Venus and Mercury Change Signs and a Pivotal New Moon in Capricorn

 

No one can say that 2021 is a dull year so far.  Like many people, I am still reeling from the recent attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 that occurred when Mars was still in 29 degrees of Aries.  Mars did enter Taurus at 5:27 p.m. but the damage was done.  Four people are dead as a result.

I have been trying to believe that 2021 would be different and better in terms of being able to build a new reality despite the challenges we face from COVID-19 and political unrest.  In fact, on January 3^rd, I tweeted:

Well, more planetary changes are coming this week and they do involve a lot of earth energy.  On January 8^th, Venus enters the sign of Capricorn.  This will be a marked change from Venus in Sagittarius as the economic realities are faced head on and we become more security conscious.  Never forget that Venus is love and money.  Things are about to get more serious.  In terms of relationships, we will be seeking a greater sense of commitment and people that support our values and ambitions.  Venus is only in Capricorn until February 1, so make the most of this influence.

Mercury is changing signs on the 8^th as well.  It enters the fixed air sign of Aquarius until March 15, 2021. Why such an extended stay? Well, folks, we have our first Mercury Retrograde of 2021 coming up on January 30^th when Mercury stations retrograde in 26 degrees of Aquarius and it stations direct in 11 degrees of Aquarius on February 20, 2021.

Mercury in Aquarius encourages us to think outside of the box and be more open to progressive ideas.  It’s got a very liberal vibe that we need during these challenging times.  But it has a rocky start with a square to Mars in 0 degrees of Taurus, which is likely to manifest in anger and arguments.  We could also see some passive-aggressive behavior.  The bottom line with Mercury in Aquarius is that we are seeking freedom and truth.

The next major event is the New Moon in 23 degrees of Capricorn on January 13^th.  This is a pivotal New Moon for a multitude of reasons.  For starters, it is hitting the Saturn-Pluto conjunction of January 12, 2020 that occurred in 22 degrees of Capricorn.  We are getting a major reality check regarding discipline and duty and the lesson to get rid of what we don’t need is being drilled into our heads.  It is literally completing a cycle that began with the Full Moon in 3 degrees of Capricorn on June 24, 2020.  Saturn may have moved into Aquarius, but it is still pretty close to Pluto in 24 degrees of Capricorn so the effects of the 2020 Saturn-Pluto conjunction are not over by a long shot. 

I loved what astrologer Penny Thornton said about this New Moon representing a new beginning coming out of challenging circumstances; that really nails the theme of this New Moon.  We need to work on our material and financial structures, detox our life, and make important decisions by acting responsibly. 

We are also dealing with quite a few tension filled aspects on the New Moon.  Mars in Taurus is squaring Saturn in Aquarius, which will make us feel like any actions that we want to take are thwarted.  I have a natal Mars-Saturn square, so I am all too familiar with this vibration.  And we have the Moon moving into Aquarius on the 13^th conjunct Saturn in Aquarius and squaring Mars and Uranus in Taurus, which should rattle some cages with authority figures because the status quo is being challenged by more progressive ideas. We can’t rule out the possibility of more protests and skirmishes. Not to mention that the Sun and Pluto are conjunct in Capricorn on the New Moon, which has a definite bully vibe with its quest for power.  However, I would like to mention that we do have a couple of more positive aspects on the New Moon that could save the day if we are open to them.  Venus in Capricorn is trining Uranus in Taurus, which can bring some pleasant changes.  I also have this aspect natally and it is a keeper, trust me.  And the Moon in Aquarius conjuncts Jupiter in 5 degrees of Aquarius at 9:55 p.m., which is a very lucky and fortuitous placement. It is literally our guardian angel, so keep the faith that we will survive and prosper.

On January 14, 2021, Uranus will station direct in 6 degrees of Taurus after having been retrograde since August 15, 2020 in 10 degrees of Taurus. Any urges that we have been suppressing for the past five months will erupt with shocking force. The wild ride will continue as sudden and unexpected events with finances are not out of the question now.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I recently learned that I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. When it becomes clearer that the virus no longer poses a threat, I will find a new space to practice. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
