Uranus Retrograde, A Powerful New Moon in Leo and Mercury Enters Virgo

Uranus, the planet associated with innovation, freedom and sudden upheavals and change, will be stationing retrograde in 10 degrees of Taurus on August 15, 2020 and will remain retrograde until January 14, 2021 when it stations direct in 6 degrees of Taurus. It is joining the party of retrograde planets that include Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune and Ceres in Pisces.

How is Uranus retrograde going to play out this year?  Well, for starters, Uranus is not exactly comfortable in the sign of Taurus because the sign of Taurus loves stability and focus.  It is somewhat oxymoronic for Uranus to be in Taurus.  It’s not exactly like a few years ago when Uranus was in Aries, and we experienced the Uranus Pluto squares from 2012-2015. Uranus retrograde in Taurus can actually be our friend by affording us the opportunity to sort out the surprises and changes that we have experienced this year.  We certainly have our work cut out for us in this regard thanks to the pandemic.  It can be a time of reflection.  I have Uranus retrograde natally and I can honestly say that it is not the most difficult planet to have retrograde; it’s not as difficult as Saturn, Neptune or Pluto retrograde.  In some ways, I feel that Uranus is rather empowering because it allows me to feel secure in being different and seeking an alternate path.  Of course, it also helps with my astrology work because it is retrograde in my 10th house of career and public standing.

There is a shadow side, however, to Uranus retrograde. Don’t forget that whenever a planet stations retrograde or direct, its power is magnified. Uranus is also associated with the internet, so there may be some upsetting disclosures revealed online.  And Uranus in Taurus could bring more extreme weather and earthquakes.  We are veering into hurricane season as well.

On August 18, 2020 we have an extremely powerful new moon in 26 degrees of Leo.  I can tell you that anyone with planets in the late degrees of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel its impact the most.  I am in that camp, as this new moon exactly conjuncts my natal Pluto in my 11th house and squares my sun and Venus in Scorpio in my second house.  I certainly plan on meditating and setting some new intentions on this new moon.

The stage was set for this new moon to be a game changer on August 17, 2020 when the Leo moon squares newly retrograde Uranus in Taurus. This could actually trigger a flare up of the January events that were associated with the outbreak of the coronavirus.  On January 11, 2020, the day before the infamous Saturn Pluto conjunction, the moon in Leo squared Uranus in 2 degrees of Taurus, which had stationed direct on January 10th.  We could literally be feeling like we are stuck between two worlds – the past and the future.

The main theme of new moons is to set new intentions and this new moon in Leo is no exception to that rule.  Mars in Aries will be squaring Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, so there could be a sense of external control coming up for many people.  I know that I just said that fixed signs will be feeling this new moon’s intensity, but if you have any planets in the late degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you are not exactly off the hook either.

The perk or saving grace of this new moon in Leo is that we do have a Grand Fire Trine involving the sun and moon in Leo, Mars in Aries and the south node of the moon in 27 degrees of Sagittarius. This is a highly creative new moon which is extremely powerful and passionate.  Leadership may be emphasized in the sign of Leo and accessing our own personal sense of integrity.  Since Leo rules the heart, it may also represent an opportunity to develop a new understanding of love.  So you see, I’m not kidding when I say this is one potent and passionate new moon.

On August 19, 2020, Mercury enters the sign of Virgo until September 5, 2020.  Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini, so it is a happy camper in Virgo.  Communications will become more focused, humble and down-to-earth.  We will see more of a detailed analysis of the facts emerge as opposed to the drama featured when Mercury was in Leo. Dealing with details and practical matters is about to get much easier.

The coronavirus outbreak is causing me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people are concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. When I return to my Brookline office I will be practicing Reiki with a mask, gloves, and medical exam sheets for your protection.  I will also have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available. In the meantime, a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205. The cost for distance Reiki sessions is based on a sliding scale of $30 -$50. For your convenience, I accept Venmo for payment.  I have also written an article about distance Reiki, which is available at:

I was also featured in the July 3, 2017 edition of Boston Voyager, an online publication that runs a section called Inspiring Stories about local entrepreneurs on its home page.  The Scorpio moon was trining the Cancer sun and Neptune in Pisces on that day, so my story certainly debuted under fitting aspects.  Please feel free to check it out:

I urge everyone to engage in massive amounts of self-care and follow the protective measures of washing your hands frequently, maintaining social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wearing a face mask when going outside your home and staying home if you are sick.  I repeat, you do not want to get this virus! I speak from personal experience and consider myself very fortunate to have survived Coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
