Mars and Saturn Facing Off Make it a Memorable Memorial Day

Monday, May 29, 2017 is Memorial Day, an American holiday where we honor our fallen soldiers and is also the unofficial start to the summer season.  But this year could prove to be quite memorable as Mars in 25 degrees of Gemini forms an exact opposition with retrograde Saturn in Sagittarius.

Challenging Mars/Saturn aspects are not easy, breezing flowing aspects by any stretch of the imagination.  These two planets are known as the malefic planets, with Saturn taking top billing as the greater malefic.  Malefics are generally reputed to be unsupportive and at times destructive. I am a true veteran on this score as the proud owner of Mars in Aquarius squaring Saturn in Scorpio. Indeed, having a Mars/Saturn square or opposition can at times make you feel like you are your own worst enemy and the war being waged is more of an internal one precipitated by external circumstances beyond our control.

What can we expect during this Mars/Saturn opposition?  The major themes of Mars and Saturn misbehaving are frustration, obstacles and delays. Saturn loves to test us by presenting us with delays and obstacles in our path.  And Mars is all about how we express our anger and passion.  We may find it difficult to express our anger or conversely, we may wind up projecting our frustration and irritability on others.  I have been feeling quite irritable myself since the new moon in Gemini on May 24th and I have been hearing similar tales from friends and clients.  We may also have the experience of feeling misunderstood.
If we suppress our anger during the effects of this aspect (which should only last a couple of days, fortunately), we might find our physical health taking a hit.  The best ways to deal with this bottleneck of frustration are to exercise and try to call on our reserves of self-discipline and patience.  Discipline and self-patience may be in short supply or literally feel like they are missing in action under the auspices of this brief transit.  If we do wind up exploding, maybe this is the time to consider to bring on the anger management therapy or classes.  The silver lining with this aspect is that the players are in mutable signs, not fixed signs, so the damages should be minimal or blow over quickly.

The new moon in 5 degrees of Gemini on May 25th did not aspect any other planets, but we did have one doozy of an aspect on that day that may have provided a buildup to the Mars/Saturn aspect. Venus in 17 degrees of Aries squared Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn.  On that day I tweeted:

Once again, I am a veteran of yet another challenging aspect.  My natal retrograde Venus in Scorpio squares my Pluto in Leo.  Obsession and compulsion rule with this aspect and we are not above engaging in manipulative tactics to get what we want in relationships or financial matters. Intensity prevails with this aspect and there is a tendency to experience confusion regarding love and power.  There is also a tremendous difficulty in letting go of relationships that are toxic, especially if this aspect occurs in fixed signs.  But a Venus Pluto square in cardinal signs may have made some of us eager to initiate change.

Not all is gloom and doom in the astrological world, though.  On Sunday, May 28, 2017, we have a delightful sextile between Mercury in 12 degrees of Taurus and Neptune in 14 degrees of Pisces. This aspect will promote inspiration and we can have more faith in whatever psychic impressions we receive being on the mark.  Enjoy this one!

The moon in Cancer on Memorial Day will be stirring up its own brand of trouble, though. Prior to the Mars/Saturn opposition, the Cancer moon will be inconjunct Saturn in Sagittarius.  Once again, the themes of my chart are being activated as I have this aspect natally, only with a Gemini moon and Saturn in Scorpio. With this aspect, we may be feeling somewhat insecure about what responsibilities we can handle.  And a Cancer moon has a way of making us feel vulnerable and defensive.  That Cancer moon also squares Uranus in 26 degrees of Aries on Memorial Day, so there could be some unexpected emotional events stirring the pot. But that Cancer moon has the power to redeem itself on Memorial Day when it trines Chiron in 28 degrees of Pisces, opening the floodgates for healing to occur.

Saturn Trining Uranus Helps Organize the Revolution and New Moon in Gemini Spreads the Word

Change and transition are in the air.  But we are indeed fortunate that Saturn and Uranus are playing nice in the sandbox together for the second of three flowing, historic trines.  The first trine occurred on December 24, 2016 when a direct Saturn in 20 degrees of Sagittarius trined a retrograde Uranus in 20 degrees of Aries.  Today, on May 19, 2017 we are experiencing benefits of the second trine with a retrograde Saturn in 26 degrees of Sagittarius trining a direct Uranus in 26 degrees of Aries.  The final trine aspect occurs on November 11, 2017 with a direct Saturn in 25 degrees of Sagittarius trining a retrograde Uranus in 25 degrees.

While Saturn has a reputation for adhering to structure and the status quo, it is definitely no slouch in the organization department.  This is the key piece and most delightful part of this aspect.  Yes, we all know that Uranus in Aries has been wreaking havoc and instigating change for the past few years.  But when these two heavy duty planetary hitters who are not known for their camaraderie or compatibility join forces and work together, it is possible to have an organized revolution.  No one disputes the fact that the world is in a period of transition, but with Saturn actually helping and not hindering the process of change, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Saturn trining Uranus can help restore order out of chaos because it allows us to implement change in a calmer, more orderly fashion with meticulousness and more patience.

Both Saturn and Uranus are in fire signs and fire is renowned for its courage and ability to see difficult situations through to the end.  We get an added bonus from the north node in 28 degrees of Leo, which forms a grand fire trine with Saturn and Uranus.  How sweet is that!  Remember that the lion is the symbol for Leo, and I think you will agree that Leo is a fierce warrior. The north node in Leo is pushing us to be more creative and courageous in fulfilling our destiny.  It is also functioning on a collective level these days by assisting Saturn and Uranus to change old structures and systems that are no longer serving our highest good.

The Resistance movement against President Donald Trump is a perfect example of all this fire energy in motion.  The north node in 28 degrees of Leo was in his 12th house conjunct his 29 degree Leo ascendant when former FBI director Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel to oversee the investigation between President Trump’s campaign and Russian officials on May 17th.  When the north node entered Leo on May 10th it conjuncted his ascendant and he fired FBI director James Comey on May 9th.  I dare say things will get really interesting when the north node is in 26 degrees of Leo exactly conjunct his Mars in Leo in June 2017.  I’m sure he is feeling the effects already in light of his recent comments regarding the investigation being a “witch hunt.” But I also think that Robert Mueller is a perfect example of Saturn in action trining Uranus.  Robert Mueller is unilaterally respected for his knowledge, experience and integrity.  He has been described as “utterly incorruptible” and is a perfect symbol for the Saturn figure in this ongoing drama.  He will be thorough and meticulous in his investigation and leave no stone unturned.  The truth will be revealed. What more can we ask for?

On May 20, 2017, the sun enters Gemini and we have a new moon in 5 degrees of Gemini on May 25, 2017.  Gemini is an air sign that loves to disseminate information and this upcoming new moon will be no exception.  My natal moon is in Gemini and I am very comfortable with its frenetic energy level. Mars is also in Gemini, so the vibe will definitely be breezy, creative and communication will be highly emphasized.  The new moon should feature a veritable birthing process of new ideas.  Gemini loves to share ideas, so this should be a very social new moon and very newsworthy.

On May 25, 2017, the day of the new moon in Gemini, we also have a cardinal T-square aspect featuring Pluto in 19 degrees of Capricorn as the focal planet.  Pluto in Capricorn squares Venus in 19 degrees of Aries and Jupiter in 14 degrees of Libra. With Pluto squaring both Jupiter and Venus, who are opposing each other, it should be an interesting day. A T-square stimulates drive and courage, but it can also generate tension and conflict.  It could have on impact on interpersonal relationships as well, because Pluto is also conjunct Juno in 17 degrees of Capricorn.  Juno is frequently referred to as the “marriage asteroid.”

Neptune Challenges our Reality and Mercury Re- Enters Taurus

The games are definitely NOT over. The full moon in Scorpio packed a punch on May 10th, but we still have plenty of planetary action to contend with in the coming week.  We had a full moon in 20 degrees of Scorpio on May 10th in addition to the north node moving into Leo.  On that day I tweeted:

But Neptune in Pisces kicked up the level of surrealism another notch on May 11th when it was squared by Mars in Gemini.  On that day I tweeted:
It’s no big secret that we are living in an age of fake news and a political reality that many Americans find hard to stomach.  Personally, I found it quite ironic that President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey as the north node was entering Leo and conjuncting his ascendant.  Many would question if that action was an example of sound leadership.  But the deal with Neptune is that while in its highest state it can indeed bring spiritual awareness and redemption, it is also renowned for bringing confusion, deception, Illusion and idealization.  Visualize smoke and mirrors, fog and a predisposition towards addiction and I think you get the picture.  We are literally in a Neptunian haze these days.  Don’t forget the accompanying theme of victim/victimizer to get the complete Neptune experience.

Mars in Gemini squaring Neptune in Pisces is triggering collective feelings of anger and fear about the hidden agendas that exist in our world.  But I have some hope that the truth can and will come out.  This Mars/Neptune aspect occurred right after the full moon in Scorpio, and we all know that Scorpios are great detectives, determined to leave no stone unturned.  And full moons are a time of revelation.  I am a Scorpio, and while that does make me Plutonic with Pluto as the ruler of Scorpio, I also relate strongly to being a Neptunian because Neptune is conjunct my Libra ascendant.  I feel everything that is going on around me; no escape for me!  Just this week I read a very enlightening article about Neptune conjunct the ascendant natally and by transit.  It was written by astrologer Jamie King and I highly recommend it.  You can find it at:

On May 17, 2017 Jupiter in Libra will be inconjuncting Neptune in Pisces in 14 degrees of their respective signs.  Inconjuncts are challenging, uncomfortable aspects that require adjustment between the two planets to achieve some level of functioning and peaceful coexistence.  This aspect will further challenge reality (Jupiter) vs. fantasy (Neptune).  Our Jupiterian enthusiasm in the fairness seeking sign of Libra may be clouded, confused and disillusioned.  Our ideals need to be adjusted more realistically.  Compassion, as represented by Neptune in Pisces, is a good thing, but be careful not to let guilt get involved in the mix.  We may find it hard to discern if other people really need our help.  Under the auspices of this aspect, it may be all too easy to overextend ourselves into the area of codependent behavior.  This aspect will serve as a trial and error exercise that hones our imaginative and humanitarian skills.   On a personal level, I know that I will really need to be mindful because Jupiter is currently in my 12th house conjunct my ascendant and Neptune is in my 6th house.  I need to remember that I can’t rescue the world, just give whatever healing people allow me to extend.

On May 16, 2017 Mercury re-enters the sign of Taurus. Mercury was in Taurus in April and stationed retrograde in 4 degrees of Taurus on April 20, 2017.  This is good news because it means Mercury will be clearing its retrograde shadow when it reaches 4 degrees of Taurus on May 21st.  Mercury will remain in the sign of Taurus until June 6, 2017.

What can we expect with Mercury in Taurus?  After Mercury’s extended stay in freewheeling Aries, we will be communicating more deliberately and our thinking will be more grounded and down to earth.  Our preference will be on the tried and true as opposed to the new and innovative.  This will be a marked change from Mercury in Aries.  Simple practical steps will bring us the best results during this transit.  The only potential downside to this transit is a tendency towards rigidity and stubbornness.  But it can also be viewed as a do-over for any unresolved issues from early April.

A Deeply Emotional and Transformational Full Moon in Scorpio and the North Node Enters Leo

Save the date of May 10, 2017 because it will be jam-packed with astrological news.  For starters, the north node enters the sign of Leo on that day while the south node simultaneously enters the sign of Aquarius.  This is a major event that has not occurred since September 1998 through April 2000.

The north node represents where our soul is going and the south node is all about our past and its accompanying karmic baggage.  With the north node entering Leo, where it will reside until November 7, 2018, our path will become more heart-centered as we become open to more optimism, joy, creativity and self-expression.  The north node in Virgo had more of a focus on service to others, but the north node in Leo is all about finding your time to shine, take risks and become a great leader.  The coming year and a half is not the time to get lost in the crowd!  It’s time to have fun and act on your passions, priorities and values.
What does the south node in Aquarius bring to the table?  A south node in Aquarius has rebellious energy, thinks differently, marches to the beat of a different drummer and has a tendency to be overly intellectual while blocking out their feelings.  I remember my astrology teacher saying many years ago that it can be a truly frightening experience for Aquarius when they do get in touch in with their emotions because they are so good at detachment. But Aquarius also possesses the potential for sheer genius and objectivity.  Aquarius is also associated with groups, a search for the truth and challenging the status quo.

We need to integrate the positive qualities of the Aquarius objectivity, search for truth and questioning the status quo with the Leo traits of passion, enthusiasm and generosity.  Maybe many of us will find it is our time to be leading a group while the north node is in Leo.  Leo is one hot, passionate sign ruled by the sun while cool, collected Aquarius is ruled by Uranus. This is not an impossible nodal combination to integrate.  Mahatma Gandhi, Princess Diana and Joni Mitchell all had a north node in Leo and a south node in Aquarius.
The bottom line with the nodes of the moon is that there are always challenges involved with integrating the wisdom of the past and stretching out of our comfort zone to achieve the soul’s destiny.  At some point, we need to release whatever qualities of the south node that are holding us back and no longer serving us. With the south node in Aquarius, we need to release any inflexibility and aloofness to embrace the north node Leo qualities of warmth, risk-taking and humor.

We will also experience a full moon in 20 degrees of Scorpio at 5:42 pm on May 10, 2017.  This is going to be one intensely emotional, transformational full moon.  A major theme of full moons is a cycle of completion and with this full moon in the most emotional water sign of the zodiac, there is added emphasis on releasing emotions and behavior patterns that no longer serve us.   But Scorpio has a secret weapon in that it can the most focused sign when it sets its mind on something; it is like a laser beam directing its light and energy.

There are a lot of planets feeding into this full moon.  Mercury and Uranus are conjunct in 25 degrees of Aries.  Mercury and Uranus have had an ongoing conjunction in Aries, but Mercury is direct this time around, so the mind is speeded up and we are dealing with an information overload.  Most recently Mercury was conjunct Uranus on April 28, 2017, but Mercury was still retrograde.  Anyone with planets in 23-25 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn have been feeling this effect big time.  Mea culpa—I have my Neptune and Chiron involved in this heady mix.  My Neptune in Libra is in opposition to this conjunction and my Chiron is being squared by it.  This full moon is also conjunct my sun in Scorpio, so it will really be hitting me where I live. There is a strong need to stay grounded during this transit, but the perk of it is that is a real boon for new ideas and perspectives.

We are also still under the influence of the Saturn in Sagittarius/Chiron in Pisces square. On April 30, 2017 when the aspect was exact in 27 degrees of both signs, I tweeted:
Saturn in Sagittarius squaring Chiron in Pisces is demanding that we live our truth on a deeper level.   And with the Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Aries trining Saturn in Sagittarius, our efforts can really pay off if we are willing to do the work to make those changes happen.  Mercury and Uranus in Aries trining Saturn in Sagittarius can give us a futuristic vision and a real sense of clarity.  But there is also the possibility of hearing some really shocking news around this full moon.

Mars in 12 degrees of Gemini and Neptune in 13 degrees of Pisces are also featured heavily in this full moon.  They are in a challenging square with each other, which can definitely remind us of some old pain, but with Mars trining Jupiter in 14 degrees of Libra, we have a spiritual boost in rising above it if we keep the faith. Hopefully, the higher level of this aspect will manifest in spiritually inspired action instead of massive confusion.

Venus Moves into Aries Again and Mercury Retrograde Ends

We may be in the midst of Taurus season, especially after the recent new moon in Taurus on April 26th, but we still have a heavy Aries influence with Uranus, Mercury and Venus entering Aries on April 28, 2017.

The moon in Aries earlier in the week was so powerful that it inspired me to tweet on April 25th:

Venus is literally exiting its sign of exaltation when it leaves Pisces on April 28th and entering one of its two signs of detriment, Aries.  This is not the first time that Venus has been in Aries this year, courtesy of Venus retrograde.  Venus originally entered Aries on February 3, 2017 but slipped back into Pisces on April 4, 2017.  Venus stationed direct on April 15, 2017 in 27 degrees of Pisces.  But we all know the drill with Venus in Aries; it is not a happy camper as relationships, values and finances take a huge hit.  We may find ourselves facing the same challenges that we had back in February and March, but now we get a do-over if we have any unresolved issues.  But don’t underestimate the perks of Venus in Aries: Venus in Aries is all about finding your passion and acting on it.  So strike while the iron is hot. Venus enters Taurus on June 6, 2017, so we have plenty of time to engage in a little self-promotion and entrepreneurial spirit.  Just think how sweet it will be when Venus enters Taurus, a sign that it rules and where it can feel truly comfortable in its skin so that the loving nature of Venus can be freely expressed.

On April 28, 2017 Mercury retrograde in Aries will make one last trouble making aspect when it conjuncts Uranus in 25 degrees.  It is kind of like the last call for Mercury retrograde to wreak havoc on communications, transportation and electronics due to the erratic nature of Uranus.

But there will be light at the end of the tunnel on May 3, 2017 when Mercury stations direct in 24 degrees of Aries at 12:33 p.m.  It won’t happen overnight, but when Mercury starts moving forward we do get a cosmic green light to move ahead with any projects that have been on hold for the past three weeks.  The energy is always a little bumpy when a planet stations direct or retrograde, so I always advise my clients to try to hold off on buying a new car, taking a new job or signing any contracts for at least a  few days after the station.  And if you are a subscriber to the theory of the retrograde shadow period, as I am, please wait until May 21st when Mercury is in 4 degrees of Taurus to do any of these things.  This is the official end of the shadow period because Mercury stationed retrograde in 4 degrees of Taurus on April 9, 2017.

I am anticipating a little turbulence with the final days of Mercury in Aries because it will oppose my Neptune in Libra in my 1st house and square my Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer in the 10th house.  And on May 3, 2017, on the day it stations direct, it will also form an exact square to my Chiron in Capricorn in the 4th house. So I am really looking forward to May 16, 2017 when Mercury enters Taurus.

If you are curious as to how these astrological changes are impacting you or seeking more spiritual insight into your life, please consider getting an astrological reading. An astrological reading can provide valuable insight and tools.  If you are not quite ready for a full blown natal interpretation or a solar return forecast, I also offer a basic astrological reading that will offer insight into your astrological DNA and the major themes in your life and delving into any pressing issues, one question astrological readings and composite couple readings that offer insight into the purpose of a relationship. And I offer shorter transit readings for three and six months. If you purchase a three or six month transit reading, I will .even take a peek at the eclipses of 2017. For my clients who can’t fit Friday into their schedule for a treatment or have difficulty traveling, I have also recently begun doing distance Reiki sessions for them.  I have a conversation with them about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages.  I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. If this appeals to you, please feel free to contact me by email at lindasim54@gmail.com or call me at 617-304-2205.

Additionally, I began seeing clients on Sunday afternoons in Coolidge Corner, Brookline for Reiki treatments on February 5, 2017.  I actually signed the paperwork on the office sublet on January 27th, the day of the new moon in Aquarius, and when I opened for business on February 5th, Venus was in Aries in my 6th house.  Talk about working that entrepreneurial spirit!   You can learn more about my expanded practice, including the hours and address at:

I have also launched an endeavor that will deliver my services to you at an affordable cost in the form of package deals.  I am offering four options: Silver, Gold, Platinum and a Tarot special for my tarot clients. Please check it out at:

Major Reality Check as Venus Squares Saturn and New Moon in Taurus

A major reality check is in store on April 21, 2017 as Venus in 27 degrees of Pisces squares Saturn in 27 degrees of Sagittarius.  This is the third Venus/Saturn square of 2017, so maybe this third time will be the charm.  The first square occurred on January 27, 2017 when both planets were direct; the second time was earlier this month on April 11, 2017 when both planets were retrograde.  At least Venus is finally direct this time.  But the bottom line with Venus squaring Saturn is that it tends to be very tough on relationships, values, finances and self-esteem.  Feelings of loneliness and depression are par for the course with this aspect.  And adding to the mix is the fact that Chiron in Pisces also interacts with this aspect. On April 16, 2017 I replied to a tweet by fellow astrologer Tisch Aitken:
Truly, the best possible outcome of this Venus/Saturn square in which Saturn in Sagittarius also squares Chiron in Pisces is to heal old wounds.  I think that this should be an interesting time for me personally as Venus and Chiron in Pisces trines my Venus in Scorpio and Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer, giving me the benefit of a grand water trine activating my chart.  And Saturn in Sagittarius is trining my Pluto in Leo.  It feels good to have these two heavy hitters working together instead of at cross purposes for a change.

Pluto stationed retrograde in 19 degrees of Capricorn on April 20, 2017, inspiring me to tweet:
I have no doubt that I have some major transformation and healing coming up as Pluto’s station exactly sextiles my Scorpio sun and forms a wide conjunction to my own Chiron in Capricorn.

The new moon in 6 degrees of Taurus occurs on April 26, 2017.  The new moon itself is not making any major aspects, but it will reinforce the Pluto retrograde vibe because it sheds a light on our darkest side so that we can achieve transformation and release our guilt, fear and shame.  And don’t forget that Taurus is the sign associated with strong, powerful leaders, which may be featured prominently in the news that day.  I wouldn’t rule out any stories of international conflicts with this new moon.

Uranus and retrograde Mercury in Aries are forming a conjunction on the day of the new moon in Taurus.  This aspect can bring some innovative solutions, which is definitely positive and potentially productive energy that resonates well with the theme of a new moon, which symbolizes new beginnings.  Uranus and Mercury are also forming a supportive trine to Saturn in Sagittarius, which lends a tone of stability to any changes that we wish to implement.

Venus in Pisces is a major player in this new moon in Taurus too.  Venus is the ruler of Taurus and it forms a conjunction to Chiron in Pisces.  This aspect provides an incredible opportunity for healing if we are willing to forgive the past and move beyond victimization.  Pisces is all about compassion and unconditional love, but it does have a flip side of playing the martyr and victim, which is definitely not productive in terms of spiritual growth.

For the most part, I am looking forward to this new moon in Taurus.  It falls in my 7th house and does form a challenging opposition to my natal Saturn in Scorpio, but it also forms an exact trine to my north node in Capricorn.  The opposition to my Saturn may raise some awareness of my responsibilities in relationships that I have been neglecting, but overall I think that the benefits of the trine to my north node will outweigh the effects of Saturn.  This is a new moon that trines my north node, which should be a boon for progress on my spiritual path.
