 10 degrees of Pisces and Neptune in 17 degrees of Pisces are conjunct on the day of the new moon.  So this will be one very Neptunian new moon.  We may experience events that feel very synchronistic and we might find ourselves running into people from our past because Mercury retrograde has a way of bringing back people from our pasts. When Mercury and Neptune are conjunct, we can be very sensitive, intuitive, and psychic but we can also be elusive and evasive with deception possible.  Trust me on this one because I have Mercury and Neptune conjunct natally in my 1^st house of self.  And this new moon falls in my 5^th house and trines my Mercury in Scorpio.  So I anticipate that I will be feeling even more intuitive and creative during this new moon.

One important takeaway from this new moon is to remember that there is a reason that things are unfolding as they are, uncomfortable as it may feel.  We need to faith in the process and trust in it because panic is counterproductive.  Quite literally, the only way out is through.

The new moon on February 23^rd features a lot of Pisces energy with the sun, moon, Mercury and Neptune all in Pisces, but it also features a great deal of Capricorn energy.  Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all in Capricorn.  Water and earth are actually very compatible.  The Pisces planets represents our soul energy while the Capricorn planets represents our physical drive and need for grounding.  Neptune is invisible and its shadow side can lead to addiction, while Saturn is practical and needs order and structure.  Of course the shadow side of Capricorn energy can lead to too much control.  I’d like to float the idea that perhaps some of us need to set new resolutions on this new moon that involve setting boundaries.  The perfect use of this Pisces and Capricorn energy is to make our dreams a reality.  Mars in Capricorn is a real boon for this.  While many people associate Mars being strong in Aries and Scorpio, it is actually exalted in the sign of Capricorn.  It entered Capricorn on February 16, 2020, inspiring me to tweet:

Mars enters Capricorn today until 3/30/20. We are able to act in a more deliberate and stable manner when Mars is in the sign of its exaltation. It’s a boon for accomplishing goals. #astrology

On the day of the new moon, Mars in 4 degrees of Capricorn will be conjunct the south node in 6 degrees of Capricorn.  This may play out as feeling compelled towards old patterns, but we need to remember that the south node also represents karmic baggage that we need to release and integrate into the qualities of the north node in Cancer.  So we should take the high road and become more gentle, nurturing and compassionate towards others.

Mars Enters Capricorn, Mercury Stations Retrograde and the Sun Sails into Pisces

Get ready for another week of planets changing signs and the first Mercury Retrograde of 2020.  The fun starts on February 16, 2020 when Mars enters the earth sign of Capricorn at 6:33 a.m.  Mars remains in Capricorn until March 30, 2020.  Mars is actually considered to be exalted in the sign of Capricorn, so this can be a very positive influence in our lives.

When Mars is in Capricorn we tend to be more deliberate, persistent, stable, reliable and likely to consider future ramifications before taking action.  This is a big change from Mars in Sagittarius, which is very impulsive and has a tendency to fly off the handle because it is a fire sign.  But Mars in Capricorn is still capable of being very assertive and accomplishing a great deal.  Mars in Capricorn will be favorably trining Uranus in 3 degrees of Taurus on February 21, 2020 and this aspect is a real blessing in terms of pursuing our goals as we may be on the receiving end of some unexpected opportunities. There is a reason that the goat is a symbol for Capricorn—it is persistent, steadfast and able to climb up that mountain.  Mars in Capricorn is slower to anger, but it can become frustrated and its shadow side is becoming too rigid. 

But we could be facing a wild card vibe with part of this Mars in Capricorn transit. Mars has been out of bound since February 9, 2020 and will continue to remain out of bounds until March 2, 2020.  A planet is considered to be out of bounds when its declination is more than 23 degrees and 27 minutes north or south of the sun.  The energy of the planet tends to be a little over the top and out of control.  It has a wilder, more erratic quality. Mars in Capricorn will be conjunct the south node in 6 degrees of Capricorn on February 25, 2020 and this could manifest as some power and control issues surfacing in relationships and existing structures in our lives.  Don’t forget that Capricorn is also associated with government and financial institutions.  Mars is the planet associated with passion, desire and aggression so there could be some over the top reactions in the next few weeks.

Mercury stations retrograde in 12 degrees of Pisces at 7:54 p.m. on February 16, 2020 and stations direct in 28 degrees of Aquarius on March 9, 2020.  But we all know that Mercury entered its retrograde shadow period on February 2, 2020 in 28 degrees of Aquarius and won’t clear it until March 29, 2020 in 12 degrees of Pisces.

What can we expect when Mercury is retrograde in the water sign of Pisces?  Mercury retrograde in Pisces can enhance our creativity and spirituality as it infuses us with an urge to delve deeply into our spiritual lives to achieve a more altered state.  It’s a perfect time for music and meditation as well.  But the shadow side of Mercury retrograde in Pisces is a tendency towards deception and denial in communications.  And then there are the usual manifestations of Mercury retrograde: delays in communications and transportation, caution against signing contracts or taking a new job and breakdowns in electronic devices.  Try not to purchase a car, cell phone or computer when Mercury is retrograde unless your current one literally dies on you.  The best way of utilizing the energy of Mercury retrograde is to review and do research.

The sun enters the water sign of Pisces on February 18, 2020 at 11:57 p.m.  I know that I say it every year, but I always love the transit of the sun in Pisces.  Part of it is because I am a water sign and it’s nice to know that I will have the sun trining all of my Scorpio and Cancer planets, but another reason is that the Pisces sun starts in my 5^th house and it seems to give me a creative boost during the winter.  The sun in Pisces is a time of idealism, altruistic feelings, heightened imagination and creativity as well as intense dreams that provide more intuitive guidance.  And it does make use more compassionate and empathetic towards others.  But the shadow side of the sun in Pisces is self-pity, feelings of victimization and elusiveness.  Don’t let yourself fall into the martyr role when the sun is in Pisces.

The Pisces energy is amplified even more on February 20, 2020 when Jupiter in Capricorn forms a supportive sextile to Neptune in 17 degrees of Pisces.  These two planets are associated with expansion and spirituality, so when they align favorable we have an opportunity to get in touch with our personal beliefs and our higher power.  It’s an extremely favorable aspect for creativity, new possibilities and an overall feeling of interconnectivity.  It has a strong theme of idealist at work for the greater good.  And the good news about this aspect is that we get to reap its benefits three times this year: it repeats on July 7^th in 20 degrees of the two planets respective signs and on October 12^th in 18 degrees.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

A Blast of Fire Energy as Venus Enters Aries and a Full Moon in Leo

Piscean energy may have been the theme of last week, but this week we are dealing with an influx of fire energy. Granted, Mercury did enter Pisces on February 3, 2020, inspiring me to tweet:

But the vibe is set to change on February 7, 2020 when Venus departs Pisces, where it is exalted, for the sign of Aries until March 4, 2020.  Venus is not so comfortable in Aries, where it is said to be in detriment along with Venus in Scorpio.  Venus is much more aggressive in Aries and focused on getting its own needs met.  Love is spontaneous and direct when Venus is in Aries and we are more likely to be impatient and blunt in our dealings with others.  Venus in Aries lives in the moment and embraces the concept of “I want it now.”  Impatience is frequently a trait associated with fire signs.  But if you have been neglecting your own needs and putting others first, this is a perfect opportunity to engage in massive self-care and self-love.  That is food for thought during this transit.

We get another massive blast of fire energy on February 9, 2020 with the full moon in 20 degrees of Leo.  A full moon in Leo opposing the sun in Aquarius is a time to balance the heart (Leo energy) and the head (Aquarius) with courage.  Leo is very heart-centered energy.  This full moon will also be very potent because it represents a time for closure and new beginnings after the lunar eclipse on January 10, 2020 in Cancer.  The fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel its intensity more strongly than others.  This full moon will be conjunct my Pluto in Leo in my 11^th house and squaring my sun and Venus in Scorpio in my 2^nd house.

Some people could have some relationship issues coming up for review during this full moon because back in late November and December 2019 Venus was in Capricorn conjuncting Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn but now that Venus is in Aries it will be testing and challenging any relationships that formed at that time.  The honeymoon phase could be over and it will be time to face reality—does this new relationship have what it take to make us happy?

A full moon in Leo asks that we connect with our own inner fire and our highest calling.  This theme is reinforced by the fact that Mercury in Pisces is exactly trining the north node in 7 degrees of Cancer.  The north node represents our soul’s destiny and this trine aspect affords us the opportunity to express ourselves in a compassionate and caring manner. The full moon in Leo is also trining Mars in 24 degrees of Sagittarius, which imbues us with the courage and initiative to make a move.  Most of us are feeling like we need to do something to change the circumstances in our lives and this full moon can put us more in touch with our instincts and this nice little trine between the moon and Mars makes it easier for us to be more assertive.

The full moon in 20 degrees of Leo is also inconjunct Neptune in 17 degrees of Pisces, which increases our emotional sensitivity but could present us with some conflicting emotions that lead to confusion and tension.  Relationship tension could escalate to a crisis point where we just want to escape.  The moon inconjunct Neptune could also lead us to substance abuse as an escape mechanism from all of this tension, so be mindful of that.  The best use of this energy is to channel the higher vibration of Neptune of faith and trust.  Tap into that spiritual vibe if you can.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
