New Moon in Sagittarius and Mercury Retrograde

 

We are headed into the last New Moon of 2023 and the last Mercury retrograde of 2023.  There is a strong vibe of Sagittarius present these days.  The New Moon occurs on December 12, 2023 in 20 degrees of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign and is renowned for its restlessness, impulsivity and impatience.  We want action and we want it now; we are not averse to taking risks.

The New Moon in Sagittarius on December 12 features a mutable mash of planets: the Sun, Moon and Mars in Sagittarius, and Saturn and Neptune in Pisces.  Mutable planets are more malleable and adaptable. Some of the themes of this New Moon include seeking freedom, personal growth, expansion, justice, optimism for the future and being more open to change.  Mars is in 13 degrees of Sagittarius on the New Moon and is really fueling and energizing us.  But the New Moon in Sagittarius is also squaring Neptune in 24 degrees of Pisces, which just stationed direct on December 6.  On that day I posted:

It is common knowledge that when a planet stations, either retrograde or direct, it is more powerful.  And we can feel the effects of that station for several day.  In the case of Neptune in Pisces, we can experience confusion but we are also open to the potential for miracles.  It can give us a spiritual vision of the future and more inspiration. Don't forget that Neptune loves to dissolve too. With Neptune direct, we could start to see veils being lifted. And with the New Moon aspecting Neptune, it is a perfect time to implement a new spiritual practice.  Meditation, anyone?  Please be sure to set your intentions and plant the seeds for a course of action on this New Moon. The New Moon in 20 degrees of Sagittarius is also trining the North Node in 21 degrees, which is very auspicious for embarking on an adventure that helps us to fulfill our soul's path.

A major component of a New Moon in Sagittarius is the ability to look at how others think and feel.  Sagittarius does have a tendency to think it is right and be somewhat judgmental, preachy and opinionated, so we need to cultivate the ability to tolerate the opinions of others. Be mindful of that on the New Moon.  Mercury in 8 degrees of Capricorn is trining Jupiter in 6 degrees of Taurus on the New Moon, strengthening our future visions.

Venus in Scorpio will be opposing Jupiter in 6 degrees of Taurus on December 9 and we will still be feeling the effects of this aspect on the New Moon. Venus opposing Jupiter brings more passion and intensity to love and money.  We might be making a big ticket purchase around this time.  It also encourages us to have some respect for others' opinions.

This can be a very future-oriented and hopeful New Moon. There can be a healing theme to this New Moon as well because Mars in 13 degrees of Sagittarius is trining Chiron in 15 degrees of Aries.  If you have any planets in 19-22 degrees of the mutable planets of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius, you will really feel the urge to strike out on a new path.

Mercury stations retrograde in 8 degrees of Capricorn on December 13, 2023.  This Mercury retrograde is a bit different because it occurs in two signs.  Mercury slips back into Sagittarius on December 23, 2023.  When Mercury is in Sagittarius, it can have a major impact on travel.  And since Mercury retrograde will be in Sagittarius on Christmas Day, try to keep the political discussions to a minimum to avoid major conflict and upsets.  A retrograde Mercury in Sagittarius is best utilized by reexamining our flexibility, adjusting our opinions and engaging in some humor.  Humor is one of the best traits of Sagittarius.  

The year 2023 actually began with a Mercury retrograde and stationed direct in 8 degrees of Capricorn on January 18, 2023.  Mercury in Capricorn will be favorably trining Jupiter in 5 degrees of Taurus on December 18.  This is a real feel-good transit which augurs well for making plans and experiencing more joy.  On December 21, Mercury in Capricorn will be forming a supportive sextile to Saturn in 2 degrees of Pisces.  This can actually have us questioning our commitments and responsibilities.  Perhaps we decide that we have overextended ourselves and we need to scale back for our higher good.

The really good news is that Mercury stations direct in 22 degrees of Sagittarius on January 1, 2024.  What a great way to start the New Year of 2024.  Mercury in Sagittarius is very future-oriented and gives us a real boost in terms of a fresh start for implementing plans for the upcoming year.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. I also wanted to note that in an ironic twist of fate, the latest variant of COVID is EG.5, with a nickname of Eris.  Sound familiar--the Goddess of Discord?  Apparently, COVID cases and hospitalizations are on the rise...

I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when necessary and staying home if you are sick. And get a vaccine. The newest vaccine is available and I encourage you to get it to protect yourself. I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus twice. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
