Venus Trines Jupiter and Mars Enters Aquarius

The Coronavirus continues to influence every area of our life and as an astrologer I am always looking to the planets for insight and hope.  On March 27, 2020, Venus in Taurus trines Jupiter in Capricorn in 23 degrees of their respective signs.  This is an especially delightful aspect because it tends to attract optimism, good cheer, luck, and has a tendency to bring love and harmony to relationships.

I have high hopes for this aspect because the moon in Taurus is sextiling both Mercury and Neptune in Pisces on the 27^th, which holds the potential for some good news to be announced.  I have this aspect natally with my natal Venus in Scorpio trining my Jupiter in Cancer.  I can tell you from personal experience that it confers the qualities of creativity, honesty, loyalty and a strong moral compass.  It also makes you very fond of the good life to the point that it gives a keen appreciation of the finer things in life like the arts, music, and socializing.  And I find it supremely ironic that we are feeling extremely blocked right now in terms of being able to enjoy these things due to the Coronavirus.  One of the perks of this aspect is that it tends to mitigate any hardships that we encounter in life and we really need that right now.  The Venus Jupiter trine activates my natal Chiron in 24 degrees of Capricorn in my 4^th house and my natal Venus in 24 degrees of Scorpio in my 2^nd house with a sextile from Jupiter in Capricorn and an opposition from Venus in Taurus.  Like everyone else these days, I am feeling the effects of staying home and am learning new ways to reach out to others.  I have been on Zoom twice in the past week and know that it will become a new routine in my life to connect with others.

Mars, the planet of action and desire, is moving into the fixed air sign of Aquarius on March 30, 2020 until May 13, 2020.  This could indicate a break for all of us after the heavy belt of Capricorn energy that has characterized 2020 so far.  Mars in Aquarius has dynamic yet erratic energy levels.  Don’t forget that Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, so we could be in for more disruptions.  Mars in Aquarius expresses anger in a more impersonal manner.  I know this first hand because I have a natal Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house.  But the silver lining with Mars in Aquarius is that it has a real team player vibe and we can approach problems from an intellectual and detached perspective.  The transit of Mars in Aquarius represents an opportunity to fight for collective endeavors and it may serve us well in the battle against the Coronavirus.  Mars in Aquarius is very future oriented and that makes it easier to fight for change and implement fresh new ideas.  Mars in Aquarius has a tendency to fight for the underdog, be more idealistic and will undoubtedly cause us to be even more reliant on the Internet and social media.  It is characterized by the qualities of being more humanitarian, radical, unique and revolutionary.  This transit of Mars in Aquarius may be our ticket to conquering the Coronavirus, so I say bring it on.

But on March 31, 2020, we do hit an astrological speed bump with Mars in Aquarius when it conjuncts Saturn in 0 degrees of Aquarius.  Mars Saturn aspects are very challenging, as I can attest to courtesy of my own natal Mars Saturn square.  A Mars Saturn conjunction can play out as providing the stamina and patience to complete difficult tasks because this one occurs in a fixed sign, and this could be a positive manifestation.  But the shadow side of this aspect is that it can ignite our darkest desires.  Mars conjunct Saturn can trigger feelings of anger, resentment or a desire for revenge.  A major theme of this aspect is to make us more cautious and conservative because it is accompanied by fear and tension. Quite literally, Mars conjunct Saturn can feel like driving a car with the brakes on. It has a tendency to put a hold on forward progress by blocking and obstructing it.  But fortunately, the effects of this challenging aspect will dissipate by the end of the week.  I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more news about the Coronavirus peaking during the coming week.

Saturn Enters Aquarius and a New Moon in Aries

There is literally no escaping the impact of the Coronavirus these days.  Many of us feel like we are living in Armageddon with no end in sight.  And it is very difficult to distinguish fact from reality with all of the mixed messages that are coming our way.  On March 15, 2020, I tweeted:

We are still under the influence of some pretty heavy Capricorn energy.  On March 20, 2020, Mars and Jupiter will be conjunct in 22 degrees of Capricorn. How will this aspect will play out?  We could experience more confidence, enthusiasm and courage in a new course of action to combat this global pandemic.  On the plus side, Capricorn is a sign that is renowned for its perseverance and endurance.  So we will keep on with our social distancing, hand washing and staying home as much as possible.  But as an astrologer, I can’t dismiss the fact that this conjunction occurs in the same degree of January’s Saturn Pluto conjunction and that many issues from back then will resurface. None of us knew how the Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn would manifest on a global level, but we now know that the Coronavirus was wreaking havoc in China then.

On March 21, 2020, Saturn enters the sign of Aquarius for the first time since the early 1990’s.  It was last in the air sign of Aquarius from February 6, 1991 through January 28, 1994.  Anyone born during this period will be undergoing their first Saturn Return. But Saturn will only remain in Aquarius until July 1, 2020 due to its retrograde period from May 10, 2020 through September 28, 2020. Saturn will leave Capricorn for good on December 16, 2020 and stay in Aquarius for 2 ½ years.  Saturn in Aquarius is an air sign ruled by Uranus, so we are bound to see and hear more about the Coronavirus.  Many of us in the United States were horrified when we heard President Trump say that this health crisis could last until July or August of this year.  I can’t help but think that Saturn is somehow involved in this.

Saturn in late Capricorn and even when it is in the first two degrees of Aquarius will be squaring the nodes of the moon in three degrees of Cancer for the north node (our collective journey) and three degrees of Capricorn for the south node.  This can contribute to a feeling of being attacked and living in a siege mentality.  We are literally living in a state of war that represents the biggest threat to civilian life since World War II.  If you ever wondered what it was like to live back in those times, this is probably pretty close.  We may not have rationing quite yet, but in the past week, we have seen libraries, stores, health clubs, restaurants, beauty salons and a host of small businesses close down.  Even supermarkets are open for shorter hours.  Basically we are only able to go out to supermarkets and pharmacies to get our essentials.  The economy is taking quite a hit as a result of this pandemic.  Saturn is also squaring Uranus in early Taurus and this aspect frequently manifests as stock market volatility.  It will continue through July 2020 and again in early 2021.

But we have to mindful of the fact that Saturn in Aquarius is a future oriented sign, a very different animal from Saturn in Capricorn, which is all about preserving the status quo. Saturn in Aquarius is more geared towards social equality, humanitarianism, idealism and individual freedoms, so there may very well be a silver lining to this huge cloud hanging over our heads.  A couple of days I was coming home from a walk and I heard the song “What the World Needs Now is Love” blaring from a neighbor’s home.  The song was originally recorded in 1965 by Jackie DeShannon, but I could have sworn it was Dionne Warwick singing it and she did record it in 1966. The 1960’s were a turbulent time and I actually interpreted hearing this song as a sign from the universe.  This is what I am talking about in terms of Aquarius energy.  We do need to pull together during this crisis even if it means that we can’t be physically together.  Aquarius is also known for its detachment and affinity for technology, so don’t hesitate to reach out on your cellphone or computer to call, video chat, text or email others to stay connected.

On March 23, 2020 Mars and Pluto will be conjunct in 24 degrees of Capricorn. This is very aggressive, dangerous and combustible energy.  We need to be prepared for power struggles, ruthless actions and perhaps more lockdowns and shelter in place orders.  Frankly, this aspect has me feeling very scared and vulnerable because it is exactly conjunct my Chiron in Capricorn in my 4^th house.

But on March 24, 2020, we have a new moon in 4 degrees of Aries. New moons are a perfect opportunity for setting new intentions and Aries is ruled by Mars, making it a natural warrior. Aries is a cardinal fire sign that is courageous and loves to initiate action.  It is also conjunct Chiron in 5 degrees of Aries, so it has a strong healing theme.  Hopefully this new moon will help us create new solutions for dealing with the Coronavirus and winning this battle with an invisible enemy. 

This new moon in Aries falls in my 6^th house of health, daily routines and service to others.  I don’t know about you, but my daily routine has definitely been disrupted and I am scrambling to adapt.  I also wish to be of service to others, so please consider either getting an astrology or tarot reading during this time or a distant Reiki session to alleviate your stress and anxiety as well as heal other conditions.

An Astrological Perspective on the Coronavirus as Mercury Prepares to Re-Enter Pisces and the Sun Enters Aries

March 16^th and the sun entering Aries on March 19, 2020, but the impact of the coronavirus this week have caused me to reflect on how this virus can be interpreted from an astrological perspective. 

I began by retracing the steps of this disease.  On January 7, 2020, the coronavirus was identified.  What was happening astrologically at this time? Plenty.  We were on the verge of a lunar eclipse in 20 degrees of Cancer that occurred on January 10, 2020.  On January 10, 2020 Uranus also stationed direct in 2 degrees of Taurus.  We all know that a planet’s energy is especially potent when it is stationary and this new disease would certainly prove to be very disruptive.  China reported its first death from the coronavirus on January 11, 2020, a 61 year old man in Wujan, China and Mercury in 21 degrees of Capricorn was opposing that eclipse, so the news wasn’t good. 

But Mercury in 22 degrees of Capricorn was also exactly conjunct the Saturn Pluto conjunction in 22 degrees of Capricorn on January 12, 2020. Many of us have wondered how the Saturn Pluto conjunction would manifest and I am beginning to think the coronavirus is a direct consequence of the Saturn Pluto conjunction and may very well be a defining influence of 2020.  Take a minute to think about what Saturn and Pluto conjunct in Capricorn represent at its worst: fear, paranoia and loss of control in the structures of our lives.  Neptune in Pisces has also been very active in 2020 and it is common knowledge that Neptune is associated with viruses.  The moon in Leo was inconjunct Neptune in Pisces on January 12, 2020, the day of the Saturn Pluto conjunction.

Fast forward to a few more dates.  On February 29, 2020, the first recorded death in the United States was reported, a man in his 60’s in Washington State.  Mercury was retrograde in 3 degrees of Pisces.  On March 3, 2020, United States officials approved widespread coronavirus testing.  On that day Venus in Aries was squaring Saturn in Capricorn in 28 degrees of their respective signs.  Talk about a massive reality check; it was becoming increasingly impossible to deny, ignore or downplay the significance of this disease.  It wasn’t just happening in China. 

On March 6, 2020, the number of global cases of coronavirus hits 100,000 and President Trump signs an $8.3 billion emergency spending package to combat the coronavirus.  There were some pretty challenging astrological aspects on that day as well: the Cancer moon was opposing Saturn in 28 degrees of Capricorn, indicating that some measure of balance be implemented to nurture and take care of people; the moon entered Leo and trined Chiron in 4 degrees of Aries which further emphasized the need to shine the light on healing; and Venus and Uranus were conjunct in 3 degrees of Taurus, indicating that there were sudden changes occurring involving money that affected the well-being of the earth.

We had a full moon in 19 degrees of Virgo on March 9, 2020, further emphasizing the healing theme.  Frequently full moons tend to reveal what has been hidden and this one was no exception.  News of more cases of the coronavirus continued to be announced.  On March 9, 2020, Mercury also stationed direct in 28 degrees of Aquarius.  On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global pandemic.  The moon in Libra was inconjunct Neptune in Pisces on that day, and it was evident that adjustments needed to be made. Whether we like it or not, we are all in this together as everyone needs to acknowledge that life as we know it is changing.  We are being forced to transform the structure of our lives in order to survive. Universities and colleges are suspending classes and adopting a policy of online classes and many events involving large groups are being canceled.  The coronavirus is triggering massive amounts of fear, paranoia and a loss of control over our lives as we scramble to adapt on a daily basis.

Mercury is direct right now, but technically still in its retrograde shadow until March 29, 2020.  Mercury re-enters Pisces on March 16, 2020 and stays there until April 11, 2020.  Mercury is considered to be in fall in the sign of Pisces, which means that we may experience difficulty in discerning fact from fiction and a strong desire for escapism during these challenging times.

But the sun does enter Aries on March 19, 2020 and that does bring a ray of hope.  The sun in Aries is courageous, motivated to conquer and is a time of new beginnings because it literally is the start of the astrological new year.  We all need that infusion of courage now to overcome the fear that is so prevalent.

We have been undergoing a heavy onslaught of Capricorn and Pisces energy.  Saturn, Pluto, Mars and Jupiter have been in Capricorn and the sun and Neptune in Pisces.  The sun moves into Aries on March 19^th and Saturn briefly moves into Aquarius until July 1, 2020.  Mars will also enter Aquarius on March 30, 2020 until May 13, 2020, so let’s hope that these two planets in Aquarius provide some respite as Aquarius is the sign associated with the greater good.

A Super Full Moon in Virgo and Mercury Stations Direct

Save the date of March 9, 2020.  It’s a very big day astrologically.  For starters, we have a super full moon in 19 degrees of Virgo.  It’s called a super full moon because it is so close to the earth that it is extremely bright and visible as it rises above the horizon.  The moon will be at perigee, meaning that it appears brighter and about 7% larger than a typical full moon.  But the piece de resistance is the second major astrological event of the day: Mercury stationing direct in 28 degrees of Aquarius at 11:49 p.m.  Time for a drum roll and a collective sigh of relief!

This is an extremely complicated full moon.  It is opposing Neptune in 18 degrees of Pisces, which also means that Neptune is conjunct the sun in Pisces. The sun in Pisces conjuncts its ruling planet Neptune emits a dreamy, intuitive, and visionary vibe.  But there is also the potential for deception and things that are hard to pin down because of its elusive quality.  The fact that the full moon is in the sign of Virgo emphasizes the theme of health concerns and right now the coronavirus is definitely playing into that theme.  In medical astrology, Neptune is related to the immune system and the coronavirus outbreak is a perfect example of that. Neptune has a strong association with viruses.

A full moon in Virgo is also about service to others, since Virgo rules the 6^th house.  The full moon opposing Neptune in Pisces cautions us to beware of self-deception.  Virgo is renowned for seeking perfection, worrying and being very efficient.  This full moon may feel very empowering for Virgos, but the rest of us may find ourselves needing to let go of unrealistic standards of perfection and dreams that are not practical.  I confess that this is not one of my favorite full moons: it falls in my 12^th house and squares my natal moon in Gemini in my 8^th house. The full moon in Virgo tends to make me feel out of control and powerless, especially with it transiting my 12^th house.  I acknowledge that it can be a very spiritual time, but it requires having faith in the unknown which isn’t always easy. There is a reason that the 12^th house is associated with surrender to a higher power.

This full moon does have some positive aspects going for it though. It trines Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn.  These trines provide us with the energy to declutter our thinking and work towards making our dreams a reality.  It’s really potent energy for manifestation, so don’t waste it. Emotional transformation is possible if we are open to going with the flow of the changing times.

Mercury stationing direct on the day of a full moon gives us an additional edge.  Whenever a planet is stationary, either direct or retrograde, its power and energy are intensified.  Mercury stationary direct on the day of a full moon can make us feel as if we are telepathic in terms of connecting with others. Mercury stationing direct may also lead to greater visionary insights.  Dreams could be especially vivid around the time of this full moon and they may offer us a more detached perspective on whatever issues are troubling us.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
