Mars on the Move and Capricorn Season Heats Up with a Sun Saturn Conjunction

Mars is getting ready to leave the sensitive water sign of Pisces and enter its home sign of Aries on December 31, 2018, but before it does, it conjuncts Chiron in Pisces on December 29, 2018.  When Mars conjuncts Chiron in Pisces, it can bring about a healing of our masculine side so that we dissolve confusion about asserting ourselves without using force or anger.  With this conjunction in Pisces, it will also help us acknowledge our vulnerability and hopefully act in a more compassionate manner.

While Mars is definitely more comfortable in the sign of Aries, there have been some perks to having it in Pisces.  Christmas week featured Mars in Pisces trining the north node in Cancer.  When Mars is favorably aspecting the nodes of the moon (and if it was trining the north node in Cancer, it was also forming a supportive sextile to the south node in Capricorn).  The north node represents our future while the south node represents our past. Mars favorably aspecting the nodes of the moon can burn through the fog and open new doors that make it possible for frozen or stuck family dynamics to melt and experience some genuine healing.

I don’t know about you but I sensed a lighter vibration around Christmas this year.  Maybe it was that Leo moon trining both Mercury and Jupiter in Sagittarius, but it certainly felt more cheery.  On Christmas Day I tweeted:

Mars will enters Aries at 9:20 p.m. on December 31, 2018 in time to help us ring in the new year of 2019.  It will leave Aries on February 14, 2019 and enter the Venus ruled sign of Taurus, which is very fitting for Valentine’s Day.

Mars rules the signs of Aries and Scorpio, so it will feel right at home in Aries.  I was intrigued by the fact that the year 2018 began with Mars in Scorpio and ends in the sign of Aries.  Do you think that the universe is trying to tell us something?  Mars will really be feeling its oats in Aries as its power is boosted and the energy will be spontaneous and forward looking.  We may also find ourselves feeling more courageous, competitive and self-confident.  But be aware that the shadow side of Mars in Aries can lead to greater levels of impatience, arrogance, impulsiveness and self-centeredness.  But it will start the New Year off with a welcome and much needed surge of energy.

Capricorn season will be even more intense when we experience the annual Sun Saturn conjunction in 11 degrees of Capricorn on January 2, 2019.  We already have the sun, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, but when the sun conjuncts Saturn, Capricorn’s ruling planet, the Capricorn energy will be amplified.  When the sun conjuncts Saturn, hard work, discipline and patience will be required.  This aspect can bring rewards for hard work and recognition for previous efforts, but it can also bring feelings of isolation, insecurity and hardship.  I’m just warning you that feelings of isolation might creep up on this day as the structures of your life may require some attention.

I am all too familiar with the nature of the sun conjunct Saturn, as I have it natally in my chart. My Saturn is in the sign of Scorpio, but Saturn conjunct the sun has a very Capricorn vibe.  Saturn is in my 1^st house, and this has manifested for me in feeling restricted, being my own harshest critic and having a shy and reserved personality.  But it has also made me very conscientious and responsible, so be aware that Saturn is not all bad. While it may have a very somber tone, it's also a very grounding influence.

Happy New Year, everyone!

The Sun Enters Capricorn for the Winter Solstice and a Full Moon in Cancer

The sun will enter the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn on December 21, 2018 at 5:23 p.m. on the east coast of the United States and this marks the official start of winter, or the Winter Solstice.  The sun appears to be standing still and this day will be the shortest day and longest night of the year.  The sun in Capricorn has a very different vibe from the sun in Sagittarius.  When the sun is transiting Capricorn, it is time to get more serious, set boundaries, make a business plan and take care of your teeth and bones because Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.

We do have some pretty sweet astrological aspects on December 21^st to help us deal with the lack of sunlight.  Venus in 13 degrees of Scorpio is trining Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces and this adds themes of love and harmony to the day.  It also favors healing and releasing darker emotions so that we can experience more emotional and spiritual intimacy.

Mars in Pisces has been a key player in activating the healing theme that has been prevalent and will continue through the end of 2018.  On December 17, 2018 Mars in Pisces was sextiling Pluto in Capricorn, inspiring me to tweet:

Mars in Pisces has also been involved in a conjunction to Neptune in Pisces for much of December.  This aspect can play out in a myriad of ways: if we take the high road, we can direct our energy into a more spiritual practice and act with more compassion. But the darker side of a Mars Neptune conjunction can also manifest in more scandals and secrets coming out.

Mercury and Jupiter are conjunct in 9 degrees of Sagittarius on December 21, 2018.  If nothing else, this aspect should give you a boost of holiday spirit because Jupiter literally is the Santa Claus of planets, magnifying anything it touches.  It has a very inspirational vibration and can be overly optimistic.  It can lead to overindulging or a tone of self-righteousness, but overall it is a delightful aspect to be occurring during the holiday season.

On December 22, 2018, we have a powerful full moon in 0 degrees of Cancer.  This full moon will pack an emotional punch because, let’s face, it, the moon is in its own sign of Cancer and there is bound to be a great deal of emotional sensitivity, strong emotions, moodiness, and sentimentality accompanied by a need for security.  Feelings will come to a head and there could be widespread global implications as well.  The theme of nurturing others is highlighted, especially with the north node currently in Cancer.  And Mars is also conjunct Chiron in Pisces, which further fuels the theme of healing others that has been pervasive during the month of December.  It’s certainly an ideal way to end 2018, which has been a pretty turbulent year for many people.

There is also a great deal of  cardinal planetary energy involved in this full moon.  In addition to the sun, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, the moon is in Cancer and Uranus is in Aries.  With a preponderance of planets in cardinal signs, this is a perfect time to initiate things.  Get moving and strike while the iron is hot to implement any plans you have been considering.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and pass on some good astrological tidings about Christmas Day.  The moon will be in Leo on Christmas, having entered Leo on December 24, 2018 at 11:59 a.m. on the east coast of the United States. It will be trining Jupiter in Sagittarius on Christmas Day, adding happiness, jolliness and good will to the holiday spirit. How much more Santa Claus can you get!  If you experienced any kind of emotional storminess during the Cancer full moon, the effects should have dissipated by Christmas Day.  The Leo moon is also trining Mercury in Sagittarius, which augurs well for smooth and harmonious communications

Uranus in Aries is on a Consciousness Raising Trip

Uranus may still be retrograde in Aries, but it is definitely not spending its last days (it re-enters Taurus on March 6, 2019 for seven years) quietly.  In the cardinal fire sign of Aries, it is literally doing everything in its power to shake up our consciousness and blast us out of our mental, spiritual and emotional blockages.

On December 11, 2018 Mercury in Scorpio was inconjunct Uranus in Aries, inspiring me to tweet:

We may wake up from some unsettling dreams this morning as a result of Mercury’s last day in Scorpio forming an irritating inconjunct to retrograde Uranus in Aries. #astrology

I don’t know about you, but I have been experiencing some especially vivid dreams lately.  And when I have these dreams Uranus is usually involved in some kind of aspect.  I had more of these dreams on December 8^th when the Sagittarius moon trined Uranus in Aries.  On that day I tweeted:

People from my past, some that have been dead for a decade, have been cropping up in my dreams.  Part of me attributed that to the fact that my moon is in my 8^th house of death and transformation. And I have come to realize that these people had a profound impact on my life and served as great teachers.  Sometimes those lessons were painful, but as the year comes to a close and I reflect on what has transpired in the past year and my journey, I realize that I am grateful for their contributions to my path of transformation.

Let’s face it, Uranus is on a mission to change us.  On December 15, 2018, Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries will be forming a challenging semi-square aspect (45 degrees apart) with Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces.  This is the 4^th time this aspect has occurred.  Previously it was exact on August 11, 2017, October 7, 2017 and June 6, 2018.  On June 6, 2018, Uranus was in 1 degree of Taurus. And it will be exact for the 5^th and final time on May 1, 2019 with Uranus in 3 degrees of Taurus.  The theme of this semi-square aspect is to challenge us to overcome the mental (represented by Uranus) and emotional (represented by Neptune) blocks that have been limiting our advancement.  It can literally give us the inspiration to manifest some growth in our lives.

I was very inspired by astrologer Pam Younghans’ interpretation of this aspect in her weekly NorthPoint Journal.  She commented on how this aspect is a wake-up call to see how far we have progressed in the last 25 years since Uranus and Neptune were conjunct in 19 degrees of Capricorn. She explained that this conjunction back in the 1990’s ushered in some changes that woke us up and opened our hearts so that we could hopefully become more spiritually aware.  And how anyone with planets around 19 degrees in the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn will feel the effects of this aspect intensely.  Personally, I can check off this box.  The cusp of my 4^th house is 19 degrees of Capricorn and my midheaven is in 19 degrees of Cancer. Pluto entered my 4^th house in early 2018 and my life hasn’t been the same since.  Avoiding transformation is not an option for me.

We have two supportive sextiles involving Saturn and Pluto before another major Uranus aspect hits on December 20, 2018.  On December 16, 2018, Venus in 9 degrees of Scorpio sextiles Saturn in 9 degrees of Capricorn.  This can add more stability to relationships which may been pretty rocky for many people this year. On the following day, Mars in 20 degrees of Pisces sextiles Pluto in 20 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect represents a true alignment of compassion and power so that we can achieve our soul’s desire.  Mars, Saturn and Pluto are usually associated with heaviness, so I say that we rejoice in the lift to our spirits that these sextiles provide.

On December 20, 2018, the sun in 28 degrees of Sagittarius trines Uranus in 28 degrees of Aries.  I have this aspect natally in my chart, and I can tell you that it makes one more comfortable in expressing their uniqueness. The sun trining Uranus will increase our intuition, bring fresh insight and encourage us to stretch out of our comfort zone and take more risks.  It bestows self-confidence about feeling different and unique.  It inspires us to wave that inner freak flag proudly.  Enjoy this energy and don’t waste the opportunity to expand your consciousness.

An Inspiring New Moon in Sagittarius and Chiron Direct

Mercury is now officially direct (YEAH) in Scorpio as of December 6, 2018, although we still have to wait until Christmas Eve before it clears its shadow.  But this is good news for the holiday season as we can feel the energy moving forward.

On December 7, 2018 we have a glorious new moon in 15 degrees of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign that is all about enthusiasm, optimism, exuberance, expansion and a desire to obtain more meaning in life in its quest for the truth.  It is perfect energy for holiday parties.  On December 6, 2018 the Sagittarius moon was exactly conjunct Jupiter in 6 degrees of Sagittarius and although the new moon is 9 degrees away from Jupiter, we will still be feeling its influence, inspiring me to tweet:

We have a super enthusiastic #NewMooninSagittarius today that forms a wide conjunction to Jupiter in Sagittarius. Strong themes of optimism and a desire for expansion and growth that began yesterday with moon exactly conjunct Jupiter. #astrology

For the most part, this new moon will be very inspiring.  Some of us may experience a desire to travel and if we can’t do it physically, we may channel that travel urge by learning more about different cultures and exploring new ideas.  There is also a great deal of compassionate energy present with this new moon, which is perfect for kicking off the holiday season. Jupiter in Sagittarius is starting to form a square to Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces, which can manifest in idealism and a desire for perfection but it does lack discrimination.  Jupiter and Neptune are definitely heavy hitters in this new moon.

The only potential fly in the ointment so to speak with this new moon is the fact that Mars and Neptune are conjunct in 13 degrees of Pisces.  This is definitely a higher vibration that is very conducive for creative and spiritual work.  However, we need to be mindful that the downside of this aspect is a tendency to over idealize people and situations, as well as a desire for escapism.  Addictions are more likely to be a problem with this aspect.  The fact that this aspect occurs in Pisces also can play out as acting in a passive aggressive manner. Mars and Neptune are also squaring the new moon in Sagittarius which ups the ante for deception and confusion to occur.  The best use of this energy is exercise some compassion, which is a strong Pisces trait.

This new moon falls at the beginning of my 3^rd house opposing my Gemini moon in my 8^th house.  I am certainly hoping that this new moon ushers in new means of communication and positive financial benefits.  But I know that I have to set some new intentions and make an effort.

We can take one more planet off the retrograde list on December 9, 2018 when Chiron stations direct in 27 degrees of Pisces.  Chiron has been retrograde since July 5, 2018 when it stationed retrograde in 2 degrees of Aries.  I think it would be fair to say that Chiron retrograde was a time of intense healing of old wounds, especially wounds regarding feelings of victimization for most people.  Healers, myself included, experienced a cathartic healing that can only occur when Chiron is retrograde.  Once Chiron is back in Aries on February 18, 2019 for the next seven years, the focus will be on healing identity issues. 

On December 9^th, Mercury in Scorpio will also be trining Chiron in Pisces, which can bring about some deep, transformative communications that contribute to healing. I find it kind of ironic that both of these planets have recently stationed direct in water signs after starting their retrograde transits in fire signs. The healing pace can be accelerated on December 10, 2018 when the moon in Capricorn forms a supportive sextile to Chiron in Pisces.  So all of that internal healing should start manifesting on an external level on these two days as Chiron prepares to leave Pisces.  When Chiron enters Aries, a new generation that was born between 1968 and 1976 will begin experiencing their Chiron Return.

For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed.
