March 16th and the sun entering Aries on March
19, 2020, but the impact of the coronavirus this week have caused me to reflect
on how this virus can be interpreted from an astrological perspective.
I began by retracing the steps of this disease. On January 7, 2020, the coronavirus was
identified. What was happening
astrologically at this time? Plenty. We
were on the verge of a lunar eclipse in 20 degrees of Cancer that occurred on
January 10, 2020. On January 10, 2020
Uranus also stationed direct in 2 degrees of Taurus. We all know that a planet’s energy is
especially potent when it is stationary and this new disease would certainly
prove to be very disruptive. China reported
its first death from the coronavirus on January 11, 2020, a 61 year old man in
Wujan, China and Mercury in 21 degrees of Capricorn was opposing that eclipse,
so the news wasn’t good.
But Mercury in 22 degrees of Capricorn was also exactly
conjunct the Saturn Pluto conjunction in 22 degrees of Capricorn on January 12,
2020. Many of us have wondered how the Saturn Pluto conjunction would manifest
and I am beginning to think the coronavirus is a direct consequence of the
Saturn Pluto conjunction and may very well be a defining influence of 2020. Take a minute to think about what Saturn and
Pluto conjunct in Capricorn represent at its worst: fear, paranoia and loss of
control in the structures of our lives.
Neptune in Pisces has also been very active in 2020 and it is common
knowledge that Neptune is associated with viruses. The moon in Leo was inconjunct Neptune in
Pisces on January 12, 2020, the day of the Saturn Pluto conjunction.
Fast forward to a few more dates. On February 29, 2020, the first recorded
death in the United States was reported, a man in his 60’s in Washington
State. Mercury was retrograde in 3
degrees of Pisces. On March 3, 2020,
United States officials approved widespread coronavirus testing. On that day Venus in Aries was squaring
Saturn in Capricorn in 28 degrees of their respective signs. Talk about a massive reality check; it was
becoming increasingly impossible to deny, ignore or downplay the significance
of this disease. It wasn’t just
happening in China.
On March 6, 2020, the number of global cases of coronavirus hits 100,000 and President Trump signs an $8.3 billion emergency spending package to combat the coronavirus. There were some pretty challenging astrological aspects on that day as well: the Cancer moon was opposing Saturn in 28 degrees of Capricorn, indicating that some measure of balance be implemented to nurture and take care of people; the moon entered Leo and trined Chiron in 4 degrees of Aries which further emphasized the need to shine the light on healing; and Venus and Uranus were conjunct in 3 degrees of Taurus, indicating that there were sudden changes occurring involving money that affected the well-being of the earth.

We had a full moon in 19 degrees of Virgo on March 9, 2020,
further emphasizing the healing theme.
Frequently full moons tend to reveal what has been hidden and this one
was no exception. News of more cases of
the coronavirus continued to be announced.
On March 9, 2020, Mercury also stationed direct in 28 degrees of
Aquarius. On March 11, 2020, the World
Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global pandemic. The moon in Libra was inconjunct Neptune in
Pisces on that day, and it was evident that adjustments needed to be made. Whether
we like it or not, we are all in this together as everyone needs to acknowledge
that life as we know it is changing. We
are being forced to transform the structure of our lives in order to survive. Universities
and colleges are suspending classes and adopting a policy of online classes and
many events involving large groups are being canceled. The coronavirus is triggering massive amounts
of fear, paranoia and a loss of control over our lives as we scramble to adapt
on a daily basis.
Mercury is direct right now, but technically still in its
retrograde shadow until March 29, 2020.
Mercury re-enters Pisces on March 16, 2020 and stays there until April
11, 2020. Mercury is considered to be in
fall in the sign of Pisces, which means that we may experience difficulty in
discerning fact from fiction and a strong desire for escapism during these
challenging times.
But the sun does enter Aries on March 19, 2020 and that does
bring a ray of hope. The sun in Aries is
courageous, motivated to conquer and is a time of new beginnings because it
literally is the start of the astrological new year. We all need that infusion of courage now to overcome
the fear that is so prevalent.
We have been undergoing a heavy onslaught of Capricorn and
Pisces energy. Saturn, Pluto, Mars and
Jupiter have been in Capricorn and the sun and Neptune in Pisces. The sun moves into Aries on March 19th
and Saturn briefly moves into Aquarius until July 1, 2020. Mars will also enter Aquarius on March 30,
2020 until May 13, 2020, so let’s hope that these two planets in Aquarius
provide some respite as Aquarius is the sign associated with the greater good.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me
to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are
concerned about the spread of the infection. A distant Reiki session is the perfect
opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted
coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My
procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to
achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when
they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a
telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their
