A Potentially Productive New Moon in Capricorn and Mercury Enters Aquarius

 

Well, the year 2021 is finally ending.  The dominating aspect of the year, the Saturn-Uranus square, hit for the third time like a tsunami for many people on December 24.  On that day I tweeted:

The dominating aspect of today is the 3rd square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. It’s major theme is the status quo vs radical change. Think back to February and June to reflect on how it impacts you.#astrology

Personally, I found it to be very tough (Saturn in Aquarius was conjunct my Mars in Aquarius in my 4^th house and squaring my Saturn in Scorpio in my 1^st house while Uranus in Taurus was also squaring my Mars and opposing my Saturn), and I have heard from friends and clients that it was not the merriest of holidays.  The battle between control and freedom was raging full force.

But save the date of January 2, 2022 because we literally have a fresh start.  There is a New Moon in 12 degrees of Capricorn on that day.  Be sure to set those New Year’s resolutions and intentions and be fully prepared to act on implementing them. On January 1, the Sun in 10 degrees of Capricorn was exactly trining Uranus in 10 degrees of Taurus with a strong theme of fast change.  Capricorn is the sign ruled by Saturn but it requires that we act responsibly and encourages us to pursue our goals. And since we are coming off the heels of the Saturn-Uranus square, we need to focus on our inner authority. This is a very future-oriented New Moon.  This is definitely to make those to-do lists and get cracking on them.  Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. 

The New Moon in Capricorn is trining Uranus in Taurus, so it will emphasize our urge for change.  But we need to claim that inner authority to plow forward to achieve our goals.  Don’t forget that Capricorn is a very goal-oriented sign; it loves to check off the box with its achievements.  This Supermoon New Moon (it’s very close to the earth) is conjunct my natal North Node in Capricorn, so I need to walk my talk.  The New Moon in Capricorn is also forming a tense square aspect to Chiron in 8 degrees of Aries, so there is a strong likelihood of healing solutions.  Just be mindful of the fact that there is still a likelihood of confusion and chaos on the New Moon because Mars in 14 degrees of Sagittarius is squaring Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces.

The pandemic is still with us, and astrology backs that up.  Venus is retrograde in 22 degrees of Capricorn on January 2, still conjunct Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn and Venus is triggering that infamous Saturn-Pluto conjunction of January 12, 2020 in 22 degrees of Capricorn.  How is that going to play out?  I wouldn’t be surprised if we started reviewing the actions of the government in the past two years and looking at the theme of betrayal, both personally and globally.  Venus retrograde in Capricorn on that aspect could bring up a lot of these issues.  We are all too familiar with the restrictions that the pandemic has thrust upon us.  There could be some financial news coming with this New Moon too.  Change is definitely on the horizon for 2022, so I hope that Uranus finally gets the upper hand in the battle that Saturn and Uranus have been waging for the past year.

Mercury is also moving into the future-oriented sign of Aquarius on January 2.  When Mercury is in Aquarius, our thinking and communication becomes more progressive, inventive and we find it easier to think outside of the box.  But it can also be quite rational and its shadow side entails a cerebral quality that can make us insensitive to other people’s feelings.  Just warning you…

We also need to be aware that Mercury will station retrograde in 10 degrees of Aquarius on January 14 and will slip back into Capricorn on January 25.  Mercury stations direct in 24 degrees of Capricorn on February 3 but it will be back in Aquarius on February 14 until March 9.  So we have a lot of progressive thinking to look forward to in 2022.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Saturn Squares Uranus Take 3, Pluto Takes Some Hits and Jupiter Sails into Pisces

 

The last exact square of Saturn in Aquarius to Uranus in Taurus occurs on December 24, 2021 in 11 degrees of their respective signs.  The first one happened on February 17^th in 7 degrees when both planets were direct and the second occurred on June 14^th in 13 degrees when Saturn was retrograde and the final one of 2021 features Uranus retrograde.  This aspect has been an epic theme of 2021 symbolizing the clash between the status quo (Saturn) and the need for revolution, change and disruption, which is the calling card for Uranus.  In 2020 the dominating aspect was the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn in January which ushered in the pandemic.  During 2021 we have been dealing with the pandemic and the conflicting impulses that Saturn and Uranus bring to the table.  Obviously there are structures in our society that are no longer viable but what do we replace them with?  That is the question with this aspect.

Saturn and Uranus are slow-moving planets, so this has been taking a while to play out.  We have had the entire year to deal with this aspect.  The first hit occurred in February, but with these two planets involved, you can easily add a time frame of up to a month before the aspect is exact and a few weeks afterwards.  I encourage you to think back to what was happening in your life around February and again in June.  I loved what astrologer Anne Ortelee said about the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn being ready for the changes in February while the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius hopped on board the change train in June and the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will be dragged kicking and screaming to make the changes on the third hit of this aspect in December.

I think that it is a pretty safe bet to say that many of us are mourning the loss of a way of life we had before the pandemic began almost two years ago.  We are talking radical change here and restrictions galore.  A major factor determining where you are feeling the effects is the location Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus have in your natal chart.  Saturn is transiting my 4^th house and Uranus is transiting my 7^th house.  I have had to make peace with the fact that I can no longer practice Reiki in person and have been engaged in distance Reiki treatments since June 2020.  I have come to a point of acceptance about that and am actually quite grateful for the opportunity to practice on a more flexible schedule.  One of my clients has actually dubbed it the ER – Emergency Reiki.  My astrology practice has been home-based, but I confess it was an adjustment to figure out how to practice Reiki at home.  My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over three years ago, so I have had to learn how to balance his needs with my work.  So you can see how both my 4^th and 7^th houses are impacted with this aspect.  And yes, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn of 2020 fell in my 4^th house conjunct my Chiron.

On a collective level, we will continue to deal with what structures need to be reframed and what radical changes are necessary as we seek to implement them.  I also loved what astrologer Christopher Renstrom said about the Saturn-Uranus square invoking the sensation of a square peg in a round hole, so it will be time to let go of whatever situations aren’t working.  The workplace is ripe for radical change.  How many other people have had to work from home during this pandemic? The year 2022 will be challenging because we also have the United States Pluto Return in February when Pluto hits 27 degrees of Capricorn.  More on that later…

Speaking of Pluto, it has been taking some major hits lately.  Venus and Pluto were conjunct in 11 degrees of Capricorn on December 11.  Venus stationed retrograde in 26 degrees of Capricorn on December 19, which means that Venus and Pluto will once again be conjunct on December 25 (Merry Christmas!) in 25 degrees of Capricorn.  Relationships will be tested but there is also the opportunity for pleasant transformation.  And if we don’t experience a magical transformation on Christmas, don’t worry because the Venus-Pluto conjunction happens again on March 3 when both planets are direct in 27 degrees of Capricorn.  I always say that the third time is the charm and it sometimes take the third hit for most of us to reap the lessons of a transit.

Just this past week the Cancer Moon opposed both Venus and Pluto in Capricorn.  On December 21 I tweeted:

On December 30, Mercury and Pluto will be conjunct in 25 degrees of Capricorn.  This aspect will bring more depth and intensity to thinking and communication.  It is perfect for getting to the bottom of troubles and is also favorable for engaging in therapy because it is easier for us to access self-analysis.

But on December 28, 2021, we have a real Christmas Miracle coming our way.  Jupiter is sailing back into Pisces, where it is a very happy camper. We had a brief taste of Jupiter in Pisces from May 13, 2021 through July 28, 2021 before it went back into Aquarius.  Jupiter in Pisces expands our awareness of spirituality and our compassion.  It gives us a more positive vision of the future. Jupiter will be moving pretty quickly through the mutable water sign of Pisces, and will enter Aries briefly on May 10, 2022.  It will station retrograde in 8 degrees of Aries on July 28, 2022 and will station direct back in 28 degrees of Pisces on October 28, 2022, where it stays until December 20, 2022. The last time that Jupiter was in Pisces was in January 2010 through January 22, 2011 and Jupiter will not be in Pisces again until 2033.

Jupiter in Pisces will also be conjuncting Neptune in 23 degrees of Pisces on April 12, 2022.  This is a really sweet aspect that will open up and expand the collective unconscious.  It should be a favorable time for music and art, but generally speaking we should be feeling more hopeful that anything can happen to improve the world.  When it comes to the pandemic, this can be a real cosmic booster shot in itself.  This aspect will be conjunct my Part of Fortune in 21 degrees of Pisces in my 6^th house, so I am stoked about it. Just be mindful of the shadow side of Jupiter in Pisces—the tendency towards restlessness, escapism, self-deception and denial.

A Powerful Full Moon in Gemini, Venus Retrograde, and the Sun Enters Capricorn

 

We have another big week coming up astrologically.  On December 18, we have the last Full Moon of 2021 in 27 degrees of Gemini.  Full Moons are associated with culmination and completion and having a Full Moon in the sign of Gemini means that information and the necessity for choices will be involved. And the Sun in Sagittarius is all about learning and exploring.   A Gemini Moon opposing the Sun in Sagittarius contains strong themes of personal knowledge and collective knowledge needing to find a balance.  The Moon is trining Jupiter in 28 degrees of Aquarius and squaring Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces, so I would not be surprised if big news surfaced about COVID-19. Jupiter loves to expand and do things in a big way.  It seems like whenever Neptune is involved, news about the pandemic surfaces.  When Neptune stationed direct on December 1, we heard news about the first case of the Omicron variant in the United States.  Mercury in Capricorn is also squaring Chiron in Aries on the 18^th, which only increases the likelihood of news about COVID-19, and the square could indicate that the news is not what we want to hear.

Going back to the theme of culmination, I urge you to think back to June 10, when we had a Solar Eclipse in 19 degrees of Gemini.  Did you start something new then?  If so, you might see an end to that project or relationship.  Many of us could be seeing a resolution of matters that were initiated back in June.  And it goes without saying that anyone with planets in the mutable signs of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius will feel the effects of this Full Moon the most intensely.  My Moon is in Gemini in my 8^th house, so I won’t be missing out on the action with this Full Moon.

The pace continues on December 19, when Venus stations retrograde in 26 degrees of Capricorn. Venus is retrograde until January 29, 2022 when it stations direct in 11 degrees of Capricorn.   But Venus remains in Capricorn until March 6, 2022, which is a long time for Venus to be in a sign that it is not particularly comfortable in. Venus entered Capricorn on November 5, 2021 and it entered its retrograde shadow period on November 17.  Venus retrograde usually occurs every 18 months and it is a time when we are forced to reevaluate our values, finances and relationships.  It can be hard to find joy and comfort when Venus is retrograde and there can definitely be a chill in love.  I don’t recommend getting married when Venus is retrograde, that’s for sure.

What else can happen during Venus retrograde?  Finances can be affected and Bear Markets have been known to happen during Venus retrograde.  I love what astrologer Christopher Renstrom said about Venus retrograde bringing out the Mean Girl vibe.  Betrayals and triangles in relationships can also occur.  Another common feature of Venus retrograde is to have old lovers return.  You know how when Mercury is retrograde you sometimes hear from people in your past?  When Venus is retrograde, exes can suddenly show up.  Obsessive and karmic relationships can also spring up during Venus retrograde.

But I sense that this Venus retrograde will be even more intense because it is colored by the conjunction to Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn on December 11.  On that day I tweeted:

Today is the 1st of 3 conjunctions between Venus and Pluto in Capricorn. This will cause us to review our need for affection and emotional depth as issues of power and sexuality are emphasized. Finances come under scrutiny too. Obsession, anyone? #astrology

I am taking this Venus retrograde quite personally because I have a natal Venus retrograde in Scorpio in my 2^nd house and it squares my natal Pluto in Leo. I know all too well that Venus and Pluto contacts can bring pain, strong judgment and difficulties in relationships. There is a theme of feeling like you will die or lose a vital part of yourself if a partnership dissolves.   Venus and Pluto will be conjunct again in 25 degrees of Capricorn on December 25 (Merry Christmas) and on March 3, 2022 in 27 degrees of Capricorn when both planets are direct.  I think that we can expect some relationships to bite the dust during this Venus retrograde.  But Pluto can also bring rebirth and I think we need to hold onto that belief…

Chiron in 8 degrees of Aries also stations direct on December 19 after having been retrograde since July 15, 2021.  Perhaps Chiron going direct will help us on our healing path with the pandemic.  Back in July we were just starting to deal with the Delta variant, but now we are grappling with the Omicron variant.  Chiron is known as the Wounded Healer and I am sure that most of us are pretty weary of this pandemic and could use some good news about the trajectory of this virus.

On December 21, the Sun moves into the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn for the Winter Solstice.  When the Sun is in Capricorn, our focus shifts to being more responsible, ambitious and geared towards achieving accomplishments.  We find it easier to embrace structures and work hard on those goals.  It’s probably no accident that New Year’s resolutions occur while the Sun is in Capricorn.  This can be a very productive period if we are mindful of the shadow side of the Sun in Capricorn: depression and pessimism.  Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, so responsibility, structures and a serious attitude are part of the package.

The coronavirus outbreak caused me to increase the number of distant Reiki sessions I do because people were concerned about the spread of the infection. I have decided to suspend my in-person Reiki sessions until further notice in order to practice social distancing. I no longer have my Brookline office, so all of my Reiki sessions will be distant Reiki sessions for the foreseeable future. But a distant Reiki session is the perfect opportunity to safely build up your immune system and if you have contracted coronavirus, you can be treated safely from the comfort of your home. My procedure is to have a conversation with a client about what they hope to achieve from a session, we set up a time for the session to take place when they will be in a state to receive healing energy and I follow up with a telephone conversation to discuss their experience and my perception of their blockages. I do miss seeing my clients, so I am now offering Zoom consultations/intakes before the session so that we can see each other. I have also incorporated a new technique with my distance Reiki treatments since I don’t always have a photo of my client.  I use a teddy bear so that I can scan and focus the healing energy where it is needed. Venus and Pluto Have Their First Hook-up in Capricorn, Mars Moves into Sagittarius and Mercury Enters Capricorn

 

The eclipses of 2021 are over, although some of us might still be reeling from the last Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4.  On that day I tweeted:

Today is the big #solareclipse in Sagittarius which is the last eclipse of 2021. There could be major reveals today with the eclipse conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius. But there is also potential for confusion with its square to Neptune in Pisces. #astrology

But the pace in December is picking up.  On December 11, Venus and Pluto will be conjunct for the first of three times in Capricorn.  And that is because we have an upcoming Venus Retrograde that starts on December 19 in 25 degrees of Capricorn and ends on January 29, 2022 in 11 degrees of Capricorn.  I will cover that more in next week’s post.

Venus and Pluto will be conjunct in 25 degrees of Capricorn on December 11.  What are the themes of Venus conjunct Pluto?  For starters, our need for affection and emotional depth will be intensified.  Issues of power and sexuality will be emphasized.  Venus-Pluto contacts also have to do with obsessions, compulsions and fixations.  This aspect can force us to let go of any unhealthy attachments that we have.  We could very well find ourselves dealing with unfinished relationship karma from our past.  Personal relationships to our values will also come under scrutiny as we determine what matters most to us.  So don’t forget the money piece of this aspect because Venus also pertains to finances.  There could be some losses as well as gains with Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn.

This aspect will repeat on December 25 (Merry Christmas) and again on March 3, 2022 in 27 degrees of Capricorn when both Venus and Pluto are direct.  The bottom line is that if you have any planets or points (as in Ascendant, Midheaven, or Nodes of the Moon) between 23-27 degrees of the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you will definitely feel the effects of this aspect.  Once again, I am caught in the crossfire of this action because I have my natal Chiron in 24 degrees of Capricorn in my 4^th house, my Neptune in 26 degrees of Libra in my 1^st house, and my Uranus in 27 degrees of Cancer in my 10^th house.  And I have a natal square between my Venus in Scorpio and Pluto in Leo, so I understand the obsessive and compulsive energy that these two planets generate all too well.  However, I am trying to approach this with the hope that the sextiles Venus and Pluto in Capricorn form to my Sun and Venus in Scorpio will be of some assistance during this turbulent transit.  I am holding onto the faith that some type of healing can occur. We’ll see how this plays out…

On December 13 Mars, the planet of action and desire, departs the fixed water sign of Scorpio for the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius.  It remains in Sagittarius until January 24, 2022. Mars was very comfortable in Scorpio because it is a co-ruler of Scorpio, along with Pluto.  When Mars is in Sagittarius, we desire more (Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and likes to do things in a big way), so we will not hesitate to act.  Vision and drive are plentiful because our actions are motivated by our ideals.  We do need to be mindful of the shadow side of Mars in Sagittarius, which is going overboard because there is more of a tendency to be impulsive and take risks.  Enough said.

Mercury is also changing signs on December 13.  It leaves the free-wheeling fire sign of Sagittarius and enters the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn where it stays until January 2, 2022.  This will be a major energy shift in terms of how we think and communicate.  Mercury in Sagittarius was very impulsive, honest and at times blunt. Mercury in Capricorn is very goal-oriented energy.  Our thinking will be more practical, sober and methodical.  Logic, order and organization are prominent as realism rules.  It is a time to live up to our responsibilities but we need to be aware of a tendency to have an authoritarian style.  The shadow side of Mercury in Capricorn is rigidity in thinking, pessimism and coming across to others as cold or harsh.  But we are not exactly through with Mercury in Capricorn because there is an upcoming Mercury retrograde that starts in Aquarius on January 14, 2022 but slips back into Capricorn on January 25.  More on that next month…

Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius Is a Real Mover and Shaker

Hang on folks because the last eclipse of 2021 will prove to be quite memorable.  It occurs on December 4 in 12 degrees of Sagittarius and is a total Solar Eclipse.  As I have frequently said, Solar Eclipses are like New Moons on steroids and this one is no exception.

This eclipse also marks the end of the nodal cycle in Gemini and Sagittarius.  The North Node of the Moon entered Gemini on May 5, 2020 and the South Node entered Sagittarius.  The Nodes of the Moon move into Taurus and Scorpio on January 18, 2022 so there will be no more eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius until 2039.  What are the themes of a Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius?  The sign of Sagittarius is associated with truth, wisdom, enthusiasm, beliefs and generosity.  This Solar Eclipse is also conjunct Mercury in 14 degrees of Sagittarius, so don’t be surprised if there is a lot of news circulating on that day.  It is also squaring Neptune in 20 degrees of Pisces, which can indicate some confusion over whatever news comes out.

Neptune recently stationed direct on December 1 after a five month nap and I don’t think that it was a coincidence that we heard about the first case of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus in the United States.  Neptune is associated with viruses and whenever a planet is stationing, it is more powerful. Mercury in Sagittarius was also inconjunct Uranus in 11 degrees of Taurus on that day, inspiring me to tweet:

We could be hearing some shocking news today with Mercury in Sagittarius inconjunct Uranus in Taurus. The filters are off and words might be blunt. #astrology

On December 4, the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius will also be forming a beneficial, flowing trine to Chiron in 8 degrees of Aries.  This is a positive influence for healing.  We can hope that its healing extends to eradicating COVID, but I am sure that many of us will gratefully accept whatever emotional healing that it brings.  But eclipses are renowned for bringing change, and this one is forming a rather uncomfortable inconjunct or quincunx aspect to wild card planet (and retrograde to boot) Uranus in 11 degrees of Taurus.  This aspect alone screams sudden changes, but since Sagittarius is a sign of hope, we can always have faith that awakenings and breakthroughs will also manifest.

If you have any planets in 12 degrees of any sign, I guarantee that you will feel the effects of this eclipse in a big way.  The Solar Eclipse falls at the end of my 2^nd house and opposes my natal Moon in 14 degrees of Gemini in my 8^th house, so I have no doubt that finances will be a huge theme for me during this eclipse.  I also have my natal Saturn in 12 degrees of Scorpio in my 1^st house and this is in a semi-sextile aspect to the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius.  Semi-sextiles are considered to be minor aspects in astrology.  I am sensing that my Saturn in Scorpio will hopefully reign in any impulsive tendencies I might develop towards finances during the eclipse.  Or it could place some restrictions on my finances.  We’ll see how this one plays out…

Since New Moons are also an opportunity to set new intentions, I encourage you to do so on this eclipse. Mars in 23 degrees of Scorpio is also forming a supportive sextile to Pluto in 25 degrees of Capricorn, which is a very empowering vibe. The Solar Eclipse is conjunct the Ascendant of the United States as the country prepares to enter its Pluto Return.  With the United States having its Pluto Return exact in 2022, there will be new beginnings and rebirth economically and spiritually.

It’s also important to remember that this is a South Node eclipse, and is 11 degrees away from the South Node in 1 degree of Sagittarius.  The themes of a South Node eclipse include clearing the old and letting go of old belief systems.  Fears and insecurities will undoubtedly crop up for processing and release.  Let it happen, whatever comes up.
