Sunday Bloody Sunday- Super Blood Moon Eclipse

Is the world coming to an end on Sunday, September 27^th at 10:51 p.m. with the total lunar eclipse?  This is a rare event, the first super blood moon eclipse since 1982 and the 4^th in a series of blood moon eclipses that began in April 2014.  Historically, blood moon eclipses have been associated with powerful changes, endings and beginnings.  Religious circles have had a tendency in the past to interpret blood moon eclipses as either an apocalypse or Armageddon.  While I doubt that the world will come to an end, I do sense that the world as we know it is headed for many changes.

This event is a big deal, both astrologically and astronomically.  While lunar eclipses are not that rare (just your average full moon on steroids), this one is a supermoon because the moon makes such a close approach to the earth that the moon, which will be visible, appears red or coppery.  The cycle of four blood moon eclipses began on April 14-15, 2014 in the sign of Libra.  The next blood moon eclipse occurred on October 7-8, 2014 in the sign of Aries.  The third blood moon eclipse occurred on April 4, 2015 in the sign of Libra and the fourth will happen on September 27, 2015 in 4 degrees of Aries.  The continuing themes of these eclipses pertain to relationships (Libra) and new beginnings (Aries).  I think it is fair to say that whatever story began in our lives back in April 2014 with relationships and new beginnings may come to a close or a resolution will be in order.  I loved what astrologer Jessica Adams had to say about blood moon eclipses tending to be about cover-ups.  This seems to be an accurate description given today’s political climate.  And we all know that eclipses tend to obscure things, so be aware that there may be temporary blind spots.  It could be months before the truth is finally revealed.

This eclipse is especially potent because with the Aries moon opposing the Libra Sun, lessons of cooperation and reassessment in relationships are at the forefront while trying to balance the Aries energy of individuality and self-determination.  Astrologer Molly Hall interpreted the theme of this full moon as “achieving balance between me and we.”  She definitely nailed it!

There was a major planetary build up to this eclipse, featuring Pluto stationing direct in 12 degrees of Capricorn on September 25^th.  Pluto has been retrograde since April 16, 2015.  Pluto direct will bring major changes and free us from places we have been stuck in by empowering us.  Mars entered Virgo on September 24^th and promptly squared Saturn in Sagittarius on September 25^th as well.  Mars squaring Saturn is all about aggravation, frustration and control issues.  Trust me on this one—I have a natal Mars Saturn square in my chart in fixed signs, and it ain’t pretty or easy to live with.  The saving grace of this Mars Saturn square is that at least it falls in mutable signs, so we may find it easier to learn Saturn’s lessons and not let ourselves get too frustrated in the process. With Saturn in Sagittarius, Saturn’s lesson will probably manifest as a test of faith with the square to Mars in Virgo.

So, the heavy hitters of Mars, Pluto and Saturn are featured prominently in the prelude to this super blood moon eclipse.  Pluto in Capricorn also squared Mercury in Libra on September 24^th, inspiring me to tweet:

“Communication can get sharp today as retrograde Mercury in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn.  Old issues & themes may resurface.”

Neptune in Pisces further reinforces the theme of obscuring information by opposing both Mars and Jupiter in Virgo.  Neptune wants creativity and some escapism, but we are all better off if we channel the Virgo qualities of moderation, patience and devotion constructively.  Easier said than done.

On a personal level, this eclipse in 4 degrees of Aries falls in my 6^th house of work, health and daily routines.  Next week I am changing my hours of Reiki treatment from Thursday morning to Friday evenings, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  So my daily routine in terms of when I practice healing in a work setting is definitely changing.  I am hoping that this results in an increase in business so that people will have the opportunity to de-stress after a tough week at work.  If you are in the Boston area, please consider getting a Reiki treatment at Acupuncture for Everyone in Copley Square to destress, revitalize and remove blockages to healing.  It’s a perfect way to start your weekend off.  Reiki is the most profound treatment for stress relief because it concentrates on CALMING your body.

Reality Bites as Jupiter and Neptune Tango While Mercury Retrogrades in Libra and Saturn Moves into Sagittarius

The period between eclipses is jam packed with astrological activity that culminated in some major turning points on September 17^th.  The day got off to an early start at 2:54 a.m. with Jupiter in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces.  Jupiter in Virgo is very service oriented but is also prone to finding fault and worries too much while Neptune in Pisces has a tendency to be reclusive and engage in escapist behaviors.  Under most circumstances, this aspect would be very challenging; hey, it’s an opposition, after all.  Jupiter in Virgo is also inclined to be judgmental and having the Sun in Virgo doesn’t help matters.  I have found myself to be very critical lately, both with myself and others. It may still be technically summer, but all of that carefree Leo energy feels like ancient history to me these days. 

But the Jupiter Neptune opposition got a huge boost from the moon in Scorpio that day. That Scorpio moon sextiled Jupiter in Virgo and trined Neptune in Pisces in the wee hours of the morning.  On that day I tweeted:

“#Scorpiomoon saves the day’s Jupiter Neptune opposition by providing determination to achieve spiritual goals.  Love that sextile and trine!”

It literally served as a ballast for those two planets that were engaged in such a challenging aspect and may have served to mitigate any damage, especially in the workplace.

At 2:09 p.m. on the 17^th, Mercury stationed retrograde in 15 degrees of Libra.  Many of us have been feeling the effects of Mercury retrograde already.  In the past week, I have endured printer problems and a frozen tablet.  And this was while Mercury was still in the shadow and hadn’t officially stationed retrograde!  All of the Mercury retrogrades in 2015 have been in air signs, and with this one in Libra, you can rest assured that relationships will be affected big-time with this Mercury retrograde. Be aware that relationships may need to be reevaluated at this time, but try to hold off on signing anything during the retrograde.

This Mercury retrograde is in my 12^th house, but conjunct my Libra ascendant. Mercury retrograde always feels like a loss of control in matters pertaining to communication and transportation, but I am particularly leery of this one happening in my 12^th house.  I also have the Sun in my 12^th house until October 10th, so I am more anxious than usual. I hope everyone backed up their computers and we all will have to allot more time to reach our destinations between now and October 9^th when Mercury stations direct at 0 degrees of Libra.

The third astrological hit of September 17^th occurred at 10:49 p.m. when Saturn moved into Sagittarius, where it will stay through December 2017.  As a Scorpio, I was THRILLED at this occurrence.  Having Saturn back in Scorpio since June after that lovely little reprieve with Saturn’s first foray into Sagittarius before Christmas 2014 has not been the most fun time for me or anyone else with planets in late degrees of Scorpio, so this literally felt like a weight had been lifted.

Now that we have all survived the transformative energy of Saturn in Scorpio, we get a major dose of reality with Saturn in Sagittarius.  Sagittarius at its most enlightened is all about truth, honesty, our life’s work and our belief systems. Eclipse Season is Here and the Game Changes

They’re BAACK—the eclipses, those game changers, are creating massive changes in the month of September that will keep us hopping. We will have a solar eclipse in 20 degrees of Virgo on September 13^th and a lunar eclipse in 4 degrees of Aries on September 27^th. The last set of eclipses occurred on March 20^th and April 4^th of this year.  Whatever story began back then will continue at a frenetic pace.  You may need a score card by the time this month is over.

Eclipses are very Uranian by nature because they have a tendency to bring sudden changes and unpredictable events.  The effects of a solar eclipse can be felt up to three months before and up to one year afterwards.  A lunar eclipse has a shorter shelf life because their effects are generally felt for up to six weeks before and after they occur.  Eclipses also have a way of distorting reality and things can get blown out of proportion.  Fair warning, OK?  Don’t shoot the messenger.

A solar eclipse is literally a new moon on steroids and can bring new beginnings.  The solar eclipse on September 13^th involves many complicated aspects.  The Uranian quality of eclipses is amped up even more by the fact that the eclipse opposes Chiron in Pisces and inconjuncts Uranus in Aries.  Uranus is a major player in this eclipse, no doubt about it.  We are going to need lots of flexibility and adaptability to deal with whatever comes our way. Jupiter is also in Virgo and it opposes Neptune in Pisces, so reality blurred may be a strong theme.

The big story of this eclipse is that Chiron in Pisces inconjuncts both Mars and Venus in Leo which are sextiling Mercury in Libra.  This forms an interesting aspect called a Yod, which has often been referred to as the Finger of Fate because it is a very challenging aspect.  Yods have a very Uranian feeling, as they tend to create situations which come up out of the blue and make a person wonder “Why is this happening to me?”  Trust me, I know all about this one as I have a yod in my chart involving my north node in Capricorn that sextiles my Saturn in Scorpio and inconjuncts my moon in Gemini.  My moon is in the 8^th house and a major theme in my life has been deaths in twos of family members in close proximity.

This solar eclipse is in the sign of Virgo, which is very health and service oriented.  Its opposition to Chiron in Pisces is bound to bring up themes of healing, forgiveness and the potential for falling into the victim role.  The most practical way to deal with this eclipse (Virgo is a practical earth sign, after all) is to focus on health, organizing and establishing new routines and schedules and trying to put relationships in order. Virgo is mutable earth, so we have a saving grace with that factor; it allows us more flexibility to roll with the punches.  Mercury is in Libra, but it is about to go retrograde on the 17^th, which will definitely put the emphasis on reevaluating communication in relationships.   We have our work cut out for us!

Remember last week I commented that the solar eclipse in Virgo would be sextiling my Sun and Venus in Scorpio in my second house as well as my Cancer midheaven while Uranus in Aries would be squaring it?  And that Mars in Leo would be trining Uranus in Aries on September 8^th?  I had absolutely no idea how the Mars Uranus trine would play out for me, but I sensed that the eclipse might bring some changes to my work life.  Well, on September 8^th, I received news that a new more, lucrative time slot would be available at the clinic where I practice Reiki and I was able to obtain it.  Starting in October, I will be practicing Reiki on Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. instead of Thursday mornings.  I feel that this will be a boon for my business, as it is such a convenient time for people to receive Reiki after a stressful work week.  In addition to the Mars Uranus trine on September 8^th, the Cancer moon was also trining Saturn in Scorpio.  I had been hoping for an early evening time slot and it suddenly opened up.  Thank you, Uranus and Mars!  I love it when astrology lives up to its potential!  I will be focusing on healing work and if you are in the Boston area and in need of some Reiki, please feel free to contact me for an appointment at the Acupuncture for Everyone clinic in Copley Square.

September Shakes It Up

September arrived with a fiery conjunction between Mars and retrograde Venus in Leo, ushering in the promise of an exciting, volatile month.  The month of September will resemble the stock market as of late, with its ups and downs. September will feature Venus stationing direct on September 6th, a solar eclipse in Virgo on September 13th, Mercury stationing retrograde in Libra on the 17th, Saturn returning to Sagittarius for the next two years as well on the 17th, Pluto stationing direct in Capricorn on the 25th and a lunar eclipse in Aries on the 27th.  Is your head spinning yet?

The Sun in 12 degrees of Virgo will be trining Pluto in 13 degrees of Capricorn on September 5th, which will definitely qualify as one of the more positive aspects of the month.  It will provide more empowerment in terms of how we handle life’s realities.  This is an earth trine, so it favors embracing the practical side of life and becoming the best we can be.  I am actually looking forward to this aspect, as it both the Sun and Pluto will be sextiling my Saturn in Scorpio.  I’m not exactly crying about Saturn’s imminent departure from Scorpio, but perhaps this aspect will bring me some rewards for my efforts.  Saturn does bring good things if you work hard.  At least I am trying to buy into that party line…

On September 6th, Venus will station direct in 14 degrees of Leo.  This is a major astrological event of the month since Venus has been retrograde since July 25th and there is always a certain intensity involved when a planet stations.  Venus retrograde may have manifested as a reflection on our values, finances, intimate relationships and friendships.  Some of us may have pondered the undercurrents and patterns that we brought to our relationships.  Now that Venus is moving direct, we can feel empowered to change or release outworn modes of relating that aren’t working for us.  Some may even choose to renew their vows when Venus is direct. While Venus retrograde may not have been an optimal time to invest in major purchases, it was prime time to sell off old assets.  Ironically, some of the best deals acquired during Venus retrograde may have been through antique stores or thrift shops.

On Monday, September 7th, it is Labor Day in the United States.  This marks the unofficial end of summer, but the weather is still feeling very much like summer in New England.  The moon will be in Cancer on the 7th, and it forms some tense aspects that could make us rather testy and emotional.  It squares Mercury in Libra and opposes Pluto in Capricorn, so there could be some squabbles and power plays in relationships on the holiday.  But we get a nice save that day from Neptune in Pisces, when it trines the Cancer moon.  So all should end on a more peaceful, compassionate note, especially with the Cancer moon sextiling the Virgo Sun by evening.  There may be some fireworks during the day, but compassion and the desire to do right should prevail.

On September 8th, as we all head back to work and school, we are the recipients of yet another positive aspect.  Mars in 19 degrees of Leo trines Uranus in 19 degrees of Aries.  This aspect serves as an adrenaline boost of energy to accomplish our goals in new and exciting ways to implement major changes that we have been contemplating.  This is fire energy, folks, and Uranus in Aries loves to do things in iconoclastic style.  Uranus is forming an exact square to my Cancer midheaven, so this could be an interesting day for me, especially since I have Uranus and Jupiter in the 10th house.

Super Full Moon in Pisces Has Potential for Making Dreams Come True

Full Moon Alert- we have a full moon in 6 degrees of Pisces coming up on August 29, 2015.  I'm not exaggerating when I call it a super full moon because it is especially close to the earth. I also think it would be a fair assessment to say that most people have been feeling the effects of this full moon for the better part of this past week.  Everyone I know has been stressed out to the max and there has been a plethora of bad news out there, between the stock market volatility and more senseless shootings.  But we did have that nice Sun Jupiter conjunction in Virgo on August 26th which definitely helped alleviate some of that stress.  On that day I tweeted:

"Super good luck abounds today as Sun and Jupiter hook up in Virgo. It's a cosmic green light to make things happen.  Run with it!"

I wouldn't be surprised if the stock market having a somewhat upward turn was influenced by that Sun/Jupiter aspect.

This full moon has a special connection with Neptune because it conjuncts Neptune in 8 degrees of Pisces, Its alignment with Neptune can lift us to imaginative heights but it can also confuse us and cast a Neptunian fog over what's real and what isn't.  Fear could also run rampant in the light of the recent bad news that has enveloped us.

How do we deal with this full moon?  Keep in mind that this Pisces moon is opposing the Virgo Sun. so we will do well to embrace the concept of practical magic.It will also be opposing Jupiter in Virgo, so there is ample reason to expect something good to come out of this full moon.  Healing is an important theme of this full moon.  Of course, fantasy, escapism, unconditional love, sacrifice and potential loss of self also figure in the mix.  Yes, it can be a loaded, emotional full moon in the watery sign of Pisces which, like Pisces itself, can go either way.  Our best bet is to integrate our spirituality more fully into our daily lives and somehow make both intuition (Pisces) and analysis (Virgo) work as a team to manifest our dreams.

Saturn is still concluding its final weeks in Scorpio (can September 17th come soon enough, although we will have a Mercury retrograde to deal with as well on that day) and it is still making its influence felt.  If you haven't checked out Michael Lutin's site lately, I highly encourage you to do so.

I could definitely relate to what he said about feeling helpless while awaiting a change in direction while feeling like you are in a state of feeling suspended in a vacuum or stuck in a void.  He talks about the eight root causes of desperation as Saturn leaves Scorpio and I think that many people besides me are feeling that we are on the verge of a major change in direction in our lives but are extremely frustrated with the delays in manifesting those changes.  Anxiety is at an all-time high. And I believe that Michael is right when he says that holding on to improper attachments is a major cause of that desperation.

This full moon is trining my south node in Cancer, which is all about the past.  For the past couple of weeks I have been encountering situations that reflect unresolved issues from the past and triggering old emotional wounds that I thought had healed. It is a very humbling experience to realize that I haven't totally forgiven some people  and that there is more work to be done on my end to reach that state. A Pisces full moon is all about love and surrender. The answers may come when we literally let go and release our expectations of how a situation will play out.  No matter how old I get, it never ceases to amaze me how much things do not happen on my timeline or in the manner that I envision. Trusting in the process is a hard fought lesson for me. That will probably be the greatest challenge for me with the Pisces Full Moon.

One way to embrace the Neptunian piece of this Super Full Moon in Pisces is to go to the movies. Neptune rules film, so if you really need to escape this weekend, that may be your safest bet.  And depending on the film you decide to see, it may give you some inspiration.

Virgo Season Officially Arrives

The Leo party is starting to break up as the Sun enters Virgo on August 23^rd, joining Mercury and Jupiter already in Virgo.  But before the Sun leaves Leo, it makes some pretty intense aspects by squaring both Saturn and the moon.  On August 21^st, the Leo Sun squares Saturn in Scorpio, which is bound to bring on feelings of being restricted and delays in achieving our goals. It may feel impossible to make any headway or accomplish anything and I wouldn’t rule out conflicts with authority figures. Frankly, I regard it as Saturn in Scorpio’s swan song before it enters Sagittarius again on September 17^th.  Saturn in Scorpio is not going quietly into that good night; it will challenge our sense of self and will certainly not feel like a day at the beach.  August 21^st may not be the day to launch any bold new enterprises, but maybe we can embrace Saturn’s energy by paying attention to what it is trying to teach us.  Perhaps patience is the ultimate lesson in spite of the fact that we feel that our ambitions are being thwarted. 

On August 22^nd, the Sun’s last full day in Leo, it also faces off with the moon in Scorpio by squaring it.  This aspect will bring emotional tensions to a head as the conflict plays out between desires and emotions.

Even though Leo symbolizes the warmth of summer, I confess that I am looking forward to the sun entering Virgo and a time of more introspection.  Leo is the life of the party, but there comes a time when we must get back to work.  Every year I find that by the last week of the Sun in Leo, I start to feel impatient and irritable and berate myself for not accomplishing more.  It could just be the Leo Sun squaring my Sun, Venus, Ceres and Pallas Athena in Scorpio.  I definitely experience these challenging transits as a major tension between wanting to enjoy myself and engage in some major transformation because that Leo Sun is also conjuncting my Pluto.

Virgo is much more introspective, introverted and reflective than its extroverted astrological neighbor Leo.  The themes of Virgo involve health and work.  Service to others is a major focus of Virgo.  Opportunities for healing can abound when the Sun is in Virgo.  Research, analysis and organizing are also very Virgo oriented tasks.  Is it any wonder that the academic year resumes when the Sun is in Virgo?  Back to school is like a reality check and resumption of practicality, which is a strong Virgo trait.

Jupiter is already in the sign of Virgo and this indicates that we will draw the greatest benefit and luck if we engage in service to others.  Volunteering may be an option for some people with both Jupiter and the Sun in Virgo.  On August 26^th, the Sun and Jupiter conjunct in Virgo.  This is literally the best day of the month to make something happen, so don’t waste this precious energy!  I always say that if you snooze with Jupiter, you lose.  You have to grab its brass ring or the opportunity will slip away.  It literally is the polar opposite of Saturn, which is slower moving and manages to stick around to get inside your head. You can’t ignore Saturn successfully, but you can fritter away Jupiter’s benevolence if you relax too much and neglect its presence.

There are some pitfalls involved with the Sun in Virgo.  Virgo is renowned for being a perfectionist and a control freak.  And Virgo really needs to embrace the mantra of change taking time to curb its natural impatience.  We also have a solar eclipse coming up in 20 degrees of Virgo on September 13^th, so we need to prepare for that.  If we want new beginnings, and that seems to be the case with most folks these days, we need to contemplate what we want to manifest.

Leo New Moon Stokes the Fires of Creativity and Love

Hang on, folks the New Moon in Leo on August 14, 2015 in 22 degrees of Leo is bound to be an emotional one that will pack quite a wallop.  Generally speaking, the themes of a Leo New Moon include personal power, passionate love or friendship, and reveling in play and exploring our creativity.

This new moon is especially emotional because retrograde Venus in 23 degrees of Leo is in on the action.  Obviously it is conjunct both the Sun and the Moon, so we may be involved in the process of reassessing our values and relationships.  Venus rules love, values and creativity, so it is intensifying the emphasis on love and creativity.  Uranus in Aries is putting its two cents in as well by trining the Sun, Moon and Venus during this New Moon.  This is a good thing because it gives us support to make changes and adapt to new circumstances.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer is also making its presence known during this New Moon.  Chiron is in 20 degrees of Pisces and is inconjunct the New Moon.  It serves as a reminder that we need to have compassion for the part of us that fears the unknown.  We may feel like a frightened child who is about to be the new kid in a brand new school.  Be kind and patient with that inner child. That is quite an adjustment to make, and inconjuncts are all about the need to make adjustments.

The bottom line with this New Moon is that change is on the horizon and that we need to embrace it.  Uranus trining that New Moon is encouraging and facilitating that change while Venus retrograde is affording us the opportunity to reassess our relationships, values and creativity.  I would be very surprised if relationships don’t change as a result of the Leo New Moon and the Venus Retrograde period. This Venus Retrograde is a big deal because it is conjunct the New Moon.  Resolving old issues in relationships can be the featured attraction of this New Moon for many people.   Frankly, if there is no change, it may be due to resistance on our part and we all know that resistance is futile when Uranus is involved.  Haven’t we learned anything from the seven Uranus/Pluto squares of the past few years?

Personally, I have been feeling the effects of this New Moon all week.  While my Pluto is being activated, my Sun/Venus conjunction in Scorpio is also being squared, adding to the creative tension and fueling my natural impatience to see changes NOW. The Leo New Moon is in my 11th house and is conjunct my natal Pluto.  I have definitely been in a period of reassessing my goals and anticipating the opportunity to connect with like minded folks who will inspire me. I can also feel Chiron in Pisces’ presence because I am experiencing anxiety about my fears of the unknown.  I have made many changes in my life recently and several chapters of my life have ended.  Letting go has never come easily for me, being a member of the fixed sign Scorpio tribe, but I know that it is a necessary part of the soul’s evolution.  I sense that I am on the cusp of even greater changes with Uranus in Aries and I am looking forward to what benefits Jupiter in Virgo will reap for me because I have been sowing seeds like crazy in the past couple of years. I have new ideas to expand my business that I hope to launch within the next month.  

I literally feel like this Leo New Moon has lit a creative fire under my butt.  On the other hand with retrograde Venus in Leo squaring my retrograde Venus in Scorpio, I am conflicted over wanting to enjoy the rest of summer and get those creative juices flowing.  My natal Venus is in my 2^nd house, so it is all about the money, creativity and resources for me right now.  My relationships have undergone dramatic changes in the past few months and while I would be a fool to rule out more changes, I don’t have quite the same fear and anxiety about them as I do about expanding my resources and being open to taking new risks.
